Froyo based w/Sense UI? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, been rooted ever since I got my eris, all the devs that have been working on both Froyo and 2.1 ROMS are awesome, don't know how you do what you do!
So here's my Question... When do any of you guys see a sense enabled froyo base rom? I have been switching between all the major froyo builds (tazz, kaos, celeb) and love the speed and reliability of them, but I personally like the stuff htc had done with the OS with the Sense UI. Right now I'm running EvilEris v.4, and that's working for me now, I was just wondering.
This post might do better in the general section, but everyone over here seems to know their stuff.
Thanks for any answers!!

I'm trying to port one, so if it works it will come soon.

I wish Ye luck with that. I'd like to help were I can, would be grateful. I wonder if you're doing a port from the legend or the desire?

I love SenseUI. But any Sense ROM that was 2.1 just lagged in certain areas on my phone. Would be awesome to see a Sense 2.2 ROM without any lag.

So far all of my port attempts have failed but the work continues. I personally can't stand sense ui but a froyo sense port would be sweet.
Sent from my nonsensikal Froyo

If I could make a suggestion could it be the espresso version of senseui(the one you like see on the MyTouch Slide), as I have found that to be a bit faster).

I'm also working on porting this... wish me luck!

It's great to see so many developers working on this. I'm hopeful to see one soon.

try Ivan's 1.0. I've had absolutely no lag and I've had over a month's worth of use on it all together.

until a developer comes out with the sense froyo you can alteast use the vatsense docks for launcher pro http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743703

xtrSense will accomodate all of your needs and desires.
I like it better than AOSP Froyo ROMs. Cyanogen added features that only SenseUI had, to make AOSP Android better.
SenseUI > AOSP, and there isn't a WHOLE lot that Froyo Sense does that 2.1 xtrSense by zach.xtr doesn't already do. Just some things that he has to use apps for that Froyo has built in. No big deal.

Q - Rom Variety

Just been wondering why are there so many people developing so many different roms? Wouldn't you think it would be better if a couple or a few of them worked together on one?
How does one choose?
Any recommendations on a 2.2?
Thanks
Because not everyone has the same taste. Some like sense, some don't. You'll also notice developers often give thanks to others for help. As far as 2.2 Kaosfroyo is good. Currently using CYAGONTAZZ. Like it so far.

Even that statement is sorta confusing...
There's sense and what else?
I'm imagining that sense is based off of the stock os....

Sense is the HTC user interface. I've heard that ROMS w/o sense run a lot faster, but personally I like sense. I do not believe 2.2 has sense right now. I personally enjoy CynogenTazz and CELB 2.1 (its froyo, the updates just put it at version 2.1 right now)

some develop roms for their own personal taste, then they share it.

Recommended Sense based ROM?

Looking to update my daughters Eris and was wondering what you guys might recommend for a Sense based ROM? Been lurking in the Incredible and G-Tab forums, but out the loop in the Eris forum. Thanks!

if by "update", you mean a Sense-based 2.2+ ROM, there are a few options, but nothing that is fully functional and recommended for daily use for the Eris.

if by "update", you mean a Sense-based 2.1 ROM with root and nice performance/battery tweaks, check out zach.xtr's xtrSENSE, it's a very nice sense 2.1 build.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726467
hope this helps get you started. i always thought i would come running back to a Sense ROM, but i made the switch over to KaosFroyo and now GSB and couldn't be happier.
zach.xtr's xtrSENSE!!
Definately zach.xtr's xtrSENSE. Very smooth and functional.
If you desire something with just the sense look, I recommend Shed's Gingerbread with the fancy widgets app. Fancy Widgets give you the clock and weather on the main screen like sense and Shed's ROM is, well, just incredible. I'm running those now cause I liked the look of sense but wanted gingerbread. Fancy Widgets is free in the market.
Same thing as they all said. xtrSENSE is what I'm running now.
Appreciate it! Going to give xtrSENSE a try. This will be an upgrade from Plain Jane, which has been a great ROM, but it's been giving her little trouble lately.
Villain Rom for the Gsm hero, its the best

[Q] Best Gingerbread ROM?

So I've been away from XDA for a little bit... (well just not checking it everyday like I used to)... but I was wondering if I could get some peoples opinions on which of the latest Gingerbread ROMs is the best one? I wanna give GB a test run and see if I like it on my Eris but want to get some feedback to see which ROM would be best to test first...
I have CyanogenMOD 7.0.0 RC1 Gingerbread NIGHTLY for the Droid Eris (workshed), and It's really good, one of the best ones out there.
TastyBread! Only saying that cuz that's my gb build lol. There are 3 so far so just flash them all and see which one you would like best!

I think Kaos has a build available as well. I agree you should try each one if your goal is to play around and "test". Give Shed a minute to update his latest release (1.8) by flashing one of the other three available builds, including the above quoted item.
Ginger Tazz 10 /3.3.11/ Stable/Blackened Ginger 2/2/22/11 {cm7} - Offers an interesting looking "Blackened" version as well
[ROM] **TastyBreadBuild v1** (Android 2.3.2)
[GINGERBREAD] KaosGingerbread V8
[ROM] GSB v1.8 | GingerBread 2.3.3 [CM7.0.0 RC1 NIGHTLY][3-3-2011] - my current driver, running 1.7 now and will wait until 1.8 is updated as outlined by Shed in his most recent post.
I vote for ginger Tazz v10 runs fast and strong.

I'd reccomend turning on the screen effects on launcher pro. They work well on the Eris. I like the one that makes the screen look like flipping walls.

I like all of LP's transition effects, but I settled on "Scale". I hope they will add a "Random" option to change the transition effect between all the options, not in one series of flips, but between flipping sessions.
I agree. gingerbread nightly is a good one
GSB is indeed a great build. I tried all the other roms and nothing is more stable than GSB. Though, I do believe that 1.6 is the most stable and the only version that works with swype for me.

I myself had fallen for the 'Scale' effect in LP. I recently installed Go Launcher EX (can't post you a link, check it out on market.android), I'm liking it...though I seem to be addicted to change, can't keep the same theme/apps for longer than a week. Especially with all the ROM flashing.
And PS, Go Launcher has that 'Random' screen transition option you're looking for. Give it a shot should you feel so inclined. There doesn't seem to be a 'Scale' equivalent, but 'Bulldoze' is an interesting alternative animation. I use the 'Roll' effect right now because it suits my theme.
Sorry to get so far off-topic.
Tazz Gingerbread v10 is beast. I'm not gonna lie.

Thanks! That's one of those apps/launchers that I thought looked interesting way back but it was too early in development. Now that it's matured some, it may be time for me to take a serious look at it.
GSB has been the most stable for me. Tried kaos and Tazz, but had a few issues. GSB has been running strong.
I'm running gsb and its great very smooth and fasy

I'm happy with GSB, I've never tried GingerTazz but I'm sure it's good too. When they both came out, I just couldn't decided which one to flash.
Workshed had done some cool stuff with DualROM, Tazz had done cool stuff with the FroyoSense rom.
I literally did eenie-meenie-miney-mo to pick between the two. And GSB was what I ended up with just by chance.
I can't judge the different GB roms as I have only just installed GSB about 15 mins ago, but the sheer difference in speed and responsiveness from froyo to GSB is dramatic.

[Q] ROM Question: Which is the ABSOLUTE fastest?

I need to narrow down my search for the fastest Eris ROM available as I use my Eris for work and speed is more important to me than beauty (but if both can be accomplished, then by all means... ) Anyway, any suggestions? Also, along the same line, will 2.1, 2.2, or 2.3 ROMs be quickest (as well as Sense-based vs. Non-Sense-based)? I have tried a few ROMs, but am looking to your opinion so that I don't wind up testing every ROM . Also, I have bought LauncherPro Plus and Beautiful Widgets, so Sense widgets aren't a huge deal to me. Thanks!

It's impossible to say - everybody's mix of apps is different, and what one person reports as faster another may report as slower. It's really not that hard to flash a few ROMs and try them out for a while and see what works best for you.

Pretty much this. But I will say, Gingerbread ROMs are supposed to be the fastest, and non-Sense should be faster than Sense any day.
KaosFroyo was insane when i was there, but now i use the Gingerbread rom that is supposedly a port of CM7 which has been running pretty good for me
None sense Gingerbread roms definitely from my experience are the quickest I've tried.

I would generally agree that non-sense/gb roms are going to be your best bet. KaosFroyo, may be a good route to go; especially if you need stability, or anything aosp, and without any bloat.... You may also play around with using different launchers too, as they can effect the speed, stability, and general feel of any rom. I like LP, but others are sleeker and smoother. There are also tons of Benchmark tests on the market that can be used if you want to see numbers- but I agree that your mix of apps/rom/launcher/ and intended use will greatly influence what fits you best.
And anything that is fast already can be overclocked..... setcpu has some great advanced settings that can help you find a balance of speed/battery useage (unless you have a charger/usb charger nearby in your line of work).

I'm running v22 GingerTazz BTW, and was on KaosFroyo before that... all slightly overclocked.
like i said, Kaos was an excellent dev and worked Froyo for all its money when he was around. KaosFroyo is by far the most stable rom around
Agree with Darca about non-Sense Gingerbread ROMs. I'm using GSB 3.1 (and have used KaosFroyo) and think it's the best hands down.

[Q] Which ROM would suit me best?

I was originally rooted and ran Das Bamf for a while but it bothered me that the front facing camera and voicemail notifications did not work, so I unrooted and upgraded to OTA.
Here is what I'm looking for in a ROM:
* Gingerbread based
* 100% phone functions work as they should (front facing camera, voicemail notifications, etc.)
* Bloatware removed
* Stock interface (sense or AOSP) ... I'm just not much for customized screens, fonts, etc.
Is there a ROM for me?

how is this guy not banned yet for being so picky?
well, i'd say probably Das BAMF (sense based) although those folk aren't welcome around these parts. you'll have to look elsewhere for their ROMs.
Until Verizon and HTC release an official Gingerbread build for this phone, the Voicemail from Verizon will not work properly.
I've tried just about every sense ROM there is. There are versions of visual voicemail that work...but I sold myself to Google Voice a while ago...and I should've done it sooner.
Any GB build is based off a leak and folks "Tweaking" things to get them to work.
You could try 10 different ones, I'd damn near guarantee none of them will have 100% of everything working (as pointed out by VM...for starters).
There are quite a few good choices... DroidTh3ory builds a mean, lean and fast one.
DAS BAMF is nice as is Virus ROMs (Synergy).
There are plenty others, but these are the main three I bounce between...
Get into a good nandroid habit...and you can go from one ROM to the next in 20 minutes or so...and learn basic ADB Shell commands in case you bork...download the Android SDK.
Voicemail and FFC work on AOSp ROMs.

I disagree on bamf sense 3.0 working great. It works, has its bugs but its not like aosp so I agree with Droid theory. And btw his roms are excellent. I've used gingered. And infused before I switched to liquid thunderbread and he just came out with an aosp. So props on that. And besides I feel bad for you for going back to stock with bloatware and slowdownthephones absolute potential ware. Hahahahs. And ffc and voicemail have worked fine forr me. With every rom I've had. It didn't like to work on stock though.

Im in the same boat. I just got a TBolt and have it rooted, but am a little confused about all the ROMS (Sense 2.1, 3.0, etc) Should I just stay with rooted "stock" until GB is officially out?
Quick question.... Boot newbie question.... What us aosp?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
AOSP is android open source project. Google gave devs their code and told em to go to town to help develop better software. The difference between aosp and sense is this. Sense roms are typically 269 MB or more. Aosp roms are 69-79 MB smaller more efficient and extremely faster.
Sent from my HTC ThunderBolt using XDA App
Try DroidTh3ory's AOSP 1.1.1. This is the fastest, and most stable AOSP experience I've had. Totally bloat-free, 100% functionality, best performance of any rom, hands down.
AOSP - Android Open Source Project - Barebones android, released to dev's to fine-tune for devices.
Sense - HTC's 'fine-tuning' of AOSP, including 200mb+ of 'pretty' and 'shiny' and 'bloaty' and 'whatever else verizon, amazon, htc, your mom wants to stick in there.'
So I'm currently running Bamf 3.0 rc4.9 is considered aosp or sense? Do you still have all functionality of sense Roms? Does running an aosp extend battery life? Oh another newb question.... How do I make a nandroid backup? Is it a app or just recovery image? Thanks in advance

You are running sense 3.0 so it is not aosp at all. It may be fast but does not compare to any of the aosp roms. when I first switched to an aosp rom my eyes started glowing with the speeds. For example I was running Gingered theory and got 1885 on my quadrant scores. (Overclocked to 1.9) And when I switched to aosp I got 3000 on just 1.4 overclocked.

Yep. You're good. When you flash a new rom it will get rid of your current kernel. Cause roms already come with kernels.
There are kernels for aosp and sense. Use aosp kernel for aosp. Don't use sense!
Aosp is fast for sure. Sense roms have better battery now IMO. But aosp will catch up.
