[Q]:Can't use camera while on a phone call? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I tried to use the camera while on a phone call and the phone says I can't do it. Does anyone know a way around this or how to fix this?

anybody know?

Same if your battery is low. Not sure how to do a work-around, but I would imagine Cyanogens Rom would take care of it.
Curious.... pics while on the phone?

thats what fring calling is for...
but yeah this is only the 2nd instance i have heard of this needed/wanted if there were more demand for this than it might come native... does the HTC/MOTO phones allow this? I have never tried before...

Oh yeah I was on a phone call the other day and wanted to show my friend something while still on the phone. I think this would be useful.

have you tried a 3rd party app out of the market? Its worth a shot...

Actually this came about because my buddies at work here all have Androids and we harass the pi$$ out of iphone users. Well one of the damn iphone guys found that their iphone can take pictures while connected on a call, and android can't.
I do actually see the usefulness of needing this though.

Haha, yes, we do need this function working!

I cant believe this was left out of Android I have been able to do this with every phone I have had for the last 3 years. Both my HD 2 and Moto Q9h bot can do this.

I have a Moto Cliq and I'm able to use my camera and record video while in a phone call, but I cant remeber if I was able to before I rooted my phone so it might be a SU or a ROM ability.

The Cliq allowed you to do it before rooting or anything.
That's one of the big issues I have with the Vibrant

basically theres no registration required, you just need to have their phone number and it goes through like a regular call
seems to work just cant get voice to stay connected. video stays connected by voice stays connected just for a little bit. when i click on video it kills my voice. i can hear the other person BUT they cant hear me.

Sounds like it would be much better that way!
Anyway- I tried it out. works great. I tried it with my girls mytouch slide, a friends iPhone 4, and my supervisors HTC. I'm not trying to be funny lol i really did try it with all these people.
EDIT: I forgot to mention crappy experience- no front facing camera. But worked great anyway.

[Q] Anyone got video calling working?

I've been trying to video call a couple of people using the 'Video Call' button in the dialler/contacts on the Galaxy S II but haven't got it working yet. My boyfriend has a Dell Streak and kinda thought considering that has a front facing camera that it would work!
Anyone know what protocol the video calling is using? Will it work with other phones besides the SGS2? Has anyone got it to work?

Maybe it's a Samsung only thing. I dunno...
I think it's proper 3G video calling, but I no longer know anybody with a phone that supports this as everybody is on new-fangled smartphones that can't do normal video calling.
Wait, just tried it with my colleague, works fine.

Trouble with 3G video calling is the price, last I could remember it was like 50p a minute and never took off when 3 UK started promoting it initially. Mind you, the data plans have got up now (though 3's all-you-can-eat sounds good) I suppose.
Cheers,
I had to ring orange to activate it, now is working , wouldn't let me ring a video call until I did

Ooh, interesting! That just the standard 150?
Aye 150, then after explaining the issue to the first agent he sent me to the more specialist team (forget name) and even he had to put me on hold to he find the issue as he had never come across it before. Took 24 hours to activate.

I'll give 'em a ring. Need to call 'em about them stuffing up my account login online too.
Looked up the price and I don't think I'll be using it all the often when I do get it activated. 51p a minute to call my boyfriend on O2!
Do you know if you get any minutes included each month?

dumbest thing ever but
Hello,
I am looking to get a new phone the SG2 has been a dream for the last month but everybody says go for the IPHONE.
I need video calling like skype or tango, skype would be awesome but no release for android yet.
I am a social networking freak, no gaming, tweeting and facebooking mostly and youtube. and skype
so what shall i go for SG2 where people tell me android is too buggy with its apps and there is no skype but there is tango or ooovooo and a 2 megapixel camera
or the damned iphone that trace ur ass and kill chinese staff. very complicated choice and i think id love somebody to tell me that get the SG2 becoz skype will release a video calling feature for android soon and that the apps are not so full of bugs as some say.
or somebody tell me get the heck out of this forum and go get a damn apple toy!
thank you

Skype are working on video calling and there have been a couple of leaks but it appears it'll be a Verizon exclusive for a few months much like the app was.
I'd go for the SGS 2 but that's because I love Android. It's so much more customisable and the range of apps is pretty much the same. Go into a store and play with both; see which one you like best.

Oh I know, I'm not gonna root my phone just for the sake of a buggy GTalk app. I was just curious as to why the native video calling wouldn't work. Looks like a call to my carrier will sort it

i dont think so , and yes its quite steep, and the quality isnt great either, was very jerky when i called my girlfriend in the same room. we both got g2's.
qik video was much better through wifi, not tested it both on 3g / H yet
.. as for included minutes, it says this on the webpage
if you're on pay monthly
Your Plan 60, 120, 200 or 300
30 minutes per month for 3 months
Orange Premier – 600 or 900 minutes
60 minutes per month for 12 months
im on 1200 minutes a month so i might ring em and see if get a few minutes, but it doesnt use your regular minutes i know that much .
Guys are you saying the Video Call button in the dialer is only intended for British networks?
Can I "setup" that button to call using Skype, if I am not on Orange or some other network that supports the original Video Call functionality on SGS2?

Unable to start camera app during call, how to solve ?

It may be a stupid question but a bit annoying to me.
There may be a frequent case which you want to take pictures while you have chats with your friends. However, I just discovered that Galaxy SII won't be able to do this. In certain extend, it is a limitation in terms of multi-tasking.
Is there any ROM or other ways to let them work at the same time ?
I have the same problem and it makes me very sad ...
I use the Head Set and would like to take some pictures and send them via E-Mail while I use the phone.
Any hint would be nice! Thanks in advance!!
I too have this issue/question
It's blocked in the s/w. Just like not being able to use the camera with the battery below 15%, The latter was changed in a recent update to only not being able to use the flash below 15%. In other words, it's not a flaw, it's a "feature."

I figured as much. there is no reason we shouldnt be able to talk and snap a pic. i drive a taxi and am on the phone most of the time with other drivers and have to hang up if i see something i wanna take a picture of. does anybody know if there might be a workaround? Im fairly new to android, was pretty handy with winmo registry stuff, dont know how to tweak android yet

I'm guessing it's blocked because the phone still supports video calling over 3G on networks capable of it. One of the devs might be able to change it in a cooked ROM. Quite a few undid the 15% camera thing.

It tough to say if there is a decent app out that can do that. Usually those apps only work well if you have them on speaker phone because the phones hardware is set up to not be able to record the other party directly, just what is coming out of your microphone.
One way to test is use the built in sound recorder app in the middle of a call. It does the exact same stuff as the call recorders.
Only way is using mic to record. Otherwise you need kernel support to record a phone call directly in android.

I'm not sure that it entirely correct, I'm pretty sure it is a hardware limitation that they put there for that reason, i could be completely wrong tho

at least a couple of times a week i will either answer a call or as soon as the person i am calling answers, a voice will say, "this call is now being recorded".

Either you or the other party has Google Voice & they pressed #4 on the dialer.
It makes that announcement (awkwardly loud) for legal purposes, since in some states/cities it's either: illegal to record without consent, at all or simply illegal to not inform them of the recording taking place.
Check this video out...
Anyone know where the Stealth mode files would be Located?

Interesting......
Seen a kernal somewhere that supported call recording... Somewhere in cdma development. And if you allow the permissions to mess with phone calls that is you being informed and agree to it, as seen when you download almost any app, just keep an eye out for the ones that say anything to do with phone calls,

Do you trust AndroidLost? The whole thing seems a little fishy, and at least one user reported hearing camera shutter sounds (the kind that are made when you take a screenshot or front facing camera photo, a function available in AndroidLost) - this was shortly before the dev removed the sound making function when taking remote FFing stills.

Not at all and neither do I trust Viber and it's shady dev or lot's of other apps on the market. I don't keep Androidlost installed all the time but after playing around with it, I can see where it could be very useful tool for after the fact locating a lost or stolen phone.
