Hey guys. Can someone help me create a shortcut icon that will take me to a specified Opera Mini URL? Sort of like a poor-man's widget.
Thanks
Not sure it can be done. Best bet is to set the Opera homepage to the page you want and create a shortcut on the homescreen for opera. When you click the icon it'll launch opera and go to the page you want.

Theres an app called "bettercut," though I havent used it for a long time, I remember it was the GoTo app for shortcuts. Try it
Yeah I know of buttercut. I need help created and advanced one. Basically opening the default browser then executing a URL command. It's gotta be available as many apps have the option to click on a link that opens up your browser to a certain page. Now that I'm thinking about it maybe I can create a simple URL shortcut that will open Opera (default browser).
Anyway if anyone knows how to create a URL shortcut without butter cut let me know. Can't imagin it to be too hard to the coders out there.

You can add shortcuts to websites that you have bookmarked with the stock browser to your home screen without using any other software. Just hit add then shortcut then bookmark.

I think your best bet is to set opera mini as your default browser and do it that way.

I agree, if anything though I would have neither set as default browser; you can set a new shortcut bookmark on your homescreen and when you click it it will ask which browser you want to open with but I'm bias with the HTC browser because of Flash Lite

thank you for your reply
be more specific
In the browser you can change user agent through menu button, settings, user agent.
Go to sleep fella, the agents will change themselves...
In froyo standard you can't change the useragent only in cm6 or desire builds. You can try Xscope browser for that.
For peoples who don't know "user agent" is the string that tells the server what browser are u using.

If you can't answer a question don't answer!
The only thing I can think of on this build is to go to settings in the browser and uncheck the "mobile view" option.

Search for Fake Browser in the market. It gets the job done.

[HACK/FIX] Changing useragent string in browser to Desktop (Permanently).
Why go through all this why don't you just download opera or dolphin browser in the settings change the user agent to desktop (advanced in opera) and you are set.
Has anyone else noticed that the browser seems to steal away intents from other apps?
For instance, if Google Now has showed me directions somewhere and I click the map (not the Navigate option), the directions are opened in the browser, not Maps. And it doesn't give me the choice. I've tried clearing defaults in a few different things, but it doesn't seem to help.
I'm also seeing this in a reddit widget I have. On other devices, I can click a link and it would give me the option to open in the browser, or a reddit app of my choice. On the DNA it goes straight to the browser, no options.
I'm running UKB 1.1, but I'm pretty sure this happened on stock.
Anybody else?
Go to settings and look at your app associations.

Well, "Physical address" is set for Maps, "Map address" is set for Maps, and "Web URLs" is set for Internet (which is the only option). But I don't think that explains why Google Now is opening a map in the browser.
I'm guessing these Sense associations are overriding Android natural intent system?
I wouldn't doubt that is happening. I find that happens a lot with sense which is one reason I'm not a huge fan of it in general.
Hey all,
wasn't sure which forum of the S3 was the appropriate one for this question.
wanted to ask maybe if anyone can help -
how to make the Google Search Widget open search results in Chrome browser?
at the moment when i search through the widget - it opens the search results in the Google Search App,
not in the S3 browser and not in chrome.
- I've tried setting Chrome as my default browser.
- Tried clearing defaults for the "Google Search" & "Google Search Widget" apps (no defaults were even defined)
maybe you can help me out on this one.
Regards,
Adiel

Go to all apps in app manager, find internet click on it scroll down to app defaults and press clear defaults then when you next use widget it will ask what app you want to use to open results then choose chrome.

Are you sure you cleared defaults for the Samsung browser (called Internet in apps) not for the widget itself, that's how I did it.

Its called "Browser" in my S3
and maybe i wasn't clear enough - when searching through the widget, it opens the search results in Google search app.
when clicking one of the results, then it opens chrome.
i want it from the start to open the whole search results page in chrome
I already said that it was the way the new Google Search worked.....

I'm really hoping to find an answer to this too. After the search results display, you can't open multiple windows for the different sites you wish to view.

On my Note 2 I had to clear defaults for "Popup browser", that did it!
google chrome help
I'm lookong for some help on this too. I have the Samsung S6 & the Launcher (google search bar) automatically opens in Google & not Google Chrome. I need it to be in Google Chrome so I can tap on the images to save them. The normal launcher page I cannot save images.
I have cleared defaults & it doesn't help. It doesn't ask which browser you want to use.
Google search is its own entity. It cannot open chrome until you hit a link in its (google search) results field. Blame android and the way it's built.

Sorry man, but that isn't possible. Google already implemented that right from the beginning, when search was implemented into the OS.
I figured it on my Galaxy S6. Settings / Google (that's right, they have their own section now!)/ Search & Now / Accounts & Privacy ...then toggle off the button for "Open web pages in app"
Sorry if this is in the wrong section. I accidentally clicked on the browser as the default app to open address links. Now when I click on an address it opens Google maps in the browser rather than opening the Google maps app. How can I make it so Maps will be the default app again? Looked through all all the settings and I can't seem to figure it out. Thanks

Go to settings–>apps and select all apps. Find the browser and click on clear defaults under the launch by default setting.

Figured it out. Had to clear the defaults to the Maps app instead of the browser. Thanks though!
