Is there a point to turning on/off the APN? (t-mobile) - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Sorry, n00b question. I turned off the APN and I'm still able to go on youtube and the web browser. Is there no point turning off the APN?

you must not have "turned off" the APN... or you are on wifi maybe?
Without the APN the phone doesnt know where to connect to...I deleted my apn and no longer had data service... Had to input everything again...
BTW the Vibrants APN is the same as every other 3g tmo phone... Tmobile swears to the life of them they do not know it and it is a different APN they are entitled to.. A load of BS and I just searched them with google..

[RESOLVED] Mobile Network "Turning on..."?

Today I rooted my telus hero and flashed VillainROM 12 onto it which all went pretty well. The tutorial said the 3g may not work after and ide have to add the apn info myself, which I did. But when I enable the mobile network it greys out and says "Turning on..." forever. Does anyone know any solution to this?
Fixed, apparently the other 2 APN I inputted from the internet were wrong the closest one I had showed or looked like a space between the APN type when I removed that it worked :S
Strange... did you reboot the phone?
Ya i've rebooted the phone tried changing the APN over and over and it wont work

[Q] Can't connect to data network

I got a Telus sgs2x a few days ago and I had the 4G sign on my phone then but now nothing I do is making it connect. I have been on a wifi network the whole time basically and I noticed that when someone tried to send me a picture it would not download. I had installed juice defender but took it off because I thought it might be the problem. I also tried a few different apps to switch data on but the 4G sign never pops up or anything. I can still call and text. I am using juggernaut 3.7 gingerbread 2.3.5 and it's a Telus phone not att.
I am sorry first post and it's in the wrong section I didn't realize.
Sounds like an APN problem. Try creating the AT&T APNs for your phone again. Look around the forum for them.
Haha it was an apn problem they had all been set to disable and after I reset my apn settings 4G turned back on. The holiday season must be getting to me.

No data connection, How do I fix APN settings?

I recently Tried to use my ATT SIM with my Dinc4G, I had to add an APN but it worked 100%, Voice and Data.
When I went back to my Verizon SIM, I found I had no data...
It hasn't come back at all for a couple days now, when I reset t o defualt APN I see the Verizon APN and even got screenshots of the settings
Problem is it changes back to some APN with wrong settings almost immediately, and I cannot change that APN.
Adding New a New APN causes that APN to disappear, and the name of the locked one to change. The information is still wrong, can't be changed and I have no data...
At a loss here, can't figure out whats happening. I even put my SIM in my Galaxy Nexus... and THAT didn't have a data connection either....
Are you rooted?
I've had the same problem after testing out an AT&T SIM, and there seems to be something wrong with the way Dinc4 tries to reset APN data to defaults.
There might be a better/easier/more proper way to fix it, but the only one I found was to edit APN database directly using a SQLite editor. Obviously, needs root access for that.
If you are, in /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases check telephony.db and cdmaapn.db files.

S2 can call and text but cant connect on mobile data.

I rooted and flashed my GF's SGS2 with wanamlite 13.0 ROM and its perfect.. but now, she called me and asked why she cant connect on the internet using mobile data.
No signal indictors like 'E', 'G' or 'H' are showing even she enabled the mobile data and neither changing GSM to CDMA vice versa worked.
She has also tried restarting the phone, searching the network operator and choosing the right one but to no avail. Her sister also has the same network provider but she doesnt have any problems on the mobile data.
Is it possible that it is a Phone defect? I really doubt it since she can do text and call using her SGS2.. Im confused >.<
PS: I've already tried searching this kind of question so please, dont post 'letmegooglethatforyou' links. Thank you.
First thing you do is go to the carriers website & get APN settings, write them down & check the APN settings on the phone. If there are APN settings on the phone but they're different in any way to the ones you got from the carrier's website, change them. If there aren't any on the phone (in settings/mobile networks/access point names), these need to be entered, make sure APN type is set to default.

Thank you for your wonderful advice..
Im so stressed that I even forgot that there is an APN settings needed (I swear that it is automatic in my own S2).
Anyways, I'll call her once again and try to work things out.. I hope she can understand and follow how to check/change the APN.
Will update once done.
Thanks again!
No probs Post again once you've checked/put the correct APN settings in if it's still not working & we'll nut it out further.

Losing 4G/LTE signal

I have an LG Optimus F3Q (I'm a keyboard person) on T-Mobile. Rooted, stock. I've noticed that my wife and I will sometimes be in the same place and she with her un-rooted LG phone gets good 4G/LTE signal while I'm on 2G. I went to the T-Mobile store (did not tell them I was rooted, they didn't ask) and they gave me a new sim. That seemed to work ... for about 30 minutes. Then I got booted off 4G/LTE again. So I went back. They messed around with APN settings and stuff, still no permanent fix. But what I have noticed since doing that and learning a little bit about the network settings menu is I can manually get myself back on 4G/LTE by going into network settings>mobile networks>network mode and disabling, then re-enabling, GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. (There is no "LTE only" mode for me to select.)
I printed out a logcat dump shortly after doing that successfully, but I know nothing about reading those logs.
Just for kicks I've tried adding an APN using epc.tmobile.com instead of fast.t-mobile.com but that one won't even connect me to the internet; perhaps I am doing something wrong in setting it up.
Anyone have any ideas here? I'd prefer not to have to go through several menus every time I want decent data service.

Just a piece of additional info: I've now noticed that I seem to get kicked off 4G when I make a phone call. So it seems like the phone is having some problem reinitiating its connection with the 4G data network ... ?
