Following from your other thread, I've updated my Java and can still use ADB, so not sure if it is a version issue or why it no longer works for you. In regards to this thread, I've done similar before and had to reflash in the end.

Well that sucks... Cause my Java isnt working so I cant use the reg flash method which requires java for the deviceid part... Which of the new root or flash methods work without Java?
Regarding the Java issue, its because I installed the v21 Java. You probably installed the v20 Java and then upgraded. Ill try the Java again...

I did yes, but again, don't see how it could be a version issue.

Thats exactly where my files are located too... It seems that the JRE installer on the website is still in v20 but once I install the JDK which is in v21 it updates the JRE as well...

I was able to disable the JDK from updating the JRE to v21 as well but it still doesn't work. You do have Java in your taskbar or in your process list right?

Hey all,
I have been having abit of trouble rooting my x10, i am currently using the Newbies guide on the Forum but have tried other Guides as well but with no luck.
When I get to step 1 and Flash my X10 this is what it says in cmd prompt:-
INFO: start
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException
at java.lang.string.<init><Unknown Source>
at X10flash.testPluged<X10flash.java:103>
at X10flash.run<X10flash.java:375>
at X10flash.main<X10flash.java:417>
Press any key to continue
Now to me that seems like it has worked?
After that, in the guide it says that you will notice Generic X10i R1FA016 firmware (check it by pressing the left button, go to settings>about phone and at the very bottom under build number)
I go to check that but it isnt there... I press onto next step anyways.
I Delete Folders 4 & 5, put phone in Debugging mode on and also Unknown sources on, plug USB in and keep my phone unmounted.
I then Start up Step 2 and wait for the Option 6 to pop up on my phone but it never comes up?
So I do not know what to do now, I have gone back and tried doing it over again, going onto SEUS and Reseting it and starting fresh etc.
Can someone please help me
Thank you Chad.

Clearly you haven't or you would know why your seeing what you do when you run step 1, which is because you've not entered the correct device id.
The 1 thing I didn't try worked...
I tried changing the Device ID to the other one and got The java error...
Then I tried changing the Device ID and changing the USB port and it worked?
Something wrong with the other USB port maybe? Wierd....
Thank you XperiaX10iUser for the replies anyways

Possibly. So where are you at now?
Followed the guide all the way through to the end with no other problems!
Thank god for that, can't believe it was the USB Port
All good now though, just trying out different themes and apps to get.
What Theme are you using, any good suggestions?
Was 1 more thing I wanted to ask though, that Newbies Guide roots your phone, but roots it to the R2BA023 Build.
Can you update it too R2BA026 and keep it rooted?

Has anyone had any luck getting unison file sync onto an android phone. The only link I can find that actually tells how is in Japanese.
Given that I need a specific version of unison, how I could compile it to run it via the terminal app?

Desesperate bump.
I am regularly looking into this issue every now and then but can't find anything new. I also need unison to run in android as it is the way that I am syncing all my files over several machines and servers.
Maybe you could just install linux cli tools
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.galoula.LinuxInstall
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.azlinux765.alinstaller
There was another app to add CLI tools without a full linux install, but I can't find it anymore
I have got unison (version 2.40.102) compiled on android now. I'm not next to my computer that I compiled it on but I can hopefully help you out if you tell me what bits you need explained. I started off using the Japanese instructions and google translate! I am also happy to share the binary with anyone who wants it.

Thanks it actually helped a lot ... indirectly
I already knew about chroot based Linux installs and while it would effectively allow me to run unison from a Debian chroot, I wanted something more native. However, your post pushed me to look again into such options and I discovered an amazing project that allows to run Debian in a more seamless fashion using symlinks, bind-mounts and other tricks to make the experience of Debian near native.
http://sven-ola.dyndns.org/repo/debian-kit-en.html
I can now run unison over ssh and the only issue I found was a permission problem that can get fixed by asking unison to not sync permission changes.
Of course a completely native solution would be still better I think. That's why ...

A couple of pointers:
- Keigo Imai's patch to to cross-compile OCaml on Android (https://sites.google.com/site/keigoattic/ocaml-on-android)
- Jérôme Vouillon's OPAM Android repository (http://github.com/vouillon/opam-android-repository)
This should help you cross compile unison (I did this on Linux).
I also released recently a GUI app that allows you to unison without dealing with the command line (and without rooting) on Google Play:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.danielroggen.unisonsync
Cheers,
Dan

Because you are using IE. Use another browser and it will be fine. There is some database and if IE doesn't see this specific file downloaded a certain number of times it calls it malware. Its a stupid feature.

There's instructions on that same webpage for how to do it. I think its step 8 or something. You just have to ignore the "sudo" since you're not on Linux.

Is ok though, I'm sticking a folder on my gDrive that contains all the files/tools needed in order to do this. It'll be a little bit before everything is there, but the folder is located at: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B25BbZxm93S9V2JQVVlrNUNfQTg&usp=sharing
I'm also adding all the aosp sounds for people who are staying on gpe but still want to access all the sounds available on aosp (Stock gpe selection is pathetic).
It'll be probably at least 3 or 4 hours before everything is there though.

I may have just had a weird experience, but I think FlashTool is able to use drivers without them actually being installed. At least the adb ones were not actually installed when I tried to do logcat , I had to go through device manager to update drivers then navigate to FlashTool folder and install them.

Apparently flashtool is on github, which makes their choice of hosts even more fishy considering that you can host the downloads on github itself... but looky what I found here: https://github.com/Androxyde/Flashtool/tree/master/drivers/FASTBOOT/Sony
All necessary files have been added to the Google Drive folder here:

I may write a little bit better and more detailed guide for people in my specific position once I have cm11 up and running.
RSD Lite Tool For Mac and Linux
View attachment 3812978
This tool is designed to flash stock Motorola firmware just like you can with Motorola's program RSD Lite but on Mac and Linux machines.
What it does is looks at the XML files that come with Motorola firmware like the servicefile.xml and the flashfile.xml then coverts them all to fastboot commands it also checks the MD5 of all the firmware files just like rsd lite.
If you want to learn more and see some examples of how this is all done check HERE

Hi, I was considering picking up the amazon version of the g4 play, but decided to see if there was a way to flash the stock motorola version of android before doing so. I read through the provided script and saw that you chose to ship your own binaries instead of using the versions of adb and fastboot already installed. Looking at the binaries themselves, I found that while my own adb is 164K and fastboot is 116K, your versions are 1292K (!!) and 296K respectively. I am, I think understandably, wary of running large uninspected binaries on my system. My question is, if I copy my own versions of these programs into the RSD-Lite-Mac-Linux/files/ directory (or use sym-links), is this likely to cause issues with the flashing process?
Also, is there a reason you direct people to download everything from your site instead of linking to upstream, even for programs like notepad++ and even when your versions are (very) outdated?
Should this work on Motorola Photon Q (xt897), which normally works with (windows) version 6.15? I tried that with wine, but it doesn't see my phone...
