Phonebook recovery - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All
I recently updated my X10 via PC Companion thinking that my current settings had been backed up....but sadly they had not.
I lost my phonebook contacts and I'm desperate to get them back.
I tried a recovery program for they memory card and recovered all (supposedly) deleted files but for the life of me I can't find anything that resembles a phonebook file or doc.
Can anyone help please?
Also where is the phonebook info stored, is it on the memory card or on the actual phone apart from the sim?

I have also tried searching for a .vcf in the recovered data but no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions of how to recover the deleted phonebook directory or guide me into the right place to look?
Regards
Marc

I guess you didn't have google sync enabled for contacts then hey?
Would be easiest...never lose them if they're in the cloud.

Hi.
If you didn't make any kind of backup?, then your going to be out of luck I'm afraid.

Will be on the phone, but can backup to the memory & sim card.

[Q] ok guys a little help here please

i recently flashed rom to my 3d. i did a full wipe and everything but i was told my contacts wouldnt dissapear but theyre gone. also my sd card has 121 mb free but there is only 1 app on it? does that make any sense? thanks for your help.
Your contacts should have backed up to googles servers. Did you ever deselect that option on your previous ROM?
Can you explain the last part? What do you mean you have only one app?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Your contacts should come back when you sign into your google account and let it sync. No idea about your sdcard.
i cant seem to find out why so much space is missing from my sd? could it be the actual rom itself? the only thing i have on there before using tb to get my apps back is adobe app.
and my contacts didnt come back even after sync.. is there anything i can do ?

I'm going to assume you are using the 8GB card. Umm, you don't have anything on it, like movies or music? Did you create a nand backup before flashing? Those can take up like 1GB of space. Do you use a lot of apps?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Did you log onto your Google account?

nope nothing on it. and yes i did. about 3-4 times. no on the apps.
View the files on your SD card with a file manager. You should see what's on it.

Wait, what three or four times? Log onto your google account four times or make a nand backup four times?
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Let me get this straight...
Your taking about your micro sd card right? Is it the 8GB one, or did you swap it?
You say you have nothing on it, but the ROM you downloaded right? Also you say you only have one app also.
Can you view in what's in your sd card?
I'm really trying to understand.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
nand backup 4 times. my google has nothing on it. how can i restore my contacts?

You nand backed up four times? Then that can be the problem consuming all your space on the SD card. About the other one idk.
Did you ever uncheck the boxes in the privacy settings in your last ROM? If not, then I really don't have a sufficient answer for you.
I still can't see how nand backing up would take up all of the space, but with all the given information. Theres not much I can say.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
thanks for your help. can i undo what ive done regarding overdoing the nands?

You can delete them. Or move them all to your computer to be safe. Just keep one handy, and restore back to it. You'll probably get your contacts back doing that.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
When you have your contacts back. Go to your Peoples app. Press the menu button, select import/export. Then your going to select export to sd card. Select the export to phone and google options. So next time if they go missing, you just import them.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
thanks you have been very helpful. one last thing please. lol. how do i go about deleting or moving some of them? =)

Do you know which folder they are in? If you do, then you just go to the folder and right click it. Select whatever option your going to do then voila! Your good to go.
Are you doing it by phone instead of using a computer? Just use astro file explorer and navigate to the folder. Long press it to bring up a list of options.
I assume you know how to move them to your pc right?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Try doing a full wipe (factory reset) before restoring the nandroid backup. If you're using the latest version of TWRP, go to the advanced settings menu, and then choose format menu. Wipe cache, data, system, and boot. DO NOT WIPE SD CARD. Then try restoring one of your backups. Make sure you have your phone unplugged when restoring and rebooting (sometimes it can be problematic when plugged in). If that doesn't work, then try flashing a new rom from scratch.
The easiest way to delete your nand backups, or store them to your computer, is to plug your phone into the computer, and choose mount as disk drive. Then navigate into your sd card, and find the TWRP folder, then choose backups, then navigate into the next folder (labeled as your phone's serial number), then you'll see your backups, which are labeled with the date and time they were created. Delete the ones you don't need, or move them to your computer for safe keeping. That should free up a good amount of space on your sd card, as each backup ends up between 800-1500mb.

[Q] How to recover contacts from crashed phone

So, my x10 crashed 2 months ago and I'm really eager to recover the contacts from the phones memory. Have tried searching for a way to do this but so far I haven't. The phone is stuck in a reboot loop, but I hope the data is still there to be recovered somehow. The only backup I have is a 5month+ old .sbf file, and I'm having trouble restoring the contacts from that on my new phone.
I KNOW now, that I maybe should have backed up more frequently to google (last done in december 2011..) but the sbf file is what i have that is recent. Any suggestions/threads/tools for this?

If your phone is backed up with your google play account then you should just use the email in another phone and you will restore your contacts if not then not so likely

I hope You have root and USB debugging enabled.
If so, You can use my program to connect the phone in xrecovery mode and access the system files.
If You don't have root, You can try to root it, install good kernel (like doomkernel), backup Your current os, flash new ROM and restore the data.

That's a nontrivial task as IF your phone is completely dead (faulty hardware) then you need to dump the complete image of your eMMC and then retrieve the messages from that image. I believe dumping eMMC can be done via JTAG but that requires special paid hardware and software. Or you could theoretically remove the eMMC off the board and read it with an IC programmer but that is even more labor intensive task than the JTAG method.

[Q][REQUEST] Ringtones on locked bootloader devices

After having my Z2 for 2 weeks on a trial period I've bitten the bullet and unlocked my bootloader to finally have root on my device :victory:
Now after that step, of course the data partition and with that the entire internal storage got wiped. This was known to me and as I thought not to have stored anything on it I didn't consider losing anything... but it seems there have been some ring-tones stored on either data or the internal storage and they got wiped together with the rest
I'm hoping anyone out there can help me restore these. They are supposed to be in /system/media/audio, /sdcard/(Ringtones||Alarms||Notifications) or inside /data/audio and should be there ONLY when/if you never have wiped the data partition or updated through flashtool/PCCompanion instead of OTA...
Who can help me gather them all back? I really love the original ringtone for the calender, which got deleted up on unlocking the bootloader :crying:
This is it. From system/media/audio.

If you ask for more, tell me please.
Send from my Sony Xperia Z2

Whatsapp deleted account /file manager

I have the following issue that needs someone to answer in detail please.
I have deleted my whats app account , I did this by using a new device as my old device was lost.
I have changed my mobile number and removed all back ups from google drive.
My issue is this - I am to believe there are backups stored on the internal memory of a phone ( seriously how many back ups does an app really need )
As I have deleted my whatsapp account will it still be able for someone to retrieve my whats app back ups from file manager or what ever internal storage ?
I HAVE ALSO CHANGED MY MOBILE NUMBER. So as to prevent any reinstall of app as old number would be needed for verification code
How far back do backs up go that are stored this was way ?
If deleted messages that were removed a few weeks prior will they show any where on these back up files ?
Regards

When you delete your account your chat backup are just a trash
And nodody will access your phone data untill delete all of your data!(if you didn't turn on USBdebug or installed TWRP)
