[Q] can vibrant run roms that are maid for I9000? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm getting a vibrant and I wanted to know if I can use roms that are made for galaxy s I9000, cuz basicly it's the same phone right?

No its not possible..
Basically Vibrant have different buttons, No front facing camera.. ect.. So that why it's not possible..

It is possible to an extent but it requires a developer to do some work to make it fully compatiable. Depending on what kind of ROM it is, it may flash Euro bands and may end up bricking your device if you aren't careful. All the Galaxy S phones are similar and follow the same /system/ format (not 100% but similar).
Tweaks and hacks will work but not always. Kind of like how RyanZA's was developed for the I9000 and yet it still worked for the Vibrant.

Call Recording works on NEW phone.

So I bricked my Vibrant and just got a new one as a warranty exchange, yay, good for me. I've gone about the whole rooting and flashing to Simply Honey that I ported over from I9000. In doing so I found that call recording works perfectly whereas it did not on my old phone. Others are not having success getting it to work either. My question is are there certain things on our phones, in all the lines of script and programming, that remain even after using Odin or flashing different roms? If so would it be possible to find the differences between the stock KA6 that my new phone came with and the KA6 that came as an update.
I only ask because I am not a developer, merely a guy who swapped a few files around to get a working I9000 rom that I liked and I'm not deeply familiar with all the files in Android like some of you are. Anyone wants to chime in maybe we as a community can figure this out for those that want that feature.
interesting, I ll look at mine as well never looked at that

[Q] Getting a Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G, some general questions

Well I'm getting a Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G soon from my carrier, Rogers. I have absolutely no experience with Android so this will all be new to me. I am curious about a couple of things.
I heard that it'll come pre-installed with TouchWiz. How could I change it so that I have the pure Honeycomb experience (custom ROM?) while maintaining the ability to connect to my carrier (Rogers)?
I'm aware of how to root it after reading this thread,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239185
Is there any difference in rooting a device from Rogers and what should I look out for?
I was also told that the tablet has a flash counter that would allow Samsung to know if I rooted my tablet voiding my warranty. Is there any way to bypass it?
Do you have suggestions for apps to install?
Any other general tips?
Thanks!
Honestly touhwiz is not that bad on honecomb. Try it out.
But only way to get a pure android is experience with honeycomb experience is rooting, but that i am aware im not to sure if there is a pure honeycomb rom out there. They're mainly based on the samsung updates.
Like i said try touchwiz out, if you don't like wait until cm9 comes out and try ics.
Yep; dont worry about Touchwizz; it is far form being as much intrusive as most other UI; it is really light.
In fact, it is barely like 3-4 homescreen-disposable widgets plus 6 more embedded in the system bar that you wont probably ever trigger (or remember) after the first couple of days..
Rogers GTab10.1 "faux-G" ; after a couple days of use; it is really great. It never let me down nor gave me any "force close" of any kind.
Now, if you can live with only 16gb, not expendable, and you dont mind 'bout HDMI-Out either (adapters exists, but are expensive), it is really a good choice.
Regarding battery life; it is a tank.
And 3/3.5/faux-G speed is more than enough;
Unless you plan to rely on this for your next Battlefield 3 tournament, LTE is a luxury you can afford to skip.
im also wondering about the flash counter...
where and how can you check it to see if its more than 0?
what will make it go up to 1, is it flashing anything other than samsung files through Odin? or can you still flash anything through odin such as ROM's and needed files to get root but as long as they are based on stock kernel the flash counter wont go up to 1?

[Q] Galaxy Tab 10.1 P7500R Questions

Hello everyone,
I just (literally 20 minutes ago) got my hands on a Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G from Rogers. I'm very interested in rooting this device to install CWM on it but none of the guides i've seen have instilled much confidence so i'm hesitant to use them. Can anyone point me in the right direction so I don't brick my tablet?
Thanks!
PS: Any useful info/links you can provide about this 7500R would be greately appreciated .
Rogers Galaxy Tab runs Honeycomb 3.2 so there's very little point in flashing it with any custom roms. (which are all based on the stock rom -no Cyanogen here yet-)
..You want to root it and flash something else, but you just have no idea of what you will be flashing, why you would do it, or how to do it, dont you?
Whats the point then?
If the root thread (the one with the video walkthrough) doesnt instill you enough confidence, just dont root it, dude. And try to grow some balls ;-)

Perhaps i should make myself a little more clear. I'm interested in flashing one of the custom roms that are currently out there (ie Kang's ICS ROM or a more stock/acting looking honeycomb rom). I'm well aware on how to use ODIN and get into download mode, i'm just concerned that since its a 7500R that'll throw a wrench into things and put the tab into an unrecoverable state. Thats really all.
I'm interested in this as well. I'm currently debating whether I should get the Rogers Tab 10.1 or just go with a WiFi.. I'd like my tablet to have 3G capabilities and a real GPS chip inside, but since it seems that a majority of the ROMs available are meant for the WiFi version only (because it seems most people have the WiFi-only version), I'm leaning towards WiFi just to have better ROM support. Or maybe having the 3G model is just as simple as getting the WiFi-only ROM and flashing in modem support? I'm not really sure.
If you figure out anything about the 7500R and any solutions about the challenges it faces, I'd be interested to hear about it!
As you might know, there's no 3G (nor LTE) support for Kang's roms at this point; so there's very little point in using this with a Rogers Tab right now;
And keep in mind that it looks like 3G versions are getting some form of favor treatment; they all have been upgraded to 3.2 while many other versions are still stuck on 3.1
Still, if you want to play ball, just remember it is a GT-P7500 3G RETAIL MODEL : not a 10.1v, not a 10.1 4G, nor a wifi or anything else! ...And everything should be fine.
-- The "R" in GT-7500R doesnt mean anything... maybe stands for Rogers.. We just dont see much Bell's; they dont give tabs with any 2 new activations.. 'nway.. who cares.

Id like to be able to lock or change what the softkeys do so he stood getting into random menus...being he can't read yet and messes with stuff...i know some roms on the s3 can remap the keys...don't want touchwiz...just too much unneeded stuff on it...well i think you get the point of what I'm trying to do (and yes i know of the diff child lock apps n whatnot but if rather just be able to do it with the phone being is strictly set up for him) i haven't really kept up with roms for the phone since the last rom i had on it for myself was aokp m6...any suggestions would be appreciated...there's no Google apps used except playstore (which i keep frozen)

Personally I would suggest one of the new cm10 builds, they're smooth and responsive and I feel like there are less settings for him to get into rshr than on aokp. I also like to pair my ROMs with devil kernel for better performance but it isn't necessary
I suggest you check out this rom

It's wifi only with phone functions disabled, so I think it might be right up your alley

[Q] Is it possible to install Galaxy S i9000 JB ROM on Vibrant?

I want install this rom to Vibrant, but I think I'll have manu problems with it: kernels, buttons, bootloader...
Is it possible or it's only dream?
Yeah it will give you all sorts of issues. There was a script floating around that was supposed to fix those issues so you could flash it after a ROM for i9000 or i897 and it would work. I think it was for ICS only but not sure.

There was a script awhile back that allowed users to flash 1900 ICS roms to the Vibrant(found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623840&highlight=flash+any+ics) However, it was discontinued awhile ago ^^; It definitely will not work with JB
One of the unfortunate truths Choks, is that the Vibrant has certain limitations to it. I know, I know....it's an awesome device, but JB is really pushing its limitations, and as such, you will be limited if you wish to have a wide array of JB roms to choose from. Personally I was never a fan of JB on my vibrant ^^ (ICS was awesome enough)...I think you should be happy with what you do have though, since it's simply amazing that our Devs have been able to get JB booted and working so well on the Vibrant.
