[Q] How to root Eries - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have an old Eries and would like to root it. I have an Incredible and have the one click root that I use on the Inc. Would that work on the Eries or is their another program to do this. Also what is the best Roms for the Eries and programs for this phone thanks guys.

I think that root programs are pretty much phone specific, so i dont think that would work. There is a one click root program for the eris in the market, just do a search for it. There is also a bunch of helpful information over at android forums in the all things root section for the eris. I could be wrong about it not working, since i am new to all this, but i have learned alot from all the helpful smart ppl in here. These guys rock

pretty much all inclusive guide right there and if any questions the "search thread/topic" usually pulls it up

I looked at this, but it's still a bit fuzzy to me. I'm totally new to Android and modding. I have no clue what their talking about when they say abd and what not.
Just among the best adb tutorial I could think of...

You could follow a [email protected] Android central. It is an auto root.
I used it and it was really easy.
Don't let anyone scare you, nothing wrong with an autoroot. Knowing the nuts and bolts is good, but hardly essential. This is what I used

I used that guide (on android central though), couldn't be any easier.
jcases guide was bomb. If you pay attention you can learn a lot that might be useful later. The ability to use adb nice for potential trouble shooting issues or modding rom's on your thunder bolt .
I used this: http://forum.androidcentral.com/thu...9-mac-procedure-how-root-htc-thunderbolt.html but it is only good if you have a mac. This guy made it idiot proof.

thanks for the video tut, really appreciated!
question though, why do you use both? shouldn't one just be enough.
this might be a stupid question though, seeing as i haven't watched the video yet, i just assumed that it covered everything.
I followed the guide here and watched the videos by nat3mil on youtube. Manual root was very easy.

It has been stated that you need to remove your CM partitions and then run webOS Doctor.

Well I have followed directions on how to remove the proper CM partitions and then ran an unmodified webOS doctor and the TouchPad now shows almost 14GB. I built a Meta-Doctor but there was no use for it after reading several people had success using the unmodified one.

How do you know if my Droid X2 is Liberty or Eclipse?

Whats the difference on them or what I don't get it thanks in advance!!
Eclipse and liberty are just roms that you can flash onto your x2 if you have rooted your phone. If you or someone you know hasn't personally put them on your phone, then you'll have neither. It isn't something that would be on there from the manufacturer.

to the OP...
if u are looking for info regarding those roms just check out their op's and also check the stickies here in general and the one by booked in development forum for all info...
you question is kind of vague and frankly the thread title was just very confusing with the wording u chose. I almost felt like english is not ur first language?
if u can clarify ur question and be more specific with it maybe I can answer it somehow...good luck
I believe the OP has flashed a theme intended for liberty/eclipse over his stock GB. He posted this in the Red eclipse/liberty theme thread:

yes sir..u are VERY right.
all I am trying to say is try to NOT be harsh...some things can read harsher than intended when type.
im not trying to say u didn't or that no one is trying to help out.
but it is also inevitable, that people no matter what they have read, will still need that little bit of "extra" info on "what to do now"
especially since our X2 can be picky with what you do or the process you use to do it
I really just said what I did in hope to "preempt" any "mean spirited" replies.
imagine how u would like to be answered when entering a site and following the rules at least to not post questions in dev section and u really don't understand all these : ROM, SBF, OTA, root, p3's, su, busybox, CWM, bootstrap, recovery, stock, modded, etc... words and what they mean.
now im DEFINITELY NOT saying go ahead and write out exactly everything the person needs to do. I am just saying don't be harsh. not that u were. or anyone else in this thread((yet))
just saying a bit of guidance and clarification on things asked is nice to see....basically common courtesy.....
imagine how u felt or I felt or anyone feels entering this "world" of flash addicts who do this every day lol.
((now if this was posted in dev forum as new thread I would call the DAWGS and say have at em for not reading the rules at all Hahaha))(
I am sorry ..this post has gotten longer than intended and I have succumbed to rambling and being off topic. ....
((don't mind the guy sitting on the couch eating leftover turkey/stuffing/ drinking too many beers(celebration ale yum!) ←←he talks to.much )
Lol
I think I.was a bit harsh.
Sorry!
You do tend to ramble on ash haha
But its a good thing, i tend to learn from your posts!

[Q] Noob to XDA Dev. Looking to see if I understand this right regarding ICS ROMs.

Hey guys! I've lurked around here for a while. I bought a Samsung Galaxy S II for ATT a few months ago after being a longtime iPhone user. Therefore, I'm fairly new to the whole Android tweaking process. I want to install an ICS ROM onto my phone, particularly CM9. I've read the stickies, and am really trying to understand, but at the same time, do not wish to brick my phone. So could someone tell me if this is correct? Or where I'm wrong? Based on what I've read here, to install ICS, I need to...
1. Root my phone as outlined in the thread for that. (The one about not activating the yellow triangle. Since I'm on 2.3.6, I'll need to use "Odin3 One-Click Downloader".)
2. Backup my apps and texts and crap using Titanium Backup to my SD card.
3. Install the proper kernel (where do I find this?) using Mobile Odin.
4. Make sure CWM is active, backup NAND (I assume this is an option?) and flash CM9.
5. Flash Google Apps.
6. Restore my Ti backup.
Thanks guys for the help! And sorry if I'm being stupid/completely misunderstanding.
Read, useless thread is useless

Read, read and read some more. Do a search for Hellraiser as there are no true ICS ROMs for this phone yet, only i900 ports.
If you need to ask questions like this, you are not ready for ICS and ICS is not ready for you.
Since I9100 kernel source code has only been out for a week and we had a bunch of I777-specific **** to fix - while lots of progress has been made things are not quite working yet.
man some people are rude in here....
And others are lazy. Welcome to XDA.
There are a lot of different roms. Usually they rewrite the kernel within the install of the rom. But basically you have the right idea...

Actually, it isn't a legit question as there is not yet a legit ICS ROM for the i777.

Facts are facts, loser. There is not yet a fully-functioning official ICS ROM released for the i777, so any talk of one is premature. The guy admits in the title of this thread that he is a noob and doesn't quite understand. These are exactly the people who should not be flashing ANYTHING, let alone a ROM that is not ready for primetime. But keep on encouraging him and others so that the forum gets filled with people needing help to fix what they messed up. I'm sure you'll be rewarded with tons of adulation for your efforts. Troll indeed.

REQ: iphone app ported to android, or something close

I have no developer skills at all and I'm illiterate when it comes to writing programs, so I'm hoping maybe someone is here who's infinitely more adept at this stuff than me who's willing to take this on (if not, well, thanks for reading anyway! )
can't send the actual itunes app link since it's blocked at work, but there's a review of an app here (http://www.iphonefreak.com/2010/09/midnight-hd-ipad-app-review-visual-delight.html) which I couldn't find anything similar on the Marketplace.
Anyone else interested in getting something like this app running on our platform? If so - can you do it since, as already stated, I can't do anything to help get this done?
