[Q] Battery discharging. - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
My battery seems to discharge while charging. It will never reach full charged(100%). When it hit 94% or so, it will start to discharge. Both charging thru USB or wall plug give the same result. Anyone encounter such problem and found a solution? Please share with me.

If i remember correctly the battery should charge to 100% then discharge itself to 90% then recharge so you don't overload it
Maybe it was discharging to 94% when you saw it

+1. It's normal.

Nope, that is definitely not the case. It was charging right infront of me, it never reach 96% let alone 100%.
The strange thing is that sometime it does charge to 100% and the green LED went off. This occurrence is like once in every 10 charges or so.

I had the same problem, I returnedit to my carrier and they gave meanother one. This one doesn't have that problem but mine has WiFi and Bluetooth issues now. I suggest you talk to your carrier

Re: Battery Drain While Charging
Has anyone else experienced this?
This is the first time I've had this happen to me....
Sometimes while charging my phone....I'll leave it idle for maybe an hour, and when I go to check my messages, I notice I've lost 10% of my charge while the phones "charging."

Are you charging using the stock charger? USB cable?
That sure sounds like a bad charger... or you have some kind of hardware short? My phone only loses about 10% in 7-8 hours. I can't imagine it on a phone that is plugged in and charging.
I read somewhere that once the phone reaches 100% it discharges slightly in order to protect the battery. My phone drops down to 95% after it reaches 100% then charges back up to 100% again.

I think it may be a bad charger.....Because if I leave my phone idle on the home charger (It's the oem one) it will eventually lose battery power.
But on a sidenote, I have my phone plugged into my usb right now and it is charging appropriately. But whenever I use the phone to text, or whatnot, it either stays charged at the current percentage, or it slowly loses power (albeit 1-2% every 10 minutes)
I've never had any of these problems before
ive experienced this a couple times. i charge it over night and when i wake up in the morning its at like 96%. when that happens i just unplug it, and plug it back in and eventually charges to full and it stays that way. i dont know why that happens, and it happens sporadically so i can't pinpoint the exact cause

This is the norm for me.
I am experiencing a worse version of this problem... I no matter whether I plug my phone into the wall charger that came in the box, or via usb, it actually loses charge while it is "charging". I have had it completely drain the battery while on charge. I've killed all applications, and the problem still exists. The only way around this is to turn the phone off completely while it is charging- which is something I feel I should not have to do. Not found a solution online yet...

[Q] Quick Question About Battery Calibration

Hey everyone,
I'm using the "Battery Calibration" app to calibrate my GS2 battery, and I have already charged it to 100% and wiped the "batterystats.bin" file, and completely discharged it.
Now I have a question about charging it back to 100% - I'm going to be charging it while the phone is turned off, so how long should I leave it on charge before I can be absolutely sure it's at 100%? Some posts suggest 24 hours, while others say overnight or even 8 hours or so is completely fine and enough for the battery to become fully charged. Also, I don't need to "bump charge" to properly calibrate it, correct? I just let it charge to 100% now, and then I can use it as normal, right?
Thanks in advance for your help!
8hours ish should take you upto 100%
And after its upto 100% its fine to use it as normal.

...yep...when you see on the display (by clicking home button) the battery icon showing inside 100% then you can unplug your phone and use it normally...battery have a limit of charge just to avoid corruption so when they are at 100% they automatically stop to receive more charge...that's why I think is useful to leave the phone in charge more than he need.

Now, it has been about 3 hours since I put my phone for charging, turned off, at a completely discharged 0% battery (I even tried download mode before I put it for charging, to make sure it was completely discharged), and now the charge meter is showing 100%...
I'm pretty sure that 3 hours is a VERY short time to charge to 100%... I haven't taken it off the charger yet, so would you recommend waiting a few more hours (maybe 5 more hours?), or is it fine to just take it off the charger right now?
I'm worried a bit now, because 3 hours seems an extremely short amount of time to charge a battery that is 'supposed' to run for 18+ hours...
Well, I just read that 3 hours is about normal, so thank you for your help!

Firstly, there isn't such a thing as battery calibration with Lithium batteries. Since there is NO MEMORY EFFECT.
Lithium batteries are not Lead Acid batteries, it does not need 8hr to 16hr trickle charge.
Charging is controlled by BMS, there is no such thing as Charging past 100%. So when it is considered 100% by the BMS (Voltage), the BMS will stop charging it.
Lithium batteries gets damaged when there is less than 10% charge, so emptying it to 0% is not a good idea. You cannot really extend Lithium batteries lifespan since it only has a 2+1/2 yr lifespan, 2000 to 5000 deep charge cycles and around 2,000,000 micro charge cycles. It is better to charge anytime you want, as long as it does not go below 10% (Most electronic equipments will state 0% at that time).
Deep Charge Cycle, when close to 0% (10% charge left in battery) you can charge 2000 times back to 100% (depending on quality of battery)
Micro Charge Cycle, when roughly above 40%, you can charge 2,000,000 times back to 100%.
Soooo..... would you like to limit battery charging cycles to 2000 or prefer that you can charge it 2,000,000 times?

[Q] Atrix wont charge fully please help!

Hi everyone,
Im running cherryblur 1.4d obviously rooted and unlocked. I've been running it like this for over a month now and its been great but a week ago my phone stopped charging up to 100% when I let it charge overnight. It reaches 90% and stops. I have a charger that charges the phone and an extra battery at the same time and it has worked great since I got it and the only way to get the batteries to go to 100 is to take the batteries out of the phone and put 5hem to charge in the battery slot. Please help me guys. Its not the battery because I have another battery and it won't charge fully either. I'm going crazy with this I've looked everywhere and haven't found anything
Charge your phone to its fullest capacity (I guess that would be ~90 for you)
Wipe battery stats in recovery, reboot.
Let the battery drain completely, until the atrix shuts off. Watch a bunch of videos or something.
Recharge back to full capacity, hopefully 100%

You might also want to try charging the battery with the phone switched off, when it reaches 100% remove the battery and wait for the no battery icon to appear on the screen. Then re-insert the battery and leave to charge for another hour or so.
After doing this, boot into CWM and clear the battery stats. This should fix your problem.

Mine won't charge to full unless I'm using the charger that came with it, ALL other chargers stop at 95-98%.

Make sure the other chargers are kicking out at least 700ma the moto charger kicks out 850ma.
Any less than 700ma and you'll not get a full charge, a lot of 3rd party chargers only 500ma which will not work too well.

^ This. Most people don't realize that they can't use just any charger with some phones, this phone being one of them. It requires a certain amount of juice running through it to charge properly, which is why if it's dead it won't charge from a USB port.

Thank you guys I'm in the process of trying the first suggestion I'll see if it charges fully tonight
Also if you are swapping batteries, the battery stats will continuously get messed up. It will be trying to configure the two as one and that could make this a reoccurring problem for you
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
Oh that could be it as well because the second battery I got drains quickly (or it shows that way) and spends the other half of the battery life (8~10hrs) at 1%
Ok guys turning it off and charging fully and then unplugging and plugging again, and wiping battery stats after worked perfectly. Thank you!
For anyone who has this problem you can wipe battery stats with the battery calibrator program or in CWM and then you must drain the battery after wiping the stats.

95% Charge

Any idea why the Xperia S only charges to 95% if you charge it whilst off but is happy to charge 100% when left on to charge.
It charges up to 100% then decharge down to 90% and so up again to 100% and it continues like this, to keep the battery as good as possible over a long time.

I have the same problem. I turned off the phone at 23:00, put to charge, woke up at 07:00, removed from charge and turned on, it was %95. Actually it changes, sometimes %97 sometimes %98. But if i charge it when phone is on it charges to %100 and keep it like that..
On or not the battery will be jumping from ~95% to 100% when left on charge. If you use a battery monitoring app you can see that, even whilst on and charging at 100%, the voltage changes from about 4.2 to 4.1 volts and continually up and down again. This is to increase the battery life because lithium batterys do not like to be kept at 4.2 volts for exessive periods of time.

Battery monitor clearly shows the phone charging to 95% or 100% dependent of its off or on state, there is none of this charging discharging you are on about.

When the phone is on, some battery power is used to maintain the screen backlight and the SoC. Therefore the overall battery consumption is higher, thus the system will charge the battery more, but it will actually stay at the same voltage.

The phone should charge to 100% when switched off and it clearly doesn't, you can give me all the charging mumbo jumbo you like but the handset should be at 100% when turned on but it never even achieves anything past 95%. Once the handset reaches 100% it should revert to a trickle charge not fanny about dipping 5% as is being suggested.

Yes, but things use to work in an optimized way, not in the way you would like to... Sony prefers to optimize the phone and the battery life than to make people happy by keeping 100% while decreasing drastically battery life...

Right I'll try one more time.
Turned off the phone charges to 95%, no higher and no lower and battery monitor widget can confirm this.
Turned on the phone charges to 100% and remains at 100% without variation until unplugged from the charger and battery monitor can confirm this.
You can see variations in both voltage and current as the charge cycle maintains either the off state 95% charge or the on state 100% charge but in either case the actual level of charge is without fluctuation.
Just picked my phone up from the changer. 99% battery.
I put the phone to charge overnight without turning it off and everyday I wake up at 100%

Not showing 100% even while left ON and charging
Tops out at 95% or 98%, but keeps varying from time to time ..... I have had the phone (XPS) for three days and not seen a 100% charge till now . Also one thing I have noticed is that the Notification light turns from Orange to Green. That's when I normally take the phone off charge.
Mine charges to 100% and stays at 100%.
mine SXS takes 20 minutes from 99 to 100%.

Battery Charging Issue

I don't know if some of you have the same experience but here is my issue:
I usually charge my phone when I go to bed at night and unplug it in the morning. In the recent a few days, I woke up and found out my GS3 is 99% charged and battery status is still charging after an overnight. I have the Battery Indicator Pro app on it and it keeps the log of all the changes of the battery, so I went to the log and saw that the battery was full charged at e.g. 5:32AM at 100% and CHARGING status, then at 6:15AM it was 99% and CHARGING. So I turned off the phone, and leave it charging when its off and turned it back on after 15 minutes, after a while it showed as FULLY CHARGED at 100% .
I think it was very interesting and would like to know if it's the battery problem or the phone problem, if there is anyone have the same issue.
THANKS!!

I've had the same problem with taking my phone off the charger and found bump charging helps (remove the phone when at 100%, let it drop and then re-plug it in).
As for not charging to 100%, is there something keeping it awake? background process? Screen not shutting off? Sounds like something is keeping the phone from a sleep cycle.
