Just saw this while drooling over a google image search for the Galaxy Tab and think that it is a MUST for the rest of us Galaxy users.
Not sure if this is actually the lockscreen, but if so, we need to get this ported.

EDIT 1: I KNOW there is an option for "Puzzle lock" in the settings, but that does not add a puzzle piece for UNLOCKING the phone. Which is the ability that I'm looking to get ported to the Vibrant.
EDIT 2: http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/32839-fascinate-system-dump.html
Now that we have this handy maybe someone here (again, I am about as capable as an infant when it comes to devving of any sort, even though my Winzip is up to date. )
If anyone has any input on this, please, any help is appreciated.
EDIT 3: It also appears that inside the framework-res there are icons for Voicemail and Email. Maybe we can get all of these icons working correctly. That would make this the end all lock screen IMHO.
I also attached the framework-res.apk and framework.odex to help this process along.
That's the same as the stock vibrant lock screen.... It happens to have one of the stock live wallpapers running too...

Did you not notice that there's a puzzle piece to unlock?
That's what I'm talking about, I want the puzzle piece for the unlock as well. I personally hate the freeswipe unlock method, it's terrible about pocket unlocks.
I figured the part that said "Fit Puzzle to Unlock" would be a decent giveaway.

You might want to have a closer look in your sound and display settings. Puzzle lock is there. I've used it sice day one.
The puzzle lock on the vibrant is only for missed calls and text messages.

The 'flavor text' for said option is "Show puzzle pieces in lock sceen for messages and missed calls"
I'm talking about the puzzle piece specifically for unlocking the phone.
If your phone has THAT specific option, PLEASE post a system dump so we can get it on the rest of ours.
Otherwise, don't add input that is useless.
Please read OP, and LOOK at the picture. I'm a noob to coding but NOT to forums OR Android. If the option was present in the phone, or somebody else had posted the lock screen here, I wouldn't have posted.
Sorry for being a douche, but ignorant posts are what have driven most respectable developers from these forums.

Its ok, be a douche I really don't care. Look for a system dump in that forum. Might have more luck looking at the source. I have the auto lock turned off so it doesn't affect me. I don't pick up my phone unless I'm ready to use it.
How did you disable your auto lock other than installing a disabling app?

As far as I know its app controlled. I used no lock but extended controls has a lot more options and its a 1.50. Its got grip of toggle options.

Ok, so we just have to wait. I overlooked the picture and read ur post before it was edited and took it at face value. Hope to get it thou, would be a nice change. The lock screen as is now on the Vibrant is what made me disable it.
it works on the vibrant as well all you have to do is put your phone in sleep mode have someone or yourself to call your vibrant do not touch until the caller has hung up then awake your vibrant and there you will see a missed call puzzle...enjoy

FYI,
The drawable files for the puzzle unlock without-notification are already in the stock vibrant framework-res.apk file, so it might be a simple XML edit to turn it on, though of course it might be far more complex too.
Kind of hard to know where to start without having a deodexed framework-res.apk from a fascinate to dig through though.
Cheers,
=)

You get an F- in reading comprehension.
He want's an unlock piece that's NOT A NOTIFICATION. Just a simple "move-the-piece-to-unlock" not a "swipe-the-whole-screen-to-unlock".
Updated OP with a link to the Fascinate system dump!

You are my hero!
Well I believe I found the xml file that controls what the lock screen displays, I even tried throwing the Fascinates xml in but it didn't work, must be another xml or something. It also looks like the Fascinate has puzzle lock notifications for Visual Voice Mail as well. I'll give it another look in the morning.
I'll be following this thread closely now...
It would also be nice to eliminate the flavor text...I find it useless, to put it kindly...(Was about to go on a 30 sentence rant about how dumb that flavor text is...)
This would be great
I too would be interested in getting this on the Vibrant. I am not a fan of the sweep to unlock. Not sure why this was not the default behavior in the first place.

The default password is the top left dot (just click on it). Once you have setted your own pattern (you can do that by tap&hold and then select change pattern) it's stored on a file called lockcode.txt in the app folder.
Ohhh! Looks amazing, installing ASAP !
EDIT: First thoughts:
WOW! This app is amazing, especially for the first beta. Honestly, I'd use this as is with no changes. I think I'm going to skin it later this weekend to see how it looks. Therer were a few things I noticed however.
If you enter the wrong pattern, "again" is spelled "aggain".
The load time took about 5-6 seconds on my touch.
That was really all that I noticed with it. Works very smooth and and I really like the transparent affect on it!
Just a few suggestions:
Please keep it simple like it is, too much extra will just slow it down.
The option to overlap existing lines in the pattern would give some extra security.
Making it full screen with an extra row of dots.
Sorry to sound like a pain, but I really like this development and would like to see this grow a lot.
Again, excellent work, keep it up !
Omgawd. Alfonso. I love you. You always come out with the things i need at exactly the right time I was looking for something like the iPhone S2U. I know A_C almost perfected it, but i really wanted a passcode thing. I'm going to double lock my phone now, Throttle Lock under my S2U2.
i think maybe it would be faster if the background was all black. i think transparency slows it down...
anyways, this is amazing.
EDIT: nevermind black background looks ugly.
WOW. Dude, you've done it again, this is ground breaking stuff.
I can;t fault it apart from the slow loading times. It's awesome
Also, is there anyway you can allow diagonals from one to the other? If you see what I mean?
Nice work!
Thanks, coooooool app. T M Z
Hi,
It looks awesome! Can anyone report on the effect on battery life?
Battery Life: ive only been using for about an hour and nothing bad. plus it only opens when you wake up your deivce so its not ALWAYS running.
I'm skinning it as we speak!
Very nice work APBilbo. Thank You. I have been looking for something like this for a while now. S2U2 is just to overloaded for my liking. It didn't seem to work right at first after I set the pattern, so I soft reset and now it works flawless on my Sprint Touch stock 6.1 ROM. Again Thank You, BOO
One Word... "Fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Loving it.. lookin forward to the creativity to continue..
Bien Hecho!
I've been looking for an Android lock app ever since i saw the video preview of googles android OS.. what ive been looking for
great work!
Are you planning on adding features like S2U2? I asked A_C to add the patter feature to his unlock and he would not so I'm hoping you add the features he has so we can all have the best of everything.
Having an option to make the pattern "pads" invisible would allow the features from S2U2 can be added onscreen
so i made a "skin" for this.

Thank's everybody for the feedback!!
As i fas as I see there's no problems other than the speed thing... I'll try to speed it up a little bit. I can't promiss anything though.
About where will the throttle development go I don't plan to make it very complex. May be in the future I'll add:
- Full screen support.
- Some icon notifications for missed calls, new sms, new mail.
Understand that this is mostly a locking app to secure your device. Any info given on it will be public, so it will not show anything like next appointment, last called id, etc.... Though you're able to receive calls while the device is locked.
Thanks!!!

I don't know what it is about posting on here but my browser crashes each time I write something thorough. :|
Any who to be short and save myself from tossing this computer I've been talking with the Dev of Handcent [it's a sms/mms application] about making an experimental new build with a new UI.
I like using handcent because it shows the users photo next to there name and sub text underneath it from the last message sent.
And my idea for a new UI falls along the lines of the dev of Buka and Totem? And recently Radiant. At the home screen it has a gallery button and it has a sliding UI similar to the Ipod touch album chooser and HTC Hero's Album chooser as well.
What the Idea is it to make the contact photo like the album, and then place the users text underneath it.
I drew my own crude version of it below, [this is why I'm asking if you're good at photo shop, I clearly don't have the first hint on using it.] and I'll include the Ipod touch's UI

}
And just for some talk back what do you guys thing about this idea?
I personally see it like this:
Slide to select the users photo, then when it's set and locked on the user text falls down in an animated way then piles up correctly like the threaded text does.
Then to view someone else you'd select the photo and here is where my idea splits.
I'm not too sure if I'd like the screen to rotate in a 3d square like motion or just slide like the album covers.
Of course I know there's plenty work to be had about this and it would take a lot of CPU and for good contact photos it would have to be a place in handcent to assign them and not based off of the Google image you have since that can only be blown up and that makes it blurry.
And of course I am not a dev at all!
So if you'd like to make this image I'd appreciate it :]
And mind you the proportions of portrait and landscape.
And so far here is the work of some friends and forum people that have helped me along with this idea.
From "Konzern" Over at Android Community dot com.
And our latest submitted images :]

I think thats actually a pretty cool idea for a messaging UI. I'll try to draft something up as well but one thing I would like to point out in the development of this is to also have an option for list selection. While this is cool for one or two conversations, if you have to scroll through many it "could" be annoying depending on how smooth the sliding between photos goes. Awesome idea anyway. I cant wait to see it.
I'm lovin the drawing. You should just use that

Well now that I have more time to type.
In my orginal email to the dev I also throgh that in as well.
I thought about it like how Google maps has the list selection at the bottom left corner.
But overall I think we all could be productive here and help the dev with a guideline of how we see it and be supportive :]
Or maybe he'll read here and pick and choose.
i removed the app tab because i realized its not supposed to be there lol
Here is my mock-up. I chose to do it in like the hand-drawn example above, with chat-room style texts instead of bubbles.

I emailed handcent and they replied
"Hello,thanks for your suggestion,the new UI example is cool and something same as i think (but no implement ), i will let ui design view the thread first and add it to develop plan"
So don't run around expecting it, but it definitely could happen.

all i have to say to that is... damn that looks amazing... i still thought the paper ui was a good one though, and that font man, that font.
but for real hettbeans, that is amazing and i would use whichever app implements that idea.
also to the ones designing this, you should pm or somehow alert rvg151 (the guy with the modded mms.apk) to this thread, and see if he can incorporate something like this into the standard mms.apk. that would be killer.

Well aside from getting that particular dev to do this, why not start an XDA project to see if any devs are interested in implementing that UI on a new sms app. It doesn't seem like the UI will see the light of day unless someone makes it happen. I gotta admit, its a shame since I do like the mockup UI created by hettbeans even though I'm not really a fan of iphone-esque design of coverflow.

Both of you guys, go download the Buka game demo and go to that gallery option and tell me if that can be implemented/was made for a messaging app you wouldn't want it lol.
I don't like the Iphone style either but when I saw it in that game and the color scheme I thought of Handcent and how awesome it would be.

I'm a big fan of UI uniformity. I think the proper thing to do would just be a row of side-scrolling thumbnils like what the Market used to have.
So,
Here's the deal:
I am a very capable java programmer, who wants to change some things about his N1. I don't care if the program I create can only be used for people who have root, (and for free).
Currently I have the N1 rooted, and am running Cyanogen's 5.0.5.2
My goal is to change the default lockscreen to include the following:
- SMS/Email display
- Upcoming Appointment
- Music control
All I need is the following:
- Where is the source code for the original located.
- Where is the apk installed that handles the current default lockscreen.
- How do I compile the source into apk so it can replace the default lockscreen.
Btw, you'll probably hear a lot more from me the coming months as I'm bringing a whole team of 'bout 20 programmers to the Android. ;-)
(We're from a university study, specialized in Artificial Intelligence. And our goal is to make (good) games.)
Any help, tips or requests would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

This is a great idea. The thing I'd like to see added to the lock screen most would be the info on the current song playing in the Android music player (Artist, Album, Track title). No more swiping the screen to get into the player - just hit the trackball or power button to activate the screen to see what you are listening to.
Anyway, I wish you success.

Ok, so im coming from WP7 and i really liked how that showed notifications on the lock screen. If you havent seen it, this is what it looks like:
http://bfitz.me/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/IMG_0374-300x244.jpg
Basically, im looking for something similar for android. I have WidgetLocker so its just a matter of finding a program that displays like that. I tried Executive Assistant, and its ok, but i dislike the fact that i can press the notifications and see previews, and then navigate to the full app. I just want a display that shows how many calls and how many texts/emails ive missed since i last looked at my phone. Does this exist? Or will I have to create it?
best solution i can think of is go launcher ex with go launcher notification. works with their sms app and googles gmail app
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
You could download Widget Locker and add some widgets to your screen. That's probably the closest you will ever get.
I have widget locker but i cant find appropriate widgets. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I found Missed It!, seems like the closest im going to get. I dont care about the icons, just wanted a notification on the lock screen that doesnt call out a program when you touch it (because that kind of defeats the purpose of a lock screen, if you can bypass it).

Ok, so im coming from WP7 and i really liked how that showed notifications on the lock screen. If you havent seen it, this is what it looks like:

Basically, im looking for something similar for android. I have WidgetLocker so its just a matter of finding a program that displays like that. I tried Executive Assistant, and its ok, but i dislike the fact that i can press the notifications and see previews, and then navigate to the full app. I just want a display that shows how many calls and how many texts/emails ive missed since i last looked at my phone. Does this exist? Or will I have to create it?

http://goo.gl/y2ec5 Widget Locker is based in ADW so the ADW notifier app should work on WidgetLocker regardless of what launcher you are running. When installing WidgetLocker you should have been presented with this info and prompted to download the plug in.
Hats off to you if you can create it.

You need SMS Unread Count from the Market. Icons are custom.
You could try widget locker with elixir. Elixir has widget counters for phone, SMS and Gmail.

Might also want the Elixir Personal addon if using this.
Beamed in from WinBorg 4G via XDA Premium app
I use smsunread count too but think of this, if anyone has used phantom music player they know it can remain "hidden" until touched. Well I was just thinking of working on a new project thanks to this very thread.
- A widget that remains hidden until a number reaches any value above "0". This way you can put it on your lock screen and its not there, Just like wp7, until its activated by receiving a txt, email, call etc... now heres the question. Should it be 1 widget where they all light up when 1 is activated, or have individual widgets similar to smsunread. I think individual would be a better touch. Time to get to work.

if you hold down on an icon in tool mode of widgetlocker there is a little slider box to disable touches. This will allow you to see the notifications or have anything on the screen without tapping it by accident

You can't bypass the lock screen with Widgetlocker. If you press a sms, mail, or call icon it takes you to the main lockscreen which shows when you are not using Widgetlocker. Then it takes you to the app after you unlock from there.
If you are using Widgetlocker in Tool mode, it will take you to the app right away, but that's because your device is not locked in Tool mode.
I was looking into this a while back and apparently Tasker has that function. I can't find the link but I know there was a guide specific to that.

How do you use custom icons with smsunread, and what other widgets are you running on your lock screen? Is there anyway you could point me in the direction of your icons or send them to me
I love my SGSII, but some things just plain suck though. Does anyone know of solutions to the following:
Bluetooth
Poor A2DP quality (low bitpool)
Gets hot and battery drain after turning the car stereo off.
Often doesn't respond to forward/back controls.
Lockscreen
I'd much rather just have the stock Google lockscreen. Anyone know how to restore this?
Call answer slider
These are ugly and not very smoothly animated. Anyone know a way to replace these with stock or otherwise?
Apps missing from Market on KE7
I've noticed a few of these. It finds Samsung-specific apps instead.
Swipe to dismiss notifications
I guess this is just a useful cyanogen feature that I miss.
No silent state
I want 'ring and vibrate', 'vibrate only' and 'totally silent' ring modes on volume button like Cyanogen, or in the notification drop down. As it is, I only have everything or vibrate only. It's very annoying having to go into the menus or use an ugly widget.
Change what double-tapping the home button does
Currently goes to Vlingo, which is awful. It could do something useful
The UI still has loads of poor design elements left over from the SGS
Most notably, words that don't fit in boxes and fall onto 2 lines as below (regardless of font used)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Also, loading bars often overlap other text and elements. It looks sloppy. Why do Samsung think this is an improvement over stock?
The Gallery app has two menus to send things
Ways to share pictures is now split between 'send via' and 'share via'. This is completely unnecessary. Why would Samsung do this? Can I install the stock gallery app?

I use widgetlocker to bypass the stock lockscreen. There is a setting in widgetlocker which allows you to bypass your stock lockscreen so when you "slide to unlock" it goes straight to your homescreen. Plus you can add widgets, etc. which is a very nice feature.
coming from the iPhone (though liking the GS2 very much) I find it annoying how incosistent the UI is.
To share a picture from the browser is a completely different action than sharing something from the gallery...
I've got a higher bitpool lib uploaded... Wanna try it?
www.villainrom.co.uk/SGS2/VRTweaks/VillainROM 1.0/liba2dp.so
Back up the old one, and put in /system/lib/ and see if it helps
that the mediascanner runs everytime you hook that thing up copy smthing to the sdcard

Is this the original One from the villain thread? Because that got my sgs2 stuck at the boot screen!
Add to this list the video camera which constantly goes in and out of focus.

wow is that bad, i never knew these types of things existed. i just thought it was identical to AOSP code based ROMs. samsung should really feel silly for UI issues like that. particularly because they are stock elements gone awry allegedly due to samsung's custom skin of the device. they broke stock!
Yes it's very sloppy. All of these were present on the first Galaxy S. Either fix thhem, or put it back to stock!
More issues:
Setting to 'power saver mode' disables sync. Returning to normal mode doesn't re-enable it.
How the feel do I snooze the alarm?
Network data stops working, with the upload arrow stuck on but no download.
You can set the snooze settings under advanced settings when you create or edit an alarm. Tab on snooze and set the snooze timeout and the number of times you are allowed to snooze.

These things "Suck"? Sure, they can be inconvenient, they're minor software bugs I imagine. SGS2 is new. Give it some time

Well, the battery draining in less then half a day is not properly a minor inconvenience, given that it's a mobile device. IMHO.
Even the sound quality over bluetooth is a major letdown for me, to be true. I am coming from an Iphone4 whose BT sound quality was great and I'm pretty disappointed.
