Get passed activation screen - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anybody know how to get around the activation screen? With motoblur you type ##bluroff, with sense UI you just try to activate but hang up three times, with stock android just press the four corners in a clockwise manner starting in the yore left but how do you do it in touchwiz?

Pressing home has never worked on a phone that has never been activated, when you clear out a phone or do the correct combination to get passed the activation screen then pressing home works

Just picked up the phone. I tried the online activation and it didn't work. I had to call 1-877-807-4646 from some printed instructions from the Verizon store. After all that, when you turn on the phone and press the button to activate, it calls *228 and that's it.

Hit the emergency button and press* #83786633 and it will say "soft key enabled" and then disspear then then the home key.
In the attached picture, the last 3 was left out because once you enter it in, it disappear and displays soft key enabled and back to regular emergency screen.

I hate to bump an old thread but, this helped me today and, in case someone else needed the info, I wanted to confirm that this worked perfectly for the Continuum as well. I would thank you but no thank button.

Can you help me please? I can't seem to get it to work. I followed the instructions to the letter, but after I hit 'home', nothing happens...

If that doesn't work, you can also try to restart the phone in airplane mode. From the activation screen -> Hold Power button -> Airplane Mode ON -> Hold Power button -> Power off.
Once you boot back up the activation screen won't even pop up so you won't have to dial any silly codes n ish... hollaaa

Thanks for helping me get past the activation screen! =]
Although, now that I've rebooted, I have a blank screen (besides that bar on the top which tells you the time and wifi signal strength). I can pull down and click the screen with the wifi, gps, bluetooth, etc., but that's about it. What should I do to get the home screen and such to show up?

Man, thanks!
I purchased this phone about a few months ago from a guy at a flea market.
It has been basically a paper weight since Verizon say's it was stollen.
Now at least I can use it for music, wiFi.
Any ideas on how long phones stay on the blacklist?
Meaning do they want the money bad enough to let the hardware back on board?

Since Verizon informed you that the device was reported stolen (circumstances of purchase seem to support likelihood), you now have reason to believe that you've received and now possess stolen property. It may be wise to check your state's laws before doing anything else. I doubt that Verizon's going to send a goon squad to your door, but the critical point is that under the circumstances, you need to make an especially well-informed decision about using that phone. I am not a lawyer, but I know enough to say you've entered a grey area and should proceed with care.

[Q] screen asleep during call

been having a problem with the 2.2 roms. I install them and the screen will go to sleep during a call, and the only way to wake it up is to either hang up the call or plug in the charging cord. The phone will wake normal when i flash back to a 2.1 rom. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix on froyo roms.
Enable trackball to wakeup under cyanogen settings or something like that.
press send + vol up (or vol down, believe it's vol up) to wake up phone. mods please move to q&a thread. thanks and hope this helps.

You almost had it.
Press and hold vol+, then while holding that, press and release the send button. That will wake the screen without disturbing the call.

I agree that should normally work, but at least for me when using speaker phone I can't just move the phone to wake it. using trackball wake/unlock works fine though

How hard is it to program the ROM so that the screen turns back on when you touch it?

That works but if you have your phone on the table in front of you w/speakerphone enabled while some robot is giving you 5 minutes of number equations, the phone will timeout. When the trackball wake option is selected in CyanogenMod settings/input settings, it will wake the device after you've manually turned the phone off but it doesn't wake the screen after it's timed out. I have been trying to use tasker as a way around this problem but I haven't been able to successfully write a working profile

I'm bumping this thread because I have the same problem but my volume rocker is broken/missing so it is very difficult for me to press vol up/down. I need to use a pen tip or needle, which I usually do not have readily available.
Is there any other option out there for me? Why can't I use the trackball or just the Send key????????????
If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.
FYI, I'm running GSB 1.4 (CM-7 Gingerbread based ROM).
edit: Some users on the CM forums said that pressing the Menu or Home keys worked, but that doesn't work for me. They were on CM6, so maybe that doesn't work in CM7, I don't know.

I seem to recall that in CM settings, you can configure what buttons can wake the phone up. You should be able to set it to the trackball.

Power Button Question

Is there an app that allows you to reassign the functions of the power button to another key? I am trying to minimize how often I have to use the power button because of the issues several of us are having with the power button.
What are the issues with the power button?
Its hard to describe, its as if the Power Button is moving into the phone it is not sticking out nearly as much as it was when it was new as a result it is becoming tougher to push as it becomes flush with the top of the phone.....

I know what you mean. I came from the Droid X and my first thought when using the Thunderbolt was "WTF at the power button!?" It sits too damn flush with the top of the phone. It took me a good 2-3 days to get used to it. I kept having to look at the top of the phone to get my finger in the right spot.
Anyways... are you rooted? Das BAMF has a feature that allows the volume rockers to be used to wake up the phone. You could then download something like SwitchPro and use a widget to turn to the screen off. Essentially you'd never have to use the power button then.

Yes I am rooted, I have not tried any custom roms yet. I will try SwitchPro and see how that works. Thanks for the info!!!
SwitchPro does not have anything that looks like it would work as a power button, are there any other suggestions?
I use the free version of quick boot and hardly ever use the power button it allows:
reboot
recovery
bootloader
Power off

don't ignore this link because its the only way to get it to wake with the volume rocker buttons
I also downloaded Screen Off to put my device in sleep mode. With these two apps the only time I need to use the power button is when I'm updating ROMs or I need to power on my phone.
Good luck

[Q] Disable power button menu in lock screen

Is there a way to disable the menu option when long pressing the power button when the phone is in lock mode?
My phone is switching its self off sometimes while in my pocket.
I have tried widget locker but that does the same as the stock screen and still offers this menu while the phone is locked.
I'm using Redmi Note 8 pro Miui 12 Global Rom Android 10 i not found the option sec_key.kl
I can't answer your question directly other than to say you may be blaming the wrong thing - is it really possible that you can keep sustained preasure on the switch for about 8 seconds?
Is it possible that your phone may be rebooting / hanging / freezing in your pocket like mine and many others are?
Have a look here and here to start
Two seconds is enough in my stock lockscreen. So it's very much possible.
Stupid how the shutdown-window is accessible through the lockscreen. Takes away the whole function of this so called lockscreen..

Tapping or pressing thepower button will bring the swipe screen / lock screen back but this does not stitch off the phone!
From OFF, if I press and hold the power switch, the lock screen comes on, then goes off after 5 seconds. At this point, the phone has not shut down.
From OFF, if I hold the button down for about 9 seconds, it does shut down.
As I said, I don't think this is all that easy to do by accident - maybe even impossible! BTW, my phone is stock.
I'd still say it's the dreaded phantom rebooter

Never mind, you're right about that. I stand corrected. It takes a lot of effort to shut your phone off with the power button, so that can't be the reason OP's phone is shutting off.

Thanks very much for this
Just removed the wake option from the power button.
To answer a few other posts. The few times it has switched off it has only been while in my jacket pocket. Carrying my niece, seat belt on/off etc. I know it appears difficult to replicate but I have not had any other issues like mentioned in the other forums linked in post 2.
The reason I think its the power button is because I have taken my phone out of my pocket recently and noticed that the menu to shut down has been visable on the screen. I haven't had an issue of it turning off while on a desk etc which is why I think its the power button.
I may be wrong and if it carries on turning off I will look at other options but I do think its silly (how ever hard to replicate) that an option to access the shut down menu while in lock mode is stupid.
By removing the option to wake from the power button and setting widgetlocker to block homehelper there is no way to access the menu the power button had until the phone is unlocked. Which is how the lock screen should work regardless of if it solves my problem or not.
For SGS2 users, I used Root Explorer to edit:
Code:
/System/usr/keylayout/sec_key.kl
I found the following line:
Code:
key 116 POWER WAKE
To disable the Power button from waking up your device, simple delete the word 'WAKE', save the file, and reboot.
Cheers to the others in the HD2 thread for the tip.

Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues

RAZR Maxx Broken Power Button

My Power button quit working yesterday. I am trying to remap my volume button to wake the screen, and be the new power button. I can't seem to get it to work. I am rooted and I am using root explorer to edit the text.
I have found a number of apps that will wake my screen and some of them work okay, but I have to have lock screen enabled because of my corporate email, and once the screen locks, the apps don't work.
Also, I am worried that if my phone ever get's powered down (runs out of battery), I don't know how I would turn it back on.
Any advice???

I need a physical button. I'm rooted on Gingerbread and I want to update to ics but I can't figure out how to fastboot without a physical power button
There's a few apps in the store like 'quickboot' that'll allow you to boot into fastboot if rooted. Just remember for menus like recovery, you're likely to be stuck once you need to use the power button to select an option

Power off button

Hi. I'm having a trouble with my LG G2 mini. When I get the phone in my pocket, unintentionally, I hold the power off button and even when the phone is blocked, if you hold the power off button, it restart. Sometimes I'm walking on the street and I hear the booting sound from my pocket and I'm like... WTF?
Someone know how to deactivate this function? is a pain in the ass.
Thanks and sorry for my REALLY bad english
I've never noticed such thing as restarting, but I have similiar problem with Volume+ and Volume- - there's camera and quick note shortcuts by default and I can't get rid of them...
root -> exposed -> G2 tweaks box
There you can set the behaviour of the volume buttons.
Don't know if you can set power button, but I never had problems with it.
Yeah cool, but You have to pay to unlock those features.

You can buy a phone for a lot of money and tell us you can not afford a software for a few bucks?
Shame on you.
The developer spend a lot of time for it.
I simply prefer to spend my money on something, that I need more than that.

AFAIK long pressing of power button is not handled by the OS.
It works even when the device freezes or you tried to boot with a non working kernel.
Some kind of emergency restart that nags you.
I was very happy that it works this way while testing custom recoveries.
Ok now i'm having a new problem. If you deactivate de vol+/vol- function in the bloq screen if you press vol+ amd vol- at the same time for a few secods, the phone just can't start until you press the power button for a few seconds to restart it. I guess I will have to buy a case for my phone
