I recently switched roms and lost the Avatar launcher and the Sims 3.apk.
I know you can open Avatar through the gallery but that's not as good for showing off.
Can anyone send me a link to download them, or maybe rip them off your device?.
I really miss them.
There are many ways to solve this.
First, is search the forum.
Second, know something about his, download a stock rom and pull it for yourself.

I am having a similar problem trying to install Avatar. I am running Bionix Final - Sims 3 installs fine, Avatar is a no go. I tried to copy it into /system/app using Root Manager - rebooted and it still does not appear... any ideas?
I don't really know, I'm still a noobie to this android stuff. I just pushed it into system/app/ using ADB, and it worked for me. I'm using fusion 1.1.

Is that Bionix a Froyo build?
I've posted a modified Avatar.apk that looks for the movie in the proper location on Froyo ROMs. It's tested on Onyx ROM, but should work on any Froyo ROM. It's here if anyone still looking for a workaround about this and the apks posted above don't work for you.
On avatar it says application not installed...? Also when I download it where does it download the file?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I get a file not found when launching the avatar apk. I'm running macnut12. Hmmm, maybe I deleted the movie in the internal sd by mistake. Reverting back from a stock froyo (e.g. Eugene's unofficial froyo) through Odin should fix this issue. Am I correct?

Is that directed at me? Do you mean on your phone? Downloads from the web should end up in a folder called Downloads on the internal sdcard. From there copy with root explorer or adb to the proper location (/system/app)
Sims 3
When I had this issue I had lost the entire Sims 3 game and not just the launcher. The second post only includes the launcher apk, so I will attach both. I am only reattaching the launcher just in case the one posted somehow does not work with the launcher posted prior.
FYI - I pulled these from my stock dump I made before I loaded my first custom ROM, and from what I have heard they will work ONLY on the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959 and nothing else.
It may not matter, but I think it is best to install them in order. Also since the max upload on apk (for me at least) is 8Mb and the game is 74Mb I am putting them into an archive first and doing an external link, so you will need 7zip or something similar.

These are standard APK files. Basically they are Android installer packages. What to do with them or how to install them are basic aspects of using Android. If you plan on using an Android device as anything beyond a basic consumer device you should take the time to understand these basics because putting them here is beyond the scope of this thread.
This should help.

So do you have a T-mobile Vibrant SGH-T959? It absolutely will not work if you don't.
Did you install both APK files in the correct order for Sims 3?
Are you using a custom ROM? It may not work in all ROMs. If you are using a AOSPish ROM like Macnut I don't know if it will work, because AOSP is built from the (Android Open Source Project) and not from Samsung/T-mobile firmware.
I have only tested this to work on Bionix and Auxra ROMs myself.
I have a samsung vibrant... I am using android 2.2 i have no custom rom installed.. do i need to rename it are something. what is the order of the sims 3 apk. can u list a step by step instruction list on how to do this..

Something is wrong with your statement. Maybe I should have been more explicit in my questions. This only works for US T-mobile Vibrants. It is an exclusive item that was (non-exclusive version now available in the market for $4.99 http://www.appbrain.com/app/the-sims™-3/com.eamobile.sims3_na_qwf) only available on US T-mobile Vibrants. This package only restores Avatar and Sims 3 for those who lost it, it does not provide it to those that should not have it.
Here are the problems with your statement:
You can not be using a stock firmware and also be using 2.2. Sorry you have to pick one as T-mobile has not pushed a OTA 2.2 out yet. This is not for Bell customers or other non United States phones.
There is no reason for you to have lost these packages if you are not running a custom ROM as they are not uninstallable.
So as you can see, there is something very fishy with your story. If you are just confused and not lying about your situation then you are running a custom ROM or you would not have lost these. In this case try re-downloading the files, use the link in my first post (Post #13) and you would have to be really confused to not figure out the order to install because they are numbered. If it can not parse these then either your download is corrupt, you are missing one of the two installs, or phone is not a United States SGS-T959.

Don't know. Hang on a minute, I'll check.
Don't know why but de-odexer failed to de-odex it. I'm running a de-odexed rom so I can't test it now.
Thanks narco, but it didn't install. I took the apk out of the rar file you posted and tried to install that. No joy.
I really thought this was the right forum. I saw someone get yelled at in the Dev forum for posting app requests.
Don't know anything about de-odex so can't say why your file didn't work. I really like the ROM I'm using except for a few little ommissions like this. I wouldn't mind the file manager from the stock rom either if you have it. I hate these ad-supported ones in the market. I know I should support the developers and buy something, but these are things we got for free with our phones. I just want some of that free goodness.

No worries. Coincidentally, I happened to de-odex that file since my last post. So here is the de-odexed version that I have running perfectly on Froyo. And since you need it I'll attach a de-odexed copy of the file manager as well.

narco, what am I doing wrong? I downloaded the rar files you posted and extracted the apk file. I moved the apk files to my internal SD card, then used a version of "Root Explorer" to launch the installer on these files. I get a message that says they weren't installed. No other helpful information as to why.
Is there some other method of getting these files to install?

Yes there is.
First you need to install the SDK.
Then plug your phone into your computer, enable USB debugging, open a command prompt on your computer, navigate to the folder where your apk resides and enter the following commands:
Code:
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb root
restarting adbd as root
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/st19 /system
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb push VoiceRecorder.apk /system/app/
C:\Phone Hacking\Vibrant>adb reboot
Okay, I think I got it. I installed the sdk and tried the whole adb thing, but it said I couldn't go into adb root on production builds, then it occurred to me that all you were trying to do was move the apk file into the /system/app folder which can only be accessed by root.
I already had Root Explorer, which I used to move the apk file and it worked. Thanks for posting the files and your help. I've been wondering what I could do with ADB. I messed around with the usb drivers for a while but ended up getting adb to work via the wirelessadb app that was included in the Onyx rom.
Learning something new everyday.
Thanks again.

The reason you got an error about adb not switching to root mode is that you are running a production kernel. You might consider changing to a custom kernel. You can run a rooted kernel along with your current rom.
I would suggest one of Eugene's custom kernels. I currently run A4 but there is a new A5 out that I will switch to later tonight.
If you can't figure out how to install it send me another message. I'll be glad to help.
Edit: Just updated to A5. Runs Great! Super fast awesomeness!

Try this, from Bionix final.Copy to root and use root explorer to copy to system/app.
This is my first week with rooting/flashing. My primary reason for going this route has been to get some froyo goodness and extend my battery life. I have been reading that the stock kernel is the best way to get the most battery life. What do the custom kernels get you? I've stayed away from the lag fixes as well for the same reason.
Thanks for being so helpful.

Hello all
When I had Galaxy S, I found out that flashing custom ROMs not only gives you huge benefits, but also has drawbacks - one of them is loosing the additional languages that regional firmwares have.
Then I found out this great thread which showed me what files to replace, to get back all the missing languages.
Now I just got Galaxy S 2 and it has the right keyboard, and I'm rooted so I thought I'd take the keyboard files and flash them on whatever ROM I choose.
My question [AT LAST!] is:
What are the respective files, libraries, etc. that are required for this to work? Are they the same as in Galaxy S, are there more or less?
Thanks
Samsung keyboard files are AxT9IME.apk found in system/app and libXt9core.so found in system/lib.
Thanks, but it didn't work.
I found the files, but it seems that the ones in 2.3.3 are way different than those in 2.3.4 so the Samsung Keypad just disappears...
Seems I'm stuck with the buggy market options.
You can try clearing the keypads data under settings/applications/manage applications then reboot the phone.
It doesn't give force closes or anything, replacing the app just makes it disappear from the list. Tho it's still visible with Titanium as a crossed out entry.
That's odd, how did you install the new files?
First I tried to do it via CWM, but I probably messed it up, since I can't make my own scripts and just steal someone else's anyway it did nothing.
Then I tried manual replacing via Root Explorer and then the keypad disappeared.
I'll find a way to do it, the only thing I don't know - are the 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 files compatible. If not there's no point trying to do it, right?
I don't see there being any difference between 2.3.3 and 2.3.4 but if you want you can just download a rom that is 2.3.4 and extract the files you need.
I think I know why there's a problem. I'm trying to replace an odexed version of the Samsung Keypad, and I copy both files. And probably there's some place else in the Android OS which does a check and causes the error.
Cause I replaced Swype sucessfuly (and it didn't have an .odex part).
Can it be that?
UPD: Yes, it's totally that, I deleted both the .apk and .odex files and placed a dedoexed version of the AxT9IME.apk in system/app and it worked again. Now I have to find a way to deodex the apk I have, and I know nothing of programming
This thread might be helpful. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132724 I briefly looked over it and it doesn't seem to be that hard. Good luck

Hi, i'm new to the ROM building/editing stuff. I've read a lot about building ROM's from scratch, but thats not what i'm interested in. I would like to know if, and if i can how, i can edit an existing rom for the Samsung Infuse 4g such as the stock rom and replace stock apps. I want to just edit some of the system/apps like the stock launcher, stock messaging app, etc and replace them with different ones that i already have downloaded. I don't want to edit any of the really deep/internal stuff just the stock applications that are loaded on the phone. Pretty much i want to theme it i guess you could say. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction?? Thanks in advanced. I'm looking forward to working with custom ROM's.

Assuming your file is a .zip file, you could just replace the applications you want (found in the "system/app" folder) on the zip, and sign it afterwards with a tool like AndroidSigner. It works for me
dsixda's kitchen
I haven't used this, but I have seen other ROM modders talk about this application called Kitchen (by dsixda). The link to the post is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
From the looks of it, it fits your bill.
you have Output the /system and do some work like change themes and other stuff and their is guys in Android Development and Hacking>Android Software Development
First off, thanks for all your replies, I appreciate getting some assistance. To answer most questions, yes I have the rom as a .zip file and flash it with cwm. I will try to replace the apps I want and then look into signing it ( which I don't know a whole lot about, but ill Google it.)

Is there any possibility to the files that don't contain "camera", but are relative to the camera?

Once you find out the dependent files (Re-read the guide) you take these files and package them in CWM flashable .zip not necessarily adding them into the apk file.

I have found 4 files (below) which contain "camera" in their names, but just have no idea to add into apk file.
Is there any possibility to the files that don't contain "camera", but are relative to the camera?
OK, I will take it a read, thank u.

Yes system/lib.. you can transfer them via recovery too instead of making a flash able zip..
Yes there are possibilities that there will be files without the name camera in them.. but that's what logs are for

Once you find out the dependent files (Re-read the guide) you take these files and package them in CWM flashable .zip not necessarily adding them into the apk file.

Well, I almost give up this project...
I had asked my friend, he gave the following attachment to me.
It can just open, but all of the special functions like PixelMaster & GIF recording are all broken.
I guess it may be related to hardware issues...

Hardware issue…
My Xperia SP has an 8MP rear camera,
but I guess it lacks of something like an image processing chip.
Port ver lolipop thank bro

Oh man, I would love to be able to get the PixelMaster app back on my Zenfone 2 (I'm running Cyanogenmod 12). The default Google camera sucks horribly compared to the stock ASUS camera app.
Has there been any more work on this project? I'm gonna read that guide myself and work on it, but I guess I'd have to put the stock ROM back on my phone first.

If you install the apk on the zf2 with cm12 it works. Only issue I've found is the depth of field doesn't work

Oh, really? That's kinda nice, although yeah the depth-of-field working would sure be nice. I'll have to try it out tonight. I can just use the .apk from the OP, correct?
Well I tried installing that .apk from the OP. Had to allow installation from unknown sources first, then after hitting Install, it asked me to give Google permission to send data and whatever else. Regardless if I select Accept or Decline, I always get an "App not installed" message.
Damnit, I was looking forward to using it! I think I'm gonna try stripping it from the stock ROM myself.

Alrighty, thanks. I actually was searching for PixelMaster .apk this weekend but didn't have much luck besides seeing a ton of frickin spam sites masking as legit .apk download sites. I'll do another search tonight.
Hopefully I can get the .apk to install. It sure would be nice to have the depth-of-field working, but after skimming through that thread linked earlier (How to Port OEM Apps to Your Current ROM) there's no way I can follow that. It's nice the guy put together a guide, but being unfamiliar with this stuff I need to follow something written in clear English.
I guess the ASUS Camera app was easier to find than I thought. The first time I tried it was nothing but spam site after spam site. Maybe it was Bing's fault, haha.
But I got version 2.0.0.150805_5 and it installed with no problem and works great. Thanks for your help, ejames2001, I appreciate it.
