If I unlock the vibrant, and use it in israel, will the data connection, 3g, work properly? Does it work ing europe?
I saw different answers for it, not clear if out will work or not. Well appreciate if someone will shed light on that.

It works for me. I'm not on Tmo but try it on Wi-Fi and see if it works that way. If it does but not on mobile connection then it could be tmo

I can confirm it works on both 3g 4g and wifi....crystal clear image on my drive to work today, on 3g it has alot of artifacts and can be sometimes slow as far as movements go but otherwise its fast and clear.
Can anyone get it to work on AT&T over 4G?? It tells me that it can only do it over wifi, sure this can be fixed by flashing something?

I was wondering that too. I think ATT blocked it somehow. I used to be able to do it on my Verizon thunderbolt.
is this any different then google+ hangouts?
Hey guys,
I'm kind of new to android stuff, so bear with me .
About a week back I bought this Motorola Photon 4g for Sprint off craigslist and used the kddi radii trick to make it work on GSM networks, namely T-Mobile. Right now imeon the hybrid 2.3.5 rom, but even when I was in the stock sprint rom, the carrier name randomly shows up as T-Mobil instead of T-Mobile. Is there any way to fix this other than spoofing the carrier name? Thanks for the help!
From what I know, the name is stored in SIM card, try to replace it with carrier.
Thanks, I'll try that. I'm actually planning on doing that soon anyway . The strange thing is it sometimes shows the full name T-Mobile, I'm still trying to figure that out haha

My phone does this too, I'm not sure why. To me it seems like it says 'T-Mobil' when signal is pretty weak, but i have overall weak signal in my apartment so it could just be me making a bad guess.

i also have the same thing, but i haven't noticed it till you have mention it.
i guess it belongs to 2G/3G. coz when you are having connected to 2G it tells you T-mobil
while when you are connected to 3G it tells you T-mobile.

Tmobiles 4g is HSPA+ which is technically 3g

You guys must be in the refarm area cause the 3g frequencies are the same as the iPhone's. I'm still waiting on that . Btw I got a new SIM and it hasn't said T-mobil yet so maybe it's just a certain kind of sim that does it?

You won't benefit from the 4G connectivity unless the network/carrier has support for it. Everything else (phone calls, 3G, 2G, etc) will work.
I have a trip to Europe coming up and I'm making plans to stay in touch with my office. I'm thinking of picking up a Photon and using a local SIM when I get to France.
I know it mostly depends of the network, but what kind of GSM data speeds could I expect on this phone?
I'm mainly interested in tethering it to my laptop.

It's ok for mobile browsing. I didn't try tethering in Scotland, but from what I saw on the phone, I would only use with a laptop as a last resort. Light e-mail is ok, but you'll be waiting a long time if you've got one of those co-workers who likes to send that 30MB presentation on his reply-all response.
And, of course, 4G is out of the question while over there. Good luck.
ok so I have done alot of research regarding this and gotten alot of different answers. I am trading my att unlocked s3 tomrrow for a unlocked verizon s4. pretty much I just want confirmation that it will work on cincinnati bell which is a gsm provider. I dont care if data works bc I dont have data I use wifi. I just need confirmatio that talk, text and wifi will work. do I have to root it or ne thing. im not new to the game so I know how to root and everything. I just didnt know if they came factory unlocked like the droid dna and I can just pop in my sim and away I go lol. again I dont care about data. thanks for ur answers in advanced!!
