Hello everyone!
I was wondering what are the best pictures/wallpapers to put in our Home Screen?
I just tried some but the final result was always disappointing...
Can you give me some pictures and tipos to make a good homescreen only by changing images...
Thank's!
If you're using the default S.E. homescreen, then using a PC, resize/crop your images to exactly 480x320 then make sure you don't crop the image further when setting it as wallpaper on the phone (i.e. make sure the handles are dragged out all the way
Also, saving as PNG is often nicer, as you won't get any compression artifacts, that can make the image look ugly on the phone
Here are a couple of wallpapers I've resized to the right format
You can check out these wallpapers, they are the correct size:

Nice collection
Another trick I learnt from a different blog to get the right sizes is get images in the size of 960 x 854
Check out this blog post and a few wallpapers there too . . . . For later searches simply go to Mobile9 or DroidForums for wallpapers in the 960 x 854 size

I'd be interested in the answer to your question, but if you want some good wallpaper while you are waiting, make sure you are searching for qHD wallpapers for other qHD phones, such as the Atrix.
Alternately, you can search for a specific size image with google image search online. Standard is twice the width, by the height of your screen.
qHD = 540x960
Wallpaper = 1080x960
Good luck making your own.
What I do is take an image that has a higher pixel size than what our screen has and crop it to 1080 x 960. The thing is, it doesn't get as sharp as I'd like. I feel like it should be super sharp. Icons are super sharp, why not the wallpaper, ya know. Does it have something to do with the screen itself?
Using the size parameters mentioned in the previous posts you can use photoshop or gimp (free!) and create your own custom wallpapers.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
I noticed when viewing an image in the gallery and zooming it in to the size of the screen the picture is crystal clear, but when you set it as a wallpaper it gets a little pixelated so we know its not the hardware or picture itself. Could someone explain this, maybe the software could be tweaked? Try it out, the attached picture is a good example but it does it with all pictures.
Problem solved
What happens is that android compresses the pictures too much when setting them, causing distortion. Using an app called "Wallpaper Set And Save" sets the wallpaper and makes it crystal clear!
the screen size of the mini pro is 320x480 and when I download a wallpaper (of the same size) and look at it in with the gallery app, it fits my screen exactly. but when I then want to set it as my wallpaper with gallery, apparently I can only use a part, at maximum half of it as max size? how come? how can I get wallpapers to be properly displayed at their full screen size?
Wallpapers need to be wide enough to cover 3 homescreens - due to the scrolling. It does not scroll more than 3 screens regardless of actual # of homescreens on your phone.
Therefore your wallpaper should be 960 x 480 for full coverage (3 x 320 by 480). Took me a while to work that out myself
thanks for letting me know
but then I wonder why people upload so many wallpapers with just the size for 1 screen?
edit: now Ive read that the best size is actually supposed to be 640x480, because apparently it doesnt move that far when scrolling

Yes, the full scale H x V dimensions for Sony Tablet S ICS wallpaper images is 1920 x 1280 pixels, but the images must be cropped if they are to be displayed correctly.
Sony explains how to select a wallpaper image in ICS HERE. To the best of my knowledge, Sony has not yet released a video showing how to crop an image in ICS, however, they do show how to crop an image in HC in this VIDEO located at YouTube's web site. Cropping a wallpaper image in ICS is done pretty much the same way as it was in HC.
I provided a wallpaper image template and explained the pixel dimensions and viewable areas of wallpaper images HERE. I hope you find the template and information useful.
I make my own wallpaper images using an image editing program on my PC then copy them to my tablet into a folder I created and named /sdcard/Pictures/Wallpapers. Any images stored in the tablet's /sdcard/Pictures folder and its subfolders can be previewed and chosen via the "Gallery" selection on the "Choose wallpaper from" pop-up that appears whenever you long-press on any blank area near the center of the tablet's screen. You can also get to the "Gallery" selection via Settings > Display > Wallpaper.
Of course, you could always download and install wallpaper apps, but most of them are advertisement based and they never provided the control you can have by making your own wallpaper images and cropping them yourself.
I hope you find my reply helpful.

I also have installed the Simple Image Wallpaper app that your link leads to. It is actually a free, open source, non-advertisement based Live Wallpaper app. It works well, IMHO. One nice feature of the app is it allows for using different images for landscape and portrait mode.
Simple Image Wallpaper works best with images whose pixel resolution is the same as the screen of the telephone or tablet the app is installed on. For the Sony Tablet S in landscape mode, images that are 1280 x 752 pixels work best. In portrait mode, images that are 800 x 1232 pixels work best.
If the image is not 1280 x 752 or 800 x 1232 pixels, Simple Image Wallpaper will rotate the image if necessary for best fit, then stretch or shrink the image, and then crop the image until it fits the tablet's screen. This will sometimes cause parts of the image to be unviewable or to be displayed in a mode opposite to the intended landscape or portrait mode. Still, it's a great app.
Had expected lag what with it being a live wallpaper, but none at all, fantastic!

Sorry to give this thread one hell of a bump but Simple Image Wallpaper just saved my sanity! Thanks, the word needs to be spread about this. I tried all the other "apps" and I can't get an image to display correctly in landscape mode to save my life. I'm using this on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It took me a minute to find it though under "wallpaper>live wallpaper" because it does not appear in my app drawer.
Thanks again! :good:
Ive been trying to find out what resolution the android wallpapers are for the nexus 10.
I rooted mine today and found out where the wallpapers are located and the resolution is 3966 x 2560
Just thought id post for anyone looking for wallpapers or making there own
Strange resolution. Seems like we might be able to get even more detail out of the wallpaper with a greater resolution? I'd recommend taking a look at websites with wallpapers designed for multiple monitors to get something that large.

Resolution seems fine.
Remember, that when you set up the wallpaper, you only use the part of the image - you use the full height of it - 2560 - for portrait, and then for landscape, you use 2560 + something for scrolling. And remember, that this 2560+something isnt the full width of an image, so 4k x 2.6k seems about right.
(and i dont like that they dont allow to use full image for landscape and forces to use middle part of it....
and where i can find wallpapers with 3966 x 2560 resolution^^

Wallpaper wizardrii has a new update coming with 2560 resolution working. No cropping whatsoever on full resolution photos. Looks amazing. He'll update soon after I finish testing beta.
You wont really find any wallpapers with that resolution, go for larger resolutions that are more common like 5120 by 3200
here are some that should look good on the screen: http://wallpaperswide.com/5120x3200-wallpapers-r.html
thx for the answers. another question, does the stock android dont support different wallpaper on home and lockscreen? thx
I've found 2400x1600 fit perfectly, I'm writing an app to set wallpapers on N10, from what I've seen so far, it's setting them perfectly.

Where are they located?
The wallpaper are located in /system/apps then go to the launcher app and extracted it to wherever you want, then go to location where you extracted it /res/drawable-sw720dp-nodpi and the wallpapers should be there.
can you please pump the stock wallpaper out? i really like them but i flashed into PA rom..
+1 please post stock collection here . i missed them after paranoid firmware:'(

So I want to experiment with creating looping gifs/videos as live wallpapers with my Pixel 6. I see that the native screen res is 2400x1080 is that the size I should render the video at as well or are live wallpapers lower resoloution and scaled up?
Using smaller sizes and upscaling will save space but the upscaling will soften the image. I would use the screen's actual resolution if possible. To be certain however you should try to extract the wallpapers from the system framework (framework-res apk) and look at them in an image viewer. You'll get the dimensions of the wallpaper that way.
