I would like to ask to community to help out in a request to a developer.
Some of you many not know that the 3d Gallery app on our phones is NOT present in all 2.1+ android devices. While the Gallery itself maybe present access to Picasa is missing in some Sense based roms.
There is a fix for this being developed and is available in the market under the name, 3D Gallery. Here is where I would like you help.
At present the dev is doing nothing more then trying to make a clone of the gallery. He has just added Picasa access, but you will need to give the app your log-in details. This is not something that many users are willing to do as Picasa generally speaking is tied to the users main account.
What I would like to see is the dev give access to Picasa public galleries through username alone along with the ability for full access if both user and pass are given. Granted you will not be able to upload if user and pass are not given, but thats not really a big deal.
I think the one thing Google overlooked with the 3d Gallery was the ability to view albums you mark as favorites in your account. This app has the ability to give us this function, we just need to let the dev know that we want it.
This would be the PERFECT way to share wallpaper with each other, without the need to actually take up any storage on the phone itself.
I know Im not the only one that wants this, so please help out.
Send a copy of the following petition to the devs email address.
Email: support at flikie dot com
Copy petition below
I fully support the petition to add access to selected Picasa public albums inside of your 3D Gallery app. Access to said galleries should be entered through username alone and/or full web address.
Adding the ability to view public galleries gives us the perfect method to share wallpaper in a way that does not require using the phones storage.
Thank you for considering our request.

So was I wrong? Does no one really care about this?
I have tried all of the gallery apps with access to Picasa and they all have drawbacks, the main one being no ability to crop the image when setting as wallpaper.
Let me know Im not alone on this.
Why would you expect anyone here to care when then app they want came included on our phones?

Seriously? Did you bother to read my post past the first sentence?
The point is to add Picasa public folder browsing to the gallery. There are NO phones that come with this feature built into the Android 3d Gallery. There is little chance that we will see Google add this feature anytime in the near future. Since the dev I mentioned above is building a clone of the Android 3d Gallery there IS a good chance we can get HIM to add this feature.
I expect people at this forum to participate and not just take.

I hope the title makes sense? I currently use the task list use LorSoft
Edit: So sick of this 8 post limit cannot post outside URLs business - is there exceptions for longtime lurkers
And it is great and it handles things well for the moment, but there are some things missing that I feel need addressing. Like for one the pull down notifications are just not up to scratch for a productivity tool. Meaning they are too easily forgotten about or cleared in amoungst the jargon of other notifications. I need toast and a persistent toast notification that won't clear unless say I check completed or something like that? The icons in this app, sorry to the developer are dismal, outdated and sorry but they are just plain crapola. Theres no capacity to change the theming of this app or icons for that matter. I was going to pull it appart and re-engineer it for those reasons alone just for my own satisfaction (not to re-distribute or "steel" the developers work)…but then I realised there are other features I would like to incorporate into the design/functionality that surpass what this app is.
What I would really like is a way of bringing this info "synch" to iCalendar (To-Do isn't really a "meetings" schedule or check in check out "availability" type app though?) or a tasklist XML within Gmail for users; enabling users to bring that information in as a feed for an iGoogle Gadget and if possible (even though it is retired now) bring a Gadget into Google Desktop.
I dare say my productivity would be improved with these functions. So far the LorSoft Tasklist App Widget is THE most used application onmy Android phone.
If anyone can recommend alternatives to what I am using that will fill the gaps (on the Android side of things at least) and/or the other side of things iCalendar/Gmail side of things and I can try and figure out how to feed the info into the other tools/gadgets for desktop iGoogle later.
Watching the Ice Cream Sandwich live presentation today was great seeing the calendar and its Gmail integration and sharing capability but it doesn't fullfill the task list or "TO-DO" type function that I need. Its great for visualisation…..but as you can possible sense by now opening the app or seeing what I need to do is the major issue LOL. I need toast…like IN YOUR FACE!
Any developers wana jump on board and brain storm with me on this feel free. I think uptake would be ginormous after seeing comments from Gadget requesters on Google already
I think I may have solved my own issue whilst trying to help someone else out?
Will see how it goes?

which I think is great. The app I'm designing involves storing photos and data about them. Is there a good way to back this up? I could sync with a webservice I could write/host, but then I'm opening myself up to potentially large bandwidth/storage charges.
I considered using drop box or something, but that would require my non tech savvy users to sign up. Is there any easy way to integrate the google cloud service (as my users will of course have a google account)? What do people normally do when they want to meet this design principle?
Many thanks

I believe there is an api for backing up user data to Google drive and since users will have a Google account they automatically have Google drive (Your app will have to request permissions to access users Google account I believe). This would be the easiest way to implement things as the drive api is a native part of Android, and you don't have to worry about bandwidth and hosting storage. In the past people have hosted there own storage for users to used and then usually tie this to an account users have to create. Overall, like I said I'd look into using the Google drive api.

Thanks very much. A bit of an oversight on my part so I'll have a look through the API and see what it offers.
I do intend to charge a subscription for my app/service ultimately, but I think I need to make storage space the users problem to save myself sleepless nights.
I'll investigate and post back here what I find. If anyone can give me a link to an article on this I'd appreciate it.
Thanks

Here is the official Google documentation on using the Google Drive Api:
https://developers.google.com/drive/
Check out this article on network storage and android:
http://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/data-storage.html#netw
As well as this article on using the backup api and cloud sync:
http://developer.android.com/training/cloudsync/index.html
Also since you talked about eventually charging a subscription fee here is the official android developer documentation on that as well:
http://developer.android.com/guide/google/play/billing/billing_subscriptions.html
Wonderful, thank you very much indeed! I will give those a good read over when I get chance and let you know how I get on. It seems this could definitely be the answer, saving me money concerns and allowing my app to be multi user and backed up.
What I need to do is get my head around how I will use the cloud storage to allow my app to be multi user. Potentially I can make my database file based, and sync between two devices that way. My only trouble is when both devices are editing the same file / working on the same thing. I want the app to work offline, as I don't want connection issues to affect its usage.
Hmmm, I'll give it some thought.
Thanks again!
Hi everyone
Just wanted to ask, what are your must have apps?
I need some ideas for new apps. The only apps (except the XKCD viewer) I could think of are listed in the core apps and I don't feel like joining these projects just yet.
So if you have any ideas or if you know some Android or iOS apps which could be ported leave a comment.
1. An IM client like Empathy
2. A Wallbase application/or anything that fetches nice HD wallpapers.
3. An application to watch anime
I had a similar question earlier, you might be able to mine something from those that answered
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2105374
The main app most people wanted was What's App, but I saw that some one else has been developing a client for it.

It is my firm belief that we should have an APP INSTALL client that seamlessly installs apps FIRST! Then let the DEVS roll out the suggestions. What's the format anyway? not APK I would guess. I think a nice APK converter would work nicely then.

- What the heck is an APK? (That's only for Android and has nothing todo with linux, yes I said it android has nothing todo with linux )
- There are many ways to install an app.
-> you can install a .deb file
-> add a ppa our use the official repos and install via consol
-> build the binarys from source....
Currently someone is working on an "app store" but this is not a priority since ubuntu touch is still in pre alpha.
P.S. I am a DEV and I need some Ideas that's why I started the thread.
Some way to access Pandora One. I listen to some 300 hours a month, so it's definitely a requirement, not a 'want'.

We are deeply, deeply sorry to say that due to licensing constraints, we can no longer allow access to Pandora for listeners located outside of the U.S., Australia and New Zealand. We will continue to work diligently to realize the vision of a truly global Pandora, but for the time being we are required to restrict its use. We are very sad to have to do this, but there is no other alternative. ....

Hope you'll find some dev's located in the us that can help you with that.
I'm personally worried about not having an app to track and control my phone in the event it's lost or stolen. An Ubuntu touch UI for Prey or something to that effect would be awesome.

Like the idea so far!!! i had something like this on Windows Mobile....I used to use it to text and view my phone without having to pick it up.
Question: Do you have to have the full version in order to text? That's what I wanted to try before I make a purchase.
Can you add "Background task" so i can have this on while doing other tasks on my phone?
Thanks.

Dear barrychon,
Thank you for your useful feedback.
Actually the trial version is a quite similar to the full version with limitation with number of photos and contacts, please try the trial before purchasing.
Regarding the text from PC, yes you can send text messages, emails, make phone calls from PC using GoToMyPhone, however, you have to confirm the action from your phone, this is a security concern from Microsoft API.
Regarding the background task, even if the application works in background you can't reach it via socket, the background apps run every amount of time, API does not allow Background apps as service.
Please vote for existing ideas or create your own idea on: http://gotomyphone.uservoice.com/forums/227942-general

Concerning commercial services, I really appreciate your offer, but I'm busy with too many projects including GoToMyPhone and MetroAirServer (light IIS over WP8), I can't provide commercial services.
For your metro-style page, you may check the open source section in GoToMyPhone about page, and please refer to: http://aozora.github.io/bootmetro/ a modified theme for Bootstrap (twitter bootstrap) it may help with your design.

Please read the XDA forum rules regarding posting apps, and make sure you're in compliance with them. The key component is that you're not allowed to use this board as advertising for a paid app, although you're welcome to provide a way to get it for free here and then link to a paid version (not a paid *upgrade*; that's not the same thing) as a sort of "feel free to donate by buying the app from the store" kind of thing.
I haven't tried the app yet, so I don't know how severe the trial restrictions are (something you should be specific about, by the way) but I'm tired of seeing links to paid third-party apps in the forum. Time was, this board was for finding beta testers and publishing links that anybody could use (often to the XAP files themselves; this is a developer community and most of us probably have dev-unlocked phones).
Sorry

I'm so sorry if I didn't follow the forum rules, I know it is not an excuse, but I found a lots of free trial apps with commercial edition, and that's why I created this thread, and as I said, It is not an excuse.
Please feel free to take any action regarding this post if you think it is not following the rules.

Eh, I'm not a moderator or anything, I just want to make sure they don't have to get involved. Some of the apps, where the trial is "get the app for free, and if you want to donate/thank us, buy it!", are not a problem at all; it's mostly a matter of making sure people can get the app for free if you want to post it here. There's nothing wrong with asking for donations or anything, it's just not OK to advertise commercial stuff unless it's related to the site.

The devs have stated, in other threads, that they do not store your personal data. They use either your Facebook or Google account to verify that you are who you say you are in order to have access to the servers to download the themes. It's to prevent people from having spamming their servers which they provide to us for the themes. This is much easier than having to register ANOTHER account and password. Rather, use the Google or Facebook account as a way to authenticate you to have access to their servers.
They do NOT store your personal information on their servers nor store it nor send/sell it out to other parties. It's authentication and that's it. Period. No malice is being done to you or your information.
Heck, just having a smartphone alone is putting more PI out there than this app would.
And all those permissions it needs access to? You do realize that the majority of the stock apps you have loaded already have access to one or more of those services? Since Themer acts as a one-stop-shop for all those different apps (notifications from text messages, email read count, weather (which needs GPS), etc), and gives you access to different widgets to provide that information, then yes, it does need access to a lot of the services within Android. But, no one complains that Gmail needs access to that and your contacts, or that the weather app needs access to GPS info, etc. But, when they see one app have all that permission, they freak without actually researching.
Paranoia sure does run rampant in these parts!

Hi,
As mentioned above, it's for security reasons on our side. We'll soon be implementing Facebook's 'anonymous login' feature.
I haven't used Themer for few months because of poor performance with my Optimus 2x(512 mb RAM), however this thing with Google account seems to be a much bigger problem than the slow performance. I simply do not want Google servers messing around my phone, I don't use sync or Play store. Is there a chance for Themer team to reconsider this decision?
Troll thread cleaned and now will close.
Many ways to be respectful...the opposite ways kind of jump out at us moderators.
