Anyway to fix ringer ascending issue? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Basically when I get a call, my ringtone starts quietly, and quickly increases the volume to max. (max being whatever you set as your ring volume.)
Does this happen on all of our phones? This was not an issue with my G1 AFAIRemember.
Thanks guys!

Its not a bug, its a feature. However I do agree there needs to be toggle options for a lot of little things on this phone, ie: battery notifications.
So as of right now, no. We'll just have to hope Samsung throws a lot of changes into their Froyo update...

All Samsung phones at least 4 which I had this feature so don't worry !

How exactly is this an issue ???? this is the 3rd or 4th thread I seen about this feature.... please explain .,.,,.,.,.,

I did search before I posted, I just did not see any relevant threads.
This is an issue because I personally dislike having this "feature". It was not a problem on my G1, and almost every other phone that I've used has it as a ringer option.
I checked all the service menu's hoping to find something relevant, to no avail lol.
Here's hoping CM fixes this =)

It is, for the most part a Samsung Thing. On all of the older samsung phones, The Ringer speaker was also the Ear piece Speaker. As well as the Speaker phone speaker.
That was done so when you put the phone to your ear and say an incoming call beats your out going call (Happens to me sometimes) The ringer does not damage your hearing.

the only work around for this so far is just to edit the ringtone and insert a few seconds of silence (2-3) in the beginning and then have the ringtone play out normally

Thanks for the info guys. I will try adding a few seconds of extra sound to the front of my ringtones for now.
Maybe this will be fixed with a proper CyanMod lol

I guess that gets rid of the fade-in, but it makes even less sense than before. Not really a practical solution to anything (not trying to flame). You're just going from your ringtone fading in, to not even hearing your phone ring for a few seconds.
I mean unless you like the first 2 seconds of your ringtone THAT much.

That's an annoying feature regardless.

Incoming call rings VERY LATE!! First the trackball flashes three times.

Hi! Sometimes, when I get a call, first my trackball starts to flash some times and VERY LATE (after about three flashes), my HTC Hero starts to ring.
I once had a program, which read out loud the name of the caller. I removed it and after that time, the ring came very fast for a while but now the problem starts again and I do not have this program installed. What can I do to solve this problem?
Just that you know, I have root and can see every file in my mobile, if there is a special logfile or something... But before I analyze my problem in the files with root, I ask you if there maybe is a very easy solution. How for example can I find out very easily, what my mobile does, while I recive a call? And if you want to know, I have about 200 Apps installed.
Thank you for your help!!
Martin
I have this issue but its mostly when i'm using a memory heavy app or loads of things running in the background. i now use task killer to kill all of the unnecessary programs that are running in the background & for the most part it works tip top. anybody else finding this too?
Yep, I have this - it's incredibly annoying. It's a phone after all and it seems to ignore that fact. I don't have many apps installed and don't tend to have much running in the background either.
Dave
When I first had this problem I got approximately 5 seconds of ringtone to answer (due to the lag in ringtone starting). Although it in no way fixes the problem, you can aid the situation by extending the delay before your answerphone kicks in by phoning your network.
same for me here, unfortunately this is also when not having ANY application running in background (just after phone startup).. takes at least lets say 4-5 secs until da mp3 is played, thats really sucking
Try not using mp3 as ringtone. Use the original HTC ones. The ringtone delay will decrease considerably
I am sorry but that's not a proper solution, has anyone reported that to HTC ?

I do use the originals - it doesn't help
what bout converting my mp3 filez to wav format?
OF COURSE i mean just converting da ringtone mp3 ;-)
I am using the MoDaCo leaked ROM (HTC Generic 2.73.405.5) and the response to incoming calls is much quicker, with the ringing starting shortly after the first flash of the trackball so I guess that you will get an improvement once HTC release the update and you install it.
J
I'm also using the Modaco 2.2 ROM and I've just tried calling my phone from a landline. I heard 4 rings in the landline receiver before my phone did anything with the trackball or the ringtone. However, less than a second after the track ball started flashing my MP3 ringtone started playing. 4 rings is quite a long time, at least 5-6 seconds, surely that can't be normal, can it?
That's not good no.
How about an experiment ... reboot your phone, give it a minute after booting to finish its initialisation stuff then try ringing again. Better or the same?
<apologies for double post>
Apparently this has been resolved on the forthcoming Donut release.
Cyanogen reports this as now working correctly in the new builds he is making on the G1 and Magic using some of the newer Donut code.

mute button pressing by accident

Hi all
I have got a new sony x10 mini pro, and have an odd issue that seems a design floor.
When on a call my ear constantly presses the mute button and mutes people.
any one know of a way to remove the mute button on the interface or another app that can be used for in call functions.
any advice would be much apreiciated.
thank you
Mat
Place rthe phone closer to the ear so that the proximity sensor disables rthe screen

i have d same issue n keep muting calls
I have posted the same issue here
I use hands free but it is still easy to press with the side of your hand if you are holding the phone...
I notice on my phone the touch still works outside the screen border. and it sometimes goes on speaker or mute

Really need a fix for this. Mostly the mute button is the problem, but i have had the loudspeaker activated a few times too.

This is really annoying.

I really nead a solution for this.
I was also annoyed with this, so I made an app that launches it self after accepting the call to avoid the issue. The app can be found at my site on paxanima DOT net (can't post URLs yet, apparently)
I just made it, so not too much real life testing, but seems to do the trick.

Good work on that, thats a start.
But can someone just remove the goddamn mute button? UHHH!
It's too complicated for me. I think i installed like 4-5 apps but still couldnt get to the point where you can get the apk from the phone.
True, this is very annoying. SE has received plenty of complaints so I hope they're working on a solution. I am wondering if installing any of the new custom roms would sort out the issue for me since waiting for SE updates is a nightmare.
My problems started when I first updated to 2.1 where it happened in more than half of calls and got better with the last update and now happens only occasionally.
i never had that problem but i think that costum rom will help for these prob.
sory for bad english
Yeah, you have to be careful. Hold your phone from the back to avoid touching the front sides and slowly approach it to your head (the proximity sensor is at the top left of the phone). I'm pretty sure I look like a retard while doing so but hey, better than having the person on the other end saying "hello? is there anybody here? hello?".
Same here
This issue has also been annoying me from the beginning, and on every release of the SE standard ROMS. I don't understand why some people have the issue and others don't. Maybe it has something to do with the shape of one's ears??
No seriously, when i do some tests, like calling to my voicemail and then holding the phone in my hand, on some occasions the phone goes black after covering the proximity sensor with my finger, and sometimes the phone does not react at all when covering the sensor. So maybe some processes that are running prevent the proximity sensor from working correctly.
Would it be possible to adjust the semcphone.apk to have no mute button at all? I never use this option anyway.
Or is it only possible to change the shape and color of the icons/images.
As far as I know. When ever you made a call or answering call, the screen will turn off, right after you place the phone on your ear... So there's should be no pproblem answering or making call and suddenly pressed the mute button with own ear. Im using the same phone, and making almost 20 to 30 calls a day. And never even once encounter the problem as stated.

I get this problem once in awhile too. I have to bring the phone to my ear slowly.
can't we just replace the dailer APK with something from HTC or something?
I also hate the current contact list, theres no smart search.
Yes you can. But it has to be ported with some mod for it to work.

[Q] Ringtone volume keeps turning down

Hey guys, I'm having this issue with my stock Razr Maxx, where the ringtone volume turns down (close to silent) and I don't even know it unless I receive a call and there isn't any noise around (or else I totally miss the call).
I understand this is probably a well known bug, but I would just like to know if there's anything triggering it, so I know how to avoid this. I'm using a bluetooth headset every day, at work, but I haven't figured out a pattern yet, or even if the bluetooth headset is causing this.
Help? Please?

Looks like your bluetooth headset may be changing the volume without your consent.
Try to plug it off at least for a day and see if the problem happens
It looks like it wasn't the bluetooth headset.
During the weekend I haven't used it and this morning the volume was all the way down...
I have disabled the 'increasing volume' setting from my alarm and see if that helps, as I realized I always snooze or stop the alarm while it's still barely audible.
=P
I'm used to have three different alarms. I don't like snooze...i prefer to sleep more ten minutes and have a different alarm. Since i'm sleepy when i look the alarm i tend to cancel it instead of snooze also
Some time ago i had a similar problem with my XT910. After taking it to a authorized local service my volume up key wasn't working anymore ; they fixed it somehow.
Why don't you try to install an custom rom or reflash your actual rom ? It would tell us if your problem is hardware or software (if the problem persists with another rom surely its a hardware thing - i don't think kernel is related to this).
I will be flashing the official JB when it comes out, hopefully soon. I've got the "MERetail.en.06" software version now and I understand this is the Middle East version, which will not get the JB OTA update, so I will have to flash another ROM anyway. I'm willing to wait for it to come out first.

Notification Volume Too Low

Is it just me or are the notifications all too quiet? the main default alert as well as individual app notifications all seem way too quiet, I can hardly hear them. I've even just factory reset it and it's still the same, anybody got any advice? please?
May be obvious but have you tried turning the notification volume up?
Trust me, I have checked, rechecked, triple checked and even factory reset the phone 3 times all with the same result. The sounds sound fine while selecting them in the respective app settings but as soon as the notification is triggered it's like the speakers are covered with cotton wool or something. But in answer to your question yes, all sliders are at their maximum.
Thanks for replying though
My provider (Hutchison 3G) have said over Twitter to return it and get a replacement, which I will do tomorrow if I can't find a solution. At least that way it'll rule out a hardware fault.
My notification is also to.quiet.
Music and videos and notification sounds on zedge for example are loud it as soon as I choose to use them for a notification sound it's very low. Certainly a software bug not hardware.
Thank you, I really thought I was going doolally... I'll mention it to the provider tomorrow when I get advice

Probably a bit naff quoting myself but hey-ho...
Returned the device, and the new one arrived today, still the same problem, for example select a notification tone for Whatsapp and it's quiet-ish but okay (i'm quite deaf so need a louder than normal notification) then when someone sends a message its super quiet and sort of muffled. I had every intention at some point to root and de-brand it but thought the stock rom was the probelm, so after many hours I finally flashed ARC5, flashed TWRP and rooted with SuperSU ( that lot was a mission on its own) but I've still got VERY quiet notifications...
Very Very annoying.
Anyone developing a volume mod?

Glad we not on our own and a replacement has been tried with no such look.
Certainly a problem Samsung should became to fix quickly if there are aware of it.....
i checked again the same sound is low on viber and in telegram and very high in whatsapp

Video of issue where the same sound on whatsapp is high and on telegram is low, and the same issue with all sounds and many apps.
Do the notification sounds play through a bluetooth speaker if you have one connected? Maybe I could hear them on the other side of the house if I used a bluetooth speaker with the volume cranked up when I leave the phone charging .
Another silly idea: There are tasker plugins available to make app notifications into events that tasker can respond to. If someone already has tasker installed, you could try intercepting the notification then playing the sound you want as a music clip so it would play at "normal" volume. I've never taken the time to learn how the heck to use tasker, but now I'm tempted.

I am having the same issue. I keep missing text messages due to the quietness, even if I'm sitting next to it, within 3 feet.
Any thing discovered as of yet?
Found this thread Googling for a fix for the same problem, G960F
Notification only plays through bottom speaker, and is much quieter than the original sound I downloaded from Zedge and muffled too, all stock notification sounds are equally low
I see the Samsung forums are full of people complaining about the same thing, hopefully Samsung does something about it, quite annoying and constantly missing messages and whatsapp notifications
I have no issues... Verizon.. snapdragon model...I think it's an Android Oreo issue though..my pixel XL did that. But the volume increased whenever the phone was in my pocket...same with the Galaxy S9+..but it's louder than my pixel

Noticed today that ringtones are quieter when someone calls, than they are from the ringtone selection screen
Tweeted to Samsung about it, who very quickly asked me to DM them instead of publicly tweeting about it, so I did, and that was nearly two weeks ago, no reply

Yes I've noticed that too - I think it's the top speaker that's quieter.
Hmm strange issue not present on my Verizon models on the s9 and s9+ I wonder if the software has different settings on how the volume works i know my volume mod on the s7 and s7 edge were different for all models so I'm guessing it's a software issue
Any solution/mod?

Question Speaker issue since March update

Since the March update, I have been having an issue with the speaker on the phone. When I try to use it in speakerphone mode on a call, or to listen to a voicemail - nothing. No sound. When this is happening, I also don't get any ring tone. Or, when playing Pandora, all the sound comes through the phone speaker on the top, rather than the exterior speakers on the bottom. I've tried toggling through the various sound modes - mute, vibrate and on - and it makes no difference. This is an intermittent issue, for which I have been unable to identify what sequence triggers it on or off. I have already Reset to Factory [twice] in my attempts to resolve this. I contacted Google, and they had me take it to a local UBreakIFix. They had it for 3 days and couldn't repro my issue. They checked out my phone and told me it was in pristine condition. Has anyone else experienced this; have any other suggestions for what to do?

I have not experienced anything like it. It would not surprise me if you have an actual hardware issue and need google to replace it for you

Snow_ball, I don't think this is a hardware issue because: At the same time that my bottom speakers don't work for speakerphone or ring tone, I will still get notification tones for things like email and Facebook. I was on a call today using speakerphone, and mid-call the speaker stopped working. I switched off speakerphone and completed that call. I made another call and switched on speakerphone, and it started right up.
