Hi, I just got my Samsung Fascinate today, and I was looking forward to rooting it. It's my first Android device, and I've only used dumbphones until today. I've seen the rooting threads yet still have no clue how to root my phone.
Can anyone please take me step by step (starting with what apps I would need, if any) in order to root my phone successfully? Thank you very much!
i dont post much over here at xda but since iv had my d2 and now gal s iv been here much more so please dont think im a super noob (still a noob) but you really should just play with you STOCK phone for a one or two weeks and get to know it before u go and root it and the endless fun that comes after. i say this more or so because your coming from a "dumb phone" you really should get to know android and all of its fun ins and outs. enjoy your new phone and ur new addiction..prob should have tried heroin first
i've played with the captivate quite a bit, and i just want to root my phone so i can get rid of bing and stuff

Well, let the big kids figure out how to remove Bing and make some tools that will make it easier for you to root, give it a week or so and we will have them

The first links for the drivers aren't working!!
edit:
once i started doing adb push su /sdcard/su, it says "failed to copy 'su' to '/sdcard/su': Permission denied."
i'm so lost.
Someone Else posted a link to a guide with a small update to it's instructions,
The Post is in the same forum as this one topic name is Rooted, page 3, user eleazar123 posted it..
I would just drop a link to it, but Apparently i am not verified and can not post any links :-(

i suggest you take your time, read and understand before flashing.
If you are in a rush, you will make mistakes.
rooting or any other major changes requires reading and understanding before flashing.

Hello John and Merry Christmas bro,
In order to root your phone, follow the instructions as described here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhSSmdqAXRM&feature=player_embedded
After rooting and installing clockworkmodrecovery (CWM) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1781899
you can run ROM Cleaner script which will remove all the bloatware of your choice.Read the OP(originalpost) and follow the instructions

Let me know if I helped and if you want anything else.
Hello everybody! Just got a Galaxy S4 from Verizon with the evil 4.3 update & I want to root the heck out of it, but when I follow all the instructions to the letter, absolutely NOTHING works...no SuperSU, no terminal commands, nothing...this is very tedious and rage inducing.and I also would like to know if it's possible to downgrade back to 4.2. Really not liking 4.3...stupid Knox...
ANY help put into layman's terms would be greatly appreciated.

No, of course it's not possible to downgrade. Please learn what you're doing before you brick your phone.
Start here.
After that, post DETAILS about what you tried and why it didn't work. You didn't tell us what model phone you have, what build it's on, what you tried to use to root it, what you observed, etc. How is it possible for anyone to help you?
You are quite right. Forgive me, I was 80% asleep when I wrote that post...Sleep deprivation is truly a cruel mistress... I was, however, able to successfully root my VZW Galaxy S4 with the help of this extraordinarily helpful video via youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K5mCsDyW-TI
Now, I just need to find out which apps are bloatware & are safe to freeze.
Any of the Verizon apps, sdm.apk (so phone won't update), aether pal .apk it allows Verizon remote control of your phone, callid or w/e it's called, cityid anything you won't use.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
Great! Thanks a heapload! I'll do a little perusing around to see what's safe to freeze. Thanks again!
hey I'm sure it gets old us newbies asking what you seniors consider stupid questions, but I own the Galaxy Note i717 that was rooted but running stock rom and kernel, I just done the update to 4. 1. 2 and lost root and I live in a new town and state and do not have access to a computer at this time and ofcoarse the library will not let me download the software to be able to root and I have tried every one click method out there including poot debug apk files and still nothing. if anyone knows of any way of rooting without p.c that I could use please share. Or if someone knows if chainfire has a 1 click method to root my phone. I have checked all his post and have went over all the information on his work that I could find on the internet and here and have found nothing for my particular phone. So please don't tell me to read because I have done nothing but read for the last 4 days as I am retired. And I am now desperate thank you so much for your time in advance and any helpful answers that you could give I have been reading these forms for a very long time now and this is the first question I have asked , there is so much great advice from everyone on this site and again thanks so much in advance.

Your best bet is to borrow a friend or family member's PC and get it over with, it'll probably take you 2 minutes to root it.
Okay, I admit, this website indimidates the hell out of me. I'm tech savy and not afraid to mess with things, but the level of new terminology here is staggering.
Anyway, now that you know I'm a wimp: I have a SGP561 Xperia Tablet Z2 from Verizon with Lollipo 5.0.2. I want to root it in order to install custom fonts on Photoshop Touch as I'm living abroad and using my tablet as my main computer while the beast lives back home.
I tried to use the Easy Root Tool but it failed. I assume this is because my firmware is too new and not exploitable as of yet, which means I have to downgrade I believe. I have found some files for flashing (?) but they aren't for the SGP561 specifically - does that matter? All I found were these for Xperia Z2 (not the tablet Z2?)
So, in the easiest language possible, can someone please give a step by step on how to downgrade my SGP561 to a rootable firmware and then flash (?) back to the latest firmware and keep root?
Please, please, please, and thank you.
Bump?
This site is frustrating as hell. Mods are quick to lock noob threads without offering help, and you're not allowed to ask questions in the areas where anyone who knows the friggin answer would ever be anyway! I have a rooted z3V running lollipop, etc, so I'm sort of familiar with the process. But developments had been made where rooting became easier.
I've been wading through endless threads filed with outdated crap trying to figure out how the hell to root my z2 tablet for 3 weeks. None of the way this stuff has been written makes ANY sense.
I'm on 5.02, and want root and dual recovery. Should be simple, right?
I don't even know where to ask the damned question anymore. I've downloaded virus filed $#!+ on my computer, thoroughly screwing it up, TWICE now, only to find I probably didn't even need that file. -Or do I? Download links are so old they don't go anywhere. Can't tell what's what here.
Even this thread ; a WEEK OLD, and no help.

You said it dude. I'm going crazy trying to figure this out. I'm pretty deflated right now and demoralized.
If I ever figure it out, I'll hunt you down and let you know. If you do, please do the same.
Regards.

I followed those steps in that link. It didn't work for me.
I could not downgrade to 17.1.D.0.437. The device was either in reboot cycle or in the status of in-completed flashed after I flashed the firmware ftf file provided in that post. I had to flash the latest firmware to restore the tablet. I was glad I didn't bricked my tablet.
