[Q] Help Removing MCR Scripts PLease! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

OK... I've been looking everywhere for this fix but I can't find it anywhere.
How do you remove this program out of the phone I uninstalled the lag fix but I'm not able to remove the program is there an update I can download or something PLEASE!

Reset......
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App

Solution
I had the same problem, used one click root program to root my vibrant again. Then I downloaded "super manager" from the market. opened super manager went to apk, scrolled to the bottom found mcr scripts destination ( system/app/ase_mcr_r25.apk) then I downloaded "terminal emulator" from the market. Open terminal emulator and type;
$su
# rm -r /system/app/ase_mcr_r25.apk (spacing is critical)
This removed it for me, make sure you verify the location on your phone. I'm not sure if it would be the same for you.
hope this helps

how do i remove lag fix???

Mcr script installed an app when I ran it through a zip. Mine has an undo option. This was an early RyanZ lagfix. BTW OP.love the Obama with Spike Speigel do!
Vibrant vibrating nicely now,Kthx!

Lol thanks, this was when I first joined I didn't know anything and panicked. Anyways thanks everyone for the help

New Market works with NC!

For those of you who got the Market working, there is a Market update that is getting released. I installed it on my HTC HD2, but the same file would not work on the Nook. I did some searching and found one that works on the Galaxy Tab w/stock Eclair. It works on the NC!!
Requirement: You MUST have a working market. Follow this thread or this thread for more excellent info (and work) on enabling the Market.
Simply replace the Vending.apk in /system/app/ with this file (rename it Vending.apk first), reboot, and you are good to go! I would recommend backing up the original Vending.apk so that you can replace it if anything should go wrong for you.
You can use Root Explorer with /system/app in r/w mode, but it is simple to do via adb as well:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb shell mv /system/app/Vending.apk /system/app/oldVending.apk
adb push Vending.apk /system/app
adb reboot
**If you have problems, simply delete the Vending.apk, and replace it with the oldVending.apk
There is a newer version of the Market posted by devis and Xhorder in this post. Please use it instead. It fixes the weird star artifacts of this version. Instructions are exactly the same.
DO NOT simply click it to install. If it happened to work for you that way, you were lucky. You really should replace the Vending.apk with this file. Also, I saw one user report that the search function didn't allow Market searches. I believe they are the only one with that issue, and I'm not sure how they installed this. I assume they did not follow instructions, as my guide backs up the original file, and the person with the issue is asking for the orig apk. So, YMMV, but follow this instructions, and you should be fine.
Sweet! Worked for me. Danke, Herr Bimboy.
Very nice!
I actually found that the new market apk you provided installs fine as an update (no replacement of /system/app/Vending.apk needed). I opted for that as the safer option.
Thanks again!
Works very well! Very nice interface.
One issue: The "OK" and "Update" buttons are sometimes just slivers at the top of the screen. Doesn't prevent it from working though. You just have to be careful with your clicking.
Adding: This version doesn't have the problem of not listing all of the apps when you're in portrait mode. It simply works. And when you tell it to install/update an app, it does it RIGHT FRIGGIN' NOW and I mean Fassssst!
Thanks! Works great.
One question - Is there any way to get the fingerprint from the tab w/eclair? This would potentially give us access to some tablet-specific apps, like WSJ...

Awesome! I was hoping the script would get updated to include this.
FYI: Those considering updating to this version, it puts buttons up top where you can barely press them for confirmations.

The old market did that too. I don't think we'll see a fix for that before a Froyo port. The upper search link doesn't always work either. The Market is expecting the upper status bar to be on the top of the screen, and we do not have that.
I wondered if that was just on mine lol , frustrating
So frustrated! I finally get my market working today and then I try this upgrade and it won't work. So I try to go back to the old one and it has stopped working too. I don't get what I did wrong. Of everything I did to get my nook rooted and working, this was the simplest part.
New version won't work in mine either. After accepting the agreement, it just closes.
Market 2.26 is supposed to be for Froyo+ only. How did you guys get it to Work?
Switched back to old Market.. everything is ok again
Tried this, got to click "accept" and then it vanished. Back to old market for me too.
I updated it with Astro and it worked fine. It's better to install apk's with Astro than others methods.
Guys, as I mentioned, do not just adb install, or click do a normal install. Save out your /system/app/Vending.apk and use this file to replace it, after renaming it Vending.apk. Then reboot.
I also tried simply installing it, and the Market app would only briefly flash or I could get to the catalog but not get to the details page of any app without force closing. That's why you should back up the Vending.apk file.
So, REPLACE the /system/app/Vending.apk, reboot and you'll be fine.
First, rename the file to Vending.apk
Use adb:
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p5 /system
adb shell cp /system/app/Vending.apk /system/app/oldVending.apk
adb push Vending.apk /system/app/
adb reboot

I did this too, I just saved it to my mircoSD card and open Astro, clicked on the .apk and ran upgrade and everything works great now. My market is working 100%
I guess Astro knows what is doing because before update it warns about you' re updating a system app.

install setCPU zip file on to my TB?

OK, i really did look n im just more confused so feel free to tell me how too inexperienced i am to be trying "all things root" as long as u follow that w/ the answer.
So i want to install "setCPU" zip file from this site cuz i dont currantly have a bank account (long story-cash,fine-debit/credit,no) so i assumed i could treat it just like an upgrade (thru CWM) but apparently not so... i checked but posts all seemed to be 4 non-root? Or for GAPPS? SDK? apk files-android package...?(is that the same as zip...or similar? ...GAPPS?...google apps maybe? im so lost i'd have to do a weeks worth of researsh b4 i get results...
Orrr, i could ask u guys n get results n knowledge simultaneously...this suits me better as ive allways learned by asking exhaustive questions coupled w/ research, So... how can i achieve this?
Oh i did see 1 post where it said to un-zip n place on sd n open w a file mgr. but i had already tried this. i tried to open w/ appInstaller, but it couldn't be found. Why cant i treat as upgrade? is there any particular place on sd card to put it? Is the "read me" me file necessary? should i place both files in folder?
[also do i really need to subscribe to my ow threads to be saved? why arent my posts auto-saved as in other sites or are they?where? ....u guys must hate me]
You are over-complicating things. You just have to first unzip the file to access the APK, then install it as you would any other application. No updating/flashing/whatever required. I used Astro file explorer to unzip it and then again to install it after downloading it to my TBolt. I'm sure other file explorers have the same capabilities.
You do know SetCPU is free for xda members right?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
CRAAAAP! im sorry all i had to do was read!!!! in my defence other "read me" files have seemed to say absolutely nothing. please dont ban me yet... i'll get btr
yeah thanks really i tried all of that but this is how dumb i am: 1st all i had to do was open and read 2nd when i figured out wat to do the hard way cuz i wouldnt read, i had my phone plugged in to PC so app intaller couldnt read it duh.. thnks 4 responding tho
k so i installed then uninstalled so i could try something new. Does anyone know how to do this maually as im trying to be more knowledgeable n resourceful. i got to the part where i have to "navigate to the directory where the setcpu.apk is found" and type in command line to install... and im lost.
how do i navigate anywhere? all i can do is type. after i type "adb devices" a bunch of script pops up w/ my device info but no "setcpu.apk." above.
I read the 1st post but your kinda getting me lost. I have a couple questions.
1. What are you trying to do?
2. Why is there a zip?
3. Are you trying to install setcpu?
If you're trying to install setcpu click on the link I gave you a couple post up. The link will direct you to a post where SetCPU is free and in an apk format. Download the apk onto your phone and install it using whatever file explorer you want to use. Open the file explorer and find the SetCPU apk and install it. FYI If you are not rooted SetCPU will not work. You must hit menu, setting, applications, and allow (check) unknown sources.
no i figured it out. it was a zip file w/ apk n directions i didnt bother to read cuz i thought it was just credits or watever. i was do'n everything right but my file manager wasnt reading anything at the time (i was so frustated that i prob. had phone plugged in to PC n just didnt realize) cuz it worked later...
NOW i want to do it the hard way... i KNOW- stupid but i gotta start somewhere. i cant find the directory where setcpu is located in ADB but i'll figure it out. Suggestions welcome but its certainly not pressing im just OCD thanks 4 all the help
anyway your way wouldve been much easier. i guess i missed the link earlier
You've gotta put the apk in the platform-tools folder. Mine would be C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools. To navigate adb to that folder I type cd C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools in command prompt. Hey you know there's a "ADB for dummies" thread, right? LOL I used it when I first learned. Here's another adb tutorial

"adb install setcpu.apk"
Then it says:

"Solution" Link2sd on 2.3.3 or 2.3.4

Hi all, i tried really hard to run link2sd on a stock firmware (no custom roms, kernels, etc)
and i found a "solution" for it...
Thanks to: neo1234matrix
If you already got link2sd working in froyo, then you need to do this "one time only":
1. Install script manager from market
2. run the script manager...
3. go to: menu>more>advance options> config > select browse as root
4. give the root permission to it...
5. now click the file /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
6. select "run as root" and "run at boot"
7. save it and reboot your phone
8. after reboot, start Link2sd... you are done....
After all of this, you can use link2sd without doing anything else
Important! :
Every time you reboot your phone (turn off and turn on) you will notice that all the linked apps disappear from your home screens, app drawer, installed apps lists, etc as if they weren't installed, but dont worry.
Start link2sd and click menu button>more>quickreboot and all the "missing apps" are going to be available again for all your needs!
Maybe someone can figure out an easier way, real solution or something?

Tested on S5830LUBKP8 and works.. but... the quick reboot its a bad thing..
maybe someone can do a better thing. =D
well.. THANK YOU!..
i know whats the problem... this new firmware includes # (deactivates the mounting script at boot)
in the new firmwares (at least the one i have, but i believe its on all the official firmwares):
in the init.rc file there is this line:
#service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
#oneshot
in froyo that line was:
service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
oneshot
i already editing init.rc with root explorer (text editor) to delete the #, but when i restart (normal) the phone, it rewrites the old init.rc with the # included
if we could edit and keep the init.rc file without the # in those lines, link2sd will work as good as froyo without scriptmanagers or quickrebots
maybe someone can help me out?
just some (useless?) info.
In my phone its says in init.rc file:
#service flash_recovery /system/etc/install-recovery.sh
#oneshot
Dont know why it not say autoshot
ups, my bad, it is oneshot, i wasn't viewing the phone screen while typing this on the pc
i like link2sd.. would be cool of theres some permanent solution for this..
anyways thanx for the temp solution.. atleast now we know link2sd works on gingerbread..
Did not work for s5660 Samsung Galaxy gio with 2.3.3 stock rom
any other solution?
Can we modified the ROM of 2.3.4 about int.rc?

you can modify the file, but when the phone turns off- turn on, it will generate a new file (from boot.img)... the only way to get it right should be decompiling boot.img and editing that file and compile boot.img
but thats risky
Thank you! Not a bad solution! Works perfectly!

Google Movies Workaround Script

As noted in other Topics, the Goigle Video App checks for SU to detect a Rooted Device. So you just need to simply Rename SU to something else like MU. This process can be annoying and a bit tedious so I decided to automate most of it.
I know it isn't an App (I'll work on that later) but here is a script you can run from a Terminal Emulator.
Just download the script to the root of your SDcard and then run this in Terminal:
Code:
sh /sdcard/googlevideo.sh
It'll Autodetect where SU is and whether you're running the script as Root or not. If you aren't Root it'll inform you whether you need to run "su" or "mu" to get Root. Once Run as Root it'll automatically rename SU as needed.
Download the Script here: http://db.tt/nNy1jCy

If you don't see "Movies" category or the "Videos" app in the New Market here's a Fix.
NOTE: DO NOT USE IF USING OLD MARKET!!
If you have issues return it back to 161!
Root Explorer Method
1. Clear Market data in Application Info
2. Navigate to System folder in Root Explorer and "Mount R/W"
3. Long-press build.prop and "Open in Text Editor"
4. Find "qemu.sf.lcd_density=161" or "ro.sf.lcd_density=161" and change it to 160
5. Reboot
6. Run Market
File Expert Method
1. Clear Market data in Application Info
2. Navigate to /System folder in File Expert
3. Menu-->More-->Mount-->Mount as ReadWrite
4. Copy build.prop to sdcard
5. Press build.prop, Open as Text, Select a Text Editor
6. Find "qemu.sf.lcd_density=161" or "ro.sf.lcd_density=161" and change it to 160, now Save
7. Copy build.prop back to /System, Overwrite when asked
8. Reboot
9. Run Market
This should allow you to see most missing Apps and Access the Movies category.

[MOD] Hulu/WIN Flash Hack

Hey guys. So I made this hack for my old epic, then my GSII, now I'm posting it here since I know I DEFINITELY wanted unrestricted hulu access on such a nice tablet, without the extra price/"not available for devices" BS of Hulu+. This should also work for any other sites that restrict mobile devices. This hack simply changes 3 characters in the flash library file from AND to WIN, and copies my modded file over the stock/updated adobe file upon each boot.
For those who wish to learn more the original post can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=114215
New install instructions
Flash via CWM OR follow the instructions above, but you must locate the files within the zip sub folders. They are in the folders they should be in if you were to unzip to the device root. You may also copy and paste with root explorer if you prefer that to ADB (I do). Just make sure you get the file permissions right (they should match other files in the same folder).
NOTE: If you have adfree or another adblock, you'll see a message to disable it, you don't need to disable it (they just want you to watch their commercials), just wait the 30 seconds or whatever it is and that black message counts as your commercial, and your show will play
Once we get a few custom kernels out there with init.d support we won't need script manager (init.d support just means it will run all scripts in the folder /system/etc/init.d) making the process a bit cleaner but for now this works. I also have a cwm flashable version but we'll have to wait a bit longer for that. For now let's just be happy Jcase got us root Enjoy!
EDIT: Updated for ICS AND JELLYBEAN and flash version 11.1.115.12 (8/9/2012) (latest..for now) LATEST VERSION IS BUILT TO BE EASIER/MORE RELIABLE FOR SOME USERS
TESTED: Confirmed on Galaxy SII on CMX. Turns out Jelly Bean (and maybe ICS) have changed the order on boot so that init.d runs BEFORE flash overwrites our hack on each boot. In other words, the flash APK is re-unpacked in its non-hacked form by adobeflashplayer on each boot somewhere after the boot animation and probably just before the homescreen is displayed. The init.d scripts we run are unfortunately run at the VERY beginning, while the OEM logo is still displayed (BEFORE the boot animation). Because of this, script manager is currently absolutely required until I can find another "entry point" to run these scripts
It is this unfortuante order that requires using script manager to run the script "on boot" later in the process.
Be sure BUSYBOX is installed or GTFO
It IS typically included in most custom roms, but still, MAKE SURE.
HOWTO Video (without using the adb method above though it still works just fine) thanks to jjdevega if you need it here http://youtu.be/rXTdIyMP_Xs
OLD install instructions below for those without CWM:
So here goes.
1. Update flash via the market to the latest version
2. Download & unzip the 2 files linked below to be pushed to /data/flash
3. adb shell mkdir /data/flash
4. adb push S98fixflash /data/flash
5. adb push libflashplayer.so /data/flash
5.5 (almost forgot) Install Busybox from the market, let it run, grant su, and have it install the latest busybox for you
6. Install Script Manager from the market
7. Open Script Manager and be sure to select to give it root access
8. Browse to /data/flash in Script Manager, select S98fixflash and select root and boot options (thus making it run on each boot, with root permissions)
9. Reboot (Press + hold power, power off)
10. Open Browser, open settings, advanced, user agent string, desktop
Thanks OP for the mod!!!
Now that we have root can anyone try vgeezy's hacked apk and see if it works? this method should allow hulu.com and is much more noob friendly.

For those saying they got this to work, how were they able to get a root adb shell on their comp to make this work? Although rooted with vipermods tool, I cannot get a root adb shell through windows, and my understanding is that it takes a modified boot-img for that to happen.
Is there a way to make this mod work from a terminal on the tablet? Thanks!
Edit: Tried opening the prime's internal storage up through windows, going to android/data and creating a 'flash' folder and moving the two files into it. Then going through script manager and setting the script to run as root at boot.
Didnt work.
However using ES to move the files to system/data/flash and setting to run at boot from there seems to have worked.
Any help?

Also, is it just me or does ScriptManager constantly force close for anyone else?

Connectbot can replace adb. Also, you don't need to use adb at all, you can use root explorer to place the files in the correct locations, it's just easier to write a step-by-step that way. Also, if you rooted, you could try running from that same folder as you will have the adb tool within the "one click root" folder you most likely used (or normal platform tools if you used jcase's step-by-step).
Script Manager doesn't have issues for me, it's very popular software and well made. Maybe try uninstalling/reinstalling? If not, clear cache/data for script manager and try again? Not sure...
EDIT: If you don't HAVE root, and try to OBTAIN root while running script manager, it will force close I believe. Make SURE you have root, use adfree or titanium backup to confirm maybe...
2nd Edit: Also, don't use usb transfer, that just puts it in the 'internal sd' folder. Use root explorer and back all the way out to the root directory first.
I tried this and couldn't seem to get it to work. However, for anyone looking for a quick way to watch hulu in a browser, download "flash video browser" from the market. It is $0.99 I believe and no additional tinkering is needed.

For those those that don't have root and/or don't wish to mess with root/existing Flash installation an alternative is to buy/use Flash Video Browser. Works great on the Prime and was recently updated with ICS compatibility. Works great with Hulu.
Those who did this, did it affect your ability to upgrade to ICS? I'd like to try, but don't want to miss out on future OTAs.

No has nothing to do with ota. i had the mod before when i was on hc, upgraded fine to ics, redid the mod and i was good to go.

Thanks - I was curious, since removing built-in apps prevented the OTA I thought this might too.

Any clue why the User Agent String option might be missing from Settings>Advanced?
It's odd, because when I first got the TP I hunted for it, but couldn't find it--but then stumbled across someone mentioning it online, and lo-and-behold it had appeared for some reason.
Now that I'm trying to use this hack, it's missing again. Any ideas?
I usually just press menu -> Request desktop site.
Hulu works great with this mod in desktop mode. That add message threw me off, thanks for the warning, video started 30sec later.
thanks, worked perfectly with root explorer
