Im thinking of up grading to the Vibrant. Any reason not to? Is there a better phone on the horizen? Im currently with T-mobile and dont want to switch. Thanks in advance!!
Only other choice is the T-Mobile G2 (Oct 6.) or myTouch HD (rumored to release November '10?). I've gotten the Vibrant since week one and don't regret getting it. The Super AMOLED screen is definitely beautiful and one of the things admired most from this phone.
get it
best screen. like a hdtv in your pocket
t-mobile has great 3g speeds
hummingbird > snapdragon
released in 100+ countries, including every major carrier in the US so community support should be huge
there's always better phones on the horizon, but this is the phone i've been waiting for ever since the iphone was announced years ago. and it hasn't disappointed
no it sucks. *at the airport, using vibrant to tether 3g to laptop*
G2 is very appealing and I am considering switching... it comes down to physical keyboard and stock android VS bigger and much better screen, slightly better hardware..

while i understand this viewpoint, touchwhiz is easily disabled. there is also no guarantee that the G2 will get the same OTA updates as the N1 simply because it is stock android. the original droid on verizon is a good example.
but yeah, if you need/want a hardware keyboard the G2 is a better choice (obviously). unless you can deal with sprint and the epic
I got two. My wife approved.
My 3rd android phone (just from passion of the OS), this is by far my most favorite of them. Speed, Design, Display... love everything about it.
Touchwiz is actually very usable from personal experience and reviews. It added alot of 'shortcuts' that makes life alot easier. For example, swipe notification bar to change brightness while outdoor, instead of going through 3-4 menus. Overall, Vibrant is a very solid phone at stock, definitely recommend it.
Only issues now are the GPS and Froyo, mostly Froyo.
+Amazing looking screen, ignore the iPhone 4 people and their color fidelity nonsense, the Vibrant is more colorful that the iPhone 4 and looks a lot better when viewing pictures and movies.
+Runs very fast, 1ghz processor.
+Very thin and light compared to the iPhone 4 (especially now that everyone has put a case on theirs), the back is plastic not glass, but I like saving the weight and I think the patterned back looks fine, comes with 2 colored backplates in the package I got.
+Android, with an open market, unlike At&t's flavor, the Captivate.
+Currently the best T-mobile phone available if you need to get a new one right now.
+Shoots 720p at 30fps. Big selling point, my friend bought a flip video and my phone takes the exact same quality of video and I don't have to carry an additional device, the camera is 5mp and also quite good.
Some downsides
-T-mobile took out some features from the stock Galaxy S, including fm radio, front facing camera and flash. I don't really need a front facing camera or a flash, the night mode works very well and renders a flash almost useless. Fm radio would be nice but I can live without it, I just loaded up my own music.
-Bloatware, it comes with a slew of crappy apps that you cannot remove without rooting. I would strongly recommend rooting, deleting bloatware, and then unrooting (The sales rep. at T-mobile actually recomended this ) It's about as safe as it can get and very easy, 1 click root and unroot, just look for it on xda. Also expect this on other T-mobile phones, except maybe the G2.
If you can wait a little just to see what's planned for the winter you might consider it, but I doubt you will be that disappointed if you buy the vibrant now. T-mobile has had a sad list of Android phones besides the Nexus One, so I doubt there's anything better than the myTouch or G2 coming out.

If we, T-Mobile USA customers are not honored, we should boycott that manufacturer.
Why shan't that Galaxy tab come to T-Mobile, but will go to AT&T, Sprint, and VZW?????

So you're upset that T-Mobile isn't getting the Samsung Galaxy S Tab? What makes you think that it is 100% on Samsungs part?
This is the SAMSUNG VIBRANT forum, I honestly don't care too much about a tablet because I'll never use it. I just find the tablet and the Vibrant to be irrelevant. If anything.. why would you would a contracted tablet? If anything I would want a WiFi only version and just tether with my phone.
Samsung has been moving away from cutting exclusive deals with wireless operators for its growing slate of mobile devices. It launched its most recent smartphone, the Galaxy, with the top four U.S. wireless operators, Verizon Wireless, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile USA. T-Mobile USA, a unit of Deutsche Telekom AG and the fourth-largest U.S. wireless carrier, hasn't yet worked out a deal to carry the tablet, a person familiar with the matter said.

Nothing about that article says the Galaxy Note is coming to AT&T.
In fact if you look at the model number, it's clear that the version that just went through FCC approval will never be sold by AT&T. Usable on AT&T - yes. Actually sold by AT&T - no.
AT&T phones have a model designator starting with SGH. SGH-I897 (Captivate), SGH-I997 (Infuse), SGH-I777 (AT&T GSII)
International generic units have a model designator starting with GT. The unit in that article is GT-I9220. So it's an international model that, while it will work on AT&T's network, will NEVER be sold by them in a contract-subsidized fashion. AT&T has NEVER sold a GT model on contract in the United states. If history is any indicator, if the Galaxy Note is ever sold by AT&T, it's going to be about a six month latency before the AT&T version drops. (See, for example, the delay between the GT-I9100 and the SGH-I777)

How would one obtain an international version for T-Mo then? Or is it a possibility that they will pick it up?
If it's like the I9100, an International variant supporting the T-Mobile bands won't exist. T-Mobile may or may not sell their own variant.
The heavy customization of the T-Mobile GS2 is a sign that you likely won't see the Note sold on contract with TMo or even any compatible with their 3G bands.
I'm happy with my Streak...even if it is still running 2.2.2, but, I'm looking at the Note also. If it gets to at&t before summer of 2012, I'll grab it.
Is it going to have a notifications led light?

yah i was loving the streak too (esp with steve's excellent builds). but i sold that for the s2, and i really miss the big screen. for me, the sgs2 feels like a downgrade hahahaha. ill be getting the note when it comes out full price. might have to sell the s2 to help pay for it

+1........
I've carried the 5" streak in a velcro closing belt loop case for over a year w/o any problems. The Note, with the 5.3" screen has less top & bottom than the streak does, so it won't be all that different

TOO Big for my taste. and too small to be a "pad"... not sure where this falls in to .. I'll be keeping my SGS2... only thing I WOULD change to is the Prime
I think the Note would be great for me, especially at work where carring even a 7" pad would be restrictive. I would use the stylus to write my notes all day long at work.

I've had the streak in my pocket every day since December 26 2010. Not an issue at all, if it is then you haven't owned one or have a very small figure or wear skinny jeans. I can't wait for the Note to come out, it will be in my pockets daily as my personal phone, along with my Atrix work phone. And BTW, the Streak is more often in my front pocket than back.
I've had the S2 since Friday and I love it. However, I have had my eye on the Note since I heard about it last month. Looks like a lucky family member will be getting my S2 once the Note come out If I don't like the Note then I'll take my S2 back, I can because I'm indian.
Hello all,
I love big screens because I read a lot on phones,
so I decide to buy either the HTC Titan or the Titan II
my question to whom used both phones for a while
please advise which one should I invest my money in
I don't care a lot about camera or LTE network because I live in Egypt and LTE will be available within more than a year
I care a lot about signal strength and phone stability and long live
and somewhat the good looking and feel in hands
will the Titan I metal body be better than the Titan II plastic body?
I'll be waiting for your comments
and many thanks in advance
I have owned a Titan since January and find it to be one of the nicer Windows Phone 7 handsets after owning a few, However after trying a Nokia Lumia Have now ordered a Lumia 900, Screen size is 4.3" compared to 4.7" but has amoled screen and some nice Nokia Apps, Maybe worth considering? Can't comment on the Titan2 as Not available in UK yet but does look abit plasticky.

Thanks for your opinion,
and yes I know that the lumia phones are great, I've checked them at germany my self, they look great
but to be honest with you I prefer SLCD screens over AMOLED screens,
in reading small text AMOLED screens are horrible, but SLCD are great
as I said I read a lot of emails, news, and books on phones

Overall Performance is identical.. imo i like the look of the titan II but not enough to actually replace the reg titan... And the whole non removable battery i dislike... If for example i dropped the phone in water i would go for the battery OH WAIT you can't
can't speak on the titan2 but i have had my titan since november and its been rocksolid.its been dropped and accidently flung a few times and no problems.i use a rubber case and screen protector as the environments i work in are harsh. Great phone and excellent operating system. camera is good and the spec stands up to the recently released 900 and titan2 win7.5 phones. if you don't need lte and 16 mb camera then the titan is the one i would choose as they've sorted all the bugs that some of the titans had.
OK, but what about call quality on the Titan I
and rceiption bugs
I had a Titan until I shattered the screen. So, I got a Titan II.
Both are great phones, but you may as well get the Titan II for the extra benefits (camera, LTE, etc). It will not hurt you.

Mostly since things are fixed with updates while AT&T sucks at that
it does seem atandt titans had more than their share of problems where as the european unlocked titans have been for the most part very good. a couple issues with the early release pre nov 2011 but from nov on a good phone with regular updates

I quess so
but I think the Titan I still a risky choice
but I love its metal body,

Personally like the metal finish on Titan 1. I had mine since January and no complaints. Likely be able to pick it up for cheaper price too since the titan 2 is out. Both are pretty much the same phone with the exception of lte and camera.

this is mostly the reason that many members complain about poor receiption

but if any body has more advices I appreciate him/her
does anybody has more advices?
Hey guys, I've been planning on upgrading my phone which is literally like 6 years old some lg slider type of phone for texting.
I was planning on getting the S2 (international since I'm in Canada) even after knowing the release of S3. One reason was to save money $0 for S2 and 150 for S3 on a 3 year contract. But the main reason was the hardware, I know the cpu is pretty on par with the international exynos quad core but the gpu seems to fall short right? Not to mention they took out the Wolfson sound chip which I was really anticipated on since I rather just use my phone as a multimedia player than buying for example a cowon mp3 player.
The thing thats really holding me back is I guess the gpu. I own an ipod touch and never in the world did I think would be playing games on such a small device but nevertheless, it kills time pretty quickly and keeps me from being bored throughout the day or at work.
I just wanted to know if anyone who has the American variant of the S3, are the current games graphically looking and fluidity decent enough even though it uses a Adreno 225? Is it worth getting the S3 with the Adreno 225 than the S2 with mali400? Just curious if the Adreno 225 performs better than the S2's mali400.
If not, I'll probably just stick to getting the S2 and maybe wait to import the international or just wait it out for the next "S4" or the next "big" thing aside from apple's iphone .
Thanks guys!

I'm thinking he meant on the s3 period vs the s2 Hercules. I speak garbled English well.
And I haven't played to many games but have tried Dead Trigger and Gta3. Both run super smooth. My friend played max Payne and Riptide GP and had zero issues. Though I watched him get stuck trying to answer a telephone on Mac Payne lol.

s3, no doubt. (finding a few small quirks though)
i have two s2 phones, we went to the s3, too many changes and good things to list. battery, screen, responsiveness, gps lock times, signal, ........ (lost 4g though giving up the s2, have it in my city)
Is it confirmed that the Wolfson sound chip isn't in the US variants of the S3? For some reason I thought it was still there. I asked supercurio of he was going to work on the At&t version, and he said he hadn't decided.

theres a bunch of threads out there backing up that the american variant doesn't have wolfson. Would have been beast if it did tho.
Thanks guys, think I'll go with the S3. Will miss the old candy rectangular shape phones tho lol.
Out of curiosity, why do people buy their phones outright? I mean even after buying it and getting the right to choose any kind of plan for the phone, won't it eventually end up to the normal price of $50. Since most texting plans are 20-30 and doesn't come with caller id/voice msg or even data and to get all those will be another 20-30. So it'll eventually end up to the normal $50 plans O_O
It's a shame that america has the worst mobile plans.. so expensive compared to other countries, especially korea or japan. Luckily they have free wifi literally anywhere you go so data isn't really necessary but their plans are actually good. I mean who the f*** made it so we have to pay for caller id, that shows up on our normal house phones without any extra charges lol..
thanks again

I'm currently a proud owner of a Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V running Android 4.0.4 It's a great little phone- I'm guessing it is virtually indestrcutible- (I dropped it. ALOT. And spilled some water. Not even a hiccup!). It's a little phone that could and for something like this- it's amazing, but I feel it's time for an upgrade. As great as it is, let's face it. It's ancient. A 600MHz ARM V6 processor, 418MB of memory, and it's screen is only 3.2". It's opnly supposed to run Froyo. /FROYO/. That's pretty ancient. I'm looking for a new phone, but here's the catch- It has to be on a reasonably inexpensive pre-paid plan. (My parents don't want me to get a contract and I don't blame them, they can be expensive.) Virgin Mobile (My current carrier; 35 dollars a month with unlimited 3G) has only two "decent" phones- A 199.99 HTC One V. A SOLID phone but seriously, 512MB RAM and a SINGLE CORE 1GHz is really not a lot. On the other hand, they have the 300 dollar Evo V 3D with 4G, though it's not really something I want and it's a bit over my prace range- (Up to 250 USD).
While searching plans, I found T-Mobile's 30 dollar Monthly 4G plan. It's wonderful for me. I don't call much but I use lots of data and text alot. T-Mobile also has better coverage, and this is 4G. Not boring old 3G. (I don't mind 3G, but 4G is just better.) While thinking of decent phones I could manage to get GSM Unlocked, I thought Galaxy SII, Galaxy Nexus, and a few others. I looked all around Craigslist NYC, Amazon, Google, and Ebay for all phones and I found that on ebay the bids for a decent SII in decent condition could reasonably be bought for under $250 (T-Mobile/GSM). I'm wondering- Do I need the GSM or the T-Mobile variant, or will either work. Is this phone good and a value for the money? I really like the design and the specs on it. It also has lots of JB ROMs and Native ICS which is a HUGE plus.
Also, is there any difference between the SII with the Capacitive buttons and the one with a huge Home button? (P.S.: I like the one with all capacitive buttons more )
Thanks for reading this.Any answers/input is greatly appreciated.
Edit! I was looking at the ebay link again and found a website called Wirefly where they are offering a SII 4G for 100 bucks if I make a new account. Does this count with a Prepaid account? And if so, is the SII 4G compatible with normal SII roms?

Your profile says you're in the US, so I'm assuming your talking about T-Mobile USA.
The Galaxy S II for T-Mobile is massively different than the "one with the huge home button", as you refer to it. They have completely different hardware, including SoC/CPU/GPU.
The "one with the huge home button" is the I9100, and this post is currently in the forum for that device.
The one for T-mobile USA that has the 4 capacitive buttons is the SGH-T989, and that device has its own forum.
There are also other variants for US carriers AT&T, Sprint, and US Cellular. The one for US Cellular doesn't have its own forum but is somewhat closely related hardware wise to the Sprint variant, so there are posts concerning it within that forum. But the AT&T, Sprint, and T-mobile USA variants are all different from each other, and they are all different from the I9100.

That's still the SGH-T989.
Uhuh.... I'm getting a bit confused. Should I simply repost this thread in the other forum?

Pretty sure they only have one.
If you have questions about the T-mobile version, you should post in the T-mobile forum. This device does work on T-mobile USA's network, but only gets Edge, as it doesn't fully work to get "4G" on that network.

You need to consider what network you're intending on running the device on before you get the device itself.
The i9100 gets high speed data on AT&T's network, but only gets Edge on T-mobile USA's network. There's nothing that can be done about this; the phone antenna hardware just doesn't receive one of the two necessary frequencies to make it happen.
I've heard rumors that the T-mobile variant can be modified to get high speed data on AT&T's network, but it doesn't work that way out of the box.
The LTE variant that AT&T sells (the Skyrocket) can reportedly be modified to get high speed data on T-mobile USA's network, but it doesn't work that way out of the box.
EDIT: BTW, the Skyrocket has its own separate forum from the AT&T variant as well.

As I said, the i9100 (which is the international device) will only get Edge speeds on T-mobile USA's network. As long as you know this going in...
Any questions pertaining to the device actually sold by T-mobile should go to the forum for that device.

BTW - the implication in your first post is that 4G is VERY important to you. You DO realize that this eliminates the I9100 as a possible choice for your device to use on T-mobile's network, right?

The link you posted, is for customers who create a new post paid (contract) account through us for T-Mobile. We do offer T-Mobile pre-paid phones and accounts, but the prices are usually different. I am happy to help you with any questions you have about Wirefly - I work at our HQ. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk plan specifics.

Its fine, really. I simply do not like any of the T-Mobile prepaid phones. Bad dev support/specs. I'd gladly get a postpaid but they're expensvce , contracts are a hassle, and my parents won't let me get a contract: prepaid only. I live 4 blocks from a TMobile phone, I can just buy the plan there.
Also, I think the S3 is out of my price range. Plus, the s2 is still a great phone and I kinda like the design more.
Where only possible 3 or 4 months away from the launch of the G7 obviously it not going to have the Snapdragon 845 thank to Samsung.
My guess at specs.
Snapdragon 835
4GB of ram
64GB of storage as standard
Micro SD
18:9 5.7" POLED display at 2k
Quad DAC on all G7's variants
Improved dual camera with a more upto date sensor.
Headphone jack
USB Type C
ip68
Wireless charging on all G7 variants
Basically it more likely be a smaller version of the V30, unless they go for even slimmer bezel's this time around.
So will you buying one or will you wait for the V30 which will eventually drop in price & probably cost less than the G7 when that launches.
G7 will have snapdragon 845
I have my 870DS since August, why should I buy a new one if it's gonna die in 3 years, then I will think about a G10

Same to me...
Shifted from G3 to G6 after 2 happy years.
---------- Post added at 07:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 07:30 AM ----------
I'm waiting for :
6GB of ram.
I'll probably wait for LG V40
Don't really see what could be an upgrade at this point.
Sure, you can always go faster processor, more RAM yadda yadda...
But let's be true here: the G6 is already a beast and you can hardly get it to stutter with normal usage (even with an realtively "old" processor).
So "upgrading" from G6 to a possible G7 seems odd.
Maybe from older devices, yes.
I've had my G6 for less than two months. G7?
I don't know. Not without the latest and greatest processor.
I wouldn't buy one with an 835 in it.
Daaaaaaamn these smarpthone versions releases are rolling like hot cakes... shiiit Just got the G6 & V30 just been released holy madre...
For me if the G7 comes with better of all inclluding the Cine Log feature from V30 and a way better front Camera as well as improved or better Back camera and if, only if it comes to Videotron here in Quebec/Montreal as this time, Videotron Marketing guys were stupid enough to not get the LG V30 but instead they got Exlusive Pixel 2 & 2XL and they're not selling at all.. yeees i'd buy the G7 and also if the form factor of the overall phone is a bit wider in the feel of the hands as the G6 seems a bit thinner in terms of grip I find. And would be nice if Videotron could get LG phones that comes with DAC features
By the way, those who own a G6, did you guys noticed that Instragram has been pre-installed? If yes, how can I fully un-install it, i mean fully without leaving any trace of it so I can go and install some Instagram Mods??
Thanks guys

If you buy the unlocked versions (US or international) you can unlock the BL.
If they are carrier branded, the carrier decides if the BL can be unlocked.
But I guess you won't be buying Samsung either. KNOX is a pain.
I'll probably keep my G6 for another year or so. I think after that I'll hop over to a pixel phone.

Will never buy an lg phone ever again...for the simple fact that most versions are not boot unlocked. Especially in canada where I am. I got the lgg6 and still no news about a root. Ill go back to samsung.

Hi,
Good to find some Montreal folks here By the way, I don't know if my information is correct but with Videotron or with the new law that has pass here in Quebec, when you buy a new smartphone, 2 months after you can call your carrier and tell them to fully "Unlock" your phone, meaning the BL. Just bought a week and half ago my LG G6 (coming from Nexus6P, had to change cuz battery draining fast now, gonna change the battery) and I asked the question to the seller and he confirmed to me, that in December, just call Videotron or come by and will make the call for you to get your LG G6 fully unlocked. And I told him, if ain't true i'm going back to kick his ass. And thats when he also mentioned me about the new law as well. So I don't know if this applies to other carriers (should be as long as you're in Quebec/montreal etc..) but you should double check.
By the way, are you saying that Samsungs phones when you buy them here either Videotron or Bell etc.. they are already Unlocked??? Can you confirm??
Also whats the reason you got the LG G6?? Me its mostly the Wide Angle feature. I was battling between Note8 & LG G6 and I went with the LG G6 even though I know that in terms of quality, Samsung Note 8 camera has an edge over the G6 and I heard that Note8 takes also two pics when you take a pic including a wide one but Note8 from what i've research does NOT have that WIDE ANGLE feature LG has... am I wrong???
Very curious

Hey man
Well Bootloader lock is not the same as carrier lock. The carrier lock thing you are talking about I already know about it. Its not the same thing. Everywhere in canada there will be no more carrier lock on any phone starting December amd you can call to unlock for free if u had a phone before that.
A boot lock is not the same tho. I went with LG instead of samsung cuz at the time the note 8 and s8 wasnt out yet...i was always a Samsung guy... Also the g6 looked nice and had a big screen...wht i didnt know tho is that lg has menu buttons on screen that you cannot hide unless u buy an app and they eat away from the screen making it a small screen size after all. Also lg has a bad history of not unlocking bootloaders and i didnt know that...samsung on the other hand, I was able to root on day one! All the samsung notes i had from the first nite to the note 5.
I've been trying to sell my g6 and get a note 8.
But aside from all that...the g6 is a great phone...battery life is crazy on it...it lasts a full week on one charge with heavy use. But lets face it...we are all here because we want to root and customize our phones not just to talk how nice they are haha.

Hey man, thanks for your reply and for explaining the difference btw the two Bootlaoder & carrier lock. Appreciate . Thats one other reason why I always had Google signed phone whether developed by Huawei or LG etc.. but with google phones I could as well UNLOCK them instantly.
True about LG G6 menu button on screen but for me that does NOT really bother me to be honest. First thing I did when I got my G6 is install Nova Prime Launcher and make it look like Stock android Oreo period and the rest stays LG style. You see I didn't know much about LG's bad history in regard to unlocking bootloaders
For me, I had and still have an amazing offer DEAL for the Note8 with Videotron but as long as Note can't have that G6 Wide angle option camera, I can pass the Note8 and maybe wait and see what the S9 will bring. Cuz honstly the G6 is a stunning phone just the screen is stellar. Sucks that Videotron ain't getting the V30 this time, they decided to get Pixel phones.
Oh well, lets crossfinger that a working unlock bootloader of G6 or LG will come soon
Best,
Since I like snappin photos, especially in low light conditions and I am pretty dissapointed with how lg treats its european costumers I'll definitely go for a samsung or google phone.
