Normally the tablet tends to overheat over time so it's not a good idea. Why not just set the Screen Dim/Off/Fade from the default 30secs to 30mins or 10, I assume this would be good default as I don't think you will be stuck in one page for longer than 5-10mins.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll take your advice.
I have recently installed cyanogen on my desire and have found the mod to be an absolute joy to use. The one irritation however has been the automatic screen dimming. Every 6 or 7 seconds or so the screen dims itself. This can become very annoying when reading long messages or any other text. I have looked on lots of threads but have found no answer to my question. Surely there must be a simple solution to turn off this automatic dimming setting?
Thanks

I think....(not exactly sure) but that may be apart of the actual rom, if there is no setting under display then its probaly built in that way. Under settings/display you can change the screen time out if that help
reply
I've played around with all the settings myself and have so far been unsuccessful. Its not a problem really, just a bit annoying. I just find it hard to believe such an awesome mod doesn't have a simple off switch.
If anyone knows of a way to extend the screen dimming then that will help too.
I think what you're looking for is the Sleep setting. Go under Settings -> Display -> Sleep, and select a longer time interval if needed. Your current setting might be set to sleep after 15 seconds, causing the screen to dim at 6-7 seconds. Change it to maybe 1-2 minutes.
yes you can. Put the widget 'Power Control" on the home screen and you can do it easily from there. Thats how i do it.
Recently I installed cm 12 but I have a problem ie the screen backlight is always on when the screen is off........I need help.....

but the brightness adusting is also not working
When using my phone sometimes ill notice the brightness level flicker. It's usually on white backgrounds.
It happened on the stock ROM but it's also happening on dual cores ROM.
Is it something to do with automatic brightness? Does anyone know?
Cheers

Yep this is due to the Automatic Brightness. Seems to be worse under florescent lights as the software tries and auto adjust in real time. I think I saw a mod in the forum somewhere but I cant find it now. It adjust using an average instead of directly.

If anyone knows where this mod is I'll greatly appreciate it.
Anyone? Auto-brightness is annoying.
Hello xda !
(first, excuse me for my bad english, my first language is french)
You know, the project "freexperia" provide CyanogenMod on xperia phones.
One feature of this phone is that it has a multicolored LED bar. 3 group led with three primary color.
You probably know the application "Illumination bar". But it interacts with the bar led through an API, written by Sony. (correct me if I'm wrong).
Some ports work. Others do not. It depends on many factors actually.
So I wrote an application, initially for my own personal use. I decided to share with you, to know your opinions and ideas.
The application itself is not very interesting. It can adjust the color of the LED bar.
Well, once the service is launched, it will execute a bash script. In an infinite loop, the script will constantly check if the LCD screen is on or not. If it is, the LED bar lights up with the values you have chosen. Otherwise, it turns off.
The LED bar also check the battery level, if the energy saving option is enabled, and the level will drop to 15% ~ 20% of what you have previously configured.
Simply. This roughly reproduces what happens with a stock ROM. Except that the ROM completely off the led bar after a certain period of inactivity (and reactivate it if you push a ranom button).
Currently, bar LED will remain lit as long as the screen is on. I write a piece of code to add this feature later if that tells you
I now propose to try the application. The root is required because the application will execute a bash script (I told you earlier).
No need to patch or enter recovery mode. Just install an APK. Link in the description.
Now I count on your opinion. Hope you like it.
Thank you in advance!
Note: The application is designed to work without any further application to interact with the LED bar. It is for these roms without service "Illumination" this application has been designed. Thank you!

Changelog : v1.1
Updated : Preparing for control three colors independently, but not immediately
Updated : Light bar is not updated when the screen is off. But always updated when the screen is on (for battery saving)
Updated : Presets values (Red, Green, Blue, Magenta, Yellow, Cyan, Sony Blue)
Improve performances. But not sure.
Removed : Wake lock permission. Useless, maybe in the future...
Updated : ... wait, I have forgotten the rest ...
thunbs up for developing this app.
Can you make it work on ICS also? I would really like to see it..
does this app allow to choose 3 different colors at the same time? I have been waiting for an app to do this since I have bought XU!
ICS
nice work mon frere but it makes my phone very slow
Good job guy !
I test it and I give my results for battery consumption and if lags are present

for the next update, it should not pose too much trouble. Theoretically.

Oh. This is weird. Now question is whether this comes from application or another program that is in conflict.
The question is whether "bash" is the source of the problem (this is the process that executes the main script).
For that, go in the developer options, and activate "Show CPU usage". It should display an overlay. And tell me if the process "bash" is top of the list.

Consumption should still increase. Bar LED consumes a significant portion of energy.
Do not hesitate to lower the light levels in the application. A little less light can save a few minutes.
I am looking particularly off led bar after a certain time when the phone screen on.
-------------------------------------
If any questions, or ideas, do not hesitate.
No lags on my phone with your app !
For battery consumption, not especially a significant decrease for battery
I'm on CM10.1
Its sencond on the list.
Would really like it if you could modify the app.........like add preset colours and make the light work like exactly in the stock rom(switch off after sometime....turn on when press buttons).
Hello there ! I developed an update!
More than a week without news. I know.
I added some features and optimized the script (a feature coming soon!).
I added a preset list of basic colors for the light bar. Of course you can always put the values you want. It does not change and will never change.
The script has been optimized (especially when the screen is off) and now I'm working on the option requested to independently apply a color on a single LED.
You will understand: 3 different color for different LEDs present on the bar! But it will not for now.
Soon.
The update is available in the first post.
Can You chose color for single LED? Any new information?

It is possible. In the next update, you can choose a color separately from the others.
It will not be available immediately unfortunately. This application is not really my first priority in truth ...

I want to reduce the minimal brightness from 20 to 10. Now I use the app YAAB, but can this easier?
I set in build.prop ro.lcd_min_brightness=10 and find this in /sys/class/backlight/panel/brightness correctly, but see no effect

Sorry, I gave too few info: I wonna stay on TW-base and there's only the slider, which doesn't make lower brightness than 20 (with the edits, I mentioned).
CM-, AOKP-roms offer manual adjustment and with that I got lower brightness.
I use this app when I'm reading something at night:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=pt.bbarao.nightmode
You may invert color to turn whites into black and reduce screen consumption, w/o installing or tweaking anything
I use black themes and I can adjust brightness lower than 20 by an app. My question is&was: how can I simply adjust it by system-value?

Thanks for the suggestion, good tip
I'm running the recent SlimKat (OmniRom-based) now. But I don't get brightness lower than 20 by settings, too, even if I set in build.prop ro.lcd_min_brightness=5 and in brightness-settings 0lux /0%. Strange...
I found this xposed module, 'screen filter', works great!
Hello, I use this application called screen filter, hope you serve https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.haxor
@bruno.filter: I use it, too. Slim and easy. @Joker87: I avoid xposed atm, because almost every discussion with dev's about any bug begins with 'if you use it, sorry...'
