[Q] Not allowed to boot zImage with fastboot - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello.
I have zImage for Jailbreak PS3. But when I want to fastboot it , it says FAILED <remote: not allow>. I have rooted hero with villainrom 12 , and fully working adb ( even when I check adb devices , i have my device here ). And I cant flash theirs custom recovery with that zImage ( cannot mount -a with adb ).
Thanks

I believe you need the unlocked SPL from Modaco. -- check out the link in my signature.

MAN , I LOVE YOU , working , thanks very much

hi,
I can not do fastboot of zImage.
I do not know how, can someone help me please.

Please read the post two above yours. It was explained clearly by theSpam that you need an unlocked SPL to be able to do this.

Pulser_g2 thank you for your reply.
But I am new to the world's root and the more I am French so my English did not good.
Could you please tell me how to unlock the SPL.
Thank you for your help

It really isn't difficult. If you can't understand the posts above pulsar isn't going to be able to explain it any better to you, you'll either have to find a French speaking forum which understands it or just try to understand what's here. As simple as I can make it (assuming you have a custom recovery installed):
1. Flash the unlocked SPL from theSpam's signature
2. Follow the fastboot method for zImage

Btdag thank you,
I managed to unlock the SPL, but my problem is the second set.
When you say: Follow the method for fastboot zImage,
I'll explain:
I turn off my hero,
I turn it on by pressing the back button at the same time
I get a menu with fastboot, the options I have are:
<vol down> HBoot Mode
<MENU> Reset Device
I have no zImage nowhere, yet I put the archive files of psfreedom on my sd card
Sorry if I bother you but can you help me.Please
Thank you.

Hmmm. You need to install the android sdk (there is usually a link in btdag's sig)
Then use command
fastboot boot zImage
Where fastboot binary and zImage are in present folder of a command prompt instance on your pc.

I'm sorry but I do not understand anything.
the fastboot should be doing from a hero

Hi
I got thank you very much for your help
One question, do I have to do the fastboot of zImage whit the PC every time
can I do from the phone?

Yes, fastboot requires the PC. You could flash the image, but I don't know if it functions as a normal recovery image or not...

[Q] (6/30) of Tenfar's CWM .. help plz

hallo..
I have been working on my atrix for 8 hours trying to flash 2.3.4 rom .. anyway, i'm stock at flashing tenfar cwm
when i use cdm after unzipping the last update and run the command : fastboot flash recovery recovery-en-0630-1029.img .. i keep getting the same error again and again which is "fastboot" isnot recognized as internal or external command :S
if someone can help me solve this problem i would appreciate it << i'm sure i'm doing or forgatting something stupied >> thank u in advance
are you running that command from the directory your fastboot.exe files are in?
Where do you put your fastboot file and where do you put your recovery image?
Let's say you have them in the same folder, in C:\flash.
Then when you go to Run\cmd, you need to do CD\ C:\flash
Then you can type in the name of the fastboot file, I think it is recommended to use moto-flashboot, so the command wil be moto-fastboot.exe flash recovery ... ... ...
You most likely download the wrong fastboot file u pronounced got the one for linux. Go look for the on e for windows also make sure you are cd the file.
Atrix4G using XDA Premium app
here is the guide i followed step by step. took me about an hour or so give or take start to finish. i unlocked the BL and flashed everything including KP's 2.3.4 beta 4.5.
if you follow this walkthrough exactly as posted, you shouldnt have any issues.

try fastboot
Thanks for the reply can you be a bit more clear on the procedure to be followed?
I mean, can i connect with the device in Debug USB and flash the recovery using fastboot ?
I need some tutorial about how to because I'm scared to brick the device.
Normally I do something only when I've understood what I'm doing and that's why I'm looking for info.
I've read almost all the related posts in the forum but I still feel a bit confused about the CWM update.
I rooted the device and updated the recovery using the Folio 1.4 one via ADB shell with the command: cat /data/recovery.img >/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
I do not know if this command was succesfull but I guess so because I did not receive any error.
Now I need to flash the new recovery to start working and getting familiar with that befor of flashing the Honeycomb ROM.
Thanks for the assistance
miazza
Maybe this thread helps you a little bit to find your way to the new recovery:

Thank you. Finally I managed and now I have the CWM flashed. I also learned the fastboot command. and slowly I'm learning... thanks again.

Thank you very much for your reply. Can you write more details, I am a newbie.
Wrong section this should be in q&a
You need to have fast boot installed on your pc
You need cmw zip for flyer hc
You need to place this zip in same directory as Fastboot commands
You need to get into Fastboot mode on your flyer and connect to pc
You need to open a cmd terminal on your pc and change to the directory that contains Fastboot and recovery
Then enter command
Fastboot flash recovery "name of recovery zip"
Then you should be able to get into recovery to flash a hc rom
All of these files can be found in links posted in the op of threads in flyer development. Look for an old thread by Paul obrien (or something like that) about updating to hc leaks. Everything you need should be there

[Q] CWM help

Sorry to ask but I need some help to get CWM on my Venue. I have looked at as many post as I could trying to figure it out. I can get it to say fastboot mode 2 on my Venue but I can't get any commands to work. Please do not redirect me to some other post. Any help would be appreciated.
What have you tried so far - what drivers have you downloaded & installed? We need to figure out where you are in the process and what you have done so far to help you finish.
The instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1423002 do work, with one addition. Under the "install instructions", you need to rename the CWM file downloaded to just recovery.img and put it in the same folder as your fastboot files, then when performing step 5 you can type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and it works just fine.
My fastboot download must have been corrupt but I re downloaded and worked like a charm, thanks for your reply

If you do have a GPe DO NOT FLASH AN FTF it will result in a permanent hard brick. Look for DooMLoRD's return to stock thread in GPe development section, it will return you to stock 4.4.2 and then you can let it update from there.
Thank you I will give that a try and post back results

I must apologize for giving out bad advice. Stock recovery will not allow flashing older firmware.
I think what may be possible is flashing the 4.4.4 system IMG with fastboot. Maybe @egzthunder1 or @blueether will be nice enough to offer some better advice.

Is this even possible with a locked boot loader?

Is it bootlooping or just stuck?
You should be able to flash a 4.4.4 system image
Instructions would be:
Download system_4.4.4.7z from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799423
Extract the system_4.4.4.img
Code:
fastboot flash system <path_to_system_4.4.4.img>

Its boot looping the boot animation over and over .
OK this is my first Sony phone, I'm sorta familiar with fast boot from my HTC days but its been along time
If I remember correctly I had to install android SDK and fast boot, do I need all the same in this case?
Like i said its been along time and i would be thankfull for any and all instruction given ...

Again I apologize for posting without refreshing my memory by looking up the older threads. There was two issues with my first post.
1. Stock recovery will not allow flashing older firmware as I mentioned.
2. There is an edited ota zip but it needs to be flashed with custom recovery, which I believe can only be used with an unlocked bootloader.
Hopefully fastboot flashing the system img does the trick.

Yes Windows 8 is a pain, Google for "disable driver signature verification in Windows 8" and see if that helps.

You need the whole path ex. C:\user\icotulookn\downloads\4.4.4 system img.
I am positive I found the file and was able to copy and paste the path into adb, not sure if that works for fastboot.

I havent used windows (if I can help it) for near 15 years but something like
fastboot flash system C:\system_4.4.4.img
"remote:command not allowed" is probably because of the locked BootLoader, I thought that may happen
Do you know what the fole you deleted was? you may be able to adb push it back onto the system if the GPe boots far enough.
The only other options I can think of are:
Ask Sony for a singed update.zip of the full 4.4.4 (no patch files) so it can be flashed by the stock recovery
Or use adb to do an oem unlock* - but this will wipe DRM keys and render the camera without auto focus
* You could try and run TA backup, but I think it will fail to gain root to do the back up... can you get shell access to the device? "adb shell"
Gonna suggest something off the left field, but if you have access to stock recovery... Have you tried doing a full wipe? I mean, unless ypu royally messed something up elsewhere, flashing system would give you the same end result as a full wipe.
Hopefully this helps.

Some things I am wondering.
1. Can 5.0 update be flashed in stock recovery or would.it fail due to missing files?
2. Can a kernel with recovery be hotbooted to flash the edited 4.4.2 ota?
3. Can the 4.4.4 system img be flashed with flashtool?
4. Is there a fastboot command similar to "adb devices" that will confirm it is connected properly?
I swear that I had the same error trying to return GPe to stock using WIN 8.1 laptop, on WIN 7 desktop it worked fine.

1. Yes it can but you need to place the zip file in a folder that recovery will recognize (/cache or /sd)
2. Technically yes. However, you still need to be unlocked for that AFAIK.
3. I don't see why not
4. Flashtool will confirm if you have a properly connected devices
There are two rules in life for being successful:
1. Never reveal everything you know;
2.
