Sense Froyo? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all I have stuck pretty much with Kaos Froyo ROM but I was wondering if with the upgrades to the Incredible and other releases if someone has made a SENSE Froyo ROM for the Eris?
All Sense ROMs I find appear to be still based on 2.1.
Thanks

Been asked several times. A lot of us are still hoping for some hint of dev work going on.

Its highly unlikely because all the oem froyo sense devices have higher resolution screens. There are no froyo compatible medium resolution sense roms out there to port.

Once the HTC Legend gets the offical Froyo ( Sense ) it will be ported to our devices.

Kaos has on several occasions stated he is working on one, how its coming, well he'd have to tell you that

HTC's "target" delivery date for Android 2.2 with Sense UI for the Legend is "middle September."
This has been confirmed numerous times via e-mails people have written to HTC and received responses (as recent as last week). You can search various forums to confirm that.
So, we should see the Legend get an update very soon. It could be as soon as this week, but my pessimistic outlook when it comes to updates tells me it won't happen until October.
At least it's confirmed that the update is coming. All we can do now is wait and see.

There is at least one Incredible rom with Sense for Froyo. Could we use that?

Wrong resolution. It needs to be HVGA not WVGA.

Would it be hard to change?

Apparently. The HTC Legend is supposed to get a Sense Froyo update soon I believe and when that happens the devs can port it to the Eris.

Froyo 2.2

Is it for the hero
-------------------------------------
Sent via the XDA Tapatalk App
As far as I'm aware Froyo 2.2 has only been officially released for Google's own phone (the Nexus One). However they should be releasing the source code for Froyo soon.
The HTC Hero current runs on Android 1.6 although HTC may release an update (most likely for 2.1) in the near future. Unofficially ROM developers may release Froyo as soon as they can create a stable version for the Hero.
So in answer to your question in short - no.

Umm, I just got my hero and it is running 2.1! I'm not sure, but maybe you missed the official release?

For sprint...what i'm not, but just goto your carrier website and device support for download if you don't have it. Keep in mind latest update will not allow root - you can root by re-flashing back to an earlier build without any problems.
As for 2.2 - official release from sprint for hero will take awhile. We will most likely see a fully functional port before then. There is already a port of 2.2 available in the forums - but a lot is missing such as speaker, mic, and gps!

Once HTC gets Sense UI figured out for 2.2, I'm sure it won't be long before ROMs are ported over. I highly doubt the Hero will get an official release, but HTC is not stupid. They'll know that people will expect Sense UI on their new devices, and they know that new devices will start to ship with Froyo.

No offense, but keep dreaming. They're having a painful enough of a time getting 1.6 on the HD2, your handset is far too old

And you expect an Android build of 1.5 which still won't work with wifi or sound to suddenly have everything working with 2.2?
Sorry, it's not going to happen, the Artemis is simply too old and doesn't have a large enough userbase.

Indeed, you will have to buy a new smartphone. This is the nature of technology. Even the EVO will be obsolete within a few years time.

Years? More like months, consumer tech moves on so quickly the evo will be old hat in 6 months time.
Still a few minor bugs with the Eris Froyo ROM, but it is sweet!

VillainRom (plus others?) are developing a froyo release right now, and from what I have been told its not far from a version 1 release.
Only one thing left to fix apparently.

ooh, thats really good to hear! Knowing our luck if HTC ever decide to give the Hero 2.2 it will probably be sometime in 2012
Well word has it that Google will be putting an end to phone manufacturers skinning Android when they release Gingerbread (3.0), as they plan on improving the interface. If so, that means no more Sense. It also means updating to newer versions of Android will be much quicker (as HTC don't have to make all the changes to Sense etc.) So if the Hero has the technical ability to take Android 3.0, we will most likely go from 2.1 to 3.0, and miss out 2.2.
Gingerbread is scheduled to be released Q4 of 2010. Either way, I'm due an upgrade in October/November anyway, so hopefully I'll get a new device sporting Gingerbread from release!

Meh. HTC will still need to add drivers etc. and that will give them a good excuse to take forever

sence isnt a skin, if anything its a modification to android, also google stopping manufacturers doing anything would defeat the object of android being open source lol

haha im sorta still new to all this custom rom mucking round business, i have a vague idea but probz best if sumone just explaind to me fully =D
soz for inconvenience =/
Android pushes out updates once in a while. (2.1, 2.2, 2.3 etc). Whenever this is done, HTC has to build their own "layer" on top of stock android. This layer is called HTC Sense. (typical examples are the big "phone" button on your homescreen, the 1x1 power widgets, the "grid" you see when dragging an app icon over your homescreen, the lock-screen that has to be pulled down etc).
For the Hero they stopped making sense for 2.1+, so there will be no official HTC Roms for 2.2 and 2.3.
There are however custom ROMs, that implement 2.2 or 2.3 for Hero, and some even come with HTC Sense.
In this thread there is a list of custom Hero ROMs, sorted by Sense or no-Sense http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889299
As far as I can see, the only 2.1+ ROMs that have Sense are ChocolateFroyo, Sengle, Froyo Sense.
Have a good read at which one is stable or not, because I don't know which one is.
so, to answer your initial question about the new version of Sense: I don't think they will put out a version that has the newest version (although I don't know for sure) but at least there are some custom ROMs that give you a new Android version with Hero Sense.

[Q] Htc View honeycomb custom roms?

Now that I have my view rooted I was hoping honeycomb could be a potential custom rom for it..has anyone any info on this
Well, porting is not that easy. The best place to start would be the Nook Color's Honeycomb port, the screens of the devices are same. Unfortunately, the Flyer is a brickable device, so you can't play around with it being careless. The Nook can boot an sd card, so the Nook is un-brickable. So I would wait. Wait for HTC to update it, Honeycomb is laggy anyways.
So if the flyer is brickable so is the view?....im just looking for an update for the view's current rom maybe a better bluetooth more compatable apps...
Yeah, they are brickable. I'm not a experienced dev like nickberli and i00, and have never cooked a ROM. So I'm afraid to try porting.
Well i hope someone tries ...waiting for sprint to do it would take ages
The code to Honeycomb is not open source, it will be very hard for someone to port it to the Flyer. Since the code to Honeycomb has not been released, it is not like other android releases where people can compile it for devices which the manufacturer has not bothered to make a release for. You will probably never see Honeycomb on the Flyer, IceCream is the Google intended release for devices like the Flyer.

icecream? we will never see an official version of icecream on the flyer. We'd be lucky if HTC gives us the upgrade to gingerbread 3.0. They've already got out what, 3.2 on the xoom?
Everyone needs to find there share, HTC has to modify it for our device, then they flip it over to sprint and then they modify it add their tweaks in, then they do a testing phase, etc.
I'm starting to assume that HTC and/or sprint is just about to say screw it and not upgrade out device.

Gingerbread is NOT 3.0. The Flyer is too new to be EOLed before ICS.

correct honeycomb is 3.x.x and gingerbread is 2.x.x
HTC flyer SDK supported both honeycomb and gingerbread. So...
Any idea on how to setup the HTC Flyer SDK on Mac? When I load up device "HTC Flyer" with HTC tab extension as the target, it boots into AOSP Froyo.
Which SDK? Link? Are you referring to the OpenSense SDK? I don't believe that is Flyer specific, so I would not base any conclusions on that.
Couldn't we just port the Puccini version of honeycomb? I realize its difficult to do bc the view is brickable. Just putting it out there.

The Puccini is 10" or something with a 1200 x 800 res if I recall. It would take a lot of resizing. Better wait for HTC to do it.
That's not an answer. Who here with some dev knowledge has some insight on this?

I've got a bad feeling we might never see honeycomb...its been months now and they've been silent about honeycomb...i really think (and hope not) that they've just given up on honeycomb and dedicated all there time to the puccino.
Has there been any leaked files of the puccino yet were we could start porting?
I think Honeycomb is to laggy and not worth putting on this device. Let's wait for ICS...
I'm pretty sure that we get a puccini port running on the flyer
Is there already a leaked version?

ya but they have the advantage of being more dev friendly!!! I'm very surprised given the history of HTC, they were basically making phones before any of these guys showed up. and yet there are always problems with their dev community...and make it much harder for the developers to work! I still don't think my brother has gingerbread!
makes me miss my sensation even more,,
I got the ICS update for my WiFi Motorola Xoom middle of last week. The OTA came out about 2 weeks after posts about its testing by a smaller group started popping-up on XDA.
However there are a few big differences here:
1) The Xoom was already on Honeycomb which is a lot closer to ICS than Gingerbread. Hopefully the Galaxy Nexus has developers already working on ICS compatibility. When I first got my Honeycomb tablet a year ago lots of applications had major problems on the new OS.
2) The Xoom is a Google Experience device so no manufacturer overlay to add complexity to the testing.
3) The WiFi Xooms are not tied to a wireless carrier.
My guess is these things are going to increase the test time. Hopefully not by too much. My first guess is a month - really depends on the quality of the early releases.
I thought I read somewhere that the update will be coming in February. But once it's out, and HTC is nice enough to release the stock rom, then we will start seeing stock ics roms with everything working.
HTC will always put Sense on all their roms.
Pretty sure ICS for the Amaze will have Sense, which isn't that bad. I think there are some decent widgets for Sense 3.6.
I hope with sense they won't force us to have that google search bar at the top of our screens
