Hi, Finallt am laying my N1 to rest and trying the S Vibrant. I just recevied and email from swype about the latest release. In order to install it I must first remove the current swype that comes pre-installed. I have gone into manage applications but that does not work. Is there anything I can do? Have not rooted yet. thanks
You must of signed up for the Swype beta. The latest 2.1 firmware leak contains the update for Swype.
Flash with Clockwork http://www.mediafire.com/?vwn24lrqbvjwnrt Requires root + Clockwork Recovery and this will update your Swype.
Thanks friend!

That's fine & dandy... If he was rooted which isn't the case.
Also, I read this on android central in a post pertaining to the update:
"So that there's no confusion: If Swype came pre-installed on your phone, stay away from this update. If you registered for the beta on Swype's website, and that's where you initially got Swype, you're good to go."

Why would you want to stay away from this update? I have used it since the day it was leaked and it works PERFECTLY FINE, it even works better with this new update. I signed up for Swype beta back when I used my G1. This phone comes with Swype pre-installed, the flashed package that I linked is from the leaked 2.1 ROM that is expected to release later this month. It has all the functionality that is mentioned in the new Swype update. The thing is that HE CANNOT use the Swype beta from their website because you cannot remove applications in /system/apps.
And since he is on XDA and had a Nexus One, I'm pretty positive that he is not scared of rooting and is familiar with the Android system. Rooting and unrooting is a fairly simple process.
Have not rooted yet. thanks

-- noticed how OP said YET?
The OP also said that he was unable to uninstall. If the phone comes with Swype preinstalled, why do you need Swype beta? Swype beta is for phones that don't come with Swype pre-installed. And I'm assuming the OP signed up for Swype beta to use it on the Nexus One. If the OP doesn't want to root then he will have to wait later for T-Mobile to push the OTA out which will provide the update to Swype.
You should really know what you're talking about before trying to "flame" me in the most nicest possible way. I know my Android stuff, thanks. I'm sorry but Android Central is also a user-friendly website and it isn't a website for users who always want the latest thing as soon as possible. XDA is a place for people who want 100% control over their phone, there isn't really a reason to be here if you aren't interested in rooting. Sure there are the non-development forums but the primary reason of XDA is for modding.

did u apply the update?
Tried to use it to unroot/reroot my device. About the only thing it did was mess with the superuser.apk that I had installed.
I looked at the source code from the droid X and it was trying to write directly to /system. I didn't see anything that would get around us not being able to write to /system, as they were just doing a simple remount (which does not work on this device).
Edit: Can't see the source on this one, so I don't know if its doing anything different or not.
The 1.6 version of the one click root is supposed to work, not the 1.5.3 version that's linked on the first page. I plan to give the 1.6 version a try soon... it's linked in someone's dropbox somewhere in that thread
Version 1.6.1 did not work for slide unrooted stock with ota update not sure about anyother device.
Tried Versions 1.6.1 & 1.6 with wifi initially on and initially off with no success.

no it didnt work for mine on OTA 1.35.531.1 CL216830 release keys
I don't believe the script is completing the phone restarts before the script is completed I ran all the versions of this method and only version 1.5.3 actually returns a fail message which would indicate the script completed. All other versions it doesn't return anything for some reason it just causes a reboot.

guys pls..if it works..will do only with phones currently no updated by the latest ota....
I had played with this app for a long time and just to clear confusion, the 1.6 version DID in fact work... on certain builds only... Specifically the 1.18 (ENG) and the 1.26 which is on some demo devices in the stores... Thats why there is some success... But if u have gotten to the ENG build, the tool is pointless as u can just flash a custom rooted ROM... For anyone that has done the OTA, im sorry to say, right now the only root for it is our modified exploid exploit for slide found here.... CR
I heard bout the one click wrking for driod but not for mts3g off topic anyone over clocked thear debixe yet

Hey Guys, just finished playing around with the kitchen and made a simple modification to the default espresso ROM. Unlike other Roms, this ROM does not have a lots of kernel level modifications, and lots of changes. But this ROM is just the default Rom that came with your shipped myTouch 3G Slide, except that this ROM does not have all the bloat-ware that make your phone slow and laggy. The followings features are included:
Features
======
Espresso UI
Busy-box
Rooted
SuperUser
NANO Editor
Deodexed APK Files
100% Stable (Think of it as your default rom)
Nothing that does not work.
Flash player
Cool Boot animation (Who likes that crappy tmobile boot animation? )
Eclair (2.1) [Tried Everything To Use Froyo And Make It Stable, No Luck, But I Don't Think There Is A Lots Of Stuffs Missing In Eclair)
Some Other Stuff
Removed Stuff
==========
All Crapware
HTC PDF Reader (Use Adobe Reader From Market)
HTC Twitter Client
Stocks
Stocks Widget
Tmobile Visual Voicemail (Get It From Market If Needed)
Tmobile My Account (Same as above)
Amazon MP3
AppPack Tmobile
All other crapware that makes your phone laggy.
As far as i know, there is nothing that doesn't work (Played it with for few days to see if something is wrong). Proximity sensor, wifi, bluetooth, keyboard, all the keys, touch screen, and almost everything works perfectly. Please let me know if something doesnt work.
How to install
=========
First root your phone using this method or this method.
Then put the zip file in your sd card and go to clockwork recovery. Then just install the zip file as you would do with every other rom.
If you dont get what i am saying, check this.
Please let me know if something does not work. THanks
[I am not an android developer, just a simple guy [and a bit of java programmer] ]
I dont think Tmobile is going to give us Froyo within this Dec 15th as rumored by a lots of sites. But for now, lets stay happy with eclair and lets hope they will send the updates soon.
Download ROM
GUYS, PLEASE DONT DOWNLOAD OR LEAVE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK ABOUT THIS ROM BECAUSE THIS WASNT MEANT TO BE A ROM THAT EVERYONE SHOULD USE, I MADE IT FOR MY OWN PERSONAL USE AND JUST WANTED TO SHARE HERE SO THAT AT LEAST SOMEONE MIGHT BE SEARCHING FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS. MODS --> IF YOU THINK THIS IS INAPPROPRIATE OR SHOULD NOT BE HERE, I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SEE THIS THREAD IN THRASH FORUM (DELETED)

What's nano editor, a text editor?
I think Fenix made a rom similar to this. Using 1.35 deodexing it, etc

Yeap nano is a terminal text editor. That means that if you want to edit some config file or text file in recovery mode or somewhere using adb shell, you can [I think it is better than vi]

THIS is an OTA rom.
OTA brought the retail system (1.27.531) to 1.35.531 and updated the radio as well. If you're linking me to the correct Espresso zip that you used, you've based you rom on outdated system software.
Please correct me if I'm wrong. Has someone flashed this that can check their About this Phone section of settings to see which system version this is?

That is the latest we can use, because the latest ota does not allow flashing unsigned packages, so even clockworkmod wont work there. but you can always install the rom first and install the update.zip for the new ota (that is if you find one) . good luck

Fast and functional. I'm thankful for a new rom to use. Outdated is not an issue. I still load donut on people's G1's when they want stable root. Either way thanks for contributing....I could live without the negative comments.

Pointing out that the starting-point of this rom is outdated and potentially buggy is hardly a negative comment. It's a statement of fact that isn't mentioned anywhere in the first post. People should be aware of what they are flashing.
Improvements included with this update are as follows:
1. Battery Life:
Updates to the T-Mobile online contact backup connection, which will improve battery life.
2. Wi-Fi:
Ability to send MMS messages when connected to Wi-Fi.
3. Genius Button improvements:
Ability to turn GPS on and off using your voice, such as “Turn GPS on.”
Will announce Caller ID for incoming voice calls and allow you to “Answer” or “Ignore” using your voice.
Will announce incoming text messages and allow you to “reply” with dictation.
4. Faves Gallery improvements:
The Faves icon will be displayed beside notifications that appear while the device is locked to indicate that the communication is coming from one of your Faves.
Fave photo display speed will be enhanced.
General stability will be improved, including more seamless scrolling and consistent display of photos

My CDMA Evo3d is rooted and I'm wondering what rom would be the most like the HTC factory stock Rom that is updated with the most recent OTA updates? I've been trying to wait for Cyanogen but I don't want to try an alpha or even a beta version (not because I'm scared or anything, I just want everything pretty much in working order and I'm fairly happy with the stock experience except for not being able to update.)

Oh, I appreciate that suggestion and I will 2nd it! It is the ROM I run myself!
Heres a direct link: [ROM] joeykrim-original-1.2.0 Odex *Stock Rooted 2.08.651.2*
My goal was the same as yours, keep the experiece identical to stock with the addition of root and busybox and a few other small developer linux binaries in the /system/xbin directory. the additions I made will not impact the performance of Android at all as they are never used, unless the user specifically requests them.
Hope that helps and appreciate the support!
This one was available within hours of us getting s-off and is what I've been using. No issues and had been rock solid for me.

I'm thinking on installing NottachTrix4G on my ATT Atrix. It's currently rooted, and unlocked, running 4.5.91.

Thanks
Welcome to the forums! Read the actual thread for Nottachtrix. The developer is very much so respected, and has a huge number of fans that use his ROM, your best bet is to just give it a shot and use it for a day or two to see if you like it. Don't forget to nandroid back up your current setup before wiping anything that way you you can very easily switch back if you are dissatisfied. All it takes is a SEARCH, figured I would be the nice one before you get flamed with a million "Use search!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" replys

There is some info about Nottach Trix on here:

I moved from Wet Dream to Nottachtrix. So far, I've found the rom to be completely solid, all features working as advertised and without glitches on my end. At whatever point he releases his compatible ICS theme, I'll be a very happy camper.
About the most painless way to get up to 4.5.141, I'd say!

Unlocked bootloader, rooted, the dev post says Wet Dream was 4.5.140. Had to back up apps and SMS data, obviously, but you don't have to "get your phone back to stock" in order to flash this rom -- just make a nandroid backup and give it a shot.

Its very nice rom the wayt it comes and you can choose what you want to add or remove its really great you should try it.
You can also go in and freeze more processes as well and right now man i got about 520 mb free and scoring around 6300 on antutu.
Its not like cm7 builds but you can use webtop and an alternative if you want to stack stock mainly for me its because i use my webtop.
try it it's pretty cool
I thought wet dream was awesome, this ROM is even better. I just downloaded it today and no complaints.
+1 for you to download.

I accidentally hit the update option when it popped up on the screen instead of hitting later. Then I the wifi off on my phone and that prevented the update from being downloaded. I tried to do a couple of things to prevent it from downloading
1. Freezing Upgrader 2.3.4 using TiBu - This did not work.
2. Using CWM - Cleared cache etc and this did not do the trick either.
So, I finally gave up and used UncleCemka's guide to upgrade to 4.5.141 (2.3.6) and it was successful.

Yes. It'll work fine. It doesn't mess with the webtop partition, so you'll need to re-do the HDMI exploit or flash the 2.3.6 webtop fruitcake which has that fix worked in.

Here you go. It's the Fruitcakes thread over in the dev forum.
now: you took the OTA update, which I'm pretty sure updated your webtop as well. The webtop fruitcake says 4.5.140; this may or may not be precisely the same version as your current one. With that in mind, I might try redoing the webtop-over-HDMI hack first since it's a pretty simple procedure and keeps your current version intact.
Hi all,
I'm supposed to be on the soak test for the 6.16.211 soak and when I try and install it, it tells me the update failed. I obviously had rooted and frozen all the bloatware, so I unfroze all of that and thought that would fix the problem. After that didn't work, I remembered that a few months ago, I had installed the swype beta over the stock swype app on the razr. I literally have spent hours pouring over everything else trying to figure out if anything else is not stock and I've come to the conclusion that the swype beta is the only difference. So my question: Is there anyway to get back to the stock swype without reflashing 6.12.181? I have a sneaking suspicion that this is the only way possible, but I just want someone with a bit more experience to verify my thoughts.
Another question would be: is there anyway to upgrade to the 6.16.211 leak without first fixing the swype issue?
thanks guys!

It is possible, I did it when going from 2.3.5-2.3.6. To have installed the Swype Beta you needed to delete some of the files for the built in Swype.
\system\app\swype.apk
\data\dalvik-cache\[email protected]@[email protected]
\system\lib\libSwypeCore.so
All you need are these 3 files from someone with the stock GB, then simply replace them. I would do it now but I'm a little busy, but I'm sure someone on here is helpful!
Just to note - Swype Beta can now be installed along side pre-installed Swype!
