[Q] Contact list import from iPhone? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Any ideas on this? Surely there's an easier way than manually inputting them all.
Thanks in advance.

I don't have an iPhone myself, but I do have a few friends locked down in Steve-Jobs-Land, so I've had to deal with this before given I'm unofficial tech support for everyone I know.
How to Sync Yahoo! and Google Contacts With Apple's Address Book
Alternately you can export your itunes address book as a .csv file and use Gmail's import feature as the above either works or doesn't in my experience..

export to csv and then import to google...
sorry to tell you that, but that was the way i found is the only way to go. there is an app in the market (forgot the name), which made me wipe in the end, as it made my hero crash constantly. afaik this is a general problem with that app and the hero. forgot the name of the app, sorry.

use autostarts or startup auditor from market, both paid. i use startups, works great, not only for boot but also for other triggers which could start apps.

good luck, but keep in mind you have to do the csv thinggy only once, so before you search 4 hours for a solution bite the apple and take that 20 minutes to do the csv procedure...
1) The app kendong2 is referring to is called 'Export Contacts' and I've got it working fine on MCR3.0 with no crashes etc.
The process for me was pretty simple. Exported csv of contacts, opened it in notepad on PC to check it, closed it without saving and uploaded it to Google. Google even helped to 'consolidate' entries where I already had a gmail address for someone, and offered to put the gmail address alongside the phone contact details.
Try this. As kendon says, it only needs done once. Then you can uninstall the app. You also get the benefit that even if you wipe or lose the phone, just put your gmail details in on install and all your contacts appear again by 'magic'
Sorry, can't help with calendar issue. Does Hero support shared calendars?
Any other questions, just ask
HTH
sorry is wasn't clear on that, what i meant:
there is an app that converts the phone contacts to google contacts, which didn't work for me. and from what i read it has a general problem with the hero...
idk about an app to export to csv (i did it with outlook), but that should work fine, as it does only READ the phonebook on the hero, which shouldn't have much potential for crashes

Google Contatcs on the NOOK now working

While most everything works from the rooting process equal to the phone I was not able to import all my google contacts only a handful will import into the Nook (NC). After many tries I found a work-a-round.
Save the contacts in google to (outlook type) CVS file and place it on the external sdcard. Download Navdress Book (the only one of many I tried) and import the contacts.
I still have a very small issue with my screen having everything bump up to the edges, while everything is there just no space around the sides. I am sure I will find some screen font/resolution way to make everything look better. Even if not this is so way cool to use over my Vibrant, as much as I enjoy the screen sharpness the NC is faster (hard to believe)...and larger screen....so I find I read and surf more on it then my phone now. Also being able to connect the NC to the phone I do not need to worry about wifi.
As I was going to get the SamsungTab, yet with their POOR support and software updates I was holding off until next year to see if otherS had a better tab, now I do not need to!
The phone is a phone, searching and maps tool, whereas the NC is a web-surf, email, reader, games, etc. Guess as I write this I would be open to 2/3rd the NC size (about 5" to 6 " thin) tab that had everything the NC and Vibrant has in one package. A "BEST of Both Worlds" kind of wish. Small and light enough to do it all...Hey it is a new year folks...
does this allow you to select contacts within google voice or a mail program? the reason i ask is it seems like a standalone contacts program.
i exported everything to a vcard file and used a program called 'import contacts' to get everyone on my phone (edit - scratch that: my nook). they don't all show up in my contacts app but they can be selected in google voice, k9, etc now. woohoo

Sadly no just have them available to lookup. Not sure what you are referring to about the phone. I have no problem with the Vibrant and Google, just the NC does not bring in nor allow contacts to be selected in gmail, that I have found. Read and reply works just not contacts lookup...
However, I can goto the WEB interface and reach gmail/contatcs and send that way. Can not use the gmail app on the NC unless I type in the full email address, kind of a drag unless replying is all I was pointing out.

that's what i meant. i meant nook, not phone this will make it to where you can actually select contacts.
Edit: just added this to the wiki: Making contacts work
So, what do you do once you have all your contacts on the Nook? Can't call them ... can't launch an email to them ... it's just a glorified address book at that point isn't it?

Using the method I posted, you can actually start typing their email address or name, etc and it will show up.

Sweet - worked like a charm.
... By the way, to get a vcard of your contacts, go to gmail on web, click on contacts on the left side, more actions, export, and choose vcard.

After importing the contacts into Navdress, I found I was able to choose a contact, select the individual contact icon and the email address would automatically load into email program of my choice (K9 for me). Another option. Going the vcard route would not work for some reason.
Thanks here.david and jadambpharm for figuring this out. Have either one of you explored sending emails to groups? I have tried a number of group contact apps without any success. Thanks again.
Thanx for the post here.david
I also found this method on nookdevs and it worked really well,

Yes that is correct. I mainly use my nook for email and have a number of different distribution groups that I send a mass email to. Thanks (sent from Texas).

Cool! Does this stay in sync with your Google Contacts, or is it a manual process to sync them?

I have just tested with my nook and two mail apps, gmail and maildroid(i find it more convinient) and it works fine.
the testing procedure was following:
1. Call up phonebook app, find your contact, press on it and if contact has e-mail press email button and select your app to compose message.
2. Call up gmail app, begin typing contact name or email and drop down list appears matching to the keyword and select your contact.
3. Call up maildroid and do same steps at p.2.
All works fine
Note: p.2 and 3 are possible without any contacts manager app, it is available just after importing contacts from soocial account.
I have no groups of contacts thats why i cant test with groups, sorry...

[Q] How to copy and/or export Facebook contacts?

Is there a way to export all Facebook friends profile and contact info from the built in contacts app? Either to CSV, Vcard or even directly into Google?
you cannot as far as I'm aware. I researched it extensively a while back.

S Planner Issue - No participants visible

Hi,
My girlfriend has just got a Samsung Galaxy S3 on Orange. Whenever she adds an event in the S Planner and tries to select a Participant the contact list is empty but if she load the Contacts application or logs onto GMail from the web they are all there. Anyone come across this before? I've tried clearing the S Planner data and re-syncing but it hasn't made any difference.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanks for the response. I've tried that but it made no difference.
Do the contacts have email addresses attached to them?
Thanks -moe- that did the trick! She had associated an e-mail address with a contact on her previous phone but it obviously hadn't synced with her Google account. Adding an e-mail address to a contact means it is now visible in Participants in the Calendar.
Thanks for your assistance.

[Q] How to create offline contact groups on ICS?

Hello,
(I have already searched about this on forum, but didn't get a proper answer. So I am writing it down here.)
I have an issue with the "people" (contact) app of ICS.
I am being asked to make an account to make contact groups, which unfortunately I can't allow!
I can understand that you might not think this being an issue but can you please suggest about making
offline contact groups without making an account.
I hope you guys will help.
I am running on rooted phone with cyanogen mod.
Thank you.
I used an app called "Import Contacts" to import a .vcf file from my previous phone on gingerbread to the new one running 4.2.1.
This app imported it into local contacts.
But, if you want to manually add a new contact, you are still left facing the same problem.
I haven't figured a way around it.

Thank you for your help.
I already have contacts installed.
My issue is with creating groups from them.
As phone asks to create an account to do so.
That's where I am stuck.
I mean there must be a way to make contact groups without adding an account!
I really wish to have that option.
This is something I have never thought about as I am sure that most of us out there using android phones usually create an account in order to do what you can't... but I have to admit that it would be really great if creating contact groups without internet can be possible!
Found anything yet, anyone?
Hi!
I just came across this thread through Google when searching "use groups without google account". I think it's ridiculous to need a Google account to use use groups, I mean, it's a feature that has been on most "not even smart" phones for a while now. It would be really good to know if there's a way to have groups without creating / adding an account and without the need of third party apps.
Does anyone have a solution for this?
Thanks
