Videoplayer - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Is there a good videoplayer? the one preinstalled doesn't play AVI

Rockplayer seems to play just about anything you throw at it.
Not sure if it's available in the x10 mini stock market place but i'm sure's there's an .apk floating about.
other than that the best thing to do is to just convert all your stuff to .mp4. Takes up less space and it's certain to play..

I'm sorry my dansk friend but i'm not certain what you mean.
mencoder will convert most things...
here's a one liner that i found on another board (Linux/osX only):
Code:
mencoder "$2" -o "$2.tmp.mp4" -vf dsize=480:352:2,scale=-8:-8,harddup -oac faac -faacopts mpeg=4:object=2:raw:br=128 -of lavf -lavfopts format=mp4 -ovc x264 -x264encopts nocabac:level_idc=30:bframes=0:bitrate=512:global_header:threads=auto:subq=5:frameref=6:partitions=all:trellis=1:chroma_me:me=umh

its cause of the missing hardware decoders... in anycase u can try software-mode players like RockPlayer... there is also a thread regarding alternatives to RockPlayer...

divx or xvid (mpeg4 visual) can be played by x10 and almost all smartphones, BUT .avi extension is the one who the phone can't play.
just mux into mp4 your avi file (without recompress, take about a minute) with a program like YAMB or staxrip and your x10 will can play perfectly this file with movie player or meridian
I think he means, why can't it play them smoothly.
Yes, we can, just mux avi video an m4a audio into mp4 container without recompress the video and playback will be smoothly

Best movie player for atrix?

What is the best video player that works on atrix? I tried QQ and V Player and they both fail pretty hard. V player won't even open anything
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
I ve only used one since I had the atrix and it plays all of my movies flawless that's "rockplayer lite" I don't know which is the best because it's the only one I tried but I will stick with it since it works.

Check out Vital Player.
arcMedia has worked very well for me, handles .avi files and doesn't afraid of anything..
edit: I tried to post a link but lurking has its disadvantages. Search "arcmedia" in the market and you should find it ezpz
I personally use doubletwist and that does music and video so that's what I use

I use mVideo Player. It works great with added feature of specifying your video folder, adding subtitles from the web and downloading Poster pics for your converted videos. Plays .m4v,mp4, or .mak formats which are the only ones I use.

This. I use the stock video player for everything (I just convert the videos...it takes 10 seconds) but if I use an app to download a youtube video that doesn't play natively VitalPlayer can do it.
I agree with Vital Player. Just grabbed it and it works great.

What do you use to convert the videos?
I use handbrake with the normal preset setting modified only for screensize.

Same as circuit, but you have to make sure to use FFMpeg since the Atrix doesn't play high-profile H.264. Plays perfectly though if you transcode in FFMPeg even up to 1080p and 5,000kbps or higher. Doesn't seem to phase it at all.
i use rockplayer and it works pretty solid. plays anything i downloaded from the internet.

this is strictly converter for iPhone, and it doesn't do .avi files. I use FormatFactory to convert my videos, it's a very powerful app and support many formats.

It reads everything I have thrown at it so far. If I want XVID though I use xvid4psp.

No handbrake is not only for iphone, its for mpg4. So its perfect for transcoding to .mp4 or containers like *.mkv. I use it all the time and it works great if you make your own presets. Heck even the presets for iphone work great if you don't mind the scaling.
Do these converters retain sub titles? I wish we didn't have to convert anything. When I had the Galaxy Tab that thing played everything I threw at it with no conversions.

With handbrake you can hard sub or multi lang sub. But im not sure how well different players will work with muti lang subs. VLC needs to get a native android app with gpu and smp decoding asap!
Rockplayer iprettyawsome even plays mkv

I run Rock Player Lite. It plays .avi files flawlessly and that's the majority of my vids. Also the default Entertainment via hdmi works wonders.
MoboPlayer is the best
I have a bunch of video players each with its own set of features. MoboPlayer is excellent. It shows you video list screenshots, it reads off the external SD card, it plays all formats, it has onscreen controls, there are onscreen controls to size the screen, it is fast and colors are good. The only thing it does not do is play videos in the background. I believe Meridian Player does that.

Problem Playing Movies!!

Ok for last couple of days i've been trying to play movies on my x10. I've tried many players from the market and so far the results are:
Stock Player: Couldn't start/play any of the file.
Arc Media: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
Soul Movie: This video cannot be played! Please contact to the phone maker!
mVideoPlay: Sorry, this video cannot be played.
QQPlayer: Starts but wouldn't play anything (Force close when trying to go back)
MX Video Player: Starts well, loads subtitles and goes on for 5-10 mins with a little lag (which is fine for me) then starts to lag like hell and then video goes out of sync.
The video I'm trying to play is a BRrip, resolution is 1280x528 and is in mp4 format. (HD music video's I've downloaded from youtube seems to work fine with any player which is in same resolution) Some other movies in .avi format and lower resolution would play in some of that player but lags like hell.
NOTE: I've tried to set different settings of different player such as hardcoding and softcoding but they didn't work.
Any suggestion guys??
So only that BRrip doesn't play? You say youtube vids are ok...
Try Vplayer Pro, it works smoothly in my phone, so far i havent meet lags when playing any vids.

Ough..BRip in MP4..you mean in MP4 extention, isn't it..
Try to convert it to 720p resolution and change the Video Codec to Mpeg4 H264..
Can't play coz the resolution is not support by the player/phone..I guess..

No need of any conversion buddy, install mobo player from Market. Its free app. It actually plays anything u throw at it. Using it for over five months now. Plays even youtube .flv HD files flawlessly (Make sure the resolution is 720 or less). All the best...
Convert it to the same res as the x10, rather than letting the x10 do it on the fly. Your bound to get better results.
Try Mobo player. Plays any format and supports subtitles in .srt format. It would be nice to have option to change audio tracks in dual-audio files but at least works flawlessly.

Ok guys I tried mobo player it works, I mean it plays the file but it lags and gradually goes out of sync. This time the file was even in lower resolution. But convert seems to work fine. Now im gonna try different movies in different resolution and check which works and which not. Then I'll let u guys know. But in the mean time can u guys suggest me some good converter for x10? And the settings for those converter. I use Avs converter but its slow as hell.
Oh and guys I'm on cm7, just so u know.

MP4 is a simple format and can be easily played on our x10 on 720p(1280x576,1280x720)
MKV is used in Blu-rays now a days...
It can have many audios like a movie in 2 languages...
I play it in my x10 dual audio 720p...
The main thing is use doomkernel and overclock to 1228Mhz in interactive mode use MX video player.
Sorry if it sounds noobish but how do I use doomkernel and overclock in enteractive MODE?

I'll never understand why people want to watch 720p on a non-hd device. It's only eating up your resources.
Whether or not you can play videos depends on bitrate mostly but there are other reasons vids won't play. Just because 1 720p movie works doesn't mean they all will.

Video Files

Ok am rooted and have Android Market. Downloaded Mplayer but I have some movies that the wife wants on the NT (Harry Potter). Most are AVI format as I ripped them from DVD's. Will the NT play those with Mplayer or should I change them to Mp4's.

They should play.
Use mx player it will play avi, xvid, divx, without issue. It supports many other formats as well.
You can either use what the above posters have suggested or change them to mp4.
Thanks guys never tried MXplayer but I will load it up.
I have couple avi video files won't play, and then some will play just fine. I wonder if it's because the resolution isn't right or not.

Resolution shouldn't be an issue the way the avi was encode could be. Are using the stock player because its just ok not great. Try mxplayer its pretty close to great if not great. Some mvk will studder over wifi but other than that it play anything I throw at it.

Ok still having some wierdness. Got MX Player you guys using Hardware or Software modes. I seem to be having issues with it in hardware mode. I re-ripped all the Harry Potter dvd's for the wife and some play and some dont. I ripped them all as MP4 just to be safe.

I have MX player installed, and i could only play about 50% of my avi. I'll probably have to look into the ones that play, and comparing to the ones that don't, and see if something stands out.
>I have MX player installed, and i could only play about 50% of my avi.
AVI is a container format that has been hacked to contain streams that it was never designed to contain. Better PC players can accommodate the hacks, but the Android ones can't.
Fix: Install MKVToolnix. Drop in the AVI, click Start Muxing. 10 secs later, you get an MKV that works.

Converting video files to play on tablet

I have an off-name tablet from eBay running Gingerbread and having problems getting video files to play on it. No matter what i use/encode, i get an error saying "Sorry, this video cannot be played."
What is the recommended file type/encoding settings i should be converting to for Android devices?
is it a cheap $100-150 tablet? Those have a lot of problems. The video may be to high quality. I recommend 480p vids. Either that or reset the tablet. Or it may be to cheap to play anything. Sorry, try the low quality video, does YouTube work?
Thank me if I helped!
try using a different video player like VLC.
