Coming from a Blackberry, I used to use "Phone Only Mode" (Phone only goes off, if and when, it is a phone call) Is there any app or widget that can accomplish this? At night E-mail notifications and Facebook constantly wake me up. I would put it on silent, but I don't want to miss any important calls. Thanks in advance for any help on this matter,
Russ
Look for any apps that set up profiles by time. That should help u. Like from so and so time till the morning shut everything down but ringtone

Thanks I'll look into it.
I use AudioManager to quickly turn down the notifications and/or ring tones all from a single slider screen, but there are several similar apps that will allow you to set up sound profiles and quickly change via location (Locale) or via a widget.

Just disable the auto sync of data. then only the phone works,,,
I've been using bedside for 2 years and it rocks. You can setup white lists for texts, calls or whatever.
I love Tasker. It does cost a small bit but the customizable profiles are awesome. If you just want something for use at night, bedside may be good enough, but definitely look into Tasker if you want to automate anything else (for example,I have it set to start the GPS when I launch Google maps and to shut it off when I exit.

Welcome!
I noticed in the wiki or forum (somewhere!) that they were able to set up a profile that remapped the camera button -- I am wondering if this can be used to remap the power button while the camera app is open, maybe?
So I haven't had much time to play with Tasker, but the two scripts I have currently running:
* Silence from 11pm > 8am, simple, but it replaced the other 'profiles' type apps
* Disable screen rotation when in the Kindle app, for whatever reason this isn't an option in the Kindle app itself.
I have it set to turn on my Bluetooth when plugged in and off when unplugged works great!

Fantastic! I need to set up a (again, simple!) task that will turn on bluetooth in the times that I am always in my car (commute to work and home, same time every day) which won't be difficult.
I have Locale already, but this may replace it (gotta love paying for apps to find out another one does 10000x more things! oops!) I've had Locale since first getting my G1 though, so it's gotten plenty of use.
So glad you posted about this app... its amazing..

I have a couple tasks set up. First, I have gps automatically turn on and off when entering and exiting google maps. I also have one that lets me pick input style when I go into or leave remotedroid (swype's backspace doesn't work in it). And I have a couple apps that like to hang around after I close them, so I set them to be killed upon closing.
All in all it's a great app, well worth the $6.

Also worth noting is that it is £3.49 from the developer directly (paypal, via his website) and a larger % goes direct to him that way.
I have it setup for text to speech on SMS messages when my phone connects to my cars bluetooth.
I am trying to find a way to let my replay to said SMS with the voice to text feature or just ignore it. Anyone have any idea how to accomplish that?
Also think it would be cool to have it change my wallpaper based on the weather conditions in my area, but Im not sure how to go about doing that either.

Tasks that I've set up so far:
Silent / dim screen / timeout / alarm volume 7 while I am asleep (timed task)
Vibrate / auto brightness / timeout (slightly longer) while at work (timed task)
Bluetooth on while in my car (timed task -- specificlly during the hours of my work commute)
Load Vlingo when Bluetooth connects, Kill Vlingo when BT disconnects
GPS on when Maps, Navigation and Foursquare are opened
Display timeout (1hr) and brightness (max) when USB plugged in (for when i am in my car, typically listening to music and/or have vlingo up on the screen, annoying (and worthless) for the display to timeout if vlingo is supposed to be a one-touch process!)
Anyway of exporting a profile then importing it so some of the more advanced useres can create some and we can tweak them ?
Edit: Having hard time getting them to do what i want .
Probably, but I am not entirely sure how... lol
My initial use:
As previously mentioned on this board the bluetooth streaming volume is not the loudest, so I always end up turning up the volume for bluetooth. Then when I plugin my headphones I destroy my eardrums.
So I setup a task that when I connect to my bluetooth car stereo, it automatically sets the volume to max and turns off wifi for good measure.
I have another task that when I plugin headphones, it sets the volume to 60% and opens the doubletwist music player.
Finally I setup the standard battery task so that when my battery gets to 20% it turns of all the GPS, wifi, and bluetooth radios, as well as dimming my screen.

I have two keyboards i really like in 2 different orientations.
Droid X keyboard:
its sweet autocorrections and large real estate makes it ideal for two thumb typing in landscape
swype:
slower than droid X keyboard in landscape, but in portrait, this is possibly the fastest/most accurate keyboard around.
I tried to set it up so that i could change my keyboards depending on the orientation, but i could not figure it out
im also for an app that turns your screen off with a timer (in the background). and have that work when you turn your screen downward./
any with either of these would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone know how to make it so that the Incall volume goes up to max on the connect of the phone call? I cant seem to find it in the settings meeting seems to only answer on 3/4 volume. Thought Tasker might be able to .
This app is awesome. I only got a few tasks setup but one nice one is turning the screen timeout to 23hr when I open the web browser and back to 30 secs when I exit.

To export a profile tap the context (left) icon <profile<export. To import just open the file with Tasker as the chosen program I think. lots of premade tasks on the Tasker wiki. (it won't let me post a link)
I had an old phone that had 3 or 4 different styles of vibration that you could set to different forms of communication. This came in very handy as I could tell immediately if the vibration was for an incoming call or just a text.
I can't find that feature on the Streak anywhere. THere is only one vibrate style. Would someone (smarter than me) be willing to look into ways to create different vibrate settings?
ie:
loooooooong short looooooong.
constant.
short short short.
This way even if the phone is hanging out in your back pocket on vibrate all day (like mine mostly is) while you are talking to customers, you know if it is something you can leave alone or if it is something you should check immediately.
You can this with Tasker, trigger it so that when a notification comes from another app then run a particular sequence of vibrations. I use it to give a vibrating alert to Bugme which has a sound and popup but no vibrating alert of it's own. If the app has a built in alert I guess you would just turn it off and use tasker to run the sequence you like. Tasker can look a little complicated at first but is very useful even to non-programmers like myself.

Another option I use is to use handcent or chompsms you can customize your vibrate pattern for texts that way.

Hey folks, question. Now it's driving me nuts how the notification and ringer volumes are connected now in ICS where as before we had the option to unlink them. I get emails all through the night but I can't turn my notifications down at night because it turns down the ringer, can't have that.
Anyone know of a way to break the link or am I just going to have to deal with it?
This seems to be a common issue with the ICS leaks. Unfortunately, I don't think any of the ROM developers have split them yet.
Very interesting.... I'll dig into it and see if we can't come up with a solution...

I've tried 4 different apps to solve this prob and none work right. I use sound manager to turn off notifications at night but leave ringer on, but i can't get it working with those apps.
Hopefully its an easy fix to unpair them.

I've been using Audio Manager app to control my volumes, you can set schedules when volume levels are to be changed, I never had to do anything manually. I have enough stuff going on everyday don't need another thing to remember to do before passing out, lol. Good idea though, if it gets too bad I may have to give that a go.
Bought ICS Enhanced Ringer control from the market - $2.99.
It duz separate the ringer/notification link however it must be manually enabled/disabled.
I'm hoping the dev adds a scheduler, or a widget to make it easier to enable.
Either way, it works and solves the problem.
Hi there,
I just want to share that for ICS there is a tool on the market which can disable notifications at night, while still the ringer is "enabled", not muted.
Problem with ICS is that notification volume is directly linked to ringer volume. When you manually disable notifications, you will never hear your phone ring....which can be bad.
So:
In case I don't want to hear notifications at night, but incoming calls will ring as normal I use the following tool (free from market) :
"ICS notification silencer free"
With the free edition you can only define 'one' profile, with a start and end time when to disable notifications (example:sleeping time).
With the paid version you can define more profiles, depending on day etc.
I liked the free edition already as it has enough features just to disable notification when I am asleep.
Hope you enjoy this tool, and sleep well on ICS
Br.
Michel
Another solution
Ive been dealing with this since ICS first came out, and its been driving me nuts.
I need no text notifications at night, but the phone needs to ring if someone calls.
I tried ICS ringtone control and ICS Silencer. ICS ringtone didnt have a scheduler so I had to set it manually every night.
For the last week Ive tried Profile Scheduler and its worked perfectly. I assume other profile apps would work too, so
check them out.
Heres what I did. Create/download a silent ringtone mp3 - I named mine "Silence - 30sec". I then went under the
"Night" profile and made the notification sound that ringtone, and left all the volumes the way they are. I then created
a rule activating that profile from 10p-7a. I then changed 'conditions not met' to the normal profile, to change it back to
normal when its done. Under the normal profile, I made my ringtone my original one.
Good luck, and until ICS unlinks the sliders, this has worked best for me.

I have flashed 5 different ROMs, and the only one (HTC Evo4G LTE) that separates them is CM10.
I ran it for a bit, but switched back to ViperRom, and use Phone Schedule app to simply change the ringtone
for my notification sounds, at whatever time I need.
I have a silent ringtone, and use it for notification sounds between 9p and 7a, and then it automatically
switches back to a audible music ringtone.
Hope this helps.

I think they did it so when you turned the ringer volume up or down, the notification volume would go up our down accordingly, which is desirable behavior. But it is annoying if you need them to be controlled separately.

I am having this problem with my phone. Every time I set the phone ring volume, after a while (30-60 minutes) I suddenly hear my phone vibrate and then it automatically on its own goes into silent mode with silent icon appearing in the top bar. It is very annoying to keep checking my phone to see if it has not gone into silent mode.
Any idea what may be causing this. I cannot find in anything in the settings to enable or disable this.

I am getting tired of my phone automatically turning the ringer off and going into silent mode after emitting a short pulse vibration (like in notification) while sitting on my desk every few hours.

There is a settings tweak in the Power Save mode to toggle vibrations. I think the default is no vibrations.
I will give this a try now.

Thank you for the tip. I want to say that I love this phone....however, given its rounded back shape, the vibration was especially loud and annoying. I had been looking for ways to disable all vibration but didn't realize the power saving mode was the culprit. Now, I wont jump out of my chair every time I get a notification. Thank you again for putting my nerves at ease!

Hello Team ,

I am facing the below problem :
My phone automatically went silent mode. i faced these type of problem since 1 week .
If any one face the same problem , please help me to solve the concern.
I am currently having this same issue with my U11. It`s very annoying when I miss calls and notifications!!!!!
My Verizon S4 is set to vibration mode (sound turned down/off)
In the options for gmail, facebook, and hangouts I have notifications turned on, but the vibration is off (unticked), BUT I still get vibrations when an incoming email, message, or notification comes along.
Anyone know how to override this issue? Are there external apps that can fix it? I only want my phone to vibrate when I get phone calls or text messages.
I have searched and found nothing.
Does no one else have this problem? It's driving me nuts!
I have the issue but mine only affects my enhanced Email app running Yahoo. Going to try uninstalling that and just use default email app, see if that helps.
Anybody find a solution to this yet????

because you have it in vibration mode. all notifications are vibrate when in vibration mode, even when you have vibration turned off in the apps.

This is not a bug but an annoying change Google made as of Android 4.2. Basically anything with a notification is supposed to vibrate when the phone is in vibrate mode regardless of the app setting although the app needs to support it. There is no fix but CM10.1 has the ability to revert this behavior.

Sorry for digging up this Thread, but this is not acceptable for me.
My S3 is always on Silent/Vibrate - Mode. In this case, Hangouts isn't usable for me. I have to disable all hangouts notificitaions, or my phone would vibrate almost all of the time.
So, is there any workaround available, so far?
I've allready tried to revoke permissions for vibration from hangouts and G+ via "App Settings" (Xposed module), but that didn't work. :/
Any solution would be great. Otherwise I have to go back to 4.1.2.
Best regards,
Marcus

You can try to manually turn off the vibration in the sound settings. settings<my device<sounds<vibration intensity
Change the slider of anyone of them that needs to be changed (from what I can tell you just want the notification vibration to be turned off so slide that one all the way to the left).
Let me know how this go.
Thx for your reply. But this will turn off Vibration for all notifications, won't it? I just want to turn it off for Hangouts because I receive lots of messages there and it's pretty annoying to have a phone on your pocket, that is vibrating all the time. I also have an app, that comes along with the OmegaROM, called "Notifications Mangaer" But changes there doesn't take effect. :/

That is the only way I know, other than the notifications manager. I know what you means too, I also hate the annoying vibration all the time and it waste battery life. I got tired of looking for a way around it and just turned off the notification vibration.

Thats not bad as an temporarily soliution. It hits me on an idea:
Lets perfection this and create a 1s long, silent track and set it as ringtone. That should work as well.
But even this cant be the final solution. There must be a way to prevent hangouts from vibrating, although global settings force vibration. It worked in the past as well, so why not on above 4.1.2 versions?
Same problem with S5 Mini
I got the same problem on m S5 Mini - it's driving me crazy! Why should I want apps to vibrate in vibration mode, when i don't want the to vibrate in general - when I turn off vibration in the app settings?!
I wake up every night because of notifications from facebook or emails..
I just want whatsapp and phone calls to vibrate!
I came from HTC devices (Desire, Sensation, Sensation XE) and never had this problem before.
It's also annoying that I can't change the notifications volume together with the ringtone volume, but have to seperately adjust the slider
Any solutions without root would be great
