I screwed up, flasing stuck at 0%; help! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I really screwed up.
I wanted to update my phone to the latest Energy version, and during the flashing process, absent-mindedly thinking about continuing the setup sitting at the couch (as opposed to the computer), I detached the phone.
Now, when I turn it on, it just says "Software update failed! Please try again.", but I cannot access the coloured bootloader.
If I try to update again (or even do task29) everything goes fine, till the progress bar appears, which is stuck at 0%.
I've tried running an original HTC firmware img from the card, but then I get the following error:
0028002
NOT ALLOW
Please help!
EDIT: After that, the bootloader appears, so I thought about trying a regular update then. When I do that, the update fails telling me the update file is corrupt.

Hi,
I suppose you can put your HD2 in bootloader mode (three colour screen). If yes do task29 once again but with radio rom eg. 2.10.50.28_2. After that try to install different rom eg. omega, clarity etc.

Did you read my post?
I said it doesn't work. If I try to run task29 or anything, it WAS stuck at 0% endlessly.
I could only get to the bootloader when I tried to update from the card, and that failed too.
Now I can't enter the bootloader nor run any updates (they go to 1%, then report the updater is corrupt).

did u do HSPL?

I already unlocked my phone before.
When I tried updating the original firmware from the card, that cleared the SPL, so now it seems to be the default. But when I tried to run HSPL now I get a wrong device code error.

unlocking is not the same thing as HSPL
updating stock ROM via sdcard will erase HSPL
go to bootloaded useing the volume key + power.
connect to USB and try and install the HSPL.
if it fails, try a different USB port\PC
if it still fails, can u post the text in tri color screen here

Sorry, when I meant "unlock" I meant the SPL thingy. I did not mean the carrier unlock, or whatever the technical term is.
Currently, I cannot access the bootloader at all.
Attempting to update with a freshly downloaded original HTC firmware gets the process stuck at 0%.

I managed to get to the bootloader...
It appears when I insert a card with LEOIMG, but it doesn't run the update from there, and appears to be STUCK at the bootloader (won't even show USB when the cable is connected).
Here's what it currently says:
HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x30
Currently, the phone refuses to update the firmware using the LEOIMG from the card (won't even show the question), and any attempt to flash it normally results in the phone being stuck at 0%.
Trying to install HSPL says "incorrect device ID".

Reformat the sd card with fat 32 or exfat put leoimg on there and press & hold volume down while turning phone on. Hope you get it working again....

I just tried this; the phone shows the bootloader and something extra in the corner (I didn't notice what it was) and is now stuck on "Loading...".
EDIT: Trying exFAT didn't reach that point at all. It got stuck on the bootloader saying that the software update failed. FAT32 was the one that got stuck on Loading.
BTW, I hope I'm not just very impatient, but if after 5 minutes it's STILL 0%, then I'd say chances are, something is wrong.
EDIT 2: I fear that trying to update via the card or USB cable just won't work. As such, I pray there's a qualified support in my town, which can handle HTC phones and can brutally flash the software (as I reckon this is the only thing that can be done).

Hopefully it's not a hardware problem.
Find me on skype - pannet7. I can speak Polish.

Well, apparently HTC is rather unpopular in Poland... I found one place in my town (Poznań) where they were willing to give it a shot, but their HTC service technician is on vacation till Monday.
I can use the official warranty method, but that will take about a week, starting Monday as well.
If anyone has any more ideas, I'm all ears.

so... did yo manage to get it working ?

If you cant connect to active sync, open active sync on home pc go to conections and uncheck usb connection that helped me last night

your going to have to format the micoSD card to FAT32 with a MicroSD card reader or some type of MicroSD to SD converter(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroSD)
(goto my computer/ right click the drive it was assigned to and click format... then under "file system" click on FAT32 then click format)
Download the rom update from HTC
Open the exe in WinRAR (rarlabs.com)
Find RUU_signed.nbh (it will be the biggest file)
extract it onto your desktop and rename it to TITAIMG.nbh
Move the file over to the formatted card and then insert it into phone.
Hold down "Power Button" + "Camera Button" & press the "Reset Button" with stylus
and done your phone should reconfigure back to how it would be "Virgin"

i got it fixed...basically what you have to do is go into the bootloader like everyone said and then i reflashed it with the original rom...after that i learned that you have to run the radio in order to boot
it take 5-10 min its really fast... try it again or grab a different ROM
SD card Flashing wont work.
I Really Am stuck. Flashing did not seem to work left it in the downloading for over an hour, then gave up. (I was trying to update to DCD Titan 2.1.0, From Sprint 2.17.651.0, Radio Version 1.47.01 ORIGINALY gave me problem Stuck in htc black screen)
I wont connect activesync, or usb peroid, so I formatted SDcard to FAT32, put the Sprint 2.17.651.0.nbh file into the card renamed it TITAIMG.nbh, and tried to flash. (Loading screen for over an hour, then gave up)
Some else said somthing about flashin 3.16 because of radio issues.
(from going 2.17, to DCD 2.1.0) but I cant find 3.16.nbh. if anyone could Link me to it that would be cool.

When you go into bootloader mode (power/camera/reset), what bootloader version is displayed on the screen? When you upgraded to the DCD ROM, did you also flash the new radio?
Can I add my dilemma to this thread? My Mogul also won't boot up. It gets to the yellow Sprint logo screen and then just shuts right back off.
I also, hard reset and that doesn't help. I can get to the bootloader screen but trying the Relocker means it wants my phone connected via Activesync (it calls for that in the DOS window that pops up), Activesync doesn't recognize the connection since the phone is in BL mode. Nothing I've tried so far has worked and some people on howardforums have tried to help and said I needed to install the radio only first and then go from there but I have had some trouble finding the original Radio as a download by itself.
Any takers on how I might be able to get this bad boy up and running again?
PS. I've also tried to install the original ROM found on the official HTC website and that didn't work either.
I appreicate if anyone can help both of us (the guy who posted the thread, too) out.
try extracting the relocker and then flash it.
Thanks guys this thread really helped me

If this is directed towards me, I extracted the relocker but I don't know what you mean by "flash it"
I thought flashing the ROM meant reinstalling a previous version or something. I've already tried running the relocker but like I said it requires an activesync connection but that doesn't work since I can only access R/G/B mode.
All the files inside the relocker are gibberish to me. Don't know what any of those things do separately.

If you are in bootloader, try flashing the "unofficial leaked" ROM. NOT one of the custom ROMs based on it, but the complete leaked package; it includes compatible bootloader, radio, and ROM, and should get you back up and running. You should then be able to run the old relocker and the old official radio and ROM package if that is what you are trying to do.

HD2 Bricked - Empty white screen

Hi,
I have a problem with my HTC HD2, thing is that the phone it's not booting correctly, all i got when i power on the device, it's an emty white screen... without the green HTC letters.
I got installed a cooked ROM, BsB Beast 6.1, with radio 2.12.50.02_2, and i was running Android from SD when all this **** started, two weeks ago. The phone battery ran out while i was on Android, a couple of hours later... i got home and plugged the phone for charging. When i pressed the power button, the phone boots with that blank screen.
I can get into the bootloader, and it's showing this info (whitout the underscores):
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-1.42.HSPL XE
_____________0x05
_____________0x30
CotullaHSPL
I've tried many different things and none seems to do anything at all:
- First of all, i did a hard reset. The process ends OK but the phone stays doing the same
- Then, i tried to flash again the same ROM i was using. I was unable to do that by using CustomRUU and PC connection. The phone it's detected by the PC, and the bootloader screen shows that it's conneted by "USB". Then, i executed the CustomRUU app, following all the steps and, when the phone should start flashing the progress bar doesn't get past 0%, both the phone display and PC. After a few minutes, CustomRUU gives an error saying "timeout" connection. I've tried to do this from different USB ports and different PCs with the same result.
- After those fails, i tried to flash again the cooked rom from SDCARD. The process ends OK, saying "Update Complete". Then, i rebooted the phone but the blank screen remains the same way. That cooked ROM doesn't have radio.
- After that, i decided to flash a stock ROM. First, i tried to make a "Task 29" to the phone, but i got the same problem than with the cooked ROM. The progress bar doesn't get past 0%. With the stock ROM the problem was the same again. Then, i tried to flash the stock ROM from SDCARD. The process stops at X% saying 0018003 RADIO - FAIL. I've got this error each time i try to flash a ROM with radio or a radio itself.
- I was able to do a "task 29" by using MTTY, but nothing changes when i try to flash any ROM after that.
- i've tried to upgrade my HSPL, by using both HSPL2 and HSPL3. Both programs detects my version of HSPL, then the process starts and ends saying "Succesfully done" but nothing changes in my bootloader, it's still saying that i got 1.42.HSPL
Since i can get to the bootloader, i hope to have any chance to get this device back to life.
I've readed some posts here and within other forums, i've tried with many different cooked or stock ROMS but nothing works
I hope to find help here, thanks in advance and, sorry if my speaking it's not 100% correct
yet another "i was running android and...........now my phone won't boot".. thread. makes me glad i don't bother with android...tried it once and had to hard reset, never touched it since, heh.
for the sticking at 0%,and timeouts etc, try and always enter bootloader yourself, then wait for serial to become usb, and then run customruu. this way you can also visually confirm hspl is there(or not there, depending what you are doing) and it should cure certainly the timeouts.
if i were you, i'd concentrate on getting back to stock, and start over.(only skimmed your post, i'm mobile, so sorry if i say something you already did.)
get into bootloader, get rid of hspl if it s there,(run hspl2 and choose 1.66.0000) then back into bootloader(you should soon get used to holding vol down as each stage completes to reenter bootloader) then try flash your CORRECT stock rom via usb. if that fails try it using the sd card method.
Thanks for answering, samsamuel.
I haven't looked into the Android section for threads with the same problem i got, maybe i should have started that way
Each time I enter the bootloader, i'm doing as you've said (believe me... in these days i've become a "master" on pushing power button with vol. down )
I always wait for the bootloader to finish loading, then i plug the phone to my PC, wait again for "Serial" turns into "USB" and, then, start the flashing process.
I'll try to do what you said with HSPL2, to select 1.66.000. Each time i've tried with different HSPLs, i've selected 1.66.HSPL or 2.08.HSPL... so, i guess i should try with that.
I'll be updating this thread as soon as i got news.
/me edit
I must to say, that Android was running "fine" (some minor problems when trying to wake up the phone, but nothing critical apart from this disaster). By the record, i didn't have installed dual boot... the phone always boots into WinMo
Hi again,
I have tried to update my SPL to 1.66.000 without success, despite what HSPL2 says ("Succesfully done")
Any thought about this? I can't understand why those programs are saying "OK" but are doing nothing
thanks in advance
not seen it first hand but have read several threads where the update seems to work but nothing changes. not really sure as to cause or cure, sorry.
I wonder if is there a way to make HSPL2 / HSPL3 to leave traces or any log of what they are doing... in order to see why my phone is ignoring them
Little bump, looking for more help
Is this the right subforum to post this things?

[Q] [HELP] Problem with T-Mobile HD2 and Can't Flash any ROM

Good day everybody,
I'm sorry if I make it long to describe my problem, but would someone please help me in this because there is no place else to go to have my phone fixed
I have a T-Mobile HD2 where it has a problem and I can't fix it.
The problem starts from the early first days with starting the iGO Navigation program.
Whenever I start the iGO, the phone power off
at the beginning, I thought that the problem is from the navigation program.....but....
After that, it got bigger and whenever I start the phone and try to touch anything on the screen it hangs up and power off again.
Also, sometimes I have to wait more than 15 minutes to start the phone again, and also it power off as usual sometimes the phone got stick on the pink/white "Stick Together" Logo
I give the phone to my friend and he tried to fix but he couldn't
So he gave me the phone back always turning on to the bootloader (Tri-Color) screen.
I tried to HSPL it, at the beginning I couldn't because the "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM Driver" was not installed, and it took me forever to get it and get my phone ActiveSync. With windows 7.
Finally, I managed to select the SPL-2.08.0000 through HSPL3 and the situation changed back to the same old situation where my phone sometimes start and stick on the pink/white "Stick Together" Logo, an only twice boots up to windows and start everything normally, but whenever I turn on the camera it power off again
I tried yesterday to flash a new ROM, but I didn't succeed
Right now, the info at the bootloader is these:
PB81120 HX-B3
SPL-2.08.000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0X40
I hope to find a solution to my phone problem in here.
Would someone help me please in this problem
Best Regards,
Just an update on my problem, I tried to flash this new ROM

So I tried to turn on the phone ad try to connect the phone when windows is up and running ( it doesn't happen quiet a lot to get windows running) and the phone turn off entering the bootloader screen (Tri-Color) the into the progress black screen with htc logo, but still the same problem
This time I got an image version number on the from field, but still the same
would someone help me please
Does it still say SPL 2.08.0000 in the bootloader?
Well, then you don´t have HSPL and can´t flash another ROM than the original.
Maybe re-try to install 2.08.HSPL instead of SPL 2.08.0000.

WoooooooooooW man, thanks brother you just made my day
I managed to flash it wth no problems, my phone comes back to life again
I didn't think flashing is very easy like this, I was afraid to brick my phone
thanks again for your help and support
Regards
Oh god, I'm trying on my friend phone now which has the same issue and I'm stuck on the HSPL3 where the phone always disconnect from USB, I know it by hearing the disconnect beep in windows, after that I got this error on HSPL3
The phone stays on bootloader (Tri-Color) screen, and shows USB but the truth is that the phone is already disconnected from the PC.
yesterday I was able to HSPL this phone but I selected SPL 2.08.0000 instead of 2.08 HSPL
I waited 10 mins and power up the phone and HSPL it without problem, but now another problem came out........... while the phone is flashing the new ROM, the status bar reaches only 29 % then the phone disconnected from USB by itself leaving me with ROM error [284]
Any help or hint please
I assume you run your PC with Windows 7?
When you start the second HD2 normally, is it seen in Windows Mobile Device Center?
If this is the case, the driver should be ok (it worked with your device, too).
Maybe try this: Disconnect the second HD2, put it manually into bootloader mode (turn off, then push volume down and power on simultaneously until multi-color screen appears), then re-connect it to the PC, USB should appear, then launch HSPL3.exe
Another simple trick is to try another USB port (definitely avoid hubs), or another USB cable.

Thanks brother for passing by again
Yes, I'm running windows 7
I had problems at the beginning to ActiveSync my phone because I couldn't get the phone to be discovered by my PC due to the "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM Driver" was not on my PC.
I managed to get the driver and downloaded Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1.
In the first phone, yes the WMDC 6.1 recognized the phone and I saw it connected at the program.
The other phone, I can't remember because I didn't open it! but I'm sure the phone was connected to the PC because I can see it under the connected USB devices.
Anyhow, I'm afraid that there is a problem with the phone hardware
The reason is because I charged the phone and left it for 30 mins, I tried to flash another ROM by CustomRUU.EXE and I succeeded.
but still when I turn on the phone, the phone get stuck on the first HTC logo screen
I also tried to flash the ROM from the sdCard and I succeeded but still same stuck problem
Also when I compared between the two phones when they boot up I noticed this;
- The first phone when booting it shows lines in red colors at the lower left corner of the screen.
- The second phone when booting shows nothing like this
Last thing I know is that the radio on the second phone is 2.08 and the first phone is 2.10
So I HSPL the leatest Radio whihc is (( Radio Leo 2.15.50.14 )) and still the same problem
Could anyone give me a hand on this problem
OK, so the first phone still running?
Can you put the second one into the bootloader mode and list what you see there?
Can you force a hard reset? What is the behavior of the device if you do so? While flashing (USB), did you try without SD card in (this sometimes makes problems), or even without SIM card, or even both cards taken out?
An HD2 which runs normally shows you some more more data in the lower left corner in the white HTC startup screen, incl. Radio ROM version. If there is nothing, it could be a hint that no ROM and/or no Radio ROM was flashed, eg. you got a bad flash.
Last, but not least, which ROM did you try to flash, the stock ROM?

CotullaHSPL 0X40
(Which is the same as the first phone that's working)
- What's the Hard Rest, do you mean the small yellow button??
- Yes, I tried flashing the phone while connected to my PC through USB and I took out the SIM and sdCard.
- You are absolutely right, I know that normal HD2 shows 3 Red lines in the corner while starting up including the Radio version.
Before I flash the phone, somtimes those line appears while booting up and the phone starts normally into the stock Windows 6.5 Pro, but after opening applications or starting navigating in the menus it powers off.
After that, when I power on again, the phone was getting stuck on the T-Mobile whiet/pink logo "Stick Together" and no thing appears in the lower left corner.
What's confusing me right now is that: "athough I was successfully on flashing a new Radio and ROM, this phone is not showing anything while booting up except the HTC logo and stuck on it "
I'm thinking now to try the "T-Mobile_HD2_MR_Software_3.14.531.1" which is the leatest update for the HD2 from T-mobile website.
I will be very appreciated if someone can help me with this problem.
Thanks
Yeah, the "white screen of death", eg. stuck in the white bootscreen, is often a hint that the Radio ROM does not match/is incompatible.
As a matter of fact, if you have the 3.xx ROM on your device, it won´t work properly with 2.08.HSPL, maybe that´s the reason for your issues. You need SPL 3.03 with this ROM.
"Hard Reset" means the complete reset, deleting the memory (turn off device, push both vol. up and vol. down at the same time, then briefly the power on button, follow the on-screen instructions to reset the device). Please note that this won´t erase the SPL though, in case you´ve got the incompatible combination.
Flashing the stock ROM is a good guess, worth a try. Try it with the SD card method, this will erase HSPL, too, just in case this had a bad flash, too. Or, in case you had the 3.xx ROM with 2.08.HSPL, this will be corrected, too.
If this would work, you could start from scratch.

Thanks for the hints, but unfortunatly I still have ths same issue (screen of death)
Today, I was able to power up the phone twice with the new ROM and I checked the software information and I found out that the radio is already installed correctly which is (2.15.50.14) but when I turn the camera and took a picture, the phone freezes and power off aagain, after that I returnd to the screen of death again
I tried the method of hard reset, same problem.
I also flash my phone with the custom ROM from T-Mobile using the RRU.EXE, but still stuck on the screen of death after flashing
Anyhow, one new thing happend to me today before doing any of those steps, and I believe it happend after I flash the new radio
- Now, when I power up the phone it vibrate the normal start up vibration then it goes to the booting screen, after 5 secondes it gives me a 7 broken vibrations
- Some times it give me the 7 broken vibrations directly with the start up and the phone's screen stays black
- And some times it doesn't give me the 7 broken vibration
like the phone is giving me an error code
Anybody have an idea about this strange problem !!!!
Please note that flashing through USB won´t erase and replace a defective SPL. This only works if you use the SD card method.
Concerning the new discoveries:
Now that´s something completely new to me... never heard anything like this. Except maybe non-stop vibration phenomenons...
Maybe you could open a new thread with that very specific problem...
I still get the feeling that you´re getting bad flash results, but maybe we´ve got a worst case here: Defective hardware.
If you´ve already put the original stock ROM (incl. SPL) on the device, maybe the best choice is to send the critical unit to a service center.
Still, if not yet done, I´d try to flash the stock ROM via SD card, worth a try.

I can't find the stock "nbh" rom so i flash it from the sdCard
all what I have is the EXE file that has the whole thing to flash the phone through USB which I downloaded from T-Mobile website
Can you help me please in finding the t-mobile stock rom ???
Well, you have all you need!
You can actually extract the RUU.exe file.
Use any decompression software (WinRar, ZipIt, whatever) to extract the files, rename the nbh file to leoimg.nbh, put it onto the freshly formatted (FAT32) SD card, and there you go.

Aha, I didn't know that, thanks
Anyhow, I tried that and took me forever th flash this ROM
when I put the "LEOIMG.nbh" file into the memory card and started the booting at bootloader, everythings works smooth like I'm flashing a new ROM wheer I got the phone's screen showing:
LEOIMG.nbh -
RADIO_V2 -
RUST -
BOOTLOADER -
SPLASH1 -
OS -
CONFIGDATA -
So I assumed that the phones starts to flash the ROM normally, at the begenning it got stuck while flashing the RADIO where the status bar stuck almost on 25%. I had to rest the phone couple of times, then try to flash again.
I managed to flash the phone with the Stock T-Mobile ROM twice, but still when booting it get stuck on the "White Screen of Death"!!!!
The phone still sometimes giving me the strange 7 broken vibration when starting.
Any new ideas
Nah, I don´t have any ideas anymore.
There was a thread with some guys having the same phenomenon with the vibration pattern, but the problem was never solved.
Since you tried everything now, maybe you should send your device to a service center. And after you flashed the stock ROM, warranty won´t be void (except the time is over).

Thanks for all the information brother, and yes that what said to my friend, now it's time to use the warranty
what i think is going on is the RAM got defected, where sometime it can handel processing the data and that's why the phone sometimesstarts up normally,
and somtimes it can't because the RAM is turning into fully volatile all the time and can't process the data anymore.
That's the only thing came to my mind could describe this problem.
Thanks again and I wish they givemy friend a new phone

[Q] Is my phone bricked??

Hey all, I am having trouble booting anything onto my HD2 everytime i boot the phone i get stuck on the (tri colour screen) "Hardspl" i think..
I am able to install original HTC roms and custom roms via USB and Serial but after i install them and it says installation complete when the phone restarts it just gets stuck on the "Hardspl" screen again??
Any help is appreciated thanks
Here are some images to help

(UPDATED)
How do i remove hspl ive tried installing an offical rom from the SD card but i still boot into this screen ????
Try this........
Power off the phone (make sure your battery is over 50%)
Turn on while holding the vol. down button.
You should be at bootloader (three colour screen)
If you have HSPL installed you should see "cotulla" and "HSPL" on the bootloader somewhere.
If youve been flashing official roms though this may have uninstalled HSPL.
I couldnt get the screenshots you linked to...
You can attach image files using the "manage attachments" button down under the text entry area.. (i think)
Id suggest trying to flash a stock/official rom just now until you get up and running.
With the phone at bootloader you should see the word "serial" at the bottom of the screen....
Connect via USB and wait for "serial" to change to "USB", this could take a few minutes.......
When you see "usb" flash the ROM from your pc......
You should make sure that you have the correct ROM for your phone, go to the HTC site and pump in your serial number.
If you still have problems after this then post back here with any error messages you might get...
Hope that helps.....
Thanks for the reply, for the link you need to add (http ://) sorry i should have mentioned that
but i just finished doing what you told be and it finished installing. it had the HTC logo on phone with loading bar as on PC screen no errors :S but im still stuck on the tri colour screen
I originally had android booted onto this mobile but the 3G was not working so i tried installing the HTC wm 6.5 rom that I downloaded from the HTC website but it would not get out of the tri colour screen after i installed it.
So i though it may have been the hardspl its self so i updated the SLP from 2.05 to the 3.03 one im currently on but it does the same thing
Hmm ok...
So the flash finished all the wasy to 100% and there were no error messages..
then the phone rebooted and went to bootloader (3 colours)...??
Restarting the phone just keeps returning you to bootloader??
Try turning off then back on while holding down both volume buttons and see what happens.
Which model of HD2 do you have and which ROM did you flash??
Yes thats correct.
When i turn the device on wile holding vol up-down i get a grey screen to
"This operation will delete all your personal data, and reset all settings to manufacturer default. press vol up to restore or press any other keys to cancel"
and im not sure what HTC HD2 i have..
Model: T8585 ?
I flashed the latest rom from the HTC website using the S/N
"RUU_Leo_S_HKCSL_WWE_3.14.831.3_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship"
Okay, get to that screen and press volume up to continue, this will perform a hard reset which is recommended after a flash, your device should then boot up, may take a few minutes as its the first time..........
ok, It finished in like less then 10sec but there was not skips did from 1% - 100% smoothly and says "Restore....Completed Press VolUp to boot"
So i pressed volume up and once again stuck on the tri colour screen
any more suggestions or is my phone dead?
Hmmm
Phones not bricked because 95% of the time if you can get to bootloader the problem can be fixed........
I have the feeling this is something obvious that Im not picking up on.
Chances are someone else will see this and point out the obvious but at the minute I cant think why it might be doing that......
You could try flashing the ROM from SD card.
Rename the file on your PC to "leoimg.nbh" and put it on a 2gb/4gb sd card, turn the phone off, put the card in, turn on and it should flash........
Like I said, i dont think your phone is dead, I think Im missing something obvious....
its weird because i can install roms, hardspl's and all that stuff it knows the phone is there and installs them but for some reason it never gets passes the hardspl stage.. on each boot.
it accually boots into the tri colour screen in a split second of turning the phone on
Its a longshot but is there any possibility that your volume down button is stuck in the pressed position.........
yeah i have installed off the SD card already. that took awhile but it says everything is ok and installsion has completed.
same problem though once i restart tri-coloured screen pops up.
Im afraid Im not sure about this one...........
I'll keep thinking and let you know if anything occurs to me.....
Im sure someone else will chip in at some point and point out the issue though.
alright no worries thanks for the help and time hopefully someone knows what the problem is.
Maybe if i uninstall the Hardspl? might totally wreck it and 100% brick my phone if it fails but I think its the only option ill have left soon
uninstalling hspl shouldnt cause any harm........
I didnt realise you had HSPL installed, I take it you instaled that after flashing the stock rom??
If you have HSPL installed......
Try to install a custom rom, ie an energy rom, just as an experiment........
dunno if youve seen the images yet conan, but unless its changed since, the OP has 3.03.0000
also, if he has magldr installed ( i didnt see it mentioned, but..) when you hard reset it takes just a few seconds, because it is only hard resetting magldr (at least thats my understanding, and would offer a reason why hard reset is so quick)
I suspect incorrect 3,14 flash, which didnt complete so its returning to bootloader,
so, OP, bootloader - hspl4 - 3.03.hspl - flash your 3.13 rom again, over usb.
ok thanks ill try that right now, also yes magldr was installed for android but i thought I got rid of it once i rebooted the offical HTC rom.
If this works im donating $20 to you right away no joke .. ive been trying to fix for 13hours straight

sd card flash, right?
Step 1 of the flash is the spl gets overwritten by the one in the leoing.nbh rom (3.03.0000 in this case) and then the phone reboots, and starts to flash , , splashscreen (where magldr is), radio, rom.
BUT, the phone wont allow the flash to start because hspl is now gone, so it fails CID checks and stops, so doesn't remove magldr, radio, rom, nothing, it just stops. Further attempts at flashing fail because you teh user haven't notived the spl change, you assume the whole flash failed, and that hspl is still there.
You shouldnt be able to get that far normaly, it would fail before it even starts, on a stock spl, except that hspl was there, so the flash was allowed to begin.
Ok, so its on SPL-3.03.HSPL now then I installed the latest HTC offical rom with USB but still no go
also if it is resetting magldr how come it doesent load up like it used to after a reset

Recovered my softbricked phone really easy way

Here is where I was at, ready to throw away the phone I ruined. I was rooted and S-ON and unlocked via HTC unlock bootloader web page. I was happily trying new things here when my phone went to all white background with green HTC letters. Wouldnt do anything. While trying to fix that I erased my backup and the software on the phone. I let the phone sit all day hoping the white backgound would go away but no. It wouldnt even power off. But I able to get into bootloader by doing this: Hold down power and volume up for 10 seconds, as soon as the screen goes blank slide finger down to volume down and hold. This got me into boot loader. I tried all the things outlined here to recover (using abd commands, fastboot *.img files nandroid backups, sideloading etc. My CID shows CWS_001 and next to the OS field is blank. Pulled the SIM and SD card to erase cache, no help. Wipe delvick, data, etc all failed with the E: unable to mount message. 2 Days gone by with not even a glimmer of recovering phone
So I went to HTC support download news (sorry cant post a link until 10 posts) and downloaded the RUU that contains the 4.4.3 update. This is an exe file that updates your phone. It failed on the first go. So I relocked the phone using wonders_never_cease M8 all in one kit, then double clicked on the RUU app again. It took off and ran. It is menu driven so I answered all the acknowledgements and got to the update screen. On that screen "current version field was blank and update to field reflected the new RUU version. The instructions tell you to put your phone into recovery mode and select fastboot. My Windows PC already had the HTC drivers loaded. I was shocked when the app began loading modules without failing. I didnt have to do anything except put attach usb cable to phone from PC and put the phone in fastboot. 10 mins later, the phone rebooted and my hated ATT logo and tune showed. Am up and running on 4.4.3 and new firmware.
Everything works fine on the phone (no modules missing). So it appears the "upgrade" will wipe partition and reload all the software on the phone without doing much of anything else. Thought I post this up for any other semi-noob that got into trouble and just wants a working phone. I am not sure a phone that is S-OFF would work but it doesnt hurt to try. I do understand HTC stopped the OTA update due to battery draining issues but the download is still available for fastboot. Am just happy to have a working phone. Now will make a backup in TWRP immediately. Over and out....Michael

As long as the screen comes on for this phone, its virtually always recoverable. There was never any reason to think you had to throw away the phone. Next time you are stuck, just ask for help here; as we are happy to help. You did the right thing in trying to find existing solutions. But it sounds like you did your due diligence searching and reading; and would have been justified starting a new thread and asking for help.

While the OTA has had some reports of causing battery issues, the RUU has not had any reports of such issue, and seems to be free of it.

S-off does not affect whether or not the RUU will work, I don't know why folks keep saying or asking this. RUU will work whether S-on or S-off. The only difference, is that with S-on, you need to either have a LOCKED bootloader, or RELOCKED (relock it manually if you unlocked it).
Also, in general, S-off does not limit anything. It means "all security off" and enables more access, not the opposite. If anything, S-off enables more things than S-on.
Thanks for the all the info. The experience was a valuable teaching moment. Now back to playing around with the M8.
