im really tempted to jump and replace my ELF with a HERO. ( i know newbie style question coming up and i apologise but i HAVE looked before i asked lol )
ok, i use text editing lots on my ELF, i make notes in word etc and is there something i can use that it compatible with the HERO that i can make text notes on and save and refer to at a later point ??
( yes i know quick office reads mobile office but i need an editor more really. something i can create. it doesnt have to read mobile office , just make notes )
any ideas ???

There are plenty of "notepad" type apps on the Market for free, but the paid app DocumentsToGo offers a full "office" type experience (i.e. read and writes Word and Excel files).

I made the switch from a Elfin to the Hero and I can't ever go back. The hero is an amazing device.

I am completely newbie in Smartphones. I just bought unlocked HTC HD2 brand new from Amazon.com I have several questions for professionals and hope to get answers. So here they are (sorry for being dummy):
1. What is ROM? i meet everywhere this word in this forum. Is it kinda Smartphone's OS?
2. Everybody is talking about Android, WinMo and etc. Is it possible to have in my HTC HD2 only 1 OS like Android? I mean, can i delete WinMo completely and install Android? how will change battery life in that case?
3. Is porting safe? For example if I wanna get rid of original WinMo 6.5 and port WinMo7 or Android to my phone, will that be safe?
4.Some people in youtube.com demonstrate Android running in HTC HD2, are they running 2 Operating systems on HTC HD2? If you run both WinMo and Android, how long will be battery life?
5. Is latest release of Android so smooth and neat like original WinMo 6.5 of HTC HD2?
6. Is there any FLV player for WinMo 6.5? Where can I get apps for WinMo 6.5?

No, Your primary OS will be WM, if you will have only Android you have unfortunately buy a wrong device.

Safe is a big word sir, this depends on your talent, the Rom version you will install, radio, Android build ...
Everything you will changed here is on your own risk. the chance of success is depending if you read/follow the instructions.

Yes, like mention before running Android without WM isn't possible right now.
Battery life is very variable, depending on your basic Rom, your Radio version, the Android build, your used.....
Some people mention to have 5H of battery some mention to have more.

No sir, fore the moment there are some little bugs/issue on some versions. you need to know it isn't build fore this device! but a solution is close!

I don't know what you mean with "FLV player" but you can get apps from Windows Marketplace (It's not so big as Android ore Apple )

Let's go analyze this.
First of all Windows Mobile will have a long life, some professional users need WM.
Secondly eh WP7 isn't a good professional alternative, to limited.
Thirdly 6.5 ?? hmm let say 6.5.5 will take the future.
If you go take a look onto the Rom Build Threads the majority of builders/users are WM 6.5.X users!

I have downloaded Video Clips from Youtube in FLV format. (flash video format)
I wanted to play them but was not successfull to do it on my HTC HD2. It has Windows Media player which is not really good. I tried TCMP, nothing. Any alternative?
Marketplace is not free, that is sad.
I would be delighted to get advice and info from professionals like you Sir,
I don't wanna get unuseful information from beginners and don't wanna ruin my OS

You can tray to used Core player v1.3.6, maybe this can do what you are looking fore.
Its the one I used.
About Marketplace, install Marketplace RegionSwitch it allow you to have access to more stuff Free/payment.

The Radio is the flagship of your connections, (WiFi, Bluetooth, Phone connection) giving advice fore this is quite complicated because it's related to Rom version and/ore area.
In general the older 2.07 ore the new one 2.15 are good working versions.
CHT is a small/big application who permit you to customize your home screen.
Take a look on the CHT 1.8.5 thread; here is the link.
I know this is the link on the older version, the new version CHT 2.0 is a beta version, not stable at 100% and much more possibility of customize. but fore a new user like you it is best to start with 1.8.5 ons you get it and the version of CHT 2.0 is finish you can use this one.

The Core player you gave me worked fine. However it doesn't support Mp4 format. My Windows Media Player opens MP4, but it plays only sound and doesn't show video

Cab files are self installation zip files! (But be careful don't extract cab files by a zip program, the conscription is different, so it will mes your device!!)

SPB is/are applications, UI, ...
The most in comment thing we all know is the famous "SPB Mobile Shell"
EX:
In the most case it are payment applications with 10/30 day free trails.

dear friend, i would also suggest that you use the search option in this site....it will yeild a lot of information .......coming to mp4 format....coreplayer plays all formats.. you need to select the settings..open coreplayer/ menu/tools/settings/select page/file associations.......there you can select what format you want to play

Fore your apps; be careful not every application who was build fore a WM6.1 will be compatible on a WM6.5 ore 6.5.x important is to read the information added fore this.
unfortunately I think I have bad news fore you; you will probably remember you when there where some leek about WP7! and at the same time there were simulate information about the HTC HD2 on announce to make a update the other non.
Now the official announcement was there will be no update to WP7 fore the HTC HD2 announce by HTC and Windows.
It is sad to hear about WP7. Some guy named Cotulla showed video that he was able to run WP7 on HD2. What they mean by that? are they still running both WM6.5 and WM7?
If you run 2 OS on HD2, isn't it gonna drain your battery in couple hours? Or was Cotulla able to install WP7 to cleaned disk space, I mean only 1 OS? what do you think?

The WP7 on a HTC HD2 will only be available by custom builders,

Lot of questions, the future will give the answer! will it have a success (way not there are day hards here )
But what I was saying in previous post is that HTC will not make a update to WP7 on the HTC HD2.

I live in Chicago currently. I have called The Tech Shop (repair center). Guys from there told me that they can port Android to HD2 completely. I asked whether my windows mobile can be completely removed and replaced with Android. they told me that they will do it for sure. Do you think that it worths to change OS to ANDROID?

I think he's talking about a version similar to the ones available on iOS, BB, and Android devices--one with chat functions. It would be nice, but it seems as of now that it is just a "viewer"...
Seem that the Grindr app here doesnt; work anymore.. it always discovers my location.. but never displays anyone.. I live in a major metro area so it should list some people...

There is one now (as at Feb 2012).
A friend has it. "Metrocrush". I was a bit surprised he had it mind, though I don't mind what he does in his free time

We're talking about 50/60k ppl who gonna use W''App when its complicatable for 6.x Phones..
Anyway that really sucks.

it´s possible to run whatsapp, it,s too easy.
first you must download the file from whatsapp .com for nokia n40 series, you must open with a desscompressor, open the meta.txt and supr the certificate s40 and run in a java virtual machine from windows mobile and, i cannot suceed you have to put your phone and your nationality and in theory (i don´t know how to say XD) should send a message to your mobile with a number and register with this number in whatsappfrom winmo, the problem is that (if anybody can do it) how you can add a contact.
I wait that this information can be useable for anybody xd
i attached the whatsapp that i have modified and works good but not send the message it,s my problem xd
i give you the whatsapp modified, surely it´s wrong modificated, but not ask for certificates
sure hope someone can get this running. don't wish to have to get a blackberry just for whatsapp functionality =.=

I know many people are addicted to the PC suite and this software is only for the lovers of PC suite.

Thanks for this. Really needed it. Every time I found any pc suite it was basically paid or trial version. I guess mobo is completely free as far as I have used it lately.

Looks nice, but the App on Android is in Chinese or wathever and I couldn't read any Data on the phone.
Another App is MyPhoneExplorer. It's free and stable, has the same functions as MoboRobo but not that nice Interface.

For me it is in english....Try to install the software again and select language english..not sure whether it gives an option to install language because i am in office..will confirm when reach home..But you can try once.....
Unfortunately it crashed when I tried to run it on Windows 7x64. I even tried in various compatibility modes, none worked.

You can report it to their website..I have checked this on my Windows 7 32Bit. and it is running flawlessly...

On XP it will work but not sure about X64... and yes it is a very useful software and I have Pinned to my statusbar of my PC

Though I saw it from Panda apps but didn't thought that mobo is separate from them *which is japanese version* until I saw it from your thread . At last I can now send/receive a message using my PC/Netbook which I after from this POWERFUL SOFT but seems got more feature to LOVE *backup everything on my phone, install/uninstall apps & manymore*. By the way my phone is Galaxy Y (Young) - GT-S5360 *just sharing* coz our device is not on their support lists but it's working fine . THANKs again DUDE .
