Hey,
Has anyone have their vibrant send a text to a random contact?
Some times while I'm have a text conversation, the contact image will change to someone else. And then my texts from that point on is sent to the contact whose pic is showing. So if I'm texting John, I send a reply to his text. But all of a sudden the picture is Sarah. And even though the number showing is Johns, the text are being sent to Sarah.

Happens to me sometimes
It has happened to me twice, with two different Vibrants, but I have exchanged them both. I am on the third one now and has not happened yet... easy fix, just delete both threads of texts "Sarah" and "John" and it will all be back to normal
by the way, this is not why I exchanged the phones, I had some email issues, but happened on both phones
Ok,
I just wanted to make sure it wasn't just me. It has happened to me twice so far.
Happened to me.
This'll go over great when, meaning to text my wife, I send something like "Let's bone tonight!" and it goes to some random female friend. Yeah, let's hope this fix is in the coming update.

LoL Happened to me a couple of times...Sent a message meant for my girlfriend to a friend of mine that I had also been talking to that night...lets just say he wasn't too interested in the activities I had planned for us that night.
Like posted before just clear your messages and it shouldn't happen as much. It's a pain but hopefully that's something that gets fixed in the upcoming update.
This sounds vaguely familiar - I remember hearing about this on the Nexus One:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/android/thread?tid=345259e6d424bad3&hl=en
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735471&page=2
Apparently it's still going on even in Froyo. I have never personally experienced this. Also read here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=1233
There is some speculation that the corruption begins after receiving an incoming MMS from certain services such as Bank of America's online banking alerts.
Has happened to me more times than I can remember. Makes things interesting of course, but yes def has been happening.
Just a thought - there is an app called SMS Backup/Restore which can index all your messages into an XML file. It skips MMS but this is ok because I rarely receive them.
So if you are experiencing wrong recipients, try taking a full XML backup using this app, and then clear your SMS logs. Restore them back and see if the messages are back under the right threads, and see how long it takes to get the error again.
+1 for me as well...
I've had a similar issue but not exactly the same. I will receive a text from someone and press to reply and it opens a text box with the recipient being someone different than the one I am meaning to reply to. I have caught it both times and have yet to send out a bad text to someone, but it is annoying that you have to be that careful with something that has worked perfectly on phones that are $20 phones... shouldn't happen.

Hello and thank you for taking he time to read this.I own a Motorola Photon with Android 2.3.4 as my operating sytem. Since the latest update, I have been having issues with my text messaging. Its strange as how it happens but what the totality of my issue is that when I reply to individuals I send text messages too ,other individuals would receive my text message that I did not reply to. For example:
Contact A sends me a text message "Hello how are you doing?" and Contact B send me a text message " Bring milk on your way home". Now, when I respond back to Contact A by saying "Im fine thank you and how have you been?, Contact B will receive the text message that was meant for Contact A.This seems to occur almost on a daily basis. Is there more folks out there that is having this same issue? And if so, please let me know what I would need to do to resolve this matter. I did update profile and I did have sprint talk a look at it but they are claiming its MOTOTROLAs/Android issues and that I will have to wait for them to push a fix.
Also, I am not using any 3rd party text app or have a rooted phone. Im using the standard MOTOBLUR launcher! I was using the standard motorola messaging app and had the problem as I described to which I started using the GO Messaging app which had the same issues and errors.I am back using the motorola messaging app.
Please let me know if there is a fix for this problem or if there are different alernatives that I can do to avoid this problem.I have been in contact with Nick, [email protected], who has stated that that a fix was sent out regarding this but I am .....I am still constantly having the text messaging issues and its causing a major problem where I'm always second guessing as to whom I'm replying to in my messages. Please let me know if there is going to be a major fix or a software update for this problem?
Please provide some type of feedback!
Thank you again for your time!
I do not have this problem on my Photon, but I did on my Evo for a minute. Twice in a month I happen to approach my mother with sexual comments!!!!
More or less, I cleaned up and deleted all my text messages. Here is what 'I' think the problem was. Lets say I know a girl name Lori and we text all the time. I did not have 30 text from her over a month, I had 1 text with 500 replies in it!!! Take the above and times it by 80+ people............
Saved them and deleted them all. Have not had the problem since! (Come to think of it, it was November 2010. I was joking with a friend over thanksgiving day sexual "Treat", my mother called me with "Excuse me?" and repeted what I had typed to the friend. I looked at text message and it was addressed to friend, but somehow..........anyway, that is how I fixed it!
---------- Post added at 04:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:51 PM ----------
I wanted to come back here and address this, although my last post is true and may seem funny, looking at the BIG picture, it was not and a very serious issue. What did or did not my boss receive? The girl that I REALLY liked, what did she receive? If my daughter asked me for money and I replied "Sure, I'll send you $50.00?", who did it go to?
After my mother's call, my mind was a wreck for 3 or 4 days thinking of what I sent and who received what.
If they are THAT important to you, get Titanium Backup and save them. Then blow them away weekly or so. I keep one screen of text messages, no need to scroll.
+1 To the suggestion above. I also had this problem occasionally on my old HTC Hero and I'm pretty sure when I would delete a bunch of threads and clean out all the text messages stored in the phone, this issue went away. Still an annoying problem though and it would be nice if it never happened.
As for backing up SMS/MMS messages, I recommend a simple Free app from the Market called "SMS Backup & Restore". It makes saving/backing up texts very easy -- just 2 or 3 touches of your screen, and it puts them all in a single .xml file that can easily be pulled off your phone or card via USB, emailed to yourself, etc.
Titanium Backup Pro. PERIOD!!! $6.58 and worth ever cent!!!
EDIT: I backup every 3:00AM Monday, then every few weeks move the backup to Desktop AND my 16Gb USB on my keychain!
Sort of bringing back an old thread, but my texts are not coming through any more. I can send them, but I dont get any. I do get mms. My wife, who is sitting right next to me, gets them and sends them, so I don't think it is Sprint. Might be a Sprint/Android thing though because she has a blackberry. Its been two days without a text and I normally do 20-50 texts a day.
I am stock rooted and using the stock messaging app. Nothing has changed from 2 days ago with the problem started. I've tried rebooting, roaming, and home only.
Any ideas?

Read back in this thread and you will find your answer. As I use my phone more and more, I still find the need to clean up worthless text to clear s**t up! Pandora lags, ZumoCast stutters, Facebook crashes. I blow away 60 to 80 text, problem solved!

Yeah, I deleted all my texts messages that I had stored. Still have not received a text, but I do get mms still. Tried updating PRL and Profile. Tried rebooting several times.... Still nothing.
Try sending yourself a text message. Sometimes I get a bunch that haven't come through by doing that. Also, install Google Voice as it will get messages too sometimes even if they don't make it to your sms app

Recently I've been getting tons of phone call spam, and it's getting outta control.
Basically I'm seeing numbers like:
7829105866
7436694122
ETC...
No messages left, and when you pickup the phone there's nobody on the other end.
Honestly I don't know what caused this. I do light surfing on my phone. (no porn, casino, ETC...) I usually install apps that I only pay for from the Market, and I usually only install what I need. I do have an unlocked BL & rooted Atrix (currently on stock 2.3.6).
I'm getting somewhere between 3-10 calls a day, and it's getting frustrating! I've been dabbling around lately with call blockers, but will probably need to spend more time researching them.
Anywhoo... Anybody else here dealing with the call spam as well? If so how much, and what are you doing about it?... (Call Blockers?, Antivirus?, Firewalls?)

Probably a better place to take this inquiry is to your provider. An app on the phone would not fix the underlying issue.
You could try Root Call Blocker.

I'm with AT&T. To my understanding, they can block numbers but these numbers are coming totally random so I'm not sure if there would be a limit or not or even if that's possible...

I've been picking away at different call blockers, but striking out since calls are still getting through. All this BS shortly happened after I rooted my phone, (needed to use a new root method) and it appears that these calls are coming from India.
So I'm not sure if I should stay rooted, unroot, or find a new root method?...
Simple in cm7 settings there is an option to block number so no more missed calls and **** (i am sure there is an app for that too) and for sms spam.control install go sms and block the numbers there too, i am sure u just block numbers and soon they will run out of numbers

I get a few spam calls each month. All from a cruise company. To combat it, I created a spam contact and add all spam calls to that contact, then just ignore calls that show as that contact. Pretty easy.

Thanks... Haven't gone the CM7 route yet. I'm not sure if flashing CM7 would be a solution to me though, since each one of these calls has been from a different number. I don't know if it's spoofed or what, but I don't know if these numbers are ever gonna run out.
The only thing I got to work is using a 3rd party app to "somewhat" block calls not in my contacts list. Phone still rings first. Unfortunately I still need to receive calls outside of my contact list for work. Probably the only "solution" that would work for now is if I could block out any call outside of the US, and also not ringing my phone when blocked. (since these calls seem to be coming from India on Google searches) I'm not sure if such a solution exists...

You have to pay for blocking with AT&T, and then its limited to only a few numbers. They wont arbitrarily block numbers. I would google the numbers. If they're spam you'll find threads about them. There are apps which block numbers not in your contact list and don't ring 1st. That would work for you for time being. You probably signed up for something where you input your number without thinking. I will try to find app I know about when I get home.

Search Mr. Number in the market. It has the option to send all non-contact calls straight to voicemail (and many other options). So long as you make sure your voicemail notification is silent, you should be set. If these spam calls are conistently blank, I assume they won't even leave a voicemail.
This is what I used to block my ex-wife!

I've been getting a lot of calls recently from random 877 and 360 area code numbers...not sure why but it's pretty annoying
I've gotten all kinds of calls from political candidates to timeshares calls. I have had this problem for a while so I started adding all those numbers to a generic contact (I called mine "Bad People"). I tried all kinds of apps but none worked well. I found that right in the Android contact list, there is an option to send contact straight to voice mail. I can confirm it on both CM7 and CM9, pretty sure blur had it but not 100%. I'm on CM9 right now and when you select the contact that option is available when you hit the menu button, it is not available when you are editing the contact.
Additionally, I was getting calls from "Unknown" callers which is also very annoying, to beat this I added a contact with the name "Unknown" and selected the option for that contact to go straight to voicemail and that has seemed to work. It went from 3 or 4 unknown calls a day to 0 and if it was a real person, they could always leave a message.
As a heads up, I had over 120 numbers on my fake contact and my phone was having a lot of trouble (adding, syncing and blocking), so I broke that one contact into 3 fake contacts, 50 numbers per fake contact seems to work pretty well, just make sure you send all 3 voicemail.
Also if you flash a new rom to your phone, you will have to go to the fake contact and check the box to send them back to voicemail, but that's easy to do.

That's the one I've been trying out right now. The jury is still out about that one, since the only way that it works well is if I block all numbers not in my contacts, but that isn't doable for work.
The frustrating part is that I am not getting the same number, it's "random" numbers and no number is the same when it calls. They all appear to be coming from India. If I can find a program that blocks all calls outside the US, it would be perfect...
Great solution actually.
Do you think the block list size caused problems?

Is there a way to cancel an SMS during sending? I used to be able to go to the outbox and stop the message before it sent (Accidental, bad message, sent to wrong person, etc). However, I can't seem to do that on this phone. Is there any mod or app that can allow me to possibly long press a message while it's sending and cancel the sending? (I get ****ty reception where I'm at, so it usually takes a couple seconds before the message sends).

Why don't you try selecting the message as its sending and when the menu pops up you hit "delete". Usually works for me when sending mms.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
I tried that. Sometimes it works, but sometimes it still goes through. Also, sometimes I don't necessarily want to delete the message, but rather edit it, especially if it's a long message :l
Haven't gone through that yet so don't know but that's the reason I always type the body content and do fill in the recipient last.
Handcent has an option to confirm before sending.
doesnt take long at all to send a sms message. but if you do delete it before it goes through, it will get canceled. But only have a limited time. Cant edit or delete a message thats already sent/recieved.
Quick fix: Dont be so fast to hit the "send" button
Go SMS pro also has the same feature. Let's you confirm before sending a message. I'd recommend moving to that or handcent if you wanna be in more control of your SMS app. Plus the ability to swap themes on the fly is always nice too

Confirming every message would be annoying. Plus, even if I had that functionality on, I'd grow to just confirm without reading. I usually catch errors when it's being sent (my luck ). Also, I tried deleting a message that was being sent the other day, yet the person still got it? Was I just not quick enough or...? Because I saw the little green arrow still indicating that it was trying to send the second I deleted it.
Proof read? That's what I do, not always 100% but it helps. Hopefully you find a solution. Until then, proof read ;-)

I personally can't vouch for that method of deleting-while-sending to be true. I used to do that a lot and sometimes it worked. Others it didn't. And confirming every message can be pretty annoying lol. Other than that though there isn't much else to do other than pay a littleeee bit more attention before you hit that nice shiny send button

Anyone have an issue with texting?
I was using GO SMS Pro and occasionally I would get a text appearing to come from the last person to text me.
For example, if John was the last person to text me then Jane did, Jane's message would appear as if it was from John.
I thought it was GO SMS so I uninstalled it. Today on the stock messaging app I noticed a text come in and it rapidly changed from the last person who sent me a text to the person it was really from.
When this happens and I reply, it goes to BOTH people.
Very strange. Hasnt happened to me
Very embarrassing. The last time it happened I didn't catch it therefore a lot of my private texts were posted as comments to my friend's status update on Facebook.
BUMP!
This is STILL happening even after the update. I am bone stock, even ran the newest RUU.
It happens if I use Chomp or Go SMS. If I use stock SMS app I can see it come in under the wrong number and quickly change to the right number. This SUCKS. The other day I thought I was responding to my wife, telling her all the nasty things I was going to do to her when I got home from work, turns out I was posting them to my buddies wall because I get text alerts when he posts to Facebook.

This has never happened to me, I am rooted and running MeanRom. My wife complained about it on her phone (Completely Stock) and I saw it in the messaging history. In the stock messaging app, a message from person A will show up under the thread for person B. It only happens every now and then, but it is very crazy. Not sure why it happens.
Hi,
Sorry if this question has been answered elsewhere, but I couldn't seem to find anything on it, and everything I did find seemed to mostly be for Froyo on much older phones... The cause might still be the same but don't know.
Anyway, I recently installed SynergyRom on my Galaxy S4, I'm also admittedly a hoarder of text messages, and have 11,000 or so text messages backed up through sms backup & restore. I kind of like having them all on my phone (yes, I've read before that sometimes restored messages cause minor issues, but I like it *shrug*). Anyway, I restored the messages to my phone, and eventually when I was texting someone, the stock messaging app got a force close, after which, all of my messages had disappeared. I didn't think much of it, restored again, and then today when I received a text the app force closed again, and all my messages disappeared again. Any thoughts?
Hopefully the answer isn't just I need to be less crazy about saving texts, but if that's really the cause, that's it.. Anyway, help/suggestions would be appreciated. T hanks!
Waiting for the answer too. I did not root my phone or anything, just the original phone from store. Sometimes the messages in message app disappear. The phone shows "there is no message", the only thing I can do is create new message. After I restart the phone, the messages come back in the message app.
I know by default in the messaging settings that there is a setting check box for "delete old messages....seems after so many message it will delete from a certain point...something like 200 messages...deletes oldest first. Go in and uncheck the box...see if that helps. Having that many texts is nuts...your a texting border...

Yea, I know about limits, and that's definitely not it.. I've heard other people say the text messages come back after you restart, but I'm not sure if that's only if you restart right away without sending more texts.. Mine didn't come back after a restart at least, but I didn't restart until much later.. Thanks for the suggestions so far though!
