From the music player long press the ringtone you want to assign and select "set as", then select where you want the ringtone assigned. You will have 3 choices: Voice call ringtone, Individual ringtone, and Alarm tone
..Little different than my N1. Thanks for the help!
I believe the contacts that you want to change the ringtone for need to be saved to the phone, not the sim.
Then all you have to do is click on Contacts
-Long click the contact name you want to use a different ringtone for
-Hit Edit
-Scroll down to Ringtone
-Then you can select from Default Ringtone/Sound/Phone Ringtone
Yes, the contacts have to be saved to phone. I had the same problem cause all my contacts were in my gmail. A bit annoying.

So there's no possible way to add a personal ringtone if its saved to gmail account?

When I used ringdroid on my G1 I was able to use it to select custom notifications for my alerts (gmail, SMS, etc..) On the Samsung vibrant even though I have ringdroid installed when I select notifications on gmail or sms I do not get the option use ringdroid or select non system notifications.
Anyone else having this issue or found a method for select custom notifications?
Are you sure you weren't using rings extended? Sounds more like it's functionality. Ringdroid is mostly for cropping audio.
Messages>application button> settings> Notifications That'll allow you to change SMS tones. You have to be on the messages main menu to get this to work.
I forgot how I changed the GMail one. I'll have to get back to you on it but it's probably the same thing.

You have to create a folder on the phone under media call notification, ringtones, alarms and put the files there
I am trying to assign a new "mail" sound to a soundset but It only gives you an option to listen to it along with other notifications. Does anyone know how to edit that?
Use root explorer and drop the new files you would like to use in the appropriate folder in /system/media/audio
I wonder why I can change the ringtone and notification but not email sound? The thunderbolt is like an iPhone it doesnt allow you to change the email sound
What email app are you using? You should be able to open setting inside the app and then change it from there... as in for gmail, open gmail, menu, more, settings, select ringtone. if you copied the ringtone you want in the folder i posted above it should show up in there now.
Stock email app syncing with exchange. When I click on menu, settings, notification settings I only get checkmarks for "email notifications" Notification sounds" and Notification Vibrate"
There is no option to choose a sound.
Tried to do this last night and it took me a while. I kept looking under the email settings and Sound but couldn't find it. You have to go through Personalize:
Settings--->Personalize---> Notification Sound
From there you can change Message, Calendar and Email.
I don't use that one but i believe that it using the default notification sound. Place your file in /system/media/audio/notifications and then reboot your phone. Go into settings, notifications and you should see the new tones listed.

Ha. I had set it up when I first got the phone. I added some CM7 notifications last night and for the life of me couldn't figure out how to set them again. I kept looking in email settings and Setting->Sound thinking I was crazy.

I use K9 Mail and it lets me change the sound to what ever you want.
Hi all,
Just wanted to know how i can change incoming system sounds now my phone has been rooted
1) I want to be able to change SMS, Email, Alarm?
2) Wanted to know were to store/place ringtone files?
3) Does anyone know if the standard alarm have a snooze function?
After the above i want to change to custom icons
a5ian300zx
The alarm clock has snooze by default.
For my ringtones etc, I have a folder on my SD named Media and sub folders marked notifications, ringtones, alarms, wallpapers. The phone seems to be able to make sense of this and shows the alarms in the alarm clock etc.
To change ringtones etc you go into the app and press the menu button. You should be able to change the tones etc in there.
For changing ringtones and sms tones, you go into settings. (on your home screen press menu) go to Audio (or Sound/Notifications, whatever our may be) and there you'll have the options to change type ringtone and sms notifications.
Setting different tones for every audio requires you to go into that app and change the settings individually.

this has worked you have to create the folder in the phones memory not external SD card.
how do i customise notification for each item i.e. I want a different one for SMS, EMail, Voicemail etc.
but the options only allows for one notification for all?
a5ian300zx
You need to go into each app and in the settings menu there should be an option for notifications.

Hi,
thanks for the replies,
Does anyone know if its possible to have different notification i.e. SMS, EMail, voicemail etc?
at the moment its seems like you can only have one notification sound for all.

I was hoping that someone could show me an app that will allow me to set a custom ringtone and a custom SMS ringtones. The MoPho doesn't have the ability to set a certain ringtone to one person and it uses the same notification sound for everything else. I was also hoping that I could get an app or mod that will allow me to customize the vibrating patterns for calls, emails, and texts. Does an app like this exist?
u can do seperate ringtones for all contacts by going into contacts pull up menu of yone of ir contacts then go into options, there it will ask what ringer u want.

Look for an app called "Lightflow" its a root app that should do exactly what your speaking about, lets you choose specific color for led, change vibrate settings, and ringtone settings for email, sms ,calls, etc. If your not rooted then not sure what to tell you, but if you are id def try out lightflow, ive been using it for a awhile now and i love it. Overall its pretty damn customizable for all the settings, especially the vibrate settings.

Is that it?
I'm not sure what the Bump policy is here...
Yeah thats the app i was talking about, it looks like a new update version, apparently mine just hasn't updated recently is all, but yeah thats it. Sorry for the long response time on my end
It slightly worries me cause it is constantly gaining permissions all the time. Is it safe?

Ive only had it come up requesting SU while on boot and if i change settings(i just hit the check to always allow). I can personally say i have had no issues with it, ive got a facebook, gmail, and few email accounts linked to it and it hasn't messed with those as far as ive ever noticed, and Ive used lightflow for about a month or two so far. Your call on it, if you don't feel its safe or what you want then dont load it up. To each his own!
Is it possible to set up different notification sounds for different functions? I would like to have a different notification for my Ring cameras as opposed to those for emails, texts, etc which are currently all identical. Is this possible? If so, how? TIA!
Yeah, Open the App Settings and Select the app you need to customize, then go to notifications and inside you'll find the option to set the type and ringtone you need. I've set alternate tones to work email app and personal email app this way.
