Hey,
i'm running ginger R2 and had some q's
i was wondering how to get the power control in the pull down notification for wifi/screen rotate etc.
Trying to get back the stock Vibrant keyboard that has T9, 9 button
how do i edit the Launcher, i dont like the 3-d one ( you cannot organize)
thanks
I love to use modified script / tweaked ROM's because of the speed, snappiness & obviously because it's awesome to have devs we love that work hard to bring us something better than "stock."
However, I remember clearly (every time I flash a new ROM (no matter how impressive & beautiful they are) that one of the real selling points for me was definitely the Samsung Vibrant's original "stock" theme (TouchWiz, not stock Android).
As far as aesthetics, there are very few (primarily status bar png's) things I always mod (Pitch black status bar BG, Honeycomb Accurate Battery MOD, sometimes white TouchWiz 2.3.3 wifi icons, I use the fonts from d4a, TouchWiz 2.3.3 data icons (cleaner, but "feels" TouchWiz, & prefer the large button Swype (beta).
Otherwise, I LOVE TouchWiz, especially the Samsung app icons - even though I left the TWiz launcher long ago) and would really appreciate not necessarily all answers...perhaps just a point in the right direction?
If you feel you've wasted your time reading this, I apologize. No need in flaming though. Thanks to anyone willing to take a minute to help me learn more. I love this stuff. Currently my worst obsession.
On to my questions:
Instead of "morphing" things, I mod png's with drag & drop via 7zip, sometimes prior to flashing, sometimes not [1] Is one method better than the other? (Pull & push with Root Explorer)
I've never had a problem doing step one [2] (maybe because of rebooting after the push & by not exiting Root Explorer before the reboot?)
[3] Can I damage the file system, scripts or optimization tweaks by modding png's like this?
I'm cool with APK Manager, Photoshop, swapping/modding png's, but I'm not comfortable taking a chance on messing up my OS to do this [REQUEST] on my own...
[4] [REQUEST] Are the dev teams willing/able to release each ROM with a stock TouchWiz theme for their ROM, or is there an easy way for ME to do this (without screwing anything up)? I know how to MetaMorph, NinjaMorph, etc...but nothing much about development.
Right now I'm running the 04/14/11 Stock TouchWiz KB5 Deodexed Leak with Voodoo, and it is fast & quite impressive.
With KB5 modem, battery is great but data & phone signal are Edge/1 bar @ home. With KA6 or KA7 modem, decent battery, 3G & H @ home, with 3 to 4 bars!
[5] Can running a KA6 modem on a KB5 hurt anything?
I want to be on the Ported KB5 2.2.1 because I want the latest US version (less bugs in my experience), but in Stock TouchWiz.
I realized the port wasn't the Touch Wiz I was expecting, so I switched back to Stock 2.2 KB5.
[6] Can I flash EDT's 100% Stock 2.2.1 theme over the V4G's KB5 2.2.1 port, or will it change the ROM •besides its png's•?
I still don't understand how is it possible to use a theme that works for both Bionix & Trigger...it doesn't make sense to me. [6] Is it because the MetaMorph only affects aesthetics (drawable hdpi)?
And if so, [7] I should be able to Metamorph any 2.2.1 with it, right?
[8] It's easy to MetaMorph flying animations in Trigger, etc...but how do I do that with a Samsung Stock Deodexed ROM?
Thanks a lot. I hope my questions help more than just me!
Billy

I installed the VillainROM 1.1, but I deeply miss the awesome gingerbread look I had when I installed Darky's ROM 10.1 on my old SGS 1.
I would like the:
- Gingerbread Overscroll Glow Effect
- Gingerbread Screen OFF animation
Is there any simple way to get it?

Pretty sure you can add CRT via VR Tweaks and if not there are some modded frameworks in the Dev section but have you tried Lite'ning ROM? It has all the effects you want plus a nice blue theme. I switched from VR and after coming from CM7 with Honeybread theme it is almost as good to look at!
Regards.
Thanks! I'll check that out. I also tried to cook a theme @ UOT. Still gotta wait till it's done though.
@Light'ning ROM: Well I personally really don't like the blue theme within Lite'ning ROM. I'd love to have the one from my old SGS1 (Darky 10.1).
Would it be possible to just take the framework-res.apk and systemUI.apk and that everything will be the same as Darky 10.1?
I would not use the framework from another phone. Also files would need to be resigned for VR

I got the zip file and flashed my phone with it. Works nice. I have the overscroll efect now, and through VR Tweaks I managed to get the CRT animation. However.... it comes with a very very ugly battery icon.
Might it be possible that if I install that mod, get the latest framework and systemUI from my phone, and then cook with it, that I would have the CRT-animation in it?
Because when I install the mod, and then apply the cooked theme, the CRT animation is gone.
Btw, the CRT animation is WHITE, normally it uses a sort of screenshot. Plus that animation starts you see 1 frame of black. Any notes on both of that?
When I do what I proposed, I actually do get the CRT-animation in de cook. However... it shows many artifacts when the animation plays. I am missing something probably...? It wants to use a screenshot I think, but instead it uses an image that is white with colorful dots and artifacts.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
EDIT:
Found out I had to download Chainfire 3D and install the driver in there.
EDIT2:
No luck.. Doesn't matter how I try: first apply zip, then install driver, or other way around. Always artifacts..
There are so many GB roms out there now. What's the difference between miui and say Simply Honey? I've only ever used that and Simply Stock. Is one better than the other as far as performance or is it more visual? Thanks!
Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel. Badass Rom \m/
Miui is mostly visual it is an overhaul of android ui its also fast but i multitasking menu is slow to start when playing games but it is cool also its smooth over all battery is avrage to bad 8-12 hrs in my experience an other gb roms is samsung roms on steriods an battery is great 12-20 for me froyo like 14-24 an its regular android with twiz on top of it an the browser is lag free on jvs an jvr roms an i prefer sammy gingerbread because its better over all

If I may explain in a slightly less feverish run-on-sentencey way than Jason, MIUI is built from the ground up, while most other Gingerbread ROMs are based on leaked i9000 ROMs from Samsung.
MIUI has a unique launcher that does away with the app drawer, instead putting all apps on your home pages which are easily organized into folders of your choosing. It also has many special features you can't find in the leaked i9000 gingerbread ROMs. For instance, long pressing a toggle like wifi or bluetooth will open up its settings.
MIUI is also, in my experience, a much smoother experience than Froyo and even leaked Gingerbread. The launcher has no lag with only a mild overclock, and apps load quickly. Even the phone itself starts up quicker than with other ROMs.
The best part of MIUI is in the customization by way of theming. All those special lockscreens that require custom ROMs and flashing to use? MIUI allows for anywhere from single swipe to, I'm not kidding, 15 button lock screens simply by downloading them through the online theme collection. You can change your icons, status bar, lock screen and wallpaper, dialer, SMS, and more by simply downloading a theme online through MIUI, and can even mix and match various components to your liking. SMS from Blue Dado Black combined with an animated lockscreen from some indecipherable Chinese name and a font from the Evolver theme, and on and on.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. If you want to know more, read the MIUI threads in the Development section. For me, I can't imagine leaving the ROM without something catastrophic happening.
Thanks man!! I'm gonna give one a try tonight.
One quick question, if I have the gb bootloaders I need to Odin the froyo one right? Also need to be on stock 2.1 or .22

Yes, you'll need a Froyo bootloader. I just installed Lithium V2.1 MIUI and wow, it's super cool. I'm trying to figure out the lockscreens.
of all roms that I have tried Simply Stock 2.3.5 JVS w/ 1.2 Talon Kernel is one badass rom!!!!!!!!!!! it is super fast with 0 bugs or forced closes and I have no desire to switch it for any other "pretty rom"

I have never tried a jv(anything) Tom but I did try every froyo I could get my phone on and I did miui in early augustvand it was a constant flash back and forth from cm7 to that.
I have noticed occasionally lag while loading apps like cnet tv and games (using chainfire pro).
What was the last miui you tried? I must say l, miui as is really stable and still fast, lithium rocks in speed, stock is my face so far when the powermod is applied.
I could not justify staying off of froyo until now.
Miui launches apps fast but are they faster once loaded in Samsung base rom's?
Also it has been since august that I tried any cm7 nightlies since gr90, is it just me or has miui surpassed cm7 in stability with less maunual fixes?
One thing is that the speaker on off for people to hear me is still happening on every miui I try
Hey guys,
I'm currently on Hyperdroid v5.2.21 which is great, but can be slightly laggy at times, and sometimes the screen won't turn on when I press the home or power button, and I have to restart the phone. I absolutely love the look and feel of it though, especially the Jkay AOSP Deluxe lock screen. For some reason, the Gallery takes 5-10 seconds to load sometimes, not sure if this is to do with the ROM or not as I don't have much in my gallery...
I tried the newest Hyperdroid (v6.1.17) but didn't like the fact that I can't use the Jkay AOSP Deluxe lock screen with it.
What other ROMS are available which allow you to keep the stock look + feel while using the Jkay AOSP lock screen? I want a ROM that is LIGHT as I use my phone for business purposes and I only use it for calls, messages, emails and camera.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!!
Thanks alot
Hi, I've had Bezke and checkrom v4, and they both have aosp lockscreem support via Jkay which is built into the rom. You get the cool crt-off effect to.

Hmm CheckROM seems a popular choice. GadgetCheck on xda states that the new version will probably be out tomorrow so I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and get the latest version!
Thanks a lot
