[Q] Evo kernel light sensor - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Am currently using the Evo kernel (latest provided via Bangsters 1.4) and have a somewhat working light sensor.
I can see the readings showing under CM6 settings ... user interface ... Automatic backlight ... Edit other levels
(Well it works sometimtes and sometimes not - I think it's happy after a fresh reboot but every time I change the screen brightness settings manually, it seems to knock it out)
Anyway, does anyone have any good settings for the various levels of brightness? Do you enable the filtering to smooth out the screen response? If so, again, what settings? Decrease hysteresis? On/Off? Setting?
Thanks all...

Dude....post it in the Bangsters topic....otherwise you will be flamed i think.
If everyone opens a new topic for a specific rom, this forum is getting messed up

Fair enough - just felt that this was a more general question for anyone using the Evo kernel/CM6, regardless of build...
(happy for this post to be removed and I will repost in Bangsters thread)

[Q] Can I add more quick settings?

Hello,
I did research and came accross this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1201724
My question is, would this allow you to choose what settings you have in the quick settings?
Im on the stock rogers firmware and the quick settings contain
- wifi
- wifi hotspot
- mobile network
- bluetooth
- gps
- all settings
- total memory
If possible, I would just like to add some sort of brightness toggle and a device rotation lock.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
edit : thought i should mention im on stock rooted
go back to that thread you researched, 4th post down is a extended quick settings. in it has volume, auto brightness and auto rotation added.

Okay I flashed it, I didnt get any more settings, and i lost the ability to transfer files through USB. When i plug it in, it will only notice USB debugging mode.
Edit : a simple reboot fixed that. But I dont have any more settings :S
Personally, I use extended controls! It lets you create custom widgets to control pretty much anything you want. It's highly customizable!
Other than the clock, my homescreen is 100% extended controls widgets. Notice on the bottom row, I have 5 shortcuts, instead of the standard four that sense gives us. And there are no labels, which to me makes the screen seem a bit less cluttered.

Do youve got a gsm oder cdma evo 3d?
for the cdma version there are a lot of roms out and also themes, that already got teh quciksettings included.
for the gsm version i've made a guide. Just have a look at my signature.
Would be nice, if you could post something there...to bump it. ^^

Thanks, checking it out as we speak and I definetly will bump it
As for the post above you, I've been using elixir widgets as a temporary solution but I dislike how its in my notification bar rather than quick settings.
I digress! Until I saw the link, I misunderstood what you were talking about! Lol... My bad! I'm going to look into that too! Seems pretty cool

i dont think setting the brightness to auto will increase battery life. it will decrease more likely! setting the brightness manually would be a good idea than auto. since auto requires energy to change the brightness now and then.
anyway keep up!

Yeah. What you said is true. Auto means, the sensor has to work also, to detect the luminosity of external environment. This will call other processes and so forth...eventually using battery...I always use manual method..
Thank you for your usefull information!

i think what he meant to say is official thread for battery life recommendations and discussion. let it be, this way, others may not create another battery performance thread. i think this has a nice touch by putting recommendations in OP.
had a similar thread in HD2 Android.

[Q] [ROM]ViperX+, CM Brightness Control doesn't work

UPDATE: [SOLVED]
Solution:
You have to make sure, that you DON'T move your finger downwards, while holding the statusbar.
The brightness control works very slowly, so don't wonder about not having immediate changes.
Probably something for the venom team, for improving the sensibilty of changing brightness by using the CM Brightness Control.
Thanks!
Original Question:
Hey there,
First of all, I tried to thank the Venom team and everybody else who is involved in the development of this extremely amazing ROM!
You made me kill my stock ROM and switch over to custom, and I'm deeply impressed!
Here is my problem:
In the statusbar tweaks you implemented the option, to control the brightness by sliding over the statusbar...
Well I knew this feature from other devices, but in my case, it doesn't work..
So I looked up my friend called Google, he explained me to make sure that auto-brightness is SWITCHED OFF.
WEll, of course IT IS!
Conclusion:
CM brightness control: Checked
Auto Brightness in Settings: Unchecked.
Tweak working: No

[ROM] MiGusta (build 130803) [MIUI]

MiGusta - MIUIv5 for the Droid DNA
MiGusta is a port of AdyScorpiusMIUI for the M7 to the DNA, ported on to a freshly built CM with a couple kernel changes to make it boot. This is only for the Droid DNA on Verizon.
If you download this rom and flash it to your previously rooted/unlocked/s-off device, I take no responsibility if something bad happens, it's all on you now. However I'll probably feel bad and try to help...
First and foremost, special thanks to...
AdyScorpius - for porting MIUI to the M7
chad0989, crpalmer, and the CyanogenMod Team - for getting CM on the DNA
lbxmobbin_1 - for helping me out with RIL issues
What works
Data (4g, 3g, calls, texting)
Camera
WiFi
Wireless charging
Mostly everything, but I haven't tested things like NFC or bluetooth, so they may be broken (if you can test this and let me know, that'd be super)
What doesn't work
Anything that's broken in CyanogenMod (by theory)
Bugs and Solutions
4g isn't enabled at boot - dial *#*#4636#*#*, go to Phone Information, scroll down to Set preferred network type and change it to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL), then toggle data off and on (via Settings or the notification toggles)
Performance may not be as great as stock AOSP roms. That's because this is a port, and not entirely built from source, not to mention it's MIUI. It's been smooth for me, but this rom may not be for you if you're into intense gaming. Also, if you're going to bring up benchmark scores, don't bother posting because benchmarks aren't worth anything.
Superuser isn't enable by default - This isn't really a bug, but since I'm sure MIUI is new to a lot of people there will be issues with this. Go to the Permissions app, go to ROOT, and enable permission monitor.
Led doesn't flash unless plugged in - go into Settings > Led and change the colors to Green
Making phone calls to numbers that begin with 1 don't work as expected - remove the 1 from the beginning (this is an MIUI issue)
All sent text messages will display as "failed" after a reboot fixed in 130717
I'd like to mention that I turned the recent apps button into the menu key, mainly due to the fact that MIUI doesn't have any settings that could enable menu functionality in the hardware keys.
Questions and Answers
Q: does this work on GSM/will you release a GSM or Butterfly version?
A: it might work on GSM, I personally don't know since I'm a Verizon customer. I am not going to release a GSM/Butterfly version of this rom. I am not going to risk doing something wrong and breaking someone else's phone that I can't personally test/debug on, sorry. If someone wants to release a mod that will make it work for GSM, then by all means go nuts and I'll add it to the OP, but I cannot provide any kind of support for it.
Q: will X kernel work on this rom?
A: short answer - no, long answer - maybe, I haven't had time to go and test every single kernel on this rom. This is an AOSP-based rom, so if you're going to test a kernel make sure it's for AOSP. I personally had to do a couple of small kernel mods to make this rom boot, if you tested a kernel and it doesn't work, ask the kernel developer to contact me and I can send them the goods.
Q: how do I do X?
A: Google it. I am not going to answer any questions if you haven't put in enough time and research to look it up yourself. MIUI is an entirely different system from AOSP, and there are different ways of doing things (such as permissions/superuser). If you Googled it and came up dry, then leave a reply and I'll try to help you out.
Q: X force closed/my phone rebooted out of no where/I'm having some other issue, how do I fix it?
A: explain what went wrong, what was the procedure to causing the issue, and most importantly provide a logcat. If you don't know how to get a logcat, Google it. Explaining the procedure might be enough for me to fix it, but a logcat will drastically help in me getting a fix.
Q: when is the next version coming out/when is this feature getting added/when anything?
A: no
Q: can you add X app in the next update?
A: no, I'm trying to keep MiGusta relatively slim, and unless there's a VERY good reason, I won't add it.
Q: I get an error when trying to flash, what do I do?
A: make sure that the md5sum of the file (which can be found next to the download link in the OP) matches the md5 of the file on your computer. I flash the rom personally before uploading it to make sure it's smooth sailing, so if it doesn't flash then chances are you just got a bad download. If you downloaded the rom more than once and the md5 of both are the same, but doesn't match the one I listed, then let me know because it means it was a bad upload (and my fault more than anyone's).
Q: do I need to flash gapps?
A: nope, they're included!
Q: can I use your rom as a base for my rom?
A: I'd prefer if you didn't, mainly because I spent days learning how to do all of this by hand, and I'd prefer if all my hard work wasn't kanged. If you want to try porting MIUI yourself and you've run into an issue, shoot me a PM and I'll gladly share my knowledge
Please note - I am a human, I have a life, I have a job, and once the summer is over I have school. I'm doing this as a hobby, so don't expect me to be lurking this thread all day and answering questions on demand. I can't promise this will be updated as soon as a new version of MIUI/AdyScorpiusMIUI comes out, but I can promise that I'll try my best to release updates as soon as I can, and that I'll try to answer as many questions as I can.
DO NOT ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THIS POST IN ITS ENTIRETY.
This is your only warning. If you ask something that has been addressed above, expect to be ridiculed.

Performance on the home screen is slow when moving icons and folders, but everything else seems relatively smooth. I changed the I/O scheduler to deadline in performance options which seemed to smooth things a bit. The games I've tried run without lag. I noticed the MIUI Weather widget isn't installed, and the status bar shows 'Verizon Wireless' in front of notification icons. Has anyone been successful in activating their Xiaomi account? The page doesn't load for me.

Wake lock
2 possible fixes.....
First you could disable HD overlays, I know that works
The other possibility could be Pollution patch. I have never used it as I haven't had the need. But I know many swear it will cure everything but cancer. The patch I believe is more of a Kit Kat cure all, not necessarily specific to Kandy Kat.
To the OP, due to the lack of development with our beloved but aging device, not sure it is necessary to create a Q&A here for the rom. Sorry, but I don't exactly believe that the thread is blowing up over there.

I have no idea what or who Q&A bot is, I try to look up profile and it says "invalid".
If it is a rom specific question it is fine to post there. If it is a device specific question, I would take it here. There is not so much development going on here that the thread are blowing up.
If Mr.Bot was upset about my response, he would have surely had something to say.

if u are having wakelock issues..the two possible fixes are as follows
1) set governor to wheatley.
2) check out my thread about an xposed module that helps with kernel panic related to system. Link
The issue the above member is referring to with hw disabling is the screen flicker...and yes. Disabling hw overlay will solve that issue,as will pollutions aroma patch or a simple build prop edit.
I use both the above fixes ( 1&2 ) and wakelocks are a thing of the past for me. As for the screen flicker. Most devs bake the build prop edits in now.
I'm not a dev, i'm just a flash junkie. if i knew what i was doing i would attempt to build it myself, but is it possible that the fast charge feature of the diablo kernel from the hellybean rom at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2457323 could be built into the uber kernel? am i posting in the right place? sorry if i'm not. i love this rom and have no bugs so far but battery life/charging time suck. thanks to those who put time and effort into doing something that makes me feel like an idiot. thanks in advance.

I have flashed the camera fix, stopped my cam from FC'ing. The camera takes great pictures. The recording delay while annoying is something I can live with, however.. It doesn't record anything. Acts like its recording, and such, but doesn't seem to write anything anywhere.
Any ideas?
Just installed CandyKat-quincyatt-4.4.4.release.v1.6.0-Official-20140922 on my note, but now the hard navigation buttons on my device do not work at all, and there is an extra navigation bar on the screen with the same functions as the existing buttons on the device. I found in the candykat options a checkbox to turn off the software navigation bar, but when I do this I still do not have any functionality with the real navigation buttons on my note.. How do I enable the real nav buttons?

Click to collapse
ok.. more problems with nav bar: I tried to turn off the navigation bar in the candy interface options and reset the device to see if it would re-enable the hardware buttons, but now I cannot use the hardware buttons and trying to reenable the on-screen navigation bar does nothing. Clicking the checkbox for navigation bar and nothing shows up on screen. Also, in the same candy interface > navigation bar menu options, if I click the "Show landscape" checkbox it crashes the process com.android.systemui 100% of the time.
EDIT #3:
So I was going to try and manually edit the build.prop file to see if I can reenable my hardware keys, only to discover that this ROM does not support USB file transfer. The device charges fine when connected to USB, but does not even appear in device manager on my computer.. changing usb ports does nothing, enable/disable usb debugging on device does nothing.. also the device randomly freezes, shows a pinky-orange screen and reboots when going into the settings menu. This ROM is too broken, I don't know how anybody is using this. I'm going to have to switch to something more stable with working USB and options.
Android L
