Reinstalling MobiTV - Vibrant Themes and Apps

Hi! I have a tmo Vibrant running a custom rom. I need to reinstall MobiTV so that I can cancel the subscription. I downloaded the apk from this thread:
h t t p :// forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=763580
and the app seems to run. However, it complains that it is "Unable to authorize user". Anyone have an approach to resolving this problem? Thanks!

Why don't you nandroid your current setup, use odin to flash back to stock. Cancel subscription. Root, download rom manager, and nandroid your backup? If subscription will not cancel when flashed to stock, before root again. Call tmobile tell them you dont want the subscription anymore, and you did a delete user data and now it wont let you. Chances are you will speak to 5 different reps until you get to atsg and a trouble ticket will be sent to the core fault isolation team to manually cut the subscription.

Right! Which is why I went to the trouble of pushing MobiTV back onto the phone in the first place. Calling tmo is a final option, but it seems that it should be possible to authenticate the app. I am, after all, really me.

So. I noticed that MobiTV is trying to authenticate to ATT. Duh! The apk that I installed is from a Capitivate, not a Vibrant. Anyone have a MobiTV apk from tmo?

I had to reinstall it as well (same reason!). Look for a thread that has all of the stock Vibrant APK's, I believe that was where I found it.

Download this rom, and extract on your computer. Should be in the system/app

This is solved. Once I figured out what my stupid mistake was, I got on the right track. I actually pulled the apk out of a different stock Vibrant rom, but the process was the same. The app is now running. Thanks for the help!

[REQ]Myfaves.apk can anyone get it to work?

I seen someone post this question in the Dev section, but I have the apk file, and tried to put it in the system/app, fix permissions and had no luck. Thought someone with more knowledge than myself could get it to work. I know I can operate them from the website, but I like the ability to do it strait from my phone.
Attached is the apk , just need some help to get it to work.
This did work on my G1 with CM 5.0.8 which is an eclair build, but the command I used to get it to work will not work on the vibrant.
I have MyFaves working fine on my Vibrant, it was in one of the Vibrant ROM builds so I just backed it up in Titanium Backup and then when I installed Eugene's Vibrant9 I reinstalled MyFaves and it works. I don't remember whose ROM I took it from so let me try to figure that out because I don't want to post without giving credit. I've just been backing up Apps and Widgets that I like from different ROM builds and installing them on Eugene's Vibrant9, so unfortunately I don't remember which ones came from where but I'll look into it and post once I can give proper credit.
I thought T-mobile was phasing out myfaves

Mind sharing the APK you are using and where it's located? I would love to update my myfaves but I can't do it from my phone or online (site keeps giving me an error). Thanks.

Unless it was altered by a DEV there is no credit to give, the app was created by TMobile, I would love to know where you got it, or just put up the apk, at worst case scenario if you cannot remember and it was altered to work the Dev will say something, but its just a tmoible app, so please post what you got so we can see if it works for the rest of us

I know for me when I use the newest internet explorer, there is a security pop-up that comes up when I go to the myfaves part, if you click yes, that breaks the program, you have to click no everytime you load a page within the myfaves area, I figured that out by accident, but if you click yes, then the page will not load any of the options you have selected. So just click no to the popup at everypage within the myfaves part and it should work for you.
just dont know what to do next
I downloaded your MyFave.apk. Installed it on Samsung Vibrant 2.1 in system/app using root explorer. Then I went over to rom manager and clicked fix permission. after reboot a myfaves icon appeared in my app draw. Heres where it starts to suck. I click the icon and it opens and closes extremely fast and a bubble window at the bottom screen says myfaves is off. Well i dont know how to turn it on. Has anyone else had this happen before... Please help its driving me nuts that I cant figure it out

New thoughts to get myfaves.apk working
Sorry if my last post seemed a bit noobish, in all honesty forums are very new to me. Let me go threw what I have done and what I have been thinking might work. Upon my last post I was on 2.1 eclair build, in the recent months I have upgraded to using Team Whiskey products. I am currently on Bionix-v 2.2 build w/ voodoo. Anyways I digress. I can install MyFaves apk with no force closures issues. I have to use root explorer to move to system/app and manually change permissions to rw-r-r then reboot. Icon will appear in app draw. upon clicking the icon I get a myfaves off notice (below is a picture) again no force closes thou. So I have attempted to refresh myfaves from tmobile website hoping that would turn myfaves on. I have observed thou that it says will only work for compatable phones. As mine for example never refreshed. Now heres my thought
What if we change the build.prop to reflect a myfaves compatable phone? Does anyone think this would trick the myfaves server into refreshing my myfaves contacts? I also have noticed that there is 3 differnt size my faves apk roaming around the web and different sites. The one that worked for me to get this far will also be posted below. It was the smallest size apk available and NOT THE ONE POSTED HERE ORGINALLY.
Well if anyone has any insite on this my ears are open. For some reason this is a lil project of mine that I keep coming back to and still quite cant let go.
Again sorry for previous post, and if there is another thread I should post this in please let me know also.
Maybe together we can give this project new life!
Following this thread. I have a Samsung Galaxy S (Vibrant) and MyFaves on my Grandfathered plan; would love to get this app working.

This is not MyFaves, it's just a favorites manager.
A functioning app would be great. I am tempted just to change the build prop but I don't know what adverse effects that would have on the phone. If any one wants to test it out I can tell you how to do it.

Well, I tried copying the file to my sdcard and tried to install it... it failed.
I tried to copy it to my system/apps folder and I get an "Insufficient Perminssion!" message.
I'm using the OTA updated ROM T-Mo pushed out like 9 months ago for my Mytouch Slide... non-rooted.
So, I guess I need to be rooted... to try again.
Thank you. This is so *****in'. I am stoked that it works. Nice update from the MyFaves.apk I had that did no longer work. =-)

HOW TO:Root, Install Clockwork, Remove Bloatware, and more*updated 3/2/11*

I compiled this for someone at DroidForums and I figured I would post it here.
In order to complete all of these steps, you will need:
ROM Manager
Titanium Backup Pro
Root Explorer
SetCPU
Odin v1.3
A file manager like Astro to install the APKs.
SetCPU can be downloaded here for free: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=505419
It can also be bought from the Market. The others also need to be purchased or downloaded.
In order to root, follow the instructions here: http://forum.androidcentral.com/verizon-fascinate-rooting-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html
Here is a link for Mac users: http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...s/34188-rooting-using-mac-video-tutorial.html
ClockworkMod Recovery Installation instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021 You can also flash the new recovery with Rom Manager, but for now, I recommend the recovery in the link.
At this point, you should be rooted with CWM Recovery. Now, it's time to install Froyo.
Follow the link here, and you will find Odin files for quickly installing EB01: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/sa...roms-w-root-new-clockwork-updated-2-11-a.html
NOTE: You will need to wipe when you go from 2.1 to 2.2. Be sure to back up everything before the upgrade.
Now, you will need a rom. I would recommend SuperClean by Adrynalyne: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=910921 It includes a kernel and there are Voodoo and NonVoodoo versions. This will remove all bloatware, including TouchWiz and Bing. However, the browser will still search with Bing. Then, use the themes sub-forum to find a theme.
You can use ROM Manager-Download-sonofskywalker3 to find all sorts of options. Stock apps, de-Binged browsers, new boot animations, widgets, etc. Anything you didn't want removed can be downloaded there.
If you need to return to stock, you'll need to use Odin. Ask any questions in this thread and I will do my best to answer them. You can also post a thread on XDA(make sure it's in the right section!), or visit the IRC at: webchat.freenode.net channel: #samsung-fascinate
I take no credit for anything here.
NOTE: ROOTING WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY. I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE.

I'm not sure. I'll edit my OP and say it's very risky, since you are the only person I have heard of that it doesn't cause issues.
uh oh
I just deleted all these apps. Am i in trouble when froyo comes out?
It looks like wireless tether doesn't work for me, and I did delete 3G Mobile Hotspot, so maybe it makes sense to go slow at this before jumping in. I'm not having any problem connecting to wi-fi, though, so if that's all you want then maybe you'll be fine. I use backup assistant so I can't comment on what could happen if that's deleted.
Freezing/hiding apps seems to be the best way to make sure you aren't looking for backup apps somewhere...

Yes it is. That's why I recommend it. I also find it easier than moving them to the SD card with root explorer like a lot of people are doing, but to each his own.
EDIT: I tried Wireless Tether, and it started just fine. I didn't try connecting anything to it, but I know it at least starts. I can't tell if they blocked tethering or if deleting Mobile Hotspot affects it.

Here's the system dump: http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/32839-fascinate-system-dump.html
I have removed [moved] both Backup Assistant and Mobile 3G Hotspot and I have no issues with Wireless Tether. Before assuming Mobile 3G Hotspot is the cause of your issues, try verifying Wireless Tether works for you beforehand. There was a thread dedicated to Wireless Tether not working by a senior member only to find out it was user error.
There's more than one way to move/remove apps and I'm sure we all can confirm deleting .apk files is NOT the best option. I've used Titanium Backup to freeze apps which I could not locate the .apk for, but I prefer moving the .apk files. This is because I've been in a force-close loop after moving a file and the only solution would be to move the file back and reboot the phone. This can be done via ADB. If you freeze an app and you get in a force-close loop you may not be able to use Titanium Backup's GUI to un-freeze an app.
I move to the SD card to free up space on the phone, which comes in handy if you're replacing stock apps from other places. Plus, it gives me an easy view of what to move to/from the /system/app folder if I need to put apps back when there is an OTA (or if someone asks me "what apps did you remove?")
Move/rename/freeze... pick your poison, but please don't delete.

Yup. If you delete, you have to handle the process of moving apps from the system dump. I don't think a factory reset would work, since the apps aren't there and it has nowhere to restore them from.
Just installed CMW and removed bloatware from these instructions, everything went great. Appreciate your time to do the write up.
I'm still interested in doing the lag fix, I did notice a difference with my phone. I ran it one week with it, and one week without and I've noticed a difference. Anyone else running it with all this setup?

The lag fix seems to have very mixed results. Some people say it has caused lag, some have trouble un-doing it, some notice no difference. So I haven't taken the risk. I also need the internal memory it takes away. I would consider it if it would fix those occasional stutters and freezes, and actually make a difference.

[Q] I am not able to log into Google Account...

Hi I just bought Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant a few days ago and unlocked it.
Now the problem is that I have not been able to figure out my Google account. Due to this, I have not been able to log into Android Market. So, I am sitting around doing nothing with my Vibrant as I can't download any app or game...
When ever I try to log in, it gives me the following error:
"This could be a temporary problem or your phone may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues, call Customer Care."
I am using Wifi to connect to internet. I have confirmed Internet access by browsing. I can access every site and also use gmail in a web browser.
I read somewhere that a hard reset may work, but that didn't work either. I cannot contact T-Mobile as I don't live in USA and have an unlocked phone.
So, I am in a pretty helpless condition, please help me figure things out in this wonderful world of Android...
Thanks a lot!

Why dont you install a custom rom and give it a try?
I am new to Android and I am not confident enough to try a custom ROM yet... I will consider it down the road but for now I need to get into the Android Market...
Any help will be greatly appreciated...
Thanks.
Do you have a data package? Correct me if i'm wrong, I believe the first inital android account setup must be done through the network...
I tried with my network service as well. By the way I am not in USA and am using the mobile on a different network. I have used WiFi and Network EDGE service to connect without any success.
I never got the chance to setup my account for the 1st time the mobile was turned on, as I bought it from someone else (who most probably skipped that part)...
Its becoming really frustrating, as I use the phone for calls and messaging and that's all... I tried the hard reset but even that didn't give me the initial setup thingy...
Any idea or suggestion is appreciated...
Thanks a lot!
I had this problem a couple of times. It wouldn't sync with FB or Google. Then magically one day i had all of my contacts and all of my apps onmy phone, with out me trying to dl them. o_0
Its fairly easy to flash a rom. I was amazed by how simple it was, coming from a G1. I mean, download OCLF, it will root the phone for you. Then download RomManager and come on to XDA and dl the zip of the rom you want. Move into the root of the driectory, open RomManager and select the zip. Done. Of course certain roms require more work, but tis simple.

Please help me...
I have installed ROM Manager 2.5.0.4. But when I click on anything, it asks me to download CM Recovery. I touch 'Yes' and it gives error that maybe my phone is not connected to internet or I dont have space in my SD card...
I am now starting to suspect internet problem with my phone, though I can use internet on my browser... Besides that, I cannot open the maps application nor youtube or any other google based service...
I really dont know what to do now...

[Q] SMS/Texting Not Sending and Receiving After Rooting.(Verizon Fascinate)

I have just recently rooted my phone and now I can't receive or send text messages. I was wondering if there was an app that I may have removed on accident. I still can receive phone calls tho. Thank you for any information.
What else did you do besides rooting? As far as I know just rooting will not break MMS or SMS.
What method did you use to root? If anything I would say your radio is wrong but we would need to know more information.
I tried to put Froyo on the phone but failed at it twice, so I decide to restore to factory settings and just root with FascinateRoot_v02. Installed Titanium Backup, SetCPU, Root Explorer. Went through Titanium Backup and removed the Verizon Apps like Music, Video, Nav, etc. and some other bloat ware.
When you say "went back to factory" how did you go about doing that?
I used this to go to Froyo the first time, there is one that is just the leaked version a clean version and all of the SuperClean roms.
http://forum.androidcentral.com/ver...tom-roms-w-root-clockwork-updated-3-25-a.html
It's possible you deleted something when deleting the bloatware that you needed. I would suggest going back to stock using the stock odin files. Which is here I think, I have the files saved to my computer now.
http://www.dkszone.net/samsung-fascinate-dl09-odin-download
Since you are using TB I would freeze apps before you remove them completely so you can be sure they wont mess up your need to have apps
make sure there is no +1 in the number you are texting... as in +1-999-999-999

Thank you, texting is working again.
Also I was wondering what would be an easy ROM to install that is Froyo?

hmmmm ok, well i saw that but skipped over it
because on all my other roms/including stock, i dont remember it being an app,it would just auto-connect
and it was always a system apk as well
let me go check it out though
It was excluded because CM10 has absolutely nothing to do with ATT. Or any phone for that matter. So unless somebody kangs CM10 and adds in an app, it's going to always be as bare bones Android as you can get.
Essentially, CM10 isn't ever a bloat removed version of any phones stock ROM, because it's build from aosp source, so the bloat was never there to begin with, and likely wouldn't be added in anyways.

I like that app as well. That wsa the only thing I didn't like about my ROM, so I did a nandroid, restored to stock, pulled that system app, and restored my nandroid.
Lucky for you and anyone else that wants it, I just happen to have placed it in my Dropbox.
Make sure to place it in /system/app (Don't install it like a normal APK) and change permissions to rw-r--r--
You will need to manually connect to attwifi the first time if you haven't already.
WISPr_postpaid.apk
I use att smart wifi from the play store, its the same thing

the system app one, like if you're at mcndonalds , will connect to it automatically (mcndonalds is one of the stores on ATnT wifi partnerships)
if you didnt have the app, you can still connect(its free wifi no password) but you would have to first open up a browers, read the agreement, and hit accept blah blah, before you can start using the wifi. again the system app skips all that and just connects you

It also skips all the payment info at some places that still charge for WiFi, so long as it's powered by AT&T. I wouldn't mind having this feature back as well, even though I'd rarely ever use it. Honestly, my cell is faster than the WiFi at any Starbucks or McDonalds around here. But I can see a use for it while traveling. Maybe download one of the stock ROM flashable zips and just extract the necessary apk, put it in /system/app and see if it will work that way. I'd try myself, but I'm a tad busy lately and already in trouble for all my downloading this month.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the one on Play is too bloated. I don't want that junk handling all my WiFi.
Is this what you guys are looking for

I just rooted Sony Ericsson Xperia X10a and was going through the cleanup list when I came across this file. I wasn't sure what this file was for until I read this post. I am cleaning it up but here is a copy - in case you can make use of it.

Good call. He's clearly not as crafty and trustworthy as you, Mr. Replying-to-a-year-old-post. You're really the gold standard in solid membership.
Boom!

Well, Mr. Useless Retort, I was searching for this very apk and was about to download it until I looked at his stats. You see, the fact that a post is a year old doesn't make a lot of difference if it has information you need. You see, Mr Useless, that's why the forum goes back many years.
Note that my reply wasn't intended for him, it was to warn off anybody else who might think about downloading this.
See how that works??
I think you can get this apk from the market, or what I do is google for apks -- especially older ones when the market updates me and the update sucks. I haven't been burned yet.

Googling for the apk is what brought me to this thread. I've never been burned with a download, either, but then I've never downloaded one from somebody with a single post.
