So I Downloaded An App From A Random Web Site, And It Wont Let Me Install It, I Get This Error MSG...
"For Security Your Phone Is Set To Block Installation Of Applications Not Sourced In Android Market"
Ive Looked All Over My Phone For A Way To Change This Setting But For The Life Of Me I Cant Get It To Allow, PLZ Help, Its Frustrating As Hell.
Hi
If you go to Settings>Applications> Unknown Sources
You can change it here.
Same happened to me when I purchased a game, just changed the option back after it had installed.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
I Don't Have That Option, =(
Settings>Applications> all i get is "Manage applications" or "Development"
Under Development There Is An Option Marked "Allow Mock Locations"
But After I Click It, It Has Absolutely No Effect On My Phone In Any Way As Far As I Can Tell...
My Phone Is Un-Touched Besides A Few Downloaded Apps N Games, But Every time I Consider Rooting Or Whatever I Look Into It, I Get So Lost, Confused, Turned Around I Lose Nerve lol

Might be best saving your bandwidth for 2.1 then. Debranding would probably help but you might as well just wait.
Thanks boss, its just frustrating but i appreciate the help bro.
If you root your AT&T X10a you can use the method for the captivateto re-enable non-market apps. The location for the settings.db file is slightly different than the ccaptivate though. I created a thread about it. Search for ATT non-market.
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Ya But The Whole Root Thing Gets Me So Lost, Ive Been Searching XDA + Google + Every Other Tech Site I Can Find And Ive Literally Read Every Thread On Rooting/De Branding/ECT. For The Past 3 Days Ive Had Off Work, And I Still Would Have Better Luck Doing Open Heart Surgery I Know Its Simple But For Some Reason I Just Cannot Follow, =(

To root, dl x10 root and adb push it onto your phone, instructions are in the sdk you dl, then run the root app and you should be good

So Wats The Deal W The Whole Rom Thing? And Why Are Some Rooting apk's Small Ans Some Are Huge, N Which Is The Correct Way To Approach It?
No root necessary but debrand is required.
You can thank AT&T for limiting your device's ability to function.
Isn't it nice to pay huge fees and get your content edited?
I know, I'm on AT&T also.

So Debrand Is Wat I Need? And How Did U Debrand Ur x10a, And How Do I Find Out If My X10a Is "R2BA026"?
I have done both methods and rooting has worked out better for me. Better performance and better battery life. Also, as I said, you can easily re-enable non-market apps. AT&T is a newer OS build than all the others. Once you remove all the bloatware the phone is much faster.
If you really want to get the most from your phone, learning to use adb is important. If you concentrate on getting adb working, it will make all the other hacks easier to understand.

You have to use ADB from your PC to install this apk and then you can run it to root your phone. You can try Android Central Sideload Wonder Machine but a few people have been having trouble getting it to work. It works for me with my AT&T X10 just fine though. When you run this app it will allow you to select the .apk file and then install it to the phone.
AT&T has blocked all non-market app downloads but you can definitely bypass this setting. I was successfully able to install non-market app by the ADB method as Naplesbill suggested. You will have to download the android sdk and familiarize yourself with ADB. This can take some time, but well worth it!
See this handy post on how to do so:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719
An issue that came up for me is that the device id doesn't get recognized by your computer. I got it to work by installing the SE update service on my computer and followed the steps to update the software on the phone. This step will install a SE Flash Driver on your computer. I restarted my computer and somehow it worked.
I then followed the adb install method and got non-market apps installed without rooting it. If you want to root, you can use the adb method to install the one click root and then you are done. However, rooting you AT&T device does not automatically allow you to install non-market apps. It will still be blocked!!! You have to adjust systems.db settings in order it to change it. That's the step I'm at right now. Going to do it after work tonight.

So, I got an Atrix a few days ago and decided that it would be a good idea to root it. I ran the GingerBreak.exe file that i found on this site. I followed the instructions to the letter and got a reboot when it was done. It now has an app on there called Superuser, as it is supposed to. To the best of my knowledge the root was sucsessfull, however, I try and install CWM recovery, so that i can install something other than MotoBlur, and when i click the app to install from my sd card it tells me that for my own protection i can only run apps from trusted places. I have seached through as many forums as my eyes can handle and if anyone can tell me how to get this damb thing to work the way i want it to.

Be right with you one sec...
Ok, sorry, first check to see if you have the option to check unknown sources, under the settings -> Application Settings.
Furthermore, I think the best way for you to do it and also get you comfortable with the file structure of your new phone would be to download Root Explorer & SQLite Editor from the market. Yes, I know they cost a few $$ but you will use them both in the future, and they are well worth it.
Once those are installed, use Root Explorer to navigate to /data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
Click on settings.db and it will open with SQLite Editor.
Select "secure"
Change the value of "instal_non_market_apps" from 0 to 1, by holding down on 0 and selecting edit field. Save Changes, and back out to Root Explorer and exit.
Phone may require a re-boot.
You should now be good to go for installing non market .apk files.
Plus, now that you know how to do all that, you can also try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=980636
After getting CWM installed, I would suggest installing a P-ROM, such as Gingerblur or GladAtrix. These will de-odex your system and get rid of the bloatware:
Gingerblur:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991595
GladAtrix:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1019097
Also, you may want to attempt to unlock the boot loader (if your on a US AT&T Atrix), that way once true ROMs start coming out, you can flash them too.

You gotta get something enabled called sideloading working. look for something called gladenable http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1017373 that'll do it or grab droid explorer http://de.codeplex.com/ that will force the install from your comp without sideloading enabled.
You can also check you have root by using the following free app from the Market:
Root Checker
Rooted with Gingerbreak

Hi can you unroot ?
I was like you at first. I rooted a couple days ago but I couldn't download any untrusted sources apps. I was gonna go the sideloading route or use gladenabler or something. But I ran out of time near a pc to load all that stuff. So I was searching root android apps on the market and came across one called Non-Market apps enabler. It costs $1.39 or something. I was skeptical of it but I said since so cheap, let me try it out. I downloaded n installed. The app works flawlessly n like a charm. It brought the option into settings to check off allow untrusted sources download n install. It works. Ever since then, I'm now downloading any n every app I want. From the market or not. This is the fastest way to get the option checkbox untrusted sources into your rooted phone. I thought it was b.s. Bit it really works and I don't have to do all that sideloading or putting glandenabler or all that into my phone. I have the checkbox marked off now n I download what I want. Good luck. N remember, it's called Non-market apps enabler. I'm on froyo 2.2.2 build 4.1.8.3 , rooted using gingerbreak and it worked for me instantly!
Is there any site or source on the web that provides downloads of old versions of Android Market apps? This would be for apps that are now updated or no longer available on the Market? I am looking for a site similar to "OldVersion.com" which has some old/classic PC software (but this would be something for android apps instead)?
Thanks if anyone knows of a source or sites.
CustomShortcut gone?
The app that I am looking for in the above post was a free one called CustomShortcut APK. I now have it on one of my two phones (the other phone had it but was lost and replaced). I have tried looking for a developer page for this app but no luck as everything seems to point back to android market as the source link for download.
Does anyone know of a way or source for me to get this APK back on my other phone? Is there a way to copy it from one phone to the other? I am assuming that it was removed from the market because it may not be compatible with ICS but I am not running ICS. The application was made by appli.club.
Are you rooted? If so use root explorer to look for the .apk in the /system/app folder and copy or email it to the other phone and install it.

No sadly I am not rooted. Is that how this could be done? I have an HTC phone (Sensation) and I like my "sense" gui. Don't want to wipe it out by rooting (that is what would happen, right?) If access to the apk is possible with rooting, then I guess my question would be, does anyone else here have CustomCut on their rooted phone? (Or possibly know of any website that would have those apk's available for download). I would be willing to pay if someone would take the time to send me a replacement copy.
just google for any app you want like this:
"title" "versionnumber" "apk" "download"
for example:
android market 2.9 apk download

Rooting will not wipe out your phone or change it other than giving you super user privileges. That way you will have access to get to the system apps folder.
I notice apktop keeps old versions around. But part of the reason I like Titanium backup is because I have a fail safe if a new update to an app is bad, as I can just restore from the last backup the older version.

Well I am not really too concerned about it wiping out my phone, but I thought I had read many posts here talking about once you root your phone the native skin from the manufacturer is eliminated (for HTC that would be the "Sense" user interface). Can you please confirm? Is this not true? HTC Sense will remain exactly the same after rooting my phone?
The other thing that has made me cautious is that my phone runs perfectly now and I see so many threads on the xda boards here and over at various android forums that start off with "My ____ app is not working right since I rooted...." Just a little daunting for a newbie like myself.

Thanks very much for the site suggestion. I have been trying to search for the CustomShortcut APK over there but no luck ...so far (the site search is not that easy to use). I have even tried to seach the site externally using google but, unfortunately, still no luck.
Wait for someone else to confirm on the htc, but nothing changed on my droidx. I just had superuser privs. All of the "this app quit working" is when people flash custom roms. You don't do that when you just root. But you have to be rooted in order to do things like that. Lol.
Rooting gives you the power to do that if you want to.
When I rooted my droidx, I did it just so I could have the power to do other things if I wanted. I am still on factory rom. But I am able to get to parts of the phone that are off limits if I wasnt rooted. I made it where I could tether, later I got rid of bloatware, etc.

Thanks once again for the reply. Now that you mention it, I remember reading the terminology "flashed" rom and thought they were similar or the same thing as rooting. One other question, once a phone is in a rooted state, if I was to go in and copy the APK for my replacement phone and put it on there could I then "unroot" lol ...sorry if this is not a word... so that my phone was no longer open? I had read somewhere (perhaps I heard it on a TWIT or Android podcast) that when your phone is in root state that anyone (ie: potentially bad software) has easier access to your phone's vunerable areas.

yes you can unroot. As for easy access after you are rooted to vulnerable areas, they can only get access if you let them. If an app wants super user privileges, you will get a pop up from su(the super user apk) telling you that some app is wanting privileges. You can grant or deny access. The only things on my phone that have ever given me a pop up are things that i downloaded and know need su access. Wifi tether, root explorer, adfree, etc.
I have found a site that keeps older version of an android app. It's called Android Drawer.
Hope it helps

Hey
Hello sachin, I have a similar problem. I would recommend you please do not install non-hcl market apps in the tablet. I am just back from the service center. Deposited the tablet today. The internal memory has a write problem & no matter how much i tried, the settings & the non-market apps i installed are not removing/changing. The tablet is good but i am responsible for screwing it up. Have patience & let the developers release a custom rom or mod for the U1.

It was the 4th day after the purchase. i installed everything i could in it through apk files. I once connected a 3g tata docomo stick in it & bamm!! It was blank! I read the manual & pressed the reset switch with a pin & it worked. The tab booted up & to my surprise no matter how much i tried i could not uninstall any of the applications, change any of the settings. As if it got write protected. Whenever i rebooted the tab it came back in the same state, read-only. The service center people are saying it maybe replaced. What do you think i should do? Does this have to do something with the root? I tried to install the 4 apk file google play setup (one by one install). I even connected it to the pc & formatted the inbuilt memory but it all came back astonishingly!

I have not tried dongle yet..
Hmm thats a sad situation.
Can you tell me what all you tried putting and removing since u bought this tab??
Like rooting. and apps and what kind of mods u tried does not matter they passed or failed.
Let me know .
Yes i was surprised it got screwed. things like these dont happen in androids. Anyways i am thinking it was a defective piece.
I installed the step by step four apk android market installer, another normal google play .apk file, all sorts of apps from apktops.com etc. It was working fine. It just got hanged once when i plugged in the stick & after resetting it from that position everything went wrong after that. as if the tab went into read-only mode. I could not change the settings or remove/install any apps. After every reboot it went back into that state. I think it has something to do with encrypt. Check you tab settings & tell me what do you think about encrypt??
The service center people are yet to call me. I hope they replace it.
Once it also gave me an error like "key chain not responding" or something. After that is got screwed.

It seems like that you encrypted your tab first and then during reset it might have changed the file settings to read only mode.
Dont worry its a software issue, they will fix it.
May be its a glitch with their software only. May be they have not done the proper testing before releasing the tab out in the market.
What i would suggest dont think its ur mistake tell them its their mistake.
Dont tell them you downloaded apps from different source.
Hopefully everything should be fine.
Can you tell me
1)Were you able to use google play market properly?
2)Did u face this issue that if you run some apps the screen goes upside down. I mean to say we have ME written at the top and when i run some apps the screen needs to be rotated 180 degrees to make it run properly.
I dont think the service center people have enough knowledge about the new tablet. I had a talk with their technician & he said it might be replaced. I was expecting it as its a new launch & its ICS. actually i saved a few apk files on the internal memory & as you know no matter how much i tired i cannot delete them. So that is worrying me as they will find out & confront me for the same.
Google play did worked but whenever i tried to install any app from it, it crashed & then didnt run again (until reinstall) & i got the error message "stopped unexpectedly" or something. I guess it needed root access because the tab was not permitting any non-hcl market apps to run on it.
And for your 2nd question, maybe that did happen but i didnt realize it because i used the tab just for 3 days & its hard to recall what i did.

Thanks! It means google play never worked. Actually in order to make it work it needs to be installed using the rom installation and some files needs to be changed as well to make it work.
As far as hcl support is concerned , all i can say they are horrible , i spoke to a tech support guy and he said i can install any app using google he wanted to say if the app is not there in the market i can download it from google with the extension apk and i can use it . he also confirmed it would not void the warranty .
I asked him for pc software and guess what he said. Sir you find the software on google. Then i told him to share the link then he gave some sendspace link which was not working. As i am working and i dont have access to the tablet right now. They were insisting on the serial number of the tablet which i was not carrying while i was calling them up.
Dont worry about your tab , it willl be fine.
I am looking for someone who can help me in rooting this device. it seems like this tab is not rooted yet. I have an app root check it says device is rooted but when i go to cache folder its all empty and when i try to go there using shell it says access denied.

HELP
Hi, I would be grateful if someone could help me root and install a custom rom on this device. Please refer to the 3 images showing detailed information about my tablet.
Thank you very much for your help.
hey did you ever get this rooted?
Hi guys. I am also very much interested in root for this device. If we manage root on this it will become extremely useful. Please lets keep the thread active. II havent been in this forum for a while now as I didnt have an android device since I sold my Note 5.
I suggest we contact any of the forum members who are advanced in these matters to assist us with the root for Overdyve.
I'm Interested as Well
I'm going to try to dive in and see if I can figure out rooting my Overdryve. Since they don't seem to sell too many of these, I think we'll have to figure out how to do this without a nifty app. If anyone has any thoughts/pointers/useful articles, perhaps they'd share them.

I agree with you 100%. We really need to stick together on this and help each other out noting that these devices are very few. In the event we are unable to root the device is there any other way of enabling Google Play Services without requiring root? If I can get support for the Google services I will be good to go. Currently most of Google apps are not supported. Thankfully Google Maps works as I absolutely needed this to work as the Rand navigation software is not located in my country. I bought this to use away from USA and so far the most disappointing issue is that Rand disabled support for Google apps.
I will read widely and support you where I can.
I bought the Overdryve 7 a few days ago and there is literally NOTHING out there to help Root it, install a custom recovery, or how to install Google Play Services. I have tried rooting it with KingoRoot and King Root but to no avail. I haven't resorted to such generic methods to root anything since Towel root. This is why TWRP is essential to have.
Bump :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Please delete. Wrong thread.
Still nothing new
I have the Overdryve 7, and 8 Pro... hoping that someone out there much smarter than I has been working on this. Eager to make these thing earn their cost back.
root overdryve 7and 8 pro tablet from mcnally

download dr.fone and you can root i did on mine it works if not first time keep doing it will root overdryve 7 or 8
overdryve 8 pro, been rooted for a while now, but Id like to get the OTA updates that ive missed over the last year, and i keep hitting a snag on the OTA verifier...
/system/bin/install-recovery.sh has ben modified... sha1 doesnt match...
there was another file too, but when I rooted, SU made a backup of the other file so i just switched it and it passed SHA1 check.... but SU didnt take a copy of this file for back up...
any ideas? ive tried changing it to a .bak but then fails becuase file is missing....
anyone have a stock 8 pro, unrooted ever, that they can turn on just USB debugging and try to copy the file original file out for me thru ADB debug if possible?
Or anyone know the ile contents for that file on Android 5.1.1 build LMY49I/N8_1_0_170516_275
I wanted up load more detailed specs.... I also have the new OTA update zip, like I said it just goes too error tho because the install-recovery.sh file sha1 doesn't match because I have rooted, and SU remove root and factory reset do not return the original file
Oops file is here
I just wanna be able to install Google play store. Anyone have any luck.

Has anyone figured out how to install Google play services and play store. I got as far as getting an early version of Google store to work without crashing but now it says it can't connect to the Google servers. Oh well something's gotta work.

Anyone able too get into Fastboot on this?
I can see the option and select it from the Engineering Menu, but the decice just sits on the RM logo then reboots normally.
There must be a key combo like too enter the Recovery Menu, but I cant figure it out.
Anyone?
Would someone be able to upload the stock launcher, please? I managed to root and build a custom recovery for my TND740, wanted to try it out.
ji have the OD7C was hoping xda had it all sorted out lol
I hope I'm posting this in the right place, I looked around a bit but I didn't get anything except more confused. So here's my issue, I'm a noob at all this rooting/programming business so before I messed with my nice phone I've been practicing on a LG L15G Sunrise TracFone running android 4.4.2. I gained root access with Kingroot, started to remove some bloatware that seemed safe to uninstall but I was wrong. Something I removed is now causing my settings app to crash. As soon as you try to open it, it just crashes. I don't have a recovery and can't find a rom anywhere for this particular phone. SO, since it's a $10 phone that I only use as a mp3 player anyway I'm not too concerned so I just want to fix it to see if I can and maybe learn something. I have an idea to restore the phone and my main question is can you request admin rights for an app on the phone if i hook it up to my PC with adb shell? If so what are the commands, or scripts, whatever you call it. And my second question is again about using adb console. I want to install an apk file onto the phone, but since my settings don't work, I can't get to the security tab to allow apps from unknown sources. Is there a way to turn this on with adb? Or somehow install the apk manually without permission.
Yeah you should be able to install a program and authorize root access, I don't know about kingroot I haven't heard great things but otherwise what's the point of root. Try installing flashfire and see if you have root access (careful with flashfire it's powerful).. If not I might recommend trying to replace kingroot with supersu like in the following post

Thank you all for your help. I did find the info on another thread and I now have unknown sources enabled. I was planning on replacing kingroot with supersu, there's plenty of tutorials on that floating around. Just wanted to regain access to my settings first before I made things worse. So now I have an idea, tell me if it's stupid. one of the apps i removed screwed the phone up, don't know which one, however, I was able to find apk files of the apps i uninstalled deep in the root browser. If I took these and reinstalled them back in their rightful spots as system apps would everything fall back into place like it never happened? Cuz that would be cool. I've never spent enough hours on this $10 phone I could have bought 10 of em by now if i was working lol. Just glad I was smart enough to take the time to learn this crap on a cheap phone instead of bricking my Moto X on the first go round. thanks for the help guys.

It should. As long as you have a copy of the app. I haven't been using the new root browser, but idk if it has a recycle bin.
