[Q] Noticing lag 3 weeks after root...what should i do? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've had my vibrant about 3 weeks and its been rooted since the first day i've had it.....but now i notice a lag...particularly sliding between home screens. i've only installed about 5 apps plus the neccesary ones for root (Rom Manager, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup). So far i've only uninstalled and deleted The Sims 3 for TMobile. I've read about lag-fixes but i'm not sure if i need it. Would removing more of the bloatware that came with the phone speed it back up or should i apply a lag-fix....and if so which one is the best? Thanks in advance

Go to the market and search one click lag fix (app) thatz what i used it rooted my phone and applied the lag fix. Look for it on here the dev name is ryanza

Thanks....downloading now....but my phone is already rooted....will this app un root it when I install it?

You running Touch Wiz and many Widgets? I turned off the widgets and or I switched to Launcher Pro and I don't really experience any lag. Honestly I think all those lag fixes are over rated and many have suggested that after a week or so the lag comes back even worse.

No it will not un root your phone. Ryanza's lag fix will really speed things up.

ok....thanks for your input guys....i'll try it out and if it starts to lag again then i'll just remove it....thanks again guys

Phone problems

so i have had my phone for 11 days now and it's been a very good phone (coming from a blackberry, iphone 3g, now this) but today I have noticed some real peoblems. Besides going threw 3 sim cards in less then 2 weeks but my phone has been freezing up alot today about 5 time and the only way I could get it back working was to take the battery out Any ideas?
During freezing I was playing angry birds, surfing the web, going threw android market, running speed test. I am getting "force close" alot also when getting on the XDA app(during loading latest topics) Thanks for any input!

Looks like you have to do some trouble shooting. When the FCs started have you installed any application recently that may cause that like a task killer or a launcher app like Launcher pro, ADW EX, Go launcher? If not there are so many bad apps in the market that can cause force closes. I would factory wipe your phone. Of course all your settings and customizations are gone then; so be careful what you have to save before doing that. I would try the phone for some hours without any app from the market. If you still get force closes it is most likely the phone. If everything is ok...start to install all your apps but little by little so that you can pin point the bad app.
I have launcher pro. I will remove it and see what happens

Launcher Pro probably isn't your problem as most of the people I know with atrix's use it.

Razr Maxx accelerometer lag

I've had a Razr Maxx for a few weeks and recently (but not originally) have a problem with the accelerometer lagging when I tilt from vertical to horizontal or vice versa. I mostly run vertical (portrait), but use horizontal for typing (larger keys), web browsing (easier to read), watching video and maybe playing a game or two.
I rooted my Razr the day I got it and had no problem. I've received at least one system update since then and rerooted it after the OTA update (using VooDoo OTA RootKeeper) with no problem. I know that my accelerometer lag did not begin after either the updates or the rooting. I'm not running a custom ROM.
I've added plenty of apps and widgets but nothing I haven't used with my Incredible (rooted but no custom ROM) or my Nook Color (CM7). A few days ago I began to notice a lag of at least 10 seconds and sometimes as much as THIRTY ONE SECONDS when I shift the Razr between vertical and horizontal. I used ROM Manager to fix permissions, I used Titanium Backup Pro to freeze bloatware apps, I systematically eliminated every widget I had running, I turned animations on and off, I changed from Go Launcher Ex to Zeam Launcher and I rebooted between every adjustment I made. I installed Advanced Task Killer, which I normally do not use, and killed every app I could. None of these actions has reduced the considerable accelerometer lag at all.
Everything else about the Razr seems to be working fine. Its fast, it navigates home screens and web pages and apps instantly, it plays even large video files flawlessly. Under About Phone it shows that my System Updates are current running Android 2.3.6.
My next step, I guess, is to start uninstalling apps. I hate to do this just randomly because I don't know how to back up my system (ROM Manager won't let me do a backup because I can't install ClockworkMod Recovery) and its a pain to manually reinstall everything.
When I search this topic I find other Android phones having this problem but I haven't found it mentioned among Razr users. What am I missing? I love the phone and really want to solve this problem.

It's a Moto bad sofware config. I had imprived a little bit the razr speed disabling animations. But it's indeed laggy. Either removing bloathware won't help anyway.
Thanks

Since posting I've gone the last step and reset the phone to original condition. At that point it's worth noting that the LAG WAS GONE! OK, so the guts of the phone aren't the issue but likely something I'm adding along the way. I began reinstalling apps a few at a time. Everything was fine until I reinstalled Button Savior. As soon as that app was active (pro edition, fully updated) my lag was back in a major way. Once I uninstalled Button Savior my accelerometer became responsive once again.
I've got about 90% of the apps I had on my Razr originally back and still no lag (except with Button Savior). I'll run the phone for a couple of days to see if I really have pinpointed the problem and then post my findings.

Anybody have lag when scrolling through home pages

Recently I had the chance to see a unrooted att note scroll through its home pages with like no lag.....
My note is from att and rooted with mashis method when I scroll through my home pages I notice a little lag not much but its there, on a side note that's the only lag I notice.
My question is can rooting cause the lag I'm seeing. If it can I will definitely go back to unrooted via da g's method.
Thanks in advance for all the help.

Simple rooting your Note will not cause home screen lagging.
Actually, since you've rooted it you might consider freezing (ala Titanium backup) some of the AT&T apps and I bet you'll see improvement.
My stock Note does lag slightly moving between TWLauncher screens...in fact I can't even run alternate launchers such as GoLauncher because everyone I've tried eventually started lagging. I believe some AT&T background processes are obviously the culprit.
Exactly. Get rid of some bloatware and you will see the lag disappear, also check out the newest root which fixed my lag.
Which one is the newest root and can I run a root on top of another root

Oh sorry now I know what your PM meant. Check out the thread in the Q and A by the guy looking for the Bell stock ROM, he lists the name of the root he used to get rid of lag and then just google it.
So its ok to run another root on my phone or do I have to go back to stock first.

[Q] phone app "Dialer"! slow launch any solution?

As you can see from the title, the phone app "Dialer" launches very slow every time i leave the app for more than 5 minutes. Actually its not just the dialer app but also i noticed that with some apps like messaging, it takes around 3 seconds to launch. It started to annoy me specially because, first i make calls a lot and second because i know that i am using 1.5GHz dual core processor "one of the reasons that made me buy this phone". i have tried the galaxy phones many times specially the s2 and the note and i never see that specially that their processor is technically slower. Does anybody notice that? and is there a way to solve this problem?i don't care about other apps, i just want the dialer to launches quickly like it does with the Galaxy phones and any 1.5GHz dual core processor.
Now i am using ICS rooted with locked bootloader. Still no difference than Gingerbread. still launches the app very slow. Any suggestions, Ideas?? please!
I agree. In GB there was no such issue, but the lag is very noticeable in ICS.
Very Annonying indeed.
I AGREE
there has to be a way to tweak this... some dev has to find it
Factory reset.
And don't use any ram optimizers or apps killer.

i did factory reset like a thousand times. the problem is not new with ICS , GB too was little slow with the "phone" application except that now ICS, its more noticeable. and BTW i dont use any ram optimizers or apps killer at all, actually never had! and for rooting the only apps i use are SetCPU, Root Explorer and titanium backup!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1745668
i checked the stock ICS dialer that was posted in there but i didnt like it.
i then downloaded the EXdialer from the market with the black ICS theme and its FAST.
This lag in Phone drove me crazy so much that I rooted (locked bl) my phone in attempt to improve the performance.
After freezing dozens of apps for more RAM, strangely now my Phone app launches a lot faster... not sure if it is a memory issue or that in the process of reflashing I got a smoother ROM.... somehow.
I also installed the ICS Dialer as mentioned above which is very fast. I am still using the SE Phone app, but keep the ICS Dialer just in case the lag come back.

Help with Rogers OTA ICS update/phone acting funny afterwards.

Hi guys, new to the EVO side (wife's phone) so I am very unfamiliar with how the EVO 3D runs but I am hoping to get a bit of quick help.
I did the ota update yesterday to a completely stock Rogers EVO 3D and ICS seemed to take just fine and all the features appear to work. The funny part is that whenever you switch between applications, ie; open gmail and than close it to go to the home screen I get the HTC something brilliant screen as if it is rebooting. This happens with anything I try to open or switch between. The screen will flash for a few seconds and return to the home screen.
Anyone else experience this or have any advice? I will read up on unlocking the bootloaders and rooting (I'm use to captivate and galaxy nexus) to be able to get different ROMs on but I was hoping to get a quick answer so the wife doesn't hurt me in my sleep tonight...
Thanks
G
Something is causing the sense launcher to crash. I had that issue on GB when I had a different launcher installed, even if I was not using it. Maybe an app is causing it or maybe the memory management of the OS is overly aggressive and removing the sense launcher from memory (so it has to reload).

Thanks for that. No other launcher installed but I will at least clear data out of the current one or even try a different. Will also double check memory management to be sure it isn't killing anything it shouldn't be.

try wiping your caches
Its an ics glitch. Nothing you can do that I've heard of.

Definitely sounds like a glitch. Tried all the suggestions but nothing worked. Just added Nova launcher to get around the sense issue. Wife hates ICS though and wants the old ROM back on. Can't win for trying.
Thanks for the tips guys.
