[Q] Vibrant Storage - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Everytime I flash a different rom more of phone storage space is taken away.
I am down to 677MB available out of 12.78GB total. Before I flashed the last rom I had almost 3GB available. I notice this everytime I flash a rom.
What do I do to reclaim the space? Is it Nandroid Backups that are taking all the space?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If you're making nandroid backup before every rom update and not removing old nandroid backups then i would say that's what taking up space.
I have one backup that i fall back on to go back to mostly all stock and maybe 2nd one that ill fall back on for the more recent configuration. i dont keep more than 2 back ups at a time.
You can use a file manage and locate clockwork in your internal SD card and in the backup folder remove old back ups just keep what you need

When you flash a new ROM

having backup-ed everything with Titanium, do you need to move the Titanium backup to your computer so it wont be wiped?
Could you move it to your it to your External SD?

Always make a copy for your computer just in case it wipes. You could also put a copy in external but some roms are having an issue seeing external.
I've been keeping copies of the TB folder on my computer. I have a version I took after rooting the stock ROM, and one from every ROM I've put on since. I probably don't need that, but I usually do a full back of all system apps as well and that changes from ROM to ROM, so I hate seeing all the old backups for stuff I no longer can apply to the current ROM.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
its ALWAYS a good idea to backup your sd cards to PC just in case of an accidental wipe....when i flashed the new Onyx 4.2 ROM it wiped my internal sd....pics...ringtones....apps....nandroids......GONE because i didnt read the small print that said the kernal may wipe...so back up everything....better safe than sorry

[Q] When I back-up, where does it go?

So, I'd previously used RyanZa's OCLF to root, but was too cautious to pull the trigger on anything more. Now, I'm ready. I went ahead and rooted by installing a new update.zip. I installed Titanium Back-up and ROM Manager, and made back-ups too.
Simple question before I move on to custom ROMs and what not... When I back things up in TB and when I make a nandroid back-up in RM, where do those files go?
Thanks for any feedback.
The stay on your internal 16g memory. If you were to look at the files using your computer you'll now see a titanium folder for example.
It's a good idea to compy the contents of the 16g internal memory to a backup file on your desktop just in case you decide to format your phone by accident.
Ah, makes sense. Thanks much for the info.

[Q] expert needed for question!!!!!

Hey guys, i have been writing and re writing different Rom to my phone for about a year now. But last night the worst thing that could happen happened. I did a backup of my external sd card and a titanium backup before writing the rc3 Rom final gingerbread clone to my phone. Well after writing it i decided i did not want it. So as any other time i just booted into recovery and looked for my nandriod backup and none of my backups were under restore. I realize now
that my backups including my titanium backups must have been on my actual phone and had been wiped. How can i avoid this problem in the future. I thought overtime i wiped my phone
and restored it, it was because i had my stuff on my sd card. I have a nandriod folder backed up from my external sd card but that seems to be worthless at this point. Any advice would help. Thanks, signed starting over.... Lol
you are correct in that all of your backups are originally stored in your phone memory (/sdcard) not your external sd card (sdcard/external_sd) unless you physically move them yourself or re-set the destination in each program. For example my nandroids are in (sdcard/clockworkmod/backup), TB in(sdcard/TitaniumBackup), and sms/mms in (sdcard/SMSBackupRestore
Usually flashing a new ROM will not wipe my internal or external sdcard. If anything it will wipe the INTERNAL sdcard not your external.
In any case backing up your backups is a good idea. Simply move them from their location to your PC. Voila! now you have all your backups stored on your PC.(aren't i smart) Now heres a little TOP SECRET tip..... ever since i started having mount to PC issues on random ROM/kernel combination's I keep a hidden nandroid backup in my external sdcard I always move my last nandroid there heres my path (sdcard/external_sd/backup/TOPSECRET/hiddenfile/poop/)... this makes it easy to pull your last nandroid just in case your internal does get wiped. Hope this helps
thank you for your reply...

Lost SMS backup when switching ROM's, common?

I have been running Cleanrom 1.7 for a while and decided to make the leap to Nils ICS Rom. When on GB I could always do an SMS Backup and after the new rom pull it back into my texts as if nothing was wiped. I did a Nandroid Backup of my 1.7 and then did a full SMS Backup as well before going to the new leaked RUU and ICS Rom. I can not get SMS to find any files or backups and I need to get these texts back as some have important info linked in them. Is there a reason why it wouldn't be able to recognize or find the any SMS backups.
I saw there is a way to get into the Nandroid backup and pull the correct files from the data area but have no idea how to put it to use once located.
Custom recovery is AmonRa 3.15
Any help is appreciated

The RUU wiped internal sd card so that is what wiped out the backup. You could try the band backup and move the backup to sd card. Then rrestore ICS and then and will find backup on external card
I had always saved to my ext sdcard but for some reason it didn't do it this time. I ended up dropping the old PH98IMG back into bootloader and nandroid restored my previous set up so I could save it again. I did an ext sd save and copied everything to my comp as well. This time around it took when the ICS Rom was dropped back on and everything is up and running. Just wish I planned for it from the beginning as it took a lot of time out of my day to redo it all.
I will def remember this for the future

[Q] Rom Manager - Space taken up!

Hi,
I recently did a backup of my current rom through Rom manager. I had 9GB of free space before I did it. After the backup I'm left with 7GB of the internal space. I copied the backup folder from Clockworkmod folder to my pc. But the space still doesn't add up? Where is the 2gb occupied? How can i get it back? Please help
Ok, I went ahead and deleted the entire ClockworkMod folder. That seems to get back the 2Gb space.
If you are using a newer cwm the backup method is different, it compares old backups to new backups and shared components are only stored once as "blobs".......hence you may now have an incomplete nandroid stored on your pc
