Since I'm a developer of the Cyanogen port for this phone, let me answer:
Until the major bugs are fixed, we recommend you use Froyo. However, you will probably enjoy testing Cyanogen 7 for a day or so, if you can forgive the bugs.

In my current ROM - Indic font rendering is not working properly. I replaced DroidSansFallback.ttf in font folder. It is having right font now, however Conjuncts are not working. Any idea about that..
Also is it taken care in Cyanogen 7
CyanogenMod
I'm using the subpsyke's CyanogenMod and it's really good. A little slow but whatever
I recommend CyanogenMod 7.1 hotfix 1.4 .. is f***ing stable and works fast....I like this very much....ADW Launcher is incredible.I like that the menu was changed from that page format to grid...I got a lot of apps and games and they works fine.
Cyangen mod
i use Cyanogen Mod 7,1, and has overclocked my phone to 768mhz.
Its a new phone, me like it now.
I would definitly choose Cyanogen over original rom.

there is a beta rom for i9000 that works on the vibrant, but cyanogenmod team is having a hard time getting cm6 onto the vibrant...basically means yes stock android is possible, but buggy at the moment. with the release of 2.3 gingerbread,i can see a pretty quick port to our phones as the hardware is almost the same.
Hi Guys,
Terrible newbie question here; I have searched briefly but haven't found an answer.
Is Android 2.3.6 available for the Galaxy S2? I'm still on 2.3.3 and am bored of waiting for OTA updates.
I've seen that there is a 2.3.5 ROM available here on these forums but don't see the point in upgrading to that now then 2.3.6 is out...
Can anyone help me with my question for up-to-dateness?
Thanks.
2.3.4 just released today in some Nordic countries, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1269607. Then 2.3.5, 2.3.6...
So why did you search about 2.3.6? Update to 2.3.4 first!

Is there any indication from Samsung when they'll be pushing out 2.3.4 to the UK devices?
I would love to get a basic installation really without all of the Samsung crap on it. :\

Actually the current Android version is 2.3.7 for NFC capable devices, stop thinking about official 2.3.6, they barely launched official 2.3.4 for northern europe.
I'm in Spain southern Europe and still no 2.3.4. But I have had a few 2.3.3 updates which is fine by me. I love this phone.

Nope, european version doesn't have NFC, only korean and an american version if i'm not mistaking.
Just for future references, Google releases new Android OS versions, it first shows up in Nexus Phones. Then, manufacturers need to get the lastest OS to build their new ROM around it with their own skin/theme. This typically takes couple months and then a new ROM leaked or released. So, typically you will see a new Samsung ROM about 6 months later. You can't download or install Android OS directly. You have to wait for OEM to built it.

Greetings all..
I just bought a SAM Ace.. i had a Htc Magic then a X10 mini and now i turned to SAM.. heard that it was a good machine.. so..
I've been using XDA to root, and install new roms to my previous phones..
But in this SAM, unfortunately i am a bit conserned.. So can any1 help me in this questions:
: I'm running Ginger 2.2.3 updated throug Kies
1 - My mobile is sim locked.. i can't use any other sim.. I already searched that is possible to (root) the phone and then install an apk that unlocks the sim lock.. has any1 tried this? is it safe?
2 - I'm a bit worried to (root) this phone, does any1 report any problem after with network, battery and general stability of the device?
3 - Is the best stable official rom at the moment the one i have now or is there a better one ? Though Kies i can't find the 2.2.4v u guys are talking about.. so .. This isn't really an official rom right?
4- Since i've got my phone from Vodafone, it has some operator aps that i don't really use and they are using needed space, is there a way to remove them somehow.. like.. instaling a official rom from elsewere, but still upgradable through Kies? Or do i really need to (root) the device? After rooted, can i still install a official 2.2.3 rom.. but.. without all the operator crap?
5 - There are a few custom roms as i can see, i used to use de Cyanogen in my X10 mini, but i had some issues with sending and receiving mms.. , at the moment.. is there any stable and fully operational roms ? including the mms solved problems..? cof cof.. and good battey usage time ?
6 - Sorry for any bad english.
Thank you !!
Welcome to the community!
For question 4,I have used 2.2.1 and 2.3.4.felt ok except the wifi died occasionally which was a documented problem.
For question 5,I am currently on cyanogen but its a rc version.I am quite happy with it as performance boosted.but it came at the price of battery life.haven't tried mms though

1. No idea although I don't see why it wouldn't be safe.
2. Rooting is easy. Like everything else, be careful and follow instructions to the T and you'll have no problems.
3. Correct. There is no 2.3.4 update through Kies...I think. Plug your phone in and find out.
4. If you want to remove bloatware, root your device and use Root Unistaller. Alternatively, flash a new ROM.
5. There are two variants of CM7.1 at the moment. One was made by BehradGH the other by Grif_07. Both work wonderfully.
6. It wasn't that bad =]

I am using Icecream Sunday by Jusada. It's an ICS themed CM7.1 ROM but it has been stripped down to the bear minimum. Jusada initially made it as a foundation ROM for developers to then customize as they saw fit but it has become very popular amongst forum members as a day-to-day ROM. It is very stable and more importantly (for me) it is FAST!
Also, because it has been stripped down, I have noticed a lot better battery time.
Granted, the battery life on almost all Android phones is crap, but if you're looking to be more conservative with power and increased speed, use Icecream Sunday.
So to answer your question - I get about half a day's SOLID use from my battery.
As far as MMS goes, I am not sure. You'd have to ask one of the devs.
Hope that's helped

Welcome to XDA!
1) It can be quite tricky to unlock the Ace, and can brick/reset it. First check if it really is locked.
2) There's risk involved in rooting, but it's minimal - if you follow the instructions. There are pros and cons of rooting, but the pros outweigh the cons.
3) Kies sucks IMO, so you're better off upgrading with ODIN. Look in this section: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1167.
4) The best way to remove the bloatware/crapware is by rooting and then uninstalling them, or by flashing a custom ROM.
5) There are a lot of stable ROMs available, take your pick: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194358, there's supposed to be an official Cyanogen for Ace(cooper) in the works, but if you can't wait that long, I recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1263292

Hey guys,

My question I hope someone could please help me out.
Which firmware is the latest for the 10.1 wifi (P75100) out there? I can see Honeycomb 3.2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1187087, but I don't know which one is the latest.
Regarding for the rom, which one do you guys mostly recommend out there?
I read Task650 is excellent for wifi, but I don't know if it does support the P7510
Hope someone here could help me out!

First things first. 7510 is the wifi version. 7500 is the 3g version. Which do you have?
Second. There's only about 4 custom ROMs currently updated, check the dev subforum, pick one, install it, and see if you like it.
Hey!
I did check out the sammobile.com, but they don't have the Honeycomb 3.2, so I guess it's outdated on the list. I have the Wifi version, 7510.
Any you guys recommend personal custom roms?
Did you look good?

As someone said before, P7510 IS the wifi version, so Task650's ROM works only on the 7510.
Many people have said good things about that ROM, so I'd recommend flashing it and seeing if it suits your tastes. It's also one of the most updated ones, so you'll be on the latest stable&good firmware available.
Great! Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated!
Last request. Could anyone please give me the direct link of the latest firmware for the Wifi, P7510? I can't find it on the sammobile website previous posted I gave a link.

You can update your official firmware directly on your tablet by going into Settings. There is a how to on Sammy's website here http://www.samsung.com/us/article/galaxy-tab-10-1-updates
That being said, Task's rom is excellent and I highly recommend it over stock. It has all the bells and whistles such as root, overclock, etc. It's fast and has great looking themes. Great starter ROM to use while we wait for CM9 to be released.
I did follow the link you provided me. There is no update available for the 3.2 yet at my country. I live in Norway, so I need a direct rom where I can flash the lastest firmware on my tab. You know any direct link website where I can get the latest firmware for the wifi 3.2?
Well, if you want an official rom, I guess you have to wait until they release one for your region as I don't know if the roms for other regions will work on yours. Maybe they will. I'm not sure. But there are a lot of wifi 3.2 roms that should work in the development section. Try Task's rom. I'm pretty sure you wont be disappointing. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for.
I use task 650 10 and it is very fast and stable.
Hey! I managed to install task rom and got the 3.2 firmware too. I the only thing which annoys me, and I don't know if it's the hardware issue, or the custom rom or rom the 3.2 rom itself, I find this tab kinda slow for browsing on the Internet, responding by open the shortcut applications for example, if you know what I mean. it's not snappy/smooth speed like the Samsung Galaxy s II. Anyone knows how to solve this problem?
