Is there any way to change an icon in PPC2003 mobile?
Specifically, I use the program Battery Pack 2004 (v5.3) which comes with the Today screen plugin "Program Bar". This lets you setup shortcuts and place them on an MS Office like bar on the today screen. but many of the icons are generic and confusing and I'd like to change them. For example, if I add a link/shortcut to a folder called "Utilities", the link/shortcut shows up as a folder icon. If I place several different similar links next to each other, they all look the same. I'd like to change the icon to something meaningfulld, like a folder with a bit U on it ....
Any ideas?
create or copy any desired icon file into this folder and name it "icon.lnk"

Thanks, I'll give that a wirl....
Created an Icon, copied it to the Windows\Startmenu\Util directory and renamed it icon.lnk.
Notta. ??
There are icon creation programs out there as I remember trialing one for a while. Wasn't freeware and din't end up buying it. Don't remember the name but I downloaded from handango.
If you wanted to change the icon I presume you would also need to creat a shortcut link the exe file you want to execute?
Ed
edcap,
I have an Icon creator, editor. In fact, I have the icon I want to use. But the question I have is how do I get it to show up on PPC2003? Specifically, how do I make it be the icon for a folder I have created?
Thanks in advance...
Help??? :?:
Ive been searching for it, but never found how to change the icons nor manual or with any program. I don´t think it´s possible to change the icons on WM2003.
Thanks, but it HAS to be possible.
We have 2 remote control rovers driving around on Mars right now taking pictures, drilling into rocks and digging holes in the red sand. We MUST be able to change an icon in my PDA??

Yes, it is. But it's not really simple, and I don't know the whole story, so this is more of a hint to get you started, not a complete solution.
Look at the "Games" folder in your start menu for an example. It has a different icon. So, if you look into the actual Games folder, there is a file called icon.lnk. This is NOT the actual icon, but a link (sic!) that points to an icon resource inside the ceshell.dll.
I did not try, but it may suffice to have that link point to an icon file (whatever that format is). Also, make sure you get the number in front of the # sign in the icon.lnk file right.
If all else fails, create a DLL that contains your icons as resources (you'll need a resource editor for that - Visual Studio has one, for example, but there are others), and have the icon.lnk point to an icon resource inside that DLL, similar to how the Games folder icon works.
Cheers
Daniel
Search the net for this sollusion, described by tadzio above. I know there even is programs for changing foldericons. Altough, there is no program for changing program icons yet..
And ive found no sollusion to this, anywhere...
Happy hunting, if you find anything. Please let us know!
On ssj5trunks' (the developer of Androkkid) request, I 'm opening a thread for widget for this great program.
The Androkkid comes with these widgets:
AnalogClock
Battery: Widget without text for QVGA is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4879711&postcount=126
DigitalClock

wmdirk has supplied a widget library to facilitate the development of widgets, version 1.4, Dec. 26, 2009: http://sites.google.com/site/wmdsoft/wmd-androkkid-lib
After talking to wmdirk (and because I no longer use Androkkid), I've decided to change this first post. wmdirk's widgets will not be updated here but on his webpage http://sites.google.com/site/wmdsoft/home. He seems to be the only one currently making widgets for Androkkid, and he is very successful in doing so. But some of the widgets are not free, and I didn't want to mix the free and the commercially available in one list. However, this thread will still be used by wmdirk to answer questions regarding his widgets, and to announce new ones.
Other widgets that have to be installed separately (I'll try to keep this updated and with the newest first):
This is a list of wmdirk's widgets: some of them free http://sites.google.com/site/wmdsoft/home

Installing:
Unzip the files to the Widget directory and Androkkid will automatically detect the widgets. Then holding on the desktop, click add, then widget, then select it, and ok and they should show up on the desktop.
Skinning:
The widgets can be skinned by changing the background image - bg.png in the gfx directory. However, it's important to keep the same size as the original, otherwise the font won't show well.
Perhaps I´m too stupid, but how do i install these widgets?
I had a look at the androkkid discussion, but don´t find a solution.....
Thanks for the help.

No, you are not stupid, I'm the one who was sloppy and forgot instructions.
You should just unzip the files to the Widget directory and Androkkid will automatically detect it. Then holding on the desktop, click add, then widget, then select it, and ok.
The weather widget has a settings menu you can reach by clicking in the top half. Not all the settings have an effect yet. Clicking lower on the widget, should refresh, but I'm not sure that's working yet. Also I forgot to delete a debug message. Will try and upload a new version today.
Wether widget updated in first post (messages used for debug purposes have been removed).
Also updated information re installation and skinning.

Here is a Weaher Widget I have been working on. I have beased it on Titanium Weather. I shoukd have it ready in a couple of days for some testing. It depends on how my time permits. I plan on having the next 4 days forecast in the empty area in the middle.
Very nice! Cant wait to preview.

looking forward to your weather widget goraps
Another preview.
Maybe ready in a few days. Just got to work on the update process.
Good job on the widgets!
Having problems finding information on how the widget interfaces with Androkkid and need some example code. A simple "Hello World" widget would be useful and would provide a springboard for creation of new widgets.
Failing that some source code of any developed widget to date.
Edit: Scratch that, just noticed some widget source code on the main site
Looking for the Weather code for London England and Bedford England which site are they on as I put in the Weather.com code for it and it crashed Androkkid
edit is it UKXX0014 for bedford and UKXX0085 for London ??

I'll try to have a new version of the weather widget with the source code later today, and I'll have some more error testing to try and prevent crashes.
It is important though to be connected to the internet when installing the weather widget or changing the location.
In order to test the weather codes, you can put the following in your browser's adress bar:
http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=UKXX0085
and it should give you the same weather forecast I'm using in the widget
hgWeather updated with source.
The weather is updated from the Yahoo RSS weather feed.
It will show the current and next day's forecast. You can add several widgets to use for several cities.

Or the background can be transparent.
Font color and size can be changed.
Weather icons can be changed as long as the naming convention is the same. The included icons comes from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354111&page=180, post 1798
Additionally icons can be found here: http://pixel.dnsalias.net/weatherpanel/wiki/index.php/Weather_Icons

It would be great if other people could improve on this widget.
I used the free developer tool Sharp Develop to compile the widget.
Just tried with weather code UKXX1730 it has updated and allows me to add to the page but i am only seeing the bottom half of the image you have provided plus if i change the temp to c instead of f it still shows farenheit temperature.
im not sure how others feel but ideally i would like to add a weather widget to my homescreen along with the clock and a row of priority icons or have a small icon sized image which when clicked on brings up full details

Are you using the version posted yesterday? Because with the latest version, when I change from f to c or opposite, it changes temperature. But you need to be connected to the internet when changing from temperature unit.
When you say only the bottom shows, what parts are showing? City? Current weather? Next day's forecast?
Sometimes you have to click several times before it properly updates from the internet.

Yes, that has been my goal too, but I'm having some problems with the forecast rss, so I'm giving it a rest for now. But the code is there so maybe someone else wants to give it a try? I would also like to have better support for different cities.
Otherwise, you could use the transparent version, set the color of the code to the same as the background, and then you would only see the icons.
If i have time i create the top bar widget to add TopBar in Android with widget and not in Androkkid directly.
Or if anyone want create it i think this is a good widget for all.
Bye
P.S.
I look for the problem of Menu for contact.
I test it in my diamond and when i try it work, i retest it.

Yes please do this would be cool!!!
OK. So I have finished the initial release of GORAPSWeather Widget for Androkkid. This is my first Androkkid Widget so please bare with me.
First all the credit to ssj5trunks for such a great app and the source code to the Hero Clock widget which I used as the code base for this widget.
Second thanks to Showaco for his Titanium Weather which I used as the weather base for this widget.
Note: This widget requires Mortscript.
Installation and Setup Instructions
1) Downlad and unpack GORAPSWeather.zip
2) Open GorapsWeather.mscr with a text editor and make the appropriate changes to the two variables: location and units.
- Change location to the accuweather.com location code for your location.
If you need to find your code go to www.accuweather.com/m and search for your city. Then you will see the location code in the URL. It will look something like NAM|CA|ON|MARKHAM.
- Change units to C or F.
3) Save your edited script.
4) Copy the GORAPSWeather folder to the Androkkid widgets folder on your phone.
5) Execute the click on the GorapsWeather.mscr in a file explorer to initialize the values. If you don't do this and add the widget it will crash Androkkid.
6) Add the widget to your Androkkid desktop. Clicking on the widget will update the weather data.
I hope you like it.
DEVELOPMENT STOPPED!
In case anyone still bothered - sorry! But I'm personally not even using TBL anymore because in the meanwhile Cookie's Sense mod does everything I need. Due to Windows mobile platform dying I also see no reason to continue anyway!
This is my first contribution to this board! It's a little tool that shows a customizeable launch pad when you hit the taskbar. If you don't like this launch pad you can also launch something else instead. You can also say to launch nothing at all --> this also disables HTC Notification, Samsung notification if you're on OMNIA, or the annoying taskbar from newer 6.5.x builds.

Attention: Current version is designed for newer 6.5.x builds of Windows Mobile with the start menu on bottom. Taskbar Launcher is blocking all other applications from the taskbar, so it might be a bad idea to use it when your Start menu is still on top.
Release history

Added few more commands because I thought they're fun
0.1 BETA [01/22/2010] (518 downloads)
Initial release
Installation
Run the CAB file on your phone. All files are copied into program files directory. There's also a shortcut installed in \Windows\Startup to automatically launch it after reboot. After installation the Taskbar Launcher is not yet running. But since BETA 0.4 there's now also a shortcut in Startmenu/Programs to launch the configuration tool. When finished then it will automatically run Taskbar Launcher.
Usage
Hit the taskbar and then the icon of the program you want to launch. Hit the taskbar again or tap anywhere out of the launcher window to close it. You can also tap and hold anywhere in the window and a little popup menu appears. Here you can stop Taskbar launcher.
Since BETA 0.4 the taskbar is divided into three parts. By default settings hitting in the middle of taskbar shows the Taskbar launcher like previously known. Hitting on the left runs HTC Notification. Hitting on the right runs Taskbar launcher's internal Task Manager.
If enabled, then with a gesture the screen can be rotated. Slide from left to right to rotate counter-wise, slide from right to left to rotate in the other direction. Of course this works also when the launcher popup is still hidden.
Since beta 0.5 the gestures to switch application are used by default. Slide from right to left to switch to next application, slide from left to right to switch to previous application.
In beta 0.5 I have also fully replaced the standard taskbar. In the middle you see the time. Left is indication about signal strength, right is indication about battery level. If a GRPS connection is open then the icon in the very left changes to a RED circle. If a WIFI connection is open then the icon changes to YELLOW. The battery icon in the very right changes, depending whether you have connected your phone to power supply or not.
Customization
In [General] section you can active/deactive Taskbar launcher. When deactivated then the program is still running in the background, but taskbar remains as usual. There's also a value to edit the timeout after which the taskbar launcher window automatically closes if user doesn't do anything. Default = 5 = 5 seconds.
Next comes section for taskbar replacement. By default this is enabled, the ini file key is Style = 1. To disable it and use the default Windows taskbar simply set Style = 0. There's few more keys which point to images which indicate current battery/connection state.
Then there are three sections for each part of the taskbar: Area1, Area2, Area3. For each area you can setup the following:
Launch mode. There are 4 modes:
0 --> nothing happens when you hit the task bar
1 --> enable the customizeable launch pad
2 --> when hitting the taskbar then launch something else
3 --> show the taskbar's launcher internal task manager
LaunchExe and LaunchParam is executed if LaunchMode is 2.
Since beta 0.6 searches the icon for the exe automatically. usually the icon seen in Start menu should be shown. If you want to have another icon (or have some custom things like HTC Notification) then you still can specify a PNG file.
In [CustomLauncher] section you can change the image used for background picture. The file is supposed to be the relative path to the program file directory. Don't add absolute paths. Currently you can't add path to a file in \Windows directory.
In [CustomTaskman] you can set a background image. There's also a key "NoIcon=..." which points to an image that is shown if Task manager was unable to retrieve the icon for an application. Usually this shouldn't happen. If you see this icon, please report!!!
In [CustomCmds] you add the list of tools you need. Always increment the ID by 1. In the section for each tool you add a PNG file used as icon (relative paths again), executable file (absolute path) and an optional parameter. You can also leave out the PNG file then the default (also shown in Windows Start menu) will be used.
Some of the INI file settings are immediately applied by Taskbar launcher, for example when changing Active setting or any of the run modes. However when changing shortcuts in the launcher window or when modifying any of the PNG files then you have to restart Taskbar Launcher.
Internal commands
Some people might already have noticed, instead of exe files you can also add some commands which are internally processed by TBL. The following commands are available:
$ROTATELEFT --> rotate screen left for 90 degrees
$ROTATERIGHT --> rotate screen right for 90 degrees
$ROTATELEFTBACK --> rotate screen left into landscape, by next call return to previous portrait mode
$ROTATERIGHTBACK --> rotate screen right into landscape, by next call return to previous portrait mode
$HTCNOTIFICATION --> launch HTC notification window
$HOME --> switch to home screen (i.e. Titanium or Manila)
$MANILA --> switch to Manila and select "Home" page
$STARTMENU --> show Window's start menu
$SWITCHTONEXTAPP --> switch to next app
$SWITCHTOPREVAPP --> switch to previous app
Since beta 0.6 it's also possible to use any of these commands as command line parameters. i.e.:
tbl.exe $HTCNOTIFICATION
This can be launched any time, no matter if tbl.exe is already running.
Future plans
Add/remove/edit the programs in the launch pad directly from the application.
Add more functionality into configuration GUI
Add possibility to close apps from Task manager
nice app.

Hi!
This is a perfect opportunity to reincarnate a useful feature that Microsoft have abandoned: The recently launched apps found on top of start-menu in WM6.1 but ditched in WM6.5
I find "recently launched apps" more useful than taskman.
I think WM6.5.3 status-bar by default pops large notification icons when you tap it. Your great program can be positioned under it rather than replacing it.
cheers!

thanks a lot for your support! Highly appreciated!!!
HTC Notification is running as a service, so you can't just call it to launch the window. One has to find a way to trigger the service to show the window. Maybe it's enough to just send a command to the HTC notification window? I try to check it...

I can add support for this in the next release. Maybe it's sufficient to say if you want to overwrite the default notification icons or not. And with another setting you could customize the position of the Taskbar Launcher window. The problem might only be that this is resolution dependent so you need a setting for each resolution....
I would love to see a taskmanager in that space, where you can easily switch between apps and close them
Very nice app! Thanx a lot.

The next version will support all screen sizes. The icons will be automatically scaled down when running on smaller resolutions and through an ini file setting you can change size by yourself if you need bigger or smaller icons. I'm currently testing on Samsung Omnia which got a 240x400 screen.

Create link to the HTC Home Screen
I installed the "Taskbar Launcher" and it is great. I am customizing the launch pad and I created a link to access memory by creating a link file (20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4). However, I am still unable to create a link to the HTC Home Tab 0. I tried this link: 23#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,13,0, but it doesn't work. Could you help me with the link file that I should use. does it work when directly running the lnk file? if yes, be sure you describe the full path to the link in the tbl.ini file.
In the next version you can also specify parameters for each comands. I just tried and added "Memory" by directly calling the ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4 (without .lnk file) and it's working.

Thank you for your prompt response. I tried the "Memory" command and it works. I think that my command for the " HTC Sense Home Tab 0" is incorrect. Do you know the command I should be using. Thanks.
Hello everyone,
I can see many custom icon sets out here, but after some downloads, I realised I would like to create my own icon set, to satisfy my creative needs
The question is: Is there somewhere any kind of application (on PC or PPC) that enables you to replace stock icons on their respected locatons
I'll make myself more clear... Let's say I would like to change my Start menu icons (folders, apps,...) I do know that you can do this with some apps already available on the WM 6.5 platform, but only individually. What I'm searching for, is an app that manages to replace the icons with my own, importing (replacing) them on their locations (for example it will find the icon "Comm Manager" under Start Menu>Settings>Connections>Comm Manager.lnk) In this approach you could make one personalized icon set and use it repeatedly even after a new ROM arrives all in one sweep.
I understand that all aplications are packed in .cab files. So perhaps there is one desktop app, that manages to link my .png/.ico files to the appropriate files, converts that to a .cab and after copying to the storage, that cab after execution would replace/overwrite all the icons.
Hope it's understandable. Sorry, english is not my native language.
If this was asked/commented before, I apologise for bringing that up again...
See you all
there is nothing to do exactly what you want.
however, if you use jwmd and change them 1 by 1, you can save as a "theme" and then import it after you flash a new rom and get the same icons back.

Great app, this will do, thanks! Downloading now, will try it out
ok i will try to explain as precise as possible
I made Android Kotlin app for learning chemical compounds. My app has a full UI where user can add his chem compounds( and they are stored in a file "compounds.txt" in the app's folder) and also app is kinda testing user by asking some questions. When you open that file "compounds.txt", it looks something like this:
Ethanol=C2H5OH
Methanol=CH3OH
Hydrogen Peroxide=H2O2
Baking Soda=NaHCO3
etc...
So... I made all this, and it works and is ok.
What I would like now?
I would like to make a home screen widget which will be like a "random test" (or "random reminder") for a user when he is not even using my app.
Example: I add my widget on my home screen next to a clock...My widget is sitting there on home screen... and I am like... I take my phone.. I make a phone call... finish the call.. and then i see on my widget written "H2SO4"..
If I know what is a H2SO4.. then cool.. I dont do anything... i just continue my life...
But... if i cant remember what is H2SO4 i would just like to click the button on my widget (or not even a button. I can click directly TextView field) and then instead of "H2SO4" will be written "Sulfuric acid"
But... I would not like when I click button on my widget, that appears main UI of my app. Simple click on a widget should just toggle text between "H2SO4" and "Sulfuric acid"
Now... the question is... How to do this?
If i have 2 KT files MainActivity.kt and Widget.kt, and if i am able somehow with Widget.kt to load file "compounds.txt" then excellent. That would be the easiest way i think. Just load file... Split lines... and every 30 min..just change the text on widget...
But... If widget.kt can't load "compounds.txt" then what would be the next best solution for me?
I am very sorry for my long text. English is not my native language, so it is difficult for me to express myself
