So, the question is kinda stated in the title...
I am looking for a basic launcher tutorial, if there's so, or a launcher skeleton application.
Basically what I want to do is a customized launcher, preferably totally remade of scratch (nope, simply modifying the original Launcher is a no-go, I want to add a few plus features), or based on a skeleton.
If anyone can help me, please do so!
I swear i saw something in the Android dev page that made a little simple launcher... i cant find it now of course.
perhaps looking at the ADW source would get you going. it is open source

found it

Hello all,
newbie user here, just became a GS3 user, and I'm wondering if I should root.
I enjoy changing themes on devices as I get tired of using a particular theme for too long, and I wanted to know if rooting a device has any advantages over, say, a launcher like GO Launcher EX, when it comes to customizing the look.
I don't plan on making any themes myself, as I'm pretty bad at design, but I do intend to try my hand at app development at some point as I have a background in programming.
So i have an idea, and i need to know if its possible and if so how to make it happen. I want to edit some of the widgets in Jellybean to look more like they should be in jellybean, for example i want to change the black new and weather bar to look more like the google search bar at the top of jellybean, and so on with other widgets. So my question here is: is there a way to open up the apks to edit these things? and if so would someone be so kind as to point me in that direction please. thanks in advance for whoever feels like helping me out, if im able to do these things and if people seem interested in using them i will be sure to post them on the forums.
Edit - So ive found the apktool and i think i know how to decompile something with it, though i havent tested it yet but what i need to know now is which apk are the widgets in jellybean? It seems that weather and news is genie.apk but i dont see it on my jb rom, and also i would like to know which apk is the power control widget in, if anyone knows please lemme know, thanks.
is there any way i can disable those annoying allview themes? or at least get some new ones
I already searched google and this forum but with no result.
The phone is working fine except that the themes are lagging the menu.
The phone is rooted but i can't find any cusotm roms or methods to get rid of those themes.
Ideas? Anyone?
up?
up !
this is the final UP.. i don't think there are any devs for this model
Hi there!
I saw that development has just started here on XDA: LINK
I just got my P6 this week also, and I'm relatively new to Android anyway.
I installed the Nova launcher and it gave me an option to be the default launcher, and home screen. I found that this disables the built in "Theme" app functionality, because it lists no themes available (original Themes are: Berry, Crystal Love, New Vintage).
I suppose, it would be easier to replace the Phone.apk and Contacts.apk with AOSP ones, rather to modify themes. Or at least I prefer to delay theming until rooting can be reversed for warranty issues.
Bye!
I'd like to ask GT-P7500 developers if there are any chance to have MagazinUX interface like in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782580 ?

Not from me. Porting stock samsung apps to aosp roms is not easy. Samsung customizes android with mountains and mountains and even more mountains of additions. For better or for worse is up for debate but I'd argue for worse :cyclops: The name "Lagwiz" doesn't come from nowhere :cyclops:
The samsung apps then reference these additions. Someone would need to find those additions, extract them, and stuff them in the samsung app apk. Basically, the samsung apps apk are not standalone installers. Someone would need to put the effort to add the missing extras to these apks. Now I haven't seen the magazine ux, but if you want a more 4.0 ics launcher without the ugly dock at the bottom try nova launcher or adw.
Samsung has discontinued this tablet after only 1 update from honeycomb to ics. Talk about poor 1st party support. Bulls**t that "there's too little ram" or "the hardware's not capable". KitKat runs smoothly and can actually use live wallpapers. I've never been able to use live wallpaper without severe lag even back in honeycomb.
And lastly, this is a question thread not a development thread.
I was a winmo chef, and at that time, the homescreen of my rom was customized out of the box to deliver a unique experience.
Is it possible to do that with a launcher on android? I mean custom settings and personalization to be applied right on the first boot?
I'm asking this because I noticed that all the launchers on custom ROMs are on default settings, which makes it difficult to differentiate ROMs. Everyone is just concerned about the amount of tweaks available, but the rom itself does not offer a unique experience out of the box.
I have had no experience with android rom development, but I'm looking into it, and any help regarding this matter is much appreciated!
Edit: I think this should probably be in the Chef Central. I'm sorry about this. Can a mod move this to the appropriate section please?
Can a mod please move this to android chef central?
If you built the ROM from source then maybe by editing the source code of the aosp launcher but other then that no. Android works very differently then winmo did.
