I rooted my AT&T X10a and tried to configure the settings.db file in order to allow me to install non-market apps. I followed the instructions on how to do so (from the captivate forum) using the sqlite editor and restarted my phone. When I booted my phone up the Sony Ericsson Logo appears, the AT&T animation appears and then screen goes black with a small with white line going across the top of the phone. I can't do anything with it, no buttons work or anything. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Anyone have any suggestions on how to de-brick it?

Try connecting it in flash mode (Hold Back and connect the USB cable) and running step 1 again, it should re-flash your phone back to normal.
Hi, I just had the exact same problem as OP for the exact same reason.(Also, once the x10 powers up past the at&t screen and freezes, you can't power down.)
Here's how I fixed it:
I tried SEUS and PC Companion but no joy. So..
I used the flash tool here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6514704&postcount=3 with this rom from NaplesBill: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8406781&postcount=86 (my/our original fw)
Since I couldn't power down I couldn't boot into flash mode the usual way. So I took the battery out, attached the USB, held back, and then put in the battery. got the green light like it says in 'How To.txt', pressed enter at the prompt, and continued to hold 'back' while the cmd window scrolled for a few minutes. (not sure if I had to hold it the whole time, but didn't risk it!) it paused a few times but at the end it will say 'hit any key to continue'. Do so and the green light will stay on. Disconnect from pc, power down (it works now!) and power back up to a stock at&t phone.
It took me more than one try, so be patient with it and follow How To.txt carefully. There is a .jar file to get your DeviceID in step 4) of this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7063009&postcount=1 (was easier for me)
Good luck!

I'm trying to load the Unofficial 2.2 ROM onto my phone and I'm using the Odin method. I got into Download mode, got the pit and the ROM and put it all in place, the process starts but it just keeps getting stuck at "Do not turn off the Target." Now if I restart it, it won't even go into my phone.
Any suggestions why it keeps stopping at that point?

My advice is to repost this question in the Q and A section and then edit your OP, to indicate you've done as much... Add a link in THIS OP to your Q and A thread. You should get some help after that i'm sure.
does you phone just sit at a black screen? mine did the same thing black screen to where i doesnt look like its on but if you turn the lights off in the room your in you will see the screen is actually lit! no idea on how to fix this myself... on mine if you press and hold the vol up, vol down, and power buttons for a while, (until your fingers hurt) you will eventually see a black screen with red writing with some stuff i was unable to understand! but thats all i could get out of the phone... called t-mobile and they sent a replacement... but i would like to know what i did wrong because i will be flashing froyo alot and i dont want to run into this problem again... btw can get odin to recognize the phone at all!
If your phone is not Hardkey locked.
1) Remove battery from phone and put it back in again
2) Plug your USB into your computer (and make sure it is not in your phone yet)
3) Push and hold down your two volume keys (DO NOT HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON)
4) Plug in the USB cable into your phone
This takes me into Download every time. I did what you did. I had problem with Odin my phone and it just got stuck. I unplugged the phone and rebooted it. Or I should say I tried. It was dead to the world. Black screen. Power button did not start etc. Ran into a note from Kazer and he suggested the above procedure and it worked every time for me. Holding down the power button did not work for me.
Try it out and let me know if it worked.
I bought a used phone, knowing that it had a problem. This problem would cause it to stay stuck on the "three android skating" boot screen and after around 2 minutes, the phone would just turn itself off so I searched all over the internet for a solution and I came across this.
http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/16/how-to-root-the-htc-droid-eris
I followed the above guide with the utmost of care and it did not work. The problem was still persisting.
The only thing I could make it do from there is press volume up and end button. It brought me to system recovery (2e) and it gives me these four options.
Reboot system now
apply sdcard: update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Thus, I assumed that I had to go to apply the fix through the sdcard. However, it said it couldn't open /cache/recovery/command then it showed the information on why and it said (no such file or directory).
I was then told that if the above fix did not work, I could "use the fix that Verizon uses". (refer to the link below)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6702102&postcount=1%3Cbr%20/%3E%3Cbr%20/%3EA
I downloaded this "fix" to the desktop and ran it, whilst carefully following these instructions: http://androidforums.com/htc-droid-eris/25944-how-manually-update-eris-using-ruu.html
Every step worked until I reached step 8/9, at this point it, it was 10% from completion when an error popped up onto the screen and it said "it cannot be completed", and it told me to reinstall the software.
However, I couldn't reinstall it because none of the buttons, the volume rocker nor the trackball was working so I was unable to go back to try and reinstall as it was stuck on a black screen. The only thing that I could see was the HTC logo in the middle and a status bar below it which was stuck at the same level as the program that was displayed on the computer screen. It seemed completely frozen so I had no choice but to disconnect it from the computer but this led to another problem which is what this post is about.
My phone is completely dead, it will not turn on despite holding the power button for long periods of time and when I try to charge it, the charge led light does not appear. I think that the phone is bricked and I don't know how it got to this because I followed the instructions word for word and the other users of the Droid eris on the above forums had successfully fixed their phone.
Can anyone help me fix my Droid Eris, or are able give me an idea on what is actually wrong with the phone? Thanks in advanced!
Do you know if the phone is/was rooted before? Are you able to get it to boot into recovery?
I am pretty new to this rooted community and i unfortunately felt a too confident with everyone saying it is really easy. I did a one click root on my lg g3 vs985 (35B version) and was successful. The next step was to install twrp and i attempted so with flashify and the latest twrp IMG. The recovery boot never worked and always did a normal boot. I resorted to this one tutorial which said to use an app called autorec. This where it went wrong. The reboot made my screen blank and none of the buttons did anything. I plugged it in and my laptop still recognized the phone. I pulled the battery and plugged in and the screen turned on (thankfully) and shows a missing battery screen. With the battery in i tried turning it on with the power and volume down button on and it vibrated. Now randomly vibrates. Please help i don't know what to do!
This forum is extremely unhelpful, but i managed to get it back to stock. I was missing some drivers and not being careful, i almost ended up with a brick.
What did you do to fix the issue? My phone is doing nearly the same thing though it was after installing JasmineROM that it occurred. The screen is blank unless I pull the battery and plug it in to see the missing battery icon.

1. Pull the battery and put it back in
2. Press and hold the volume up button and plug it in to a PC
3. Keep holding down the volume up until you see a screen which says download mode
4. Install a program called LG Flash Tool 2014 (Extract and put it into a directory you want)
5. Download the KDZ of the stock software you want (forum around here but I don't remember where)
6. Put the KDZ file into the LG Flash Tool folder
7. Enter CDMA and the KDZ file
8. Click normal flash which will bring you to a screen.
9. There will be menu with alot of blank things, don't worry just click start
10. It will being you to a LG mobile support screen.
11. Wait till the meter completes
12. If it there's an error at the end saying connection failed do not worry the bar on your phone should begin moving
13. Your phone will then boot into stock and you can do what you want from there.
Hello and thank you for anyone bothering to read this.
I got a CAT S50 and was experiencing a bit of instability lately.
I've run LTE_S0201121.0_S50_0.023.00 without a hitch for a while, then it decided to crash several applications, from google play to any other app open.
That's when I decided to do a factory reset and see if it would help. Performed the rest without a hitch, but the errors kept coming back. At one point, the screen went black. I knew the phone was on because the backlit was working. I hard-reseted it (hold the power button for 30 seconds or more) and rebooted. The phone froze on the CAT splash logo screen and that's when I hard-reset it again. But when I tried to turn it on, the phone simply refused to work. No vibrate, sounds or anything. It's dead.
When I plug it on the computer's USB, the PC makes a sound as if it detected the device, but when I go to the device manager, I get this QHSUSB_BULK with the yellow exclamation mark
I want to know if it is possible to unbrick this phone and if so, if there is a tutorial or if someone can direct me to the correct procedure. I looked everywhere for the ftf file for this phone to attempt this with flashtool, but I simply can't find it.
ANY help of any form is greatly appreciated.
Sadly I had the same thing happen to me, just a black screen. It decided to delete recovery mode or I just cant get to it.
Power Off the Phone,
While pressing Press Vol Down + Cam Button insert a Powersource -- hold down Vol Down + Cam
Recoverymenu should start
Then flash the original rom via ADB Sideload or SD Card.
btw. i have flashed the LTE_S0201121.0_S50_0.023.00 but i want test older ROMs!
can anyone link or upload an older ROM ?
Guy i have the same issue, can you please help me
I got the same problem I search lots place but still nothing then normal update rom anyone can help?
Hi there,
So in my faults of rushing things today I think I have bricked my phone. I had Lineage and wanted to move back to the latest stock image. Since installing Lineage, I haven't been able to get into the "flash mode" that FlashTool requires to flash the FTF. So I thought I'd hotboot TRWP, did a Wipe of Everything and the plan was to then try flash at least another image from my SD card and try flash the FTF again. In my haste the phone rebooted instead with no system or anything
I can't do the following to aid in recovery:
- with phone off, if I hold down "volume down" and plug in usb cable, the green light comes in for like half a second and then that's it - just get's stuck on the Sony white background screen. No flashmode
- with phone off, if I hold down "volume up" and plug in usb cable, the blue light comes in for like 2 seconds max and then a red light flash and then a green light flash - that's it - then just get's stuck on the Sony white background screen.
I have tried Xperia Companion and repeatedly check adb devices also whilst trying the above and the phone is never recognised once
Any suggestions as to what else I can try? Otherwise this is perhaps now a paperweight
Ok. No idea how this worked but in desperation I just tapped power and volume up I believe at the same time and TWRP loaded even though it wasn't installed!? WTF!? There was an img file on my sd card of TWRP so unless it somehow got to load that, I have no idea how it came back up but I am one chuffed panda I have use of the phone again!
Lesson number two for me and anyone else... don't try get into fastboot mode using a charging port on a laptop. That is why I couldn't get in earlier. Sorry to have wasted any time reading all this crap guys. Sorry! Admin feel free to delete this whole nonsensical thread.
Been there, done that. Multiple times ???
