[Q] Is there any way to increase the speaker volume? - Fascinate Android Development

I'm coming from a Droid, which had a really loud speaker, and while I find the Fascinate's is better quality, it is so much quieter. Full volume is quieter than half volume on the Droid. What all can be done to increase the speaker volume?

I don't know if this is possible, but I'm interested in increasing sound volume as well. I'm worried that it would involve a large degradation in quality, though. I hope I'm wrong!

If you really want to experiment, I would direct you to this thread:
*Bah on second thought due to my new status, I'm unable to post links -.-.
Go to Fascinate General and look for this thread "Android_Secret_Code String Revealed!"
Be sure to read the warnings and instructions thoroughly. Though as a personal edit on the guys instructions:
"Go into the Dialer and enter *#83786633 then press the Home key
Go back into the phone dialer and enter *#22745927 "
I would personally suggest using Back key instead of Home Key.
From there check out the HwCodec menu and customize your settings.
Do this all at your own risk and good luck.

Hmm. He doesn't mention anything about it in the thread and I'm not going to risk breaking any features/bricking this. I've taken enough risk freezing the bloatware and*crosses fingers* everything still works so I hope to keep it that way Gues I'll just have to wait for ROMs?

[Q] volume Button

hi guys,
i love the samsung galaxy s2 phone, but i have a question.
Whilst using the phone, i end up accidently pressing the volume button and this can sometimes mean i put the "Notification" or "Ringer" volume really down.
I only want to be able to control such options by actually going into the Settings menu, so is there a way to disable this button or somehow change it's functionality?
BUMP!
Surely someone must have the answer?

I guess so nyssa, but many also still have their mobiles, watching this forum and are still replying to many questions on this forum.
Hey there. Have you even tried searching in the market? The very first app for "volume" query can do just that
Sent from outer space by aliens on tapatalk using SGS2
thanks aj rockwell. That app i believe only helps you adjust settings with volume. I actually want to Remap buttons, so that the volume button cannot adjust sounds other than "IN-CALL volume"
this is so annoying, I was going to open a thread with the some issue. Is any chanse, mod which can switch a default option when we press volume from ringer volume to media volume. many times by incident I turn ringer volume down and I dont hear a ringer.
@ x7 - Halleluyah! At last i find someone who has exactly the issue as myself.
Guys, all i want is some app that can disable the volume button from controlling the MEDIA's/NOTIFICATION's volume. The only way i want to control these is by actually going to SETTINGS>SOUND ...surely there must be an app that can REMAP the Volume key functions?
I agree, why Samsung did this think That you can change volume ringer by pressing a volumes button? This is so silly
Sent from Samsung Galaxy S 2 (80GB)
the only thing we can do x7 is hope that someone on here will know a fix for this volume issue.
I took a look in android market but I havent found anythink
I checked too, but could not find anything. The only one i have seen whilst searching on google, is Button Remapper. But there is no information to say that this app is safe for the SGS2.
Anyone? Help!
x7nofate mate, pls ignore the replies. I feel like such a twat now . It looks like AJ.Rockwell was right...i never properly tried the recommended app and was too quick to ignore it's features.
Download "Volume Control +" from android market and install it.
Once installed, set the volume for all the media/ring/notifications. Then simply goto the options where it allows you to lock each individual type of tone. So for example if you don't want to decrease your ringtone volume by accident, then select that.
Save your settings and you should have a little lock icon in your status bar.
Now when you put your volume for your ringtone down, it looks like its gone down again, right???? WRONG! Since Volume Control+ has locked it down, VC+ automatically forces it back to the "locked" settings. Genius!
Let me know how you get on mate!
PS: If you need any help or just wanna chat android, then PM me ur email and i'll add you to msn/yahoo/skype or whatever you use.
I installed a "Volume Control +" ages ago and I locked in settings but I can put my volume ringtone down anyway so I thought that it doesn't work but I was wrong. It works, thank you very much
Bump! I searched XDA on Google for this exact thread, my problem too. My question is, with that apps reccommendation (thanks for that), does it still bring up the volume OSD? That's my major annoyance, and something that happens to people whenever I pass my phone over to them.

[Q] CM7 volume increments to big

SOLUTION FOUND - TESTING -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411317
I'll provide a better tutorial for those interested when im done testing it ;-) seems i can build a custom Framework.jar with edited volume increments.
I'm running cm7 from cm9, I listen to alot of music during the day and night but I find the volumes at the high end of the range perfect but the volumes down the low end to stark.
The gaps between 0 and 1 is no sound and then considerably loud in a quiet environment, is this a kernel related volume incriment or set by the code in cm7 somewhere?
I can't find an app to add what I'd call analouge volume control ( finer increments in DB from 0 to MAX)
Any ideas guys?

not to threadjack but how do you even use the high volume? at a volume level of 1 with my TripleFi 10 Pros is as loud as I wanna get.
I plug my SGS2 into the car and I can't go anywhere above 1/4. It's as loud as my Nexus S on FULL, and same with my iPod touch. the sound output is ridiculously loud.

This is a well known (and annoying because I use a rom that's a CM derivative) issue. I've learned to live with it & don't really want to run a standalone app just to give me fine control of volume levels, however, I found this on my travels recently. I haven't tried it, but this might be a good starting point for apps to try.

Nice find I tried about 8 apps last night, also considered a voodoo sound esque fix but we know the sgs2 has not got the correct hardware.
unless there is a voodoo sound kernel for cm7 out there but all kernels I try with cm7 give me a corrupt boot to the boot logo and then crashes and I have to hard reset.
CM7 is horrid for 3rd party Kernel support.
MistahBungle said:
Since I started using the app in my sig, I only need volume on around 25-30% thru in-ears. Before that I'd have it on 80% or so. SGS2 (maybe not all, could be manufacturing variations .
Thats what i see manufacture variations .
Stock phone stock headphones no sound change apps volume level at 50% is far to high on my phone . Its an original day one released phone .

Supercurio has released Voodoo Louder for SGS2 which also boosts headphone/headset volume (by 6dB), but it doesn't give you that fine volume control.
And as JJE said in his post, with the experiences reported by SGS2 owners on here, this volume issue would appear to be a manufacture issue/dependent on which 'batch' your phone came from.

I'd like to call that unreliable information, as I never had this issue with Cognation ROM, its only become a issue with the Current CM7.1.
I'd take a look into this but I have no experience into editing the android system short of using command sin Terminal Emulator and ADB.
There must be a scale somewhere that relates to the number of volume increments and the DB output, after all there is a law regarding maximum volumes of devices in the EU and OEM's adjust there in their hardware dependant on Region, so the DB values can be adjusted some how, I just need to know where i can find it.
EDIT : This works on some handsets not my SGS2 !
Dial in *#*#197328640#*#*
Next, tap your finger onto the following, in the following order:
[5] Audio
[1] Handset
[1] Volume
[1] SRS Speech RX Volume
next notice the following defaults that pop up.
[0]0_lvl:63
[1]1_lvl:68
[2]2_lvl:73
[3]3_lvl:78
[4]4_lvl:83
[5]5_lvl:88
This basically means, that your volume up and down keys have 5 clicks, starting from the lowest setting, and click your volume up 5 times, takes you through the sequence of volumes listed above. You can change each click to be a new volume setting. For me 1-4 are fine, I just wanted max volume, which is click number 5, to be something higher. The phone does not let you to put in half increments, meaning 88.5 is not possible. So you have to use increments of 1. Please please do this carefully, dont suddenly jump to 95, you could blow out your speaker possibly. So I tried just 1 increment above 88, went to 89, and perfect, much louder now! okay so this is how you do it:
Once you get the list above, do the following:
Click your finger on [5]5_lvl:88
Next, a screen pops up asking for input. On the bottom of your phone, tap the menu button, this is the button next to the little home button.
Next tap "key input"
Next tap 1 increment at a time, lets start off with 89 so where it says enter value, tap this, your keyboard pops up, type in 89
Next Tap your menu button again
Next Tap "end"
you are now finished, make a phone call and see how 89 works for you, when your volume is set to max
Remember this volume adjustment seems to reset after you reboot the phone. Some people online are saying you can also make the volume higher by playing with the hearing aid settings, I personally haven't tried this yet.

You can call the volume loudness issue anything you want. But given the experiences of people who have posted here over the past however many months, that is what these experiences suggest.
This is what JJE & I were talking about when we mentioned the manufacture thing.
Not the fine volume issue.
Indeed, that seems to be prevalent on CM based roms. I don't recall having any problems increasing volume in small increments for the < 1 week I ran stock firmware on my phone after I bought it.
As I've said, it's not a big enough deal for me to use a standalone app, so it's definitely not a big enough deal for me to muck around with dialer codes. I saw these codes months ago before I even bought my phone, and never bothered with them. The fine volume control doesn't really bother me, I just thought I'd reply to you OP given you were after an app that enables same, and I'd found the app I gave you a link to recently.

That app did nothing, I used it and it gave me the same options as DSP gives you from CM.
The not high enough volume issue can easily be solved in CM7 but comment about that has hijacked my thread, im looking into how we can edit the fine volume adjustment or edit the increments to go from MAX to MIN volume.
Service codes don't appear to work on my handset ( CM related ? ) but I believe the service mode is built into the framework.

[Q] MOD: Can hardware buttons be swapped?

I haven's seen this mod on sgs2, but it would be great to swap som buttons around, especially now on the sgs3...
Unfortunately Samsung have chosen a pretty bad setup now that we're running ics on our phones. The menu button is included in most updated apps these days, so to have a dedicated hardware button for this is very counter productive. And having to hold home, wait seconds to multitask is just plain stupid.
Alas, that's the way it is.
BUT could it not be possible to mod a Rom so that the menu button brings up multitask (currently: "hold home") and holding home brings up menu?
Basically it's just a swapping of the button functions. I guess it can cause some issues with the doubble tap to "siri" voice actions, but I'd happily loose that for better multitask.
Can anybody share some advice on this? Or even create the mod?
-E
Theoretically, yes it's possible.
On my Desire only the power button could wake the phone, but I flashed a mod which enabled wake using the center button.
So for the S3, if there's a dev who wants to swap the keys, he can make one. You can try putting in a request in the Developers section a week or so from when the phone releases.

I remember when that mod came, it made using the desire a lot more efficient. It was a script edit, similar to the one for headphone button support if I remember correctly. I do think this button swapping on the sg3 will be a bit more challenging than that though, but we'll see.
I'll ask around a bit once I get the phone.
Hopefully more people than me will think this is something worth "fixing"

End Call / In-Call Phone Screen

Sorry if this is a really noob question - I searched and couldn't find anything.
Is it seriously possible that if you leave the in-call screen during a call the only way to get back/end a call is from the notification bar?!
(Obviously without making the power button end calls etc.. - purely from the phone app).
Is there something that I'm missing/not enabling - or is it Samsung's ingenious foresight to not enable you to return to a call by simply pressing the phone app again?!? (Which is a real pain in the ass and a crappy user experience that I still can't get accustomed to after nearly a year with this phone).
On AOKP ROM there is choice between dial pad, return to call and add new call when you press phone app icon during call.
Nothing like this on official ROM as far as I know.

Actually, on stock ROMs, there IS an option to end calls with the power button in the call settings.
Edit: ah, I went back and re-read. Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes, the only way back to the phone app during a call if you leave it on stock ROMs is via the notification bar. I personally find it pretty convenient, but everyone has their own opinions.
Thanks
I guess having an Android with a stock ROM is the antithesis of the OS. I seriously need to flash my phone - except my phone is from work. I'm just afraid that if I flash I won't be able to revert to stock if I need to.

can someone make a hack where volume doesn't work on lock screen?

when screen is on, but lock screen still on, volume should work if a media player is going, but otherwise, the volume buttons shouldn't control ringer volume unless you unlock it first. I'm finding in my pocket or when I check time, volume is constantly changed to volume all the way down or all the way up. is there any way to hack a change in this behavior???
thanks ya'll
This is also happening to me a lot. I always keep my phone on vibrate while working. Come to find out my ringer is on full blast during a meeting after checking the time is no fun
noticed this also. bump bump
That would be great it sucks that it changes

This is one of the few things I hate about this phone.
Need mod so Volume Down does turn volume down or turn on vibrate
I hear your pain. Let's keep this thread going or make a new one for a dev to take it on.
On my OG, I used the Button Mapper app to change the Volume Down button to duplicate the Power button. Too bad it only works on Gingerbread.
Benefits of this mod being two fold:
1) To wake the device just press Volume Down. Much easier than top button.
2) When fumbling with the phone, you could not inadvertently turn the volume down and/or set it to Vibrate.
Let's hear some chatter guys.
I'll take anything to quit the pocket volume changing
Wipywd: See the original article for the Evo 4G.
http://www.pocketables.com/2010/12/how-to-remap-buttons-on-your-rooted-htc-evo-4g.html
This was the best thing since sliced bread. I saw some early traffic when the Evo LTE came out with guys trying to make a setting like this. It evolved into forward and backward for audio players. Then there was this one for Viper's ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688556
Recommendation: Change the title of the thread to:
"Dev needed to mod Volume Down button to Power function".
Let's see if we can get more interest and a dev to help us out.
Taz
Not sure if a dev with this device has looked into framework-res.apk that's most likely where this modification should take place. Then again system>usr> keylayouts etc, could be the issue. Is the issue on stock? Or on all roms?
Sent from my EVO
I think you should start a new thread to change the functionality of it, as that's probably more complex than just stopping the volume buttons while the screen is locked. the main problem is volume changed without you meaning to

@wlpywd: Exactly. If you distill your issue down to the basics, I think we are asking almost the same thing. Let's figure this out for a dev to code. We have Sinistertensai's attention. Let's PM to work out the spec and post together.
Whatcha think wlpywd?
like I said, I'm all for ANYTHING that will solve this without needing to flash a whole new rom.
I can't really contribute much to any development of any kind, other than wish-listing, as my Android programming skills are just barely in the realm of existing, but I'll do whatever I can!
