hi,
I was trying to sync my contacts to outlook 2010 using microsoft mobile device center on windows 7 64bit system but it doest not sync due to errors. Is there any other way to back my contacts with full contact info on to my PC so that i can just upload them if in case I flash my ROM.
I would like to download all individual contacts along with the associated notes of contacts on to PC
any suggestions plzzz?
thanks
regards

i back them up using microsoft myphone saves contacts, sms etc

I have the same problem, driving me crazy, trying to ditch smartphone for android. And MyPhone was killed two years ago. XML contacts crashes every time.
Any software out there that can do this simple task? Anything at all?

FYI, just in case anyone still has a Leo, this actually works!

Loads of ways to backup contacts.
PIMbackup is a free one developed here on XDA.
SPB backup can be used in custom backup for contact backup.
TBExport can be used to export to standard formats for import into many things.
My favourite is Contacts Backup which includes a PC viewer & editor app & also can save to standard formats for import into almost anything needed.
few more leads here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4730540
WM has solutions to almost all basic tasks, for sure Microsoft done a poor job on the syncing but the users & XDA fixed most of it.
Don't expect Android to be perfect either, spend more time learning WM6.5.x as is a great tool

Dirt cheap way:
Copy the "pim" file on the root directory of your PDA to anywhere (microSD, your PC.... you name it) and put it on a safe place.
To restore: just rename your current pim file on your PDA to anything else (say pimold)
Soft-RESET
Copy your safely stored pim file back to the root directory of your PDA (BEFORE opening any pim related program, it's, just after a soft reset of your machine)
ALL your pim data is back in place, just where you saved them.
REMEMBER: ALL pim data is saved, no incremental backup, etc, just an "dirt old way" backup/restore with the added advantage that NO external program is needed.
Hope it helps.
Regards.

Retaining SMS, Contacts and Appointments

Background: My Imate PPC (ie Himalaya) is starting to get a little unstable with the apps etc that I run, so I've been debating upgrading it from WM2003 to WM2003SE (the Sin Merged version).
The problem is that I really don't want to lose my contacts, SMS and appointments.
I back everything up on a regular basis with Sprite ... but I realise that I won't be able to restore across ROM versions.
It occurs to me that I could install Outlook (which I loathe) and sync my contacts and appointments to that ... but that doesn't help with my SMS messages. As far as I know Jeyo still can't deal with sub-folders in SMS ... so that's no help.
I experimented with syncing to Thunderbird, which I use, and Sunbird (which I installed for that purpose) ... but given that I don't sync in normal circumstances the results were hideous - I don't see that as a solution.
So guys - who's got any suggestions?

Hey, you can use Sprites Device Upgrade mode to restore to a new ROM but you have to read this first:
https://spritesoftware.crmdesk.com/...earch=Search&area=0&criteria=0&sort=0&start=0
As there are things you need to do before you upgrade your ROM

I've had a good look at that option, and read a lot of comments on the net and to be honest, I'm not sure if I trust it.
Out of desperation I installed outlook and have synced my contacts, appointments and tasks to that.
It still leaves me with my SMS's to be dealt with. Jeyo STILL can't handle sub-folders, after all this time - so it's worthless.
I'll keep at it though

need help! contact list wont sync after upgrade to new rom!

Please help! im dying without my contacts. this is what happened (typing with my 8525 so bare with me)
I had black satin on my 8525. I have done a couple rom changes and the contact list always resynced automatically everytime.
I had to reformat my computer but I had saved my WM_James_Klafe2 file.
a few days ago I reflashed my 8525 with a new rom and when I synced the phone to the laptop it created a new phone name and folder WM_Owner
when I try to sync contacts through activsync it says I need to disconnect phone, install outlook, run outlook and resync.
I haven't lost anything from reformatting have I? I had a microsoft office 2000 cd but its all scratched and won't install. I downloaded a trial version of student office but it didn't help my situation at all. and I didn't even see outlook in the office student 2007 edition anyway.
in the name of god please help im lost.
just now, with my 8525 disconnected from my laptop. I changed the name on my 8525 from WM_Owner to WM_James_Klafe2 which is what my cell was before and that's the name on the folder on my pc that is holding all my info.
but everytime I connect my cell to my pc via activesync it defults back to WM_Owner.

Try this,
Copy the contents of you sync folder to another folder.
delete the partnership and create a new one.
sync with the new partnership.
then copy all the contents that you saved to that folder.
This worked for me....I sync between two laptops and do this quite often.
Hope that helps.....

still no luck. I tried it and it didn't change anything. still no contacts added to my phone.
I think it has something to do with me not having microsoft outlook installed to my computer but I don't know why it matters. I never used outlook anyway.
on activesync, "contacts" are not one of the "information types" that are sync'ed. On Activesync, when I go to Tools, Options, then try to select Contacts as an item to sync I get a message that says "Activesync cannot synchronize Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes, because outlook is not installed on Windows PC. To Sync Email, Calander, Contacts, Tasks, and notes do the following: Disconnect the device, Install and run outlook, and then reconnect the device and try again."
I have outlook express on my pc but that doesn't seem to be good enough.

Sorry dude - Contacts are stored within a file called "outlook.pst" on your PC and not in the syncronised folder(there is sometimes a backup file too called backup.pst), this is a file for Microsoft Outlook NOT Outlook express and it usually lives somewhere around c:/docs & settings/<profilename>/local settings/application data/outlook (varies a tad from OS to OS)
If you still have this file or a backup *somewhere* on your PC (use your search facility) and can re-install Outlook - then you will be able to import this file into Outlook and your contacts from the outlook.pst file will resync to your phone.
If you have deleted (or no longer have) this file on your PC - and you have not used something like PIMbackup on your Hermes then sorry - they've gone.
For information - Outlook contacts is a 2-way sync - ie, scrub your phone and it gets them from the PC. Scrub your PC and it gets them from your phone. Scrub both and they're gone for good unless you've made a backup of either one or the other. Same goes for email, calendar and tasks.

To fix this you need to go to settings>system>About>device ID. You can change the name of your ppc that way (or you can for the Hermes).
Cheers...
Awsome!

I was having the same problem as TC, but that did the trick. Thanks Ultra!
sorry to invade this topic but i have a similar problem in the reversed form however .
i recently formatted my PC but being the idiot i am, i forgot to backup the *.pst file from the Outlook folder. now i still have all my contacts in my phone, but i wanted to know how to transfer them over to Outlook.
Resync to pc after installing outlook. When it asks if you wish to combine or replace items on pc pick combine. If you pic replace it will replace with all the contacts in outlook (none) and unless you have pim backup or another backup of your contacts you will loose everything...
Cheers...

Backing up contacts

Hey, I have a Sprint TP. Want to put a custom ROM, but I 1st have to back up my contacts & other info. can some1 provide a link for a good back up program?
thx
this is a good one that everyone seems to like and use...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
i personally use UC and copy the pim.vol that i backed up and copy over through sdconfg...or just use WMDC...
Try Microsoft MyPhone. Automatic backup and sync of contacts, pics, text msgs or anything you choose. It backs up and restores my contacts (200+) in less then 45 seconds.
MyPhone is excellent but it doesn't work properly if you have Outlook synced to an exchange server. I use PIM Backup for contacts and MyPhone for text messages.

I use SPB backup to restore my contacts and \my docs\ folder Well worth the $ I paid for the full version. You can run scheduled backups and they also have an app to unpack a backup on your PC.
pimbackup is capable of that as well.
+3 on the pim backup...only one i tried and it works aces...tho i strictly only do my contacts and appointments.
i would say that we need a list of everything that you want to back up. if it's just contacts and calendar backing up your pim.vol file manually is rediculously easy (i've done it by accident before). how ever if you want to back up more than that then you will probably want another program. so yeah, let us know exactly what you want to back up.
MyPhone has trouble with hanging on some of the contacts. I just synced my phone with my GMail contacts and calendar so I'll let you know how it goes when I hardreset next time.
Microsoft My Phone
My phone from microsoft is the realy way to go man, Crashed my computer and had bad rom on phone. Myphone stores on the cloud so its always available. Saved my ass and all my business contacts.

Need a Backup-Restore program 4 Contacts...

Hi Friends,
I am having a serious problem with contacts syncing, backup-restore...
I like trying new build android OSs & therefore I need a backup-restore application for contacts, but I can not get a perfect solution up to now...
Even gmail syncing is a disaster for me.. I don't know which way is main, phone or gmail contacts? Sometimes it is bullshitting, syncing but not all groups, no sync for photos of contacts...
My experiences:
1- MyBackupPro-v3.8: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
2- SpriteBackup-v2.5.0.188: Sometimes not restoring groups, & very very slow restore
3- ContactsBackupPro-v2.5.4: Restoring groups but adding " character on contacts which are not having anything on Notes section & put themon a new group "
4- Some others are having problem as restoring contact numbers; ie, I am saving my contacts as a +XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format... & some of them are not restoring saved photos for contacts.
5- PC based backup-restore: Wondershare MobileGo-v1.1.0.111 is backing up, but with destroying the number format as I've just told...
Anyway, is there any contacts backup-restore program that allows you to (correctly) do restore groups + number format + without adding anything?
Finally, I met with android with MIUI, & I miss the Backup program of MIUI's own backup application, it was very perfect.
No advice at all!!
You might want to try manually doing my making a .csv file and importing and exporting to the phone.
In my opinion, people that say that GMail conmtact sync is not working they haven't set it up right...

Thank you but I tried that also, photos are not backed up that way.
Have you tried the actual contacts app import/export? I'm not sure what info is saved by this method but I was assume it'd be a full backup.
Also, this is somewhat related so I just want to mention...
on Wednesday the Google server went wacky and I lost about 3/4 of my contacts from the cloud. I went crazy trying to find a fix but nothing... then I got onto Gmail from the desktop. There is a contacts restore feature, to any time from the past 30 days. I just went to restore to Tuesday, and everything was back. Saved me!
Like amnigo said try the built in import/export function. You can find it from the contacts app menu.
Also the problem you stated about '+XX YYY ZZZ ZZZZ format, but they are restoring contacts with +XXYYYZZZZZZZ format' you should be able to use this Contacts Clean-up (I can't liunk it since I'm a new user so search for it in the android market) I had the same type of problem too and managed to fix it with this.
Try this
Am using this and works well

Hey, can anyone tell me any app that makes contacts backup with all the high quality images in the ics contacts, i tried a lotta apps and import/export and the gmail sync but the picture quality is reduced in those

I know this & tried as well, but as you said, it changes the format & contacts clean-up sometimes does not work (may be some interfere with the rom build, I don't know!)

How to transfer Calendar appointment and call log from Windows Mobile to Android?

My WM touch 3G is no longer function properly, I plan to switch to Sony Experia S. It comes a problem that how all my data stored in WM transfer to android, especially appointments and call log in my old WM transfer to the new android. I usually backup my WM calendar data by PIM backup and the backup file is .csa. Originally I plan to import this .csa file to Outlook 2010, then export to Business Calendar Apps or Gmail. However I find this .csa file cannot be recognized by Outlook. Could anyone kindly help to guide me how to export my WM calendar and import to Business Calendar Apps or Gmail? I would prefer to export it to Business Calendar Apps as I don't want to store my personal calendar in google server. I am also looking for how to transfer the call lot too, I try to keep it as possible. I appreciate for your kindly help. Thank you.
Do anyone know how to solve the problem? Thanks.
If you use Bitpim then I believe you have the option to save certain things as Excel files. Would that work for you?

Thank you for your suggestion. However, I use the build-in calendar in Windows Mobile 6.1. I think it is probably not Bitpim. I googled many times and searched XDA threads that still don't know how to export the WM calendar to android.
Try looking up Bitpim. It's a program for data transfer and media exchange. The website will tell you if it's compatible with your phone. It has a few options for exporting from devices.
