[Q] [Samsung Vibrant] SetCPU - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For those of you who have the app, what are you settings?
Charging/full = ?
Charging AC/Full = ?
Chargin USB/Full = ?
Screen OFF = ?
Battery< = ?
Temp > = ?
The reasons i am asking is that i am having problems finding the right setting to
save battery life while maintaining the speed.
I have been searching around youtube/ etc etc.. and all the settings seem to be on the N1?
Help Plz.

I have played around with this for a while. If you have a stock kernal with no OC ability the one that worked best for me was 1000/100 and 800/100 when screen off and 400/100 when below 30%. I just recently put on Bionix 1.4 and i am useing 1200/100 and 600/100 when screen off and 600/100 when below 30% and all is working quite well. Not a real hi useage day but it has been on for 11 hrs and im at 72%

Thx guys I will give this a go and see if i can come up with good results?
Anyone else got their settings? Post plz, wud really help!!!!

The suggested value/settings I have been reading is to set the minimum at 200, this seems to work great for most people, also try no profiles enabled.
These settings work great on my phone. I've read a lot of people are having issues using 100 as the minimum. Most issues seemed to be fixed by raising the Minimum value to 200.
If this doesn't work, you might have a phone that just will not overclock.
You also might read up about JAC XMOD OC/UV 1.1 The new version released today ups the voltage slightly at 1.2 OC to help those who are having trouble over clocking.
Good luck
The JAC XMOD OC/UV stands for over clock under volt. The under volt is to help increase battery life.

Are you guys noticing any stability issues with SetCPU? I tried it out last month but had to uninstall after a week due to constant freezes and reboots.

I had that. i would grab my phone to wonder why i was missing calls and it was turned off. setcpu was the culprit.

Hmmm I have never had issues with phone reception
On the other hand I do have a question tho. Do profiles help or no; I have asked pppl around some say its bad some say it's good can summone attest to this?

Make sure you have it set on 'conservative' or you will have problems with your phone turning off. Also, keep min at 200.

I've had mine set at min 100 for the past month and I've had no problems..

I've had problems with the phone shutting off while set at 100. I guess everyones phone is different.

I was set at Conservative and upped the minimums to 200. Still got freezes and reboots. I was hoping that the Dev has fixed these issues, but was wondering what all your experiences have been.

I took it off my phone because of the issues stated and it was sucking my battery down fast.

Cm7 - horribly battery - i don't think its cm7

i'VE BEEN RUNNING CM7 for a month (about)
I update to the latest version and right now im on the KANGED version thats not OFFICIAL release but it is made by the dev.
Anyways...
Every day i wake up in the morning, from 100% my battery goes to about 90- 85% from using it then i go to school, phone in my pocket for about 7-8 hours.
It usually goes to 70% or 75% when i check soon as school is over.... but today.. it was at 32%!!?
My battery has been draining FAST this past week. IDK what's causing it, but i think its a app, but watchdog lite doesn't show anything at all.
Any tips at all guys?
- PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TELLING ME TO PUT IT ON AIRPLANE MODE WHILE IN MY POCKET- I GET TEXTS FROM MY BROTHER/MOM TELLING ME IF I HAVE TO WALK OR IF THEIR GOING TO PICK ME UP AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFO LIKE THAT-
Please help me out here.
I love CM7, and it's NEVER been this bad, but if it is because of CM7 then i have no choice but to go back to 2.2.1
EXTRA INFO:
I don't have a data plan so... my phone can't communicate with other servers and crap.
I keep wifi off, bluetooth off GPS off.
Maybe i'll have auto brightness on but thats it.
Check what profile are you using on setcpu? Also you might wanna check the signal while in you school.

I suspected it was SetCPU doing this, so i uninstalled that.
the signal is... okay? When in my pocket it sometimes goes to NO Signal, but is usually at 2-3 bars.

It says Android OS is using the most.
Then Display
then Cell Standby
then Phone Idle.
Honestly, my phone isn't even turned on during the whole thing..............
I maybe check the time once in the while, but besides that its always idle.
I just slept for a hour. I lost 10% in that hour. WTF is this lol
try recalibrating the batter by using either root explorer or the terminal to delete /data/system/battstats.bin as sometimes CWM on cm7 for galaxy s doesn't delete it.
i have the same issues and tried everything..i dnt even have data plan to use internet and i keep my 2g on and my battery still drains like pipes in the sewers

I use battery calibrator app and used it alot and battery left app shows, my readings are accurate but not from 0% because I never reach 0%.
Time to go to 0.

try not using the battery claibrator app, and removing it from your phone and manually deleting the batterystats.bin file from /data/system and see if that helps your phone at all.
I also suggest getting CPUSpy from the market, and track what states your phone is in and for how long it is in certain states. if it's not going into the sleep state, then something is keeping the cpu active (possibly a governor setting).

That aint normal my friend, you should jump into another modem, regardless of what you're on. Maybe that helps and by all means, what kernel are you on?
I'm on the stock kernel... Should I visage and can you link me to more cm7 modems or atleast a good one that works good?

The stock one should be battery efficient but I honestly haven't really tried it out. Give r12 or r25 a shot from here. They've been great in every aspect to me. Just make sure you're not on kang 7.1 when flashing, it doesn't support that.
As for modems I'd suggest either KB5 or KB1. If you're on either one switch to the other, may help.
don't run phone on "performance" -- it's silly to run the cpu at top speed when the phone is just sitting doing nothing. Run it at "on demand" or "conservative" especially if it is OCed. Also set screen timeout at a minute or less. If you got the phone used, it's possible the battery is old. If you reboot it a lot and install roms and stuff you'll run the battery down fast.
Well..
Yesterday I did a cleaning of apps i never use and some i installed recently.
I guess that did the trick? I have no more problems came back from school and my battery's at 76%
@Abu, thanks for the tips. i don't want to get a different kernel and modem.. im on kanged 7.1 lol.
@Nazcalito
Fearing it was that i uninstalled SetCPU.
Should i re-get it and make it OnDemand?

don't use setcpu if you don't have to. the built int scaler for the kernel is actually much better than letting setcpu run in the background polling the cpu and system for changes.
if you're running a custom kernel, get voltage control, and with it you can UV, OC, under clock, and change scheduler.
And in Settings -> CM Settings -> Performance -> CPU Settings, you can control min frequency, max frequency, and governors.

CM7 seems to heat up my phone rather quick? Is anyone having that issue?

I'm running prebeta 4 - and just wondering if anyone is having there phone heat up on them? It only takes about 5-10 minutes of use and it gets pretty warm? I have gone into the performance settings and lowered the cpu speed to 913mhz? That seemed to help a tad, but it could just be in my head.
Another thing i noticed is that copy and paste doesn't work. Is anyone else able to solve that issue?
Thanks!

It does heat up a bit. You may want to try undervolting your phone. I've noticed that it doesn't get as warm. If you do a search there are a few threads on the topic. No C+P problems for me.
I installed CM7 yesterday too. Haven't had any issues with heating up yet. Idle is around 32C. Performance wise , this is the best ! as enomai said, you can under volt your phone by going to settings>cm settings>performance>"watch out for the dragons ahead! >CPU settings>change the min and max cpu frequency to your desire MHz.
You might need to reflash and wipe everything. Or find out what rogue app you got going.
I voided my warranty and your mum.
had a force close and notice that caused it to overheat, checked set cpu and noticed it sitting at 1300 constantly and not scaling or dropping at all.. had to reboot for it to cool down.

AAhhh ok. Well in that case I would say if it's not a piece of software * like for example do you have TWO overclock softwares installed, like setcpu AND another?*, then it's probably a kernel problem. I would uninstall whatever software you have to overclock, reboot into fastboot, do a
fastboot erase boot
fastboot reboot
, and then reboot into recovery and try flashing the kernel again. wipe cache, see if this works.
Do I need to get Setcpu to undervolt my phone? I'm a bit nervous that the heat will damage my phone. I really love cm7, but I need it to not overheat. This never happened when I ran stock? What do you guys think?
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
I havnt been running into any overheating issues at all, actually been running cooler on CM7. Im running Faux's 1.3 OC kernal instead of the kernal that came with it though. Try reflashing the kernal or flashing another one of Faux's kernals for CM7. I would definitely install Setcpu so u can moiter the battery and processer temps. Set up a few profiles and try undervolting some.

Help with voltage settings

Im using voltage control on ICS 4.0.3 Im not overclocked, anyone done any experimentation with the UV settings? Im wondering how low i can go without causing a reboot. Let me know what settings you are all using. If it helps Im using Nelsons new kernal. Thanks everyone!
I guess you could try the chart on glitch kernels thread.
Though it might be completely different since diff kernel but you can use it as a guideline
remember to check off set on boot when messing with voltages and only set on boot after you test for like a day without issue

Each vibrant cpu is different. Thats why some can overclock to 1.7 and others cant OC at all.
Back it off a bit and run it while a while - if its good try a little more.
As mentioned above, all vibrant are different so there is no copy/paste answer to this.
However, I will tell you what my settings are, and maybe they can serve as a starting point for your own experimentation.
1000 -50 (sometimes 25 depending on the rom/kernel)
800 -75
400 -125
200 -150
100 -175
Try different settings out, a day at a time...if you make it through a day with no freezes/ reboots....maybe try 25 lower. if you experience a freeze, try locating the problem setting and increasing it. Good luck

[Q] Any Ideas? - Reboots almost everytime I use Internet and/or Charge.

Hey Guys.
I recently had a question about going back to stock firmware and kernel. Because my phone had this strange reboot problem and i felt going to stock would fix it.
[Q] Need Help - Can I Safely Go Back To Stock ROM And Kernel?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1978781
I did manage to get myself back to stock in the end
(Lots of thanks to Dzufa for his consistent help)
But now, my problem still persists and I felt it should be in a different thread.
My phone will just freeze suddenly and reboot whenever I do most things.
Normaly always while im using internet, or charging.
Example..
Even simple texting while charging sends me into a bootloop(3 or 4 loops before it stops)
Or using the internet for about 15mins.
If i use the internet WHILE charging. It lasts no more than 2 mins before a loop.
A common side effect of this, is loss of data(which is the biggest problem about it really)
It deletes all my texts, contacts and other info. (sometimes even when i manualy turn my phone off, or when it runs out of charge)
My Question is,
Does anyone have any knowledge about this problem? Any ideas why this is happening? and most importantly, is it fixable?
Thanks anyone who replys!
Oh and, I guess I should mention this too.

Hey dude,
try to check your CPU temp, you can use rom toolbox to do that. See attached sample picture.
Some phones cant more than 45 C, and it will automatically reboot once this temp reached!!!
And then reduce you max CPU Freq to +/- 500 MHz, and check the result.
Also defective battery can produce this kind of reboot.

Hey man sorry i havnt got back to you sooner! Alot of thanks for your reply =D
Ive been keeping an eye on my CPU Temp (Battery temp? I dunno, just finding general temp)
I downloaded Rom toolbox, but i cant see where that attachment is located?
Like.. how do i find out that info? I downloaded something completely different for CPU temp because i had no luck on RTB.
And, Reduce my "Max CPU Freq" to just 500? Wouldnt that like.. seriously lag it xD
Thanks for your help man, I definetly believe your on the right track with it being the CPU overheating.
Ive been underclocking it at 798 or something and trying to keep my phone cool.
Definite progress! Still cant charge at use net at same time tho, but im getting general good internet use now =)
If you could help me out with that RBT cpu part, id be greatful.
Cheers!

For all that have reboot problems with 3g internet I will reccomend to change this line in build.prop in the system folder:
ro.ril.gprsclass=7 and then reboot.
If You do not have this line, just add this.
Normal setting have a value of 10
In some cases some of x10 have a bug with full 3g. It is a hardware problem. Some x10 works fine but there some witch have a problem with this. Changing this value from oryginal 10 to 7 makes less power consumer and less hot your x10. Also change this value make a slowest transfer with 3g network but this is not a problem.
I try defferent values. I try 9,8 and it was still problem and my x10 was hot and reboot. With value 7 is stable. Where Your problem are still in time
Try change value to 6.

[Q] Help undervolting

Hello
I'm using the Ultima rom and I need help undervolting. In Stweaks there are only sliders per frequency but on stock with Siyah kernel, there was a drop down list with -25 and -50 on it.
I don't know how to edit using the sliders. How can I get the drop down list back?

check for boeffla kernel it has drop down list but make sure it works for ur Rom or ull screw it up
No offense but if you can't figure out a slider, perhaps you shouldn't be undervolting.
Besides, most devs don't believe it saves battery anyway. After stopping undervolting recently myself, I'm inclined to agree

Nah, I finally learned how to do it using System Tuner. I was confused because when I moved the slider a bit, all the numbers changed and I couldn't figure out where the -25 was gonna be at. But I got it now.
Are you sure it doesn't attribute to battery life? I went a whole -100mV in general and for me it seems to have improved a bit. Not by much but it is noticeable.
Anything else you recommend? I'm completely new to the device, but I familiarize with tweaking very quickly.

You mean better stability after or during the undervolting? And what's your stand on OC? Do you also think UC saves battery as well?
Lol sorry, I just like asking people that know about these things before I try messing with them.
Yeah its more stable at stock voltages.
I recently stopped overclocking. I don't have any particular reason not to overclock. I was troubleshooting an issue and overclocking and undervolting should be the first to go when doing this. Just didn't have a need to re-overclock.
One thing I would say though... if you're overclocking, don't add more voltage than 1400 MHz is set as stock... that adds heat. Heat + clock = damage

I see. Thank you very much for all this.
But I ran into a problem. Screen flickering. When the screen is off and I press the home button, a bright flash appears then the lock screen turns on. That's the only problem I've been having and it's scaring me like crazy. I've seen some flickering issues but none like this one. Do you think it has to do with the volting? I've restored normal voltages and hasn't happened so far. It's happened twice since last night and today. Both after undervoltage. I hope that was the cause.
