I have a Sony VAIO with Windows 7 & DLNA.
I have a Galaxy S2.
What i dont have is a WiFi Router. I am yet to get it.
Can anyone tell me if its possible to connect my laptop and Phone somehow without a Wifi router?
I was reading that I can transfer I could transfer file to phone without USB connection. Not sure how
Also Can i create a HotSpot in phone and make the PC connect to that Wifi hotspot?
I tried Connectify on Windows 7 but it never worked. It was never able to create a network for some reason

Click to collapse
Go to settings -> Wireless and network -> Tethering and portable hotspot -> Then select "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings" - From this you can set up a Wi-Fi network that uses your mobile internet.
Once you've set this up connect to the wireless network via your laptop and launch the app called "Kies air". From there you can transfer files without the need of the usb connector...
To use DLNA you need a wireless network, i wouldn't recommend using the portable Wi-Fi hotspot for it.
Thank you very much Stylee32 this helps
hope i will get my WiFi router soon
Edit: I tried this solution. Got my PC connected to Mobile. But the url which Kies Air gave didnt work
Edit 2: Finally it worked. Thank you so much
No problem at all, glad i could help
I have a wired connection at home (no router), and I tried to connect my TP to the internet via an ad-hoc connection created by my laptop, but it doesn't seem to be working. It simply connects and disconnects over and over again. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I have a Windows 7 computer, and the wifi on my TP DOES work, as I have connected to the internet at work via a router.
ad-hoc is not natively support on android devices....
Is there any way to get it to start working after rooting it?
Try this link. Worked for me

Greetings!
Is it possible (is there an application for it maybe) to create ADHOC network on android mobile phone that DOES NOT share mobile's phone internet connection? PC client with internet will connect to mobile's phone access point and share its internet with the phone!
My situation is as follows:
I have a PC with Win7 Ultimate! Modem that connects to the internet is Huawei cable ADSL (non-wireless). It is configured in BRIDGE mode and set in windows to share its internet connection! I have integrated WiFi - AP b/g card on my motherboard.
I have configured the ADHOC network with WEP encryption on my PC, so my other devices (laptop and my mobile phone, which is HTC HD2 with ANDROID ROM) can connect to my PC and have internet access!
THIS CONFIGURATION, for some reason, DOES NOT work. My laptop and my mobile phone, who are clients, CAN'T CONNECT to my PC ADHOC network! They can detect the network, however they get stuck at "acquiring network address".
My laptop has Win7 Home Edition, so, I have created ADHOC network on him with WEP encryption. Both my PC and my mobile phone, CAN detect the laptop's access point and CAN CONNECT TO IT! My PC (client) then shares his internet connection with laptop (AP) and my mobile phone (client)!
So, in order to have internet through WiFi with my phone, I have to turn on PC and my laptop.
Since I can't connect with my mobile phone on my PC's ADHOC network, I want to try the opposite. I want the mobile phone to be an ADHOC access point WITHOUT internet connection, and my PC will act as a client WITH shared internet access!
Is this possible? If yes, is there an application that can do this (other applications on the market, for example: Barnacle WiFi Tether can create ADHOC network, but WITH internet sharing... I need without)!
guys i need help,
when i created hotspot with laptop using software like Connectify,
other phones can connect & download via playstore without any problem.
but when i connect my xperia sola to the hotspot,
its okay at first, i can browse internet but after awhile it will kill the hotspot,
means that the hotspot is no longer available for other devices to connect. even my phone itself cannot connect.
i need to restart the hotspot to be able to connect again, and problem continue again.
please help me. :crying:
Once I start my portable hotspot on my phone and connect with the laptop, the laptop has no internet access but my phone does. I switch the mobile networks a few times from 3G to LTE then the connection works on the laptop but the connection on the phone doesnt work. I have tried USB tethering, bluetooth and wireless. I don't see what the problem is. Running ViperOS. Viper-scale-20180702-Coral-v3.1.1-UNOFFICIAL
