[Q] Refresh mediascape - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently cleaned up my music files (put them into folders and stuff). Now my mediascape shows every album and song twice. Of course only one actually plays and the other one gives an error message. I tried other media players like meridian, but they also have the same issue.
Is there a way to make Mediascape refresh?

I ever asked once. In my case is not all images that I download from zedge is shown in mediascape. At last I try to switch off the phone and switch on again. Media scape is refreshed and all imges show properly. Try it. May be this will work.

Nope doesn't work. Rebooted several times already

May be you should use another application. Media scape is not so useful at all actually.

Have you tried [Clear Data] beneath Settings > Applications?

i've also used meridian, but same problem. Apparently, not all my music gets detected either. I just tried clear data. Didn't work

Try running scandisk on your memory card and see if Windows detects any errors.

Music Selector shows wrong letter on scroll

Hey,
So for awhile now, I've had a problem with selecting music. Whenever using the default music app or using music to select ringtones, I notice that when scrolling the letter which pops on the screen is not the same as the point in my library. I hope this makes sense. I have attached a thumbnail to make it easier to show.
I've had this problem in multiple versions of 1.6, in X10i and X10a Global 2.1, X10i Nordic 2.1 and in AOSP 2.2. I've tried to remove all my music from the SD Card and re-add it, but that did not fix it. I've also tried to erase all data in Music and Media Storage.
If any of you know a way to fix this, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Terul

PowerAMP "Too many failed files, Playing will stop now"?

Hey everybody, having some trouble with my PowerAMP fairly regularly. It starts up and plays music fine, but after a while it always comes through with this error (Too many failed files, playing will stop now.) If I reboot and go back into PowerAMP, it all works fine again. This keeps happening though. I guess I'll try uninstalling it and loading again to see if that fixes it. Was wondering if anyone more software savvy had some other ideas. Maybe something is jacked up with the sd card? But if this was the case wouldn't i run into a similar problem when flipping through pictures and videos?
I"m not sure if Fixing Permisions would help but it could just be an SD card issue or it is running into files that are in the playlist but aren't on the SD Card anymore?
Shouldn't be running into any of those given it forms the available songs by scanning the card. Seems to be something with the sd card. I'll try permissions, I haven't done that in a while anyway (if it aint broke don't fix it! lol) The reload didn't work. I know the songs are there as it gives the name of a file that is supposedly failed, but after the reboot it plays fine. Kind of strange.
Was going to be adding some music, maybe I'll try wiping all the files I have on there and just reload em through my pc.
Let me know if permissions works.. other then that I can't think of anything that would cause the issue.
Alright, went through and wiped out the music folder then reloaded a bunch of songs. Still having the same problem. Fixed permissions too. Seems pretty damn weird to me, anyone else having similar problems?
Tried uninstalling and reloading again and that seams to have fixed things...I'll let you guys know after a day or two of usage. Weird.
Hey im having the same issue i have my music on the internal sd card all the files are wma the app will play like 5-10 songs then says too many failed songs. Then going to look at what folders it is looking at it says that could not find sd card. if i restart the app it'll install native libraries then scan then able to play 5-10 songs again....wierd
Try going to SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS>MANAGE APPLICATIONS> then go to the "all" TAB. Scroll down and clear both the MEDIASYNC and MEDIASTORAGE. The problem is due to a double sync where there are empy place holders for songs thus looking like "failed files" reload poweramp and it will scan music folder again and wallah... Fixed!
Like I said before, I just uninstalled, made sure everything was deleted, then redownloaded the app from the market and all is well. Haven't had any problems since.

I tried that and still did the same thing and by the way though the stock music player plays all the songs with no problems
Same for me... Since I have been using the current ROM (FLB_R9), PowerAMP can not play a single file, while the stock player is really happy with any of them!
Go to SETTINGS/Applications/Manage Applications/PowerAMP
Under Storage press "Clear data"..
Rescan music folder again.
Worked for me
Had the same problem. Even though I loved Poweramp, I switched to Mixzing. I even had the paid Poweramp. Haven't had any issues with Mixzing. It has an E Q just like Poweramp, and it plays folders too. Got tired of Poweramp and its foibles. Very happy with free version of Mixzing.

Should point out clearing MEDIASTORAGE will seemingly delete all your ringtones! However a reboot of the phone will restore those ringtones again.
Just a heads up.
This might be the answer

This condition just started on my Galaxy S3 after using PowerAmp for months. I looked for the both the suggested sync files on the S3 but found nothing. No other stock music player on the S3 will play the music either. Your thoughts please.

Hi.
I have the same problem.
Someone could solved it?
Thanks and sorry for my english!
I've been having this issue as well, running all my music from my SDcard, will try a few things and report back. I'm using poweramp because the stock player doesn't seem to work with my card, says songs are unplayable, doesn't show all my music etc. I just tried disabling system media scanner/MTP in advanced folder library options and I'll report back.
My solution
I found this problem after disabling APOLLO in my MAKO ROM PACMAN
As soon as i enabled it, POWERAMP started working. Check if such coincidence works for u too
guys here is how I fix mine : FIX PERMISSION
if still not working try uninstall and install again.

Mediascape not showing any files.

Right I've looked around the forum and the internet endlessly for an answer to this, and have come up with nothing. My problem started when i updated my X10i to the 2.1 version; This caused all media to stop showing on my Mediascape, be it Music, Videos or pictures. I've tried playing the music with my File manager and it works fine, I've tried putting new music on, and it works fine, I've gone to the Mediascape menu and played around with the settings and nothing changed, I've also clicked on the Get Media Info setting, and gotten the message "No music files on memory card" when there are CLEARLY files there.
I would extremely appreciate any help possible.
Are you sure that there is no .nomedia file in the folders where your media is situated? It could be hidden file.

Yess!!!! I have no idea why the file was there, but that solved everything. Thank you so very much for your help

[Q] music in player shows up twice

Hi everyone,
It looks like every music track I have shows up twice in music player. One of the two copies does not work (i.e., program says cannot read this kind of file). I first noticed this after I tried opening the track on 'Play Music' app.
Is there a reason AND a fix for this?
Many thanks!

Hi there
If your running Stock Rom
Then go into Settings - Application - Manage Application
Close out anything that is bloatware
Try to use Task Manager hit clean all applications to see if this fix the issue...
This Device shouldn't have any issues at all......
Did you put your music on your SD Card if you did make a folder on your main SD Card called "Music" put all your music in this folder.
Do you have extra tracks like duplicates?
Clear your caches then unmount your sd card then clear again then mount sd card then reboot. That's how I fixed mine

How to troubleshoot media scanner?

I used to have a problem with the media scanner making duplicate song entries, only one would play and the other was invalid. For some reason that went away and now it adds media once and never scans again, so if I add songs later they never get picked up to be shown in the music player or winamp etc.
I found these tips in another thread here:
go to application manager> all application and search
-media storage,
-music player,
-gallery application
and just delete cache and data and restart. It will solve the problem a it force to re build data base

This works still but it is a complete PITA because it resets wallpapers, ringtones and all sorts of other things to default and I don't want to have to do this every time I add a song.
How do I fix the media scanner, does it even have logs or something I can look at?
Problem is on a Galaxy Note i717 ICS 4.0.4.
It appears that if I restart the phone it will scan again and not create duplicates. Also started using doubletwist and changes that syncs show up after a bit. Might be getting better on its own?
