Read somewhere that SE Thailand has started with 2.3.3 in X10. Couldn't get it confirmed but came across smthing interesting
http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/pro...ax10?cc=th&lc=th#view=features_specifications
Of course the page is in Thai but translate it and you will see that it says Xperia X10 has Radio FM under entertainment specs.
Does it mean the phone has a built in FM receiver or is it an online radio app??
A similar thread exists (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683083) but none could answer the question.
no built in receiver, just over data via app
Sent from my X10 using XDA Premium App
Over data with app isn't remotely close to FM radio.
To answer your question, the FM Radio Receiver is referring to the MW600 headset, which was bundled with X10s in Europe and Asia I believe. The headset has a built in FM radio and can work alongside the X10, any number of android phones or even just by itself I believe.

Yes sir, I am aware of the MW600. I bought my phone in The Netherlands, so didn't get the headset with it. But Thailand SE site mentions Radio FM and they are not getting MW600 either. I guess the X10 hardware has no built in FM but ohh well, we keep dancing to the tunes of Xperia anyway
The Rachael's Big Mystery
[conspiration mode ON]
I have a theory:
X10 is built with ET technology.
This is the reason why nobody in this world knows the real X10 hardware.
Some people said that it can run very well under Froyo, even Gingerbread. The manufacturer engineers said no.
Some people say that it has multitouch. The manufacturer said it has only single touch due to hardware limitations.
We have a 16M colors capable screen, like the other mobiles. The manufacturer let us use only 65K. At first they said it was Donut fault, but even with Eclair+ we can see only 65K.
Some say that the frontal light sensor is truly a cheap frontal VGA cam (that would be hiddenly working with the built in facial recognition software!). "No no no!", says the manufacturer.
Now this strange FM radio rumor...
Who knows which other mysteries our Rachael hides from us?

Haha very funny

Tht is quite an insight my friend. We shall check properly and we could find "Not Made in China" inscribed on our X10 which proves ET technology. You wont be surprised I guess.

We will hardly ever know everything that is inside x10, there is no complete hardware specs.
Someday we may find out that there is an infrared on it and we can use it to control the TV, rsrsrs.
We may find out that we can use to open garage doors. also kkk.
I recall a guy reporting that his X10 was ran over by a truck and still survived. Screen partly craked but touch was still good and everything worked
BTW, Please dont try this at home (or outside)
No FM radio in X10
Please, can anyone with RAZR check in music app is there option for FM radio?
(I think that before starting the app, you must insert 3.5mm headphones to enable this option in player)
thx

Confirmed with Verizon on twitter, no built-in FM radio.
Maybe it's there but just disabled like it was in the atrix. It is a shame why motorola keen on not putting fm radio on most of their devices.

Hello someone tried the Radio that comment?
thanks
i tried MotoFMRadio.apk ... provided in that link ... force close .. using gsm razr xt910
Using an app like Any Cut (Free on the market) you can create a shortcut to an FM radio app - there's one built in alright, just doesn't seem to have the hardware to go with it. It'll prompt you to insert headphones, but will never find channels or turn on.
Anyone know if the chipset actually supports it?
Sent from my Motorola RAZR
I remember reading this on engadget and there is no mention of an FM chip unfortunately

Hi
There is no FM radio on Razr...
But you can buy for exemple Sony MW600 device (it's a stereo bluetooth headset with integrated FM radio) for 40€... It's works fine with Razr...

Perhaps they are saving it for ICS?
I mean, why bother to make a gingerbread app for it when they have to do it again for ICS?
But then again, it is sloppy work... same with that NFC device they stuck in it which doesn't work.
It's not as if it's something new; back in the day, I bought two Motorola A925s with a really nice AGPS installed which turned out to be faulty on both (one never got fix, the other one was just dead) and was probably never meant to be used for something else than a marketing gimmick...

It's still unconfirmed, last I checked. Pretty sure the RAZR's WiFi/GPS/BT chip does have FM capabilities, and is just lacking driver support. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20133613 for further discussion on the chipset.

Sorry, but WL1285 has no reference in the TI database. the Wilink 7 showing here is just WL1281/WL1283 chips....
How do you know whether WL1285 is not a custom made chip from TI to Moto.... and the validity to the iFixit's data can be questioned also..

The Chipworks teardowns clearly show both the Droid 3 and RAZR have the WL1285C chip, and the Droid 3 supports FM. Of course, the Droid 3's chip is labelled 2-WL1285C-13M1HH3, and the RAZR's is labelled WL1285C-19M0JZ3, so they may well be physically different revisions, it's certainly possible the RAZR lacks FM support entirely. I really don't think the information we have is conclusive enough to say "There is no FM radio unit in the hardware at all", though.
Don't know that this is what you're looking for but I use the app TuneIn Radio. Yeah, I know, it's internet-based.
However, with my Droid X I tried several "radio apps" but couldn't pull in a 100-watt FM station I listen to. Nothing worked with this ONE single station.
Now on the Razr, I've found the TuneIn Radio and it's all I need for my local station.
For those with Maxx battery tunein radio wouldn't hurt but a regular razr would die quickly without fm radio support. When we have unlocked bootloader, we can have the fm radio feature unlocked, too.
Tried a lot of radio apk, all failed to deliver signal and sound.
FM radio
When I bought my XT910 it comes with android 2.3.5 and FM radio works! I cleary remember my hard dilemma to install ICS with RSDlite or not. I knew that will lose FM and accept this. Now, I wonder is this was smart choice?
So, XT910 definitely have FM radio capability in hardware, just lack new drivers to support this. Bad choice from Moto to not implement this in android 4+
Hi guys,
i found this in an article:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57389687-94/the-power-of-bluetooth-4.0-itll-change-your-life/
One-tap hookup
Another convenience newer forms of Bluetooth brings is compatibility with NFC chips. Both Bluetooth versions 3.0 and 4.0 can talk to NFC hardware in phones and laptops to make pairing a simple process of tapping the two devices together. So you can imagine configuring Wi-Fi settings on mobile gadgets just by resting them on NFC equipped routers or hooking up headsets with tablets and phones in the same manner. For example, Motorola's new Elite Sliver headset already has this NFC pairing ability. Frankly the idea setting up a gadget this fast gives me goosebumps.
What Exactly does this mean??? can we pair our desire x with NFC phones??
Or am i totally in the wrong direction??

for pairing with nfc devices you need a NFC sensor in the phone which can interact with NFC enables devices like portable speakers or laptops to be put in simple words NFC just removes the troublesome pairing problems in bluetooth or wifi and helps in data transfer via bluetooth or wifi which ever is available and is faster (in most cases its just wifi but relating to this article and practical life Bluetooth also comes in the picture)
hope this clarifies your doubt
I already know what you said. I'm just trying to understand the article. He says Bluetooth 4 can pair with NFC. How ?

Bluetooth devices with A2DP profiles can pair with nfc devices which is seen Bluetooth headsets and speakers usually which is missing in our dx so technically you can't connect with nfc
Edit - tried to pair with my friends xperia p with nfc with A2DP profile from an app failed
I think Bluetooth is just used as a way to trust the NFC partner.

I've read that the snapdragon 400 chip natively support GPS.
Is it possible to active it in a custom rom ?

No, while the processor chip may have support for GPS, the watch does not have the required sensors needed to get a GPS lock and to feed data to the processor.
If the sensor was actually in the device? Certainly there would be a way to enable it with a custom ROM, but that still dictates that the sensor would need to be built into it.

It means it natively has support for a GPS, it doesn't mean it has one embedded within the Snapdragon 400 SoC.
How about a portable gps reciever it's small and you can take with you. I have a nexus 6 and a LG G not GPS when I go for a run I have to take my phone to track my run could there be a way to bluetooth a GPS reciever to work with G watch. Like the way some people use there tablets and GPS same Idea?
What about Wi-Fi?
Many sites I follow are currently suggesting that the smartwatches powered by the Snapdragon 400 might have built in Wi-Fi antennas. The LG G Watch has a Snapdragon 400 APQ8026 but this SoC doesn't seem to have it. Can anyone confirm this?

When I looked at the teardown, the radio chipset is solely BT 4.0 :\ no wifi hardware in sight. However while the SoC supports it, without the hardware, that support is useless. Sorry to say
I read the watches have wifi but no antennas. Is it that they actually have the needed hardware but lack the circuitry for an antenna? Maybe a hardmod? Or no?

No. What you are reading is that they have the hardware to SUPPORT a wifi module (Some do actually only lack the antenna, however those will also lack drivers since the OEMs are not likely to make them). Not that there is one built into the SoC. As with the GPS above, even though your SoC supports something, doesn't mean it already has the hardware needed built into it.
@LittleLX: I actually attempted this and attempted to sideload a Bluetooth GPS receiver app to the watch, unfortunately because almost all of them use the Android ActionBar, it refused to start up. Android Wear is restricting applications to the swipe to dismiss action and forbidding the actionbar on versions of Android with Swipe to Dismiss on. That said, there is definitely room for this type of application to be developed for Android Wear, I had sideloaded CF.Lumen and ES File Manager, and while CF.Lumen doesn't open because of it's ActionBar, I had put together a tasker app factory app to attempt to play around and trigger (I had manually installed the CF.Lumen driver) it, it did show that it would work if I had been able to set up location services inside the app (choose the location for the automatic dimming..)
So Android Wear has potential to be a very powerful and extensible platform, developers just aren't interested in it yet it seems. We as a people seem to be stuck looking at a smartwatch as a watch rather than a wrist computer.
1. how has the dual gps chip helped you?
2. are there any updated lists of phones with dual gps chips?
3. do you get that problem where google maps gives you voice directions much earlier than needed? this may be a google maps problem, dont really know, not sure if anyone does
-
I don't see any improvements really in a day to day use. For my use case (Google maps, waze, Uber), it's the same accuracy than my previous Motorola G phone.
By using a GPS test app, the best accuracy I've seen was 3 meters tough, I never got the advertised 3cm, so I don't know if the dual gps is working, or if it is region dependent.
