I have a tmo Vibrant. For some reason the in call volume (the volume at which I hear the person that calls me talking) keeps getting reset to zero. I find that when I answer, I often (not always) have to turn the volume back up and say "can you repeat that?".
I am using Vibrant9, but I had the problem with the stock ROM as well. Does anyone else have this problem? Any idea what is causing the volume to reset?
Do you use the volume keys to turn down the media volume? I've noticed that the voice call volume level seems to be affected by the media volume. I would love to see these separated.

Hi,
I'm on Galaxy S2; Android 2.3.3; KE7.
When using headphones on my device the volume is great for music, videos, youtube, and even skype. However for some reason it's only around half of that level when calling (even tough the volume is set to maximum).
I've done some google research and found out that it's quite a common issue with this phone. A workaround has been found by using some codes. However, it is not a permanent solution.
I've found a post which says that someone had called Samsung and they acknowledged the issue and will send them a new phone where this issue has been fixed.
1) Has anyone found a permanent solution to increasing the volume of the call when on headset?
2) I've also found a post where someone says that apparently Samsung will fix this issue in Android 2.3.4. Can you confirm this? When will this be available? If it's longer than 1-2 weeks I will have to send my phone for a refund/exchange (although I love it).
Your advice on the above is much appreciated.
Hi, I've done some further research and I think I've found the solution:
First make sure that your sound is on (as you can't access the volume settings in the silent mode) -> press the Menu button -> Settings -> Sound -> Volume -> and then increase the 'Incoming call' volume.
I've just tested the call volume when on headset and it has been increased to a more that enough level. Great. My love to this phone is growing
Now I have to figure out how to disable the camera shutter sound....but that's a question for another post...
It seems that the solution above worked for some time but now my phone started to deliver very low call volume when on headphones. Maybe it's due to the Android update, I don't know.
However I found that the issue is related to the media volume. For example when I listen to music and turn the volume low then this affects the incoming call volume and it becomes low as well.
The solution to this problem seems to be: make sure that the music volume is max before you want to make a call. I've just tested it an is seems to do the trick.
It would be great to hear to another solutions to this problem for unrooted phones.
Heard this app works well,

Hi,
I've been having consistent problems with volume, specifically being too low, and especially while connected to a bluetooth headset. I also noticed some odd, and likely related, behavior with the volume in general.
Here's how I see it: Start some music playing. Go to Menu > Settings > Sound > Volume and scrub the Media volume slider back and forth from 100% to 0% and back (and repeat).
On my Atrix, the max sound gets consistently lower each pass until it's silent, even at 100% setting. I think this is part of the issue with the media volume. As I adjust it up and down it loses some peak volume each time. I can bring it back up with a lot of tinkering (mostly through the OS volume controls and in PlayerPro), but I have not found the formula to deal with this in a normal way.
Has anyone else seen this, or can suggest a way to prevent or restore these volume anomalies? Running GB and rooted. Thanks!
I haven't seen this specific issue, but if you think the Atrix has volume problems, go try to use the Infuse without voodoo sound.
Are you saying I should try an Infuse ROM? I'm not sure what you're instructing me to do. Sorry for the extra clarification needed.
No, I'm just saying that your issues could be worse. The Infuse is another phone. Disregard my post if it confuses you.
I use PlayerPro also and have no issues over BT. I start my music playing, turn media volume up full via the volume up button, then control volume level after that with my headset.
I never go into the volume in settings, as it is greyed out for me. I am set on silent and vibrate always as I spend a lot of time in meetings.
My issue is not with PlayerPro or even BT (though it is more noticeable with it), the problem is that the audio gets progressively lower as I raise/lower the volume. PlayerPro does have some volume settings, which is why I mentioned it here.
I found an app called Volume+ that works fine with my rooted Atrix. It boosts the bluetooth audio. I still have the problems I listed above, but this one app may enough to get me over the hump.
I still would like to know what causes the strange volume behavior I'm experiencing above.
Does anyone here make calls using a headset? For some reason on my SGS2 the volume (and this is just for calls, music and media are fine) even at maximum is almost unlistenable. I just cant hear the other person.
Anyone know of a solution?
Ralph
anyone?
I have searched and found loads of threads saying "use the search function " but nothing that answers the issues. Probably a failing on my part I am sure!
Do you have the same issue during VOIP like skype?

Yeahm Music/Video/Podcasts are fine itr is just call volume through headphones. Having said that the maximum call volume even without heaphones is a little low for my tastes but through a headset is just to quiet to hear.
If you try skype or gtalk and you got big difference its due to the audiochip. Music and other apps got other internal settings inside the audiochip. Thats why I was curious if you got the same trouble with skype.
DONT touch any settings in the hidden service menu until samsung got a proper fix for it. The menu wont work properly with the audiochip of the i9100 and could f*** your device completly.
The audiochip will not be able to reset correctly even on hardreset or reflashing new fw.

The call volume through the headset on the S2 is notoriously quiet, the following will help increase the volume through the headset.
note: Use the menu key->Key input to enter values
1. Open the dialler
2. Dial *#*#197328640#*#*
3. Navigate through the following menus:
(5) Audio
(1) Voice call
(2) Headset
(1) Volume
(1) SRC Speech RX Volume
4. Enter 5100. This sets the maximum level (5) to the maximum volume (100).
5. Use the menu key, and select back six times to navigate back to the dialler.
The headset volume setting is now set to the maximum when the volume toggle switch is set to the maximum.
Note: When the phone is reset or powered off, the firmware will reset these settings back to the default, so you will have to go through this procedure again.
Hope it helps!
WARNING CAUTION!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't touch that menu if you don't want to risk anything.
Read about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248729
That menu is for older devices with another audiochip not for the Yamaha chip thats in the Galaxy S2 device.
I have my phone at samsung Service center a second time due to big trouble with this menu!!
This menu only works like intended on older devices!!!
DO NOT TOUCH UNTIL PROPER FIX IS OUT!!!!!
I still have the stock OS .....2.3.4.... I did root it but did not unlock the bootloader. I don't remember when it started happening but after I rooted it sometime. I rooted it via the One-Click Root script. Anyhow, when I call someone, the ringing is low volume, but after the person picks up the volume increases to normal. The ringing is so low that I can't even tell if it is ringing when I am driving. Anyone have any solutions. I have tried pressing the volume on the side of the phone but no luck
Alrighty. I searched around and found this question asked a few times around the net, but never answered. Same question is also asked over in the Sprint note2 q&a with no replies...
The question is this..
How the heck do you disable the automatic reduction in volume when plugging something in the 3.5mm jack?
I switch between by car's cd player and a line-in cable to use streaming audio through my phone a lot and am incredibly annoyed with having to turn my phone's volume back up when i plug in the cable. I also dont like being chided like a 10 year old with the "don't listen to loud music" message each time i turn the volume back up... i don't need a nanny. i just want to listen to my music without having to keep fiddling with volume settings.
Anyone know where this "feature" is and how to disable it?

Good question. I was wondering the same thing, as well as how to turn off the "soft ring" or whatever it's called where the ringer starts low when you're receiving a call and after a second or two goes to regular volume.
I've looked in the sound settings and in accessibility but can't find any options for those things.
i seem to be having the opposite problem ...
the volume is loud as hell even on the low setting.
maybe its just me ?

Some custom ROMs have it removed...if you are stock or the ROM you are running doesn't have it removed you can install this app in the market to stop it from happening:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...S5zaHVtb2FwcC5kaXNhYmxlaW5jcmVhc2luZ3JpbmciXQ..
It's free. It runs in the background but I've never seen it consume any battery. All you have to do is open the app and it stops the increasing ring from then on. Make sure and follow the instructions if you don't want the persistent notification. I turned it off and the app has never been killed.
Honestly, that increasing ring was irritating, but i never thought about fixing it... i installed that app and we'll see how its works.
Now if we can just get rid of that stupid volume reduction i'll be set!
<- rooted stock
