[Q] No Wifi Hotspot - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey i was wondering if anybody else is having this problem with the wifi hotspot and usb tethering. I am running windows mobile rom with radio 2.14. I am running Mdeejay_evo sense v1.0 warm. But pretty much every android build i put on there I am unable to get the wifi hotspot or usb tethering to work. Just seeing if anybody can help. Right now I am just having to reboot the phone into WM to use the usb tethering.

well u know winmo roms have wireless tether too right?

yes im having that problem also was waiting for this thread didnt want to make one

works for me and im on mdeejay froyo hd 3.3a

The only ROM that i know of that Wi-Fi tethering is working on is Mdeejay's & Darkstone's Desire HDs ROMs.

I can confirm Hypderdroid 1.6 works too

same here...
Yea I'm on mdeejay evo 1.6 and wifi tehtering not working either. It'll connect, but I won't get any traffic.

i am experiencing the same problems with about every build. i found one build which is core droid version 1.1 that actually worked then i updated to version 1.2 and stoped working. but i still have yet to find a build in which everything works.
mad props to the devs and everybody at xda for making android on hd2 possible.
any other builds that have wifi working please let us know, thanks!!

I am using Bangsters 1.3a and after running the script he provided a link to I have no problem with WiFi tethering... honestly have not used the USB tether

I have FroyoStone Sense v3.1 and Wifi tethering works for me.
keep in mind that after you connect ur computer to ur wifi hotspot, it can take a minute or two for windows to obtain internet access through ur device.
for me, it usually takes about a minute.

I try NexusHD2-FRG83_V1.1_(Froyo 2.2.1) and its works but the internet dont work so well its on and off..

If there is no internet on your pc after connection try add the dns 8.8.8.8 manually on TCP/IP.

FOR WIFI TETHERING:
Renew the ip address your pc AFTER its connected to hd2 and complains about no internet connection (no traffic) You can do this by entering the command
ipconfig /renew
to start menu or cmd screen. (Don't repair wireless connection, wait till it gives up)
FOR USB TETHERING:
Normally windows vista/7 shouldn't need driver, but sometimes it does. (Mostly because of droid explorer) So when you make usb tethering, if your phone is just listed as Android Phone in your device manager. Download and install tetherxp.inf for Android Phone in device manager. Click update driver in device manager for android phone and browse to folder that contains tetherxp.inf file. (This works for vista/7 too)
Download: http://www.android.com/drivers/tetherxp.inf
I can confirm that wifi AND usb tethering works with all builds I have tried that does not give error while enabling it. But I almost always need to renew my ip. (and it automatically updates dns settings too) I think DHCP is late for many builds and ip request times out in pc.
I remember, one time I needed to disable WPA, enable then disable tethering and reenable WPA and it worked. IP renewal always works. Give feedback for your experience please. (Whether these instructions worked or not)
I made it work with nexus, desire, desire hd, desire z and evo builds. I was usually using hastarin kernels.

Thanks for your help but I kerosene getting a response that's says "No operation can be performed on local area connection while it has itsunami media disconnected."

[Q] How to I enable tethering again on my pc after reformat

Hello,
I used Barnacle Wifi tethering with my pc sucessfully before.
Now, after reformatting the computer, (the wireless adapter is obviously working as I'm using it right now), it tries to connect to the barnacle network but takes forever (basically it doesn't connect).
Tethering is crucial for me and any help is appreciative. Nothing has changed on my phone since it last worked with my pc. The only difference is that my pc has reinstalled windows 7 and has working wifi drivers.
how can I fix this?
Thanks so much!
Try flashing a froyo rom. Comes with wireless tethering installed.called. Mobile AP. Works great. I'm using Axura Voodoo Rom and getting 5.21mg download speeds. Also has USB tethering installed too.

Thanks for the reply, but I was wondering more of what was wrong on the pc side.
Is there some driver I'm missing?
I was able to use EasyTether via USB to tether but it was so much slower (other things being constact) than my Barnacle Wifi tethering.
Why can't I connect to barnacle?
Do I need kies installed?
BUMP. This is still a major issue for me.
I installed Bionix's latest rom and it still doesnt work.
Froyo USB tethering doesn't work (drivers installed sucessfully on my windows 7 pc)
Barnacle Wifi doesn't work (it takes forever while "connecting" and never ends up connecting to the phone)
Any help is greatly appreciated!

For Barnacale Wifi I am assuming you are talking about:
What is AP?
I see it listed as a wireless internet connection (in windows 7, its a icon of 3 computers) and I click to connect.
It tries and tries but never connects to it for some reason.
However, before my PC reformat, it connected to barnacle wifi just fine.
I can confirm that there are no problems with my wifi on my pc.
And I really appreciate you getting back to me.

Working Wireless Tether?

Anyone know which wireless tether app works with the temp root? I've tried a few and a no go.
I've seen claims of barnacle working, but have yet to try it myself.

Barnacle works perfect. Thank you, and I hit your Ty button.
It can't stay connected though, since root is temp, correct?

I have Barnacle wifi tether running on my 3D with temp root. Works great, but yes it is temporary for now.
If the wireless part isn't necessary, pdanet works just fine without root.

I can temp root with no problems using my MacBook Pro and Fre3vo but no wireless tethering joy for me. Wireless Tether doesn't work at all. Barnacle gives no errors with the ad hoc connection, everything looks fine, even Snow Leopard's network diagnostics say that my internet is working fine, but no data is transmitted or received. I even tried all the tips/tricks in this thread, still no joy. Any suggestions?
PdaNet works ok with USB but is very unstable with Bluetooth.
BTW I had no problems at all with the EVO 4G either in ad hoc mode (early versions of Wireless Tether) or non ad hoc (whatever that's called, recent versions of WT).
I've tried most of the methods out there and the one in this thread has the highest success rate IMO. One important thing: check your apps and if you have "Super User" installed as an app, uninstall it first before trying the method in that thread.
Barnacle works perfectly for me under that setup.
Mike
I have the same issue. I also have a mac so it might be a mac issue. I get tether to work on my wifes shift so I know my computer works.

Thanks, the version of wireless tether mentioned in the linked post worked for me and I'm posting using it! I had tried every other version of WT on the google site, and every version of Barnacle I could find, none worked.
BTW I didn't have any error messages or have to change any settings as that page suggests, it just worked the first time.
This is the only version of WT that starts without errors for me, and I have to us WT as it can set up the softap network (Asus Transformer doesn't see ad-hoc). It sees it and connects, but can never get an IP Address.
Anyone else experience a similar issue?
How I got it running......
1. Get temp root by one of the methods in the forum
2. Download the wifi tether apk from the root/FAQ thread.
3. In the settings change profile to htc evo 4g
4. In settings apply check to box to fix HTC routing.
Wifi tether should restart and you should be in business.

You mean this version, 3.1 beta 2? I've tried all the versions out there and some work perfectly some of the time, some never work, but none work all of the time. Can't figure out what changes, it's so random. I'm using the 3.1 beta 2 version to write this, but yesterday it didn't work and tomorrow I predict it won't work. BTW every time I start this version I get an error/warning message that some necessary thingamajigs aren't there, but I dismiss the message and it works anyway.
And of course I know I have to re-root after every restart etc.
works sporactically
Both Barnacle Wifi Tether and Andriod Wifi Tether work sporadically for me. It worked a few days ago and now it doesn't work.
is 4g tether working? I could not get it to work using barnacle
Barnacle works perfect for me with 4G...I haven't had one problem with it...
Supposedly, a beta version of "Wireless Tether for Root Users" worked so long as you checked a box in the settings that was specific to HTC devices. I forget where there.

[INFO] Wi-Fi Tether Touchpad to Rooted Andoid Device (Hotspot)

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you rooted android users out there know that you can tether to your touchpad pretty easily.
Go download the newest version of wifi tether 3.1beta5
http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/downloads/list
Install it
Run it
Menu-Settings
Change Device-Profile
Select Samsung Fascinate
Change Setup-Method
Select Softap for Samsung (Master)
Back to main screen
And now you are good to go. I have used this on my fascinate running the community rom, also read that someone had it running on their charge as well.
Have fun tethering.
Post back if this does or doesn't work for you, what device, and what rom/kernal you are running.

maybe reboot? Mine works flawlessly on my android and touchpad

Some android phones can only broadcast wifi via adhoc mode which is incompatible with the touchpad. Its not a matter of what program you choose, if your phone can only do ad-hoc wifi then it wont work. Try using bluetooth (Wireless Tether 2.0.7)

I believe the easiest way to tether from your rooted Android to the Touchpad is if you're running CM7, to use the built in wi-fi tether as it works flawlessly!

Anyone able to get the View connected through the wifi tether app on a phone?

I've been trying to get my Epic 4G Touch running the wifi tether app 3.1-beta6 (only version I am aware works for my phone) but the View can't see the wifi connection. Perhaps something to do with the way wifi tether is running? Ad-Hoc mode? Anybody know of a work around?
I am running Wifi Tether v3.1 beta 2 on my Droid Charge with no issues. I currently have mine set to the Samsung Fascinate for the device. You could maybe try changing the device to see if that does anything. I know I was having issues connecting one day and I just had to uninstall and reinstall the app and it started working fine again.
Which type of wifi connection your phone presents is device dependent. Some can do infrastructure which will work, others can only do ad-hoc , which the Flyer and most android devices will not see without a modified wifi supplicant file. If your phone tether cannot be seen on your Flyer you need to install the wifi supplicant mentioned in other answers in the forum, do a search for supplicant . That is the only way to fix this, and you must be rooted.
I use Wireless Tether app on my rooted Droid X and the view sees it just fine. Connects without any issues.

I'm quoting DigitalMD because it appears this information may need to be repeated. I'm fairly certain that most Samsung devices are limited to ad-hoc only and that makes all the difference.
I'm downloading the wifi ad hoc enabler now to try this out...
I have a rooted Nexus S 4g on ICS- and wifitether works fine for my ipad2... but the HTC View doesn't even see the signal. Is this a carrier issue with the View, an HTC specific thing? I'm surprised the iPad had no issue as I've had plenty of public wifi connection issues...
Just trying to understanding the issues at play better here.

So I installed the latest 3.1-beta 11 to my Nexus S4g to try this before I go to other lengths to get the view to see it... but I don't see a MSS clamping options- only routing fix. I'm also trying device profile set to Evo 4g since that's what you had... still nothing...
Does it have anything to do with being on ICS on my Nexus? If you're doing adhoc from your evo (assuming...) why would the view not see ad hoc in my case?

[Q] HOTSPOT enabling

Hi All - coming to the LGOG from the SG Note which had no problems stock rooted - wifi tether working - just changed profile to I think nexus or something can't remember.
Has anyone consistently been able to get hotspot to enable on the stock ROM? what are the settings you are using in wifi tether? Assuming that is how you were able to get it to run. I am rooted on Jellybean - i have tried what google suggested and forum search suggested with no joy.
Tried - device profile SG3, generic ICS / JB (lan0)
It launches but no devices see it broadcasting? HELP!
Need this feature - want to stay with stock ROM if possible?
Thanks

I did search before and came up with no confirmed working settings? Any thoughts or can anyone sticky this or add working confirmed WIFI tether app settings that work on rooted unlocked stock?

Yes, didn't mention it because it was what you said (Generic ics/jb wlan0).
Did you try a different lan selection? I don't know what about it would make your laptop crash - sounds like an issue with your laptop that is incompatible with something in the AP settings.
You might need to try the netd max client cmd option too.
I also have a method (no sexy app, just a few commands I put into a script) that lets me run a socks proxy on my phone while my phone is a regular wifi client on my network (just brings up wifi without disabling data), and I can point my pc's web browser at it, thus usable even with wired pc's on my network. You can go a step further and apply the iptables rules the way wifi tether does, point your default gateway at it, and be tethered too.

the centrino driver on my Laptop gets a BSOD when connecting to the wifi hotspot with this phone and nexus 4 i guess- it is an identified issue on the Intel wireless community some people installed older drivers for their chipset to get it working, but mine does not have older drivers it is an ASUS UX31a (love this ultrabook) - final solution was to disable N mode on the advanced tab of the wireless chipset. Connects now no problem and stays connected.
my work laptop OLD intel chipset has no problem and hooked right up to the tether
Settings:
Wireless tether
Device profile - (Generic ics/jb wlan0)
Device Set-up method - Netd-NDC (master)
Lan- 192.168.1.0/24 (thanks Jdoc i did change this was defaulted to 192.168.2.0/24)
Hope if anyone else is in a quandry on this it helped - thanks for the support!
Cool - do you get the data display on the wifi tether screen (amount transferred and speed)? I had this but it seems like the JB update made it go away - maybe their method of collecting the data is incompatible with JB or maybe something else got trashed in the update.
Thanks for posting your solution.

I'm stock/rooted at&t JB and using these settings:
Device profile - (Generic ics/jb wlan0)
Device Set-up method - Netd-NDC (master)
and while tethering works fine, I cannot get wifi back after stopping the tether and closing wifi-tether. I can't get wifi back until I reboot the phone. I've tried a number of device profiles (generic, generic ics/jb (both of them), SGSIII) and they all behave the same way. I didn't have this trouble with the stock ICS, this just started with the at&t jb update.
