[Q] Verizon Skype on custom ROM - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I know that Skype was just added to the public market, but this reminded me that I tried to use the Verizon-only version of Skype before (which lets you use it over the towers, not just on WiFi). When I loaded it up on my phone, which had a Froyo ROM on it (can't remember which it was at the time), it gave me an error. Similar errors occurred when I tried to load the My Verizon app (I believe the specific error that time was "Cannot verify phone number" or something like that). Is there any way around these issues, or do you have to stick to the stock ROM (or maybe just something based on the stock ROM) for these apps to work?

[Q] Question about Adobe Flash 10.1 or 10.2

When I got my G Tab from Woot, it came with Flash and several other applications already installed. When I got stuck in a boot loop and had to reset back to factory default, Flash was no longer installed. I went to the market and installed it again rebooted the tablet, and still wasn't able to access a flash based website I was able to view before. I have tried both flash 10.1 and 10.2 from the market. Is there something else I should be doing to get this app to work? Anyone else have this problem? The website I am trying to access is starfall.com (there are various flash activities that I would like to be able to do with my students).
Thanks for your help!
Are you receiving any error messages?
I recently went to the website you posted in your thread and I was able to use the website with the "web (default)" browser but not with "Dolphin Browser HD." The web went straight to the flash items and it work great but within the "Dolphin Browser HD," the website required me to update it and install a plug-in? The only difference between our G Tablet is my has TNT Lite 4.4 and yours is back to stock. Which stock are you in, 3389 or 3588?
I am in 3588 ( I was able to update before the OTA went down). No, I don't get an error message, it just shoots me to a webpage that states that the website requires a plugin that isn't compatible with my device.
Something else I noticed... although the flash application is showing up when I go into the system, and look for installed applications, it doesn't show up as an icon when I pull up the screen that shows all the applications.
I know it was working when I first got my tablet, and even after I did the OTA update.
Another odd thing (not sure if it is related) You Tube works as long as I am not logged into the website under my You Tube account, but it stops working if I log in. It will work again, if I log out.
See if common flash sites like CNN or ESPN3 work. If flash works on these sites, then the particular site you are trying to use is looking for a specific flash plug-in, such as the one used by IE and desktops. Sites such as Hulu and Fancast are looking for the Adobe Flash desktop plug-in.
There is a hack that will fake these sites in thinking you have the desktop version. Information about the hack can be found in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=856318
Have you tried switching the browsing mode or view to 'Desktop'?
As for Flash not showing up in your list of apps, it only runs, say, behind the scenes. Yo won't be able to really open it up like other apps. So it's normal that you can't find it.
Oh, and if you use Dolphin or some other browsers, they sometimes have flash specific options to use flash all the time, some times, or never. So it could also be your browser not allowing the flash to play
That was the problem.. I had my browser set to view in tablet form. It works just fine in desktop view. Thanks so much!
I have noticed that flash 10.2 on my Gtab with vegan Rom works at some websites and not others. With the stock rom, I was able to find the desk/tablet mode selection in the menus and make 10.2 work consistantly.
Where do I find this setting in the vegan rom?

[Q] ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)"????

[Q] ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)"????
Hi, I have a TF101 now running krakd and a t-mobile g2x running miui
Yesterday, i did a wipe and flash krakd 1.4.2 on my tf101 (was from revolver). Then i signed in with my google account as usual. However, when i tried to download apps from the market, it says: ""App name" could not be downloaded due to an error (-101)".
Then, I checked my phone, which is still running miui, suddenly, it could not download apps from market either. (. The thing is that I have not flashed anything on my phone lately.
I created another google account and it works perfectly on the tf101. But when there are two accounts at the same time (on the tf101), it still does not let me download apps.
So I think this must be some kind of issue with my google account because it affected my phone as well
Please let me know if there is anything I could do. Cuz I use my gmail. I dont want to make a new email account. that sucks
Thanks so so much
I also faced the same issue when i flashed a new rom on my t-mobile g2. after the first boot, it started downloading all the apps that i had previously installed. and after some time I started getting this error. googled it a bit and discovered that its because google has some unspecified limit of data that you can download from the market on a given day (24 hours). you should be able to download apps again after the 24hr cycle completes
try clearing cache as well data of market in manage applications in settings menu

[Q] Install Google Apps on a Coby Kyros without Rooting?

Hello all,
I've searched the web and have only found solutions involving rooting and something called Cyanogenmod. Looks tricky. I'm fairly tech savvy and not totally opposed to doing this stuff, but I'd really really REALLY rather do this only as a final final last desperate resort. My only goal is simply to have Google Play up and running on my Android without rooting and putting on all sorts of fancy mods. Besides, I'm not even sure if there's a Cyanogenmod for my device. I looked and it's not in the list.
I recently got a Coby Kyros MID1042, Android 4.0 tablet. It doesn't come with Google Apps. I want to install Google Apps. I have tried doing this by using the APKs and installing manually. I found instructions on Youtube and downloaded some signed apks with Vending 3.3.12.
Things seemed to be fine until I clicked on Google Play in my apps tab, I was prompted to enter my Gmail account info, so I did. I got the message "Your phone needs to communicate with Google Servers to set up your account...", but after a few minutes, I got a message that says, "Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server", followed by "Unforunately, Google ServicesFramework has stopped."
I have searched this and other forums and have come up with solutions that seem to involve something called "rooting", resetting and installing some MODs... I'd rather use rooting or modding as an absolute last resort. I'm wondering if there's any insight as to why I'm getting these messages, or if someone may be able to point me to a better .apk package. Thanks in advance!
search in the internet for a pakage called "gapps" (be sure u chose the right one cus theyre depending on the android version u use)
head to the recovery mode and flash them afterwards it should work
you dont need any root acces for this cus every phone got a recovery by stock rom

[Q] Money (credit) dropping. Why?

I apologize in advance for my english.
Hi guys, I think I have a big problem with my GSIII.
My phone is rooted, WanamLite 5.2 ELL5, Phenomenal 4.0 Extreme; my carrier is Vodafone and my plan provides 1 GB per month of navigation.
I started to notice a massive (relative to me) money consumption.
Yesterday, when I had 28 cents left, my credit decreased to 8 cents after receiving a SMS (18 cents is the standard cost of a SMS for my plan) but I wasn't doing anything! Further checks let me discover that using the secret sms plug-in of the "Hide it pro" app costs 18 cents for every SMS received or sent, even if my plan provides them.
I obviously disinstalled the app, but I wanted to wait a bit, to check if all it's ok.
Some time later (a couple of hours), with still 8 cents left and doing nothing, I received a SMS from Vodafone, informing me that my credit wasn't sufficient for doing what I wanted to! I wiped data (factory reset) from CWM and also a factory data restoration (from the settings).
Today, still 8 cents left, at 13 o'clock I received another SMS from Vodafone like the previous one (yesterday).
Do you think that the problem is related to the phone (dunno, a virus?), or not?
Thanks a lot.
Use the free app "Permission Explorer" and check which apps are allowed to receive or send SMS or do phone calls.
Obvisously something is not quite as it is supposed to be.
Stock and some stockish Samsung roms have the Exynos Camera bug which allows any app to gain root access and thus install itself in the system itself and by consequence prevent being removed by a full-wipe. Any app you used which uses root could also have done the same. Not saying this actually did happen but it's a very real possibility. Only completely secure solution is to flash a full firmware (including recovery!) from Odin since theoretically CWM cannot be trusted either anymore, should the phone be compromised.
Easy steps would be:
- flash back to stock (any stock)
- flash Siyah through Odin
- boot to CWM (should be included in Siyah)
- factory-reset the phone
- install a freshly downloaded copy of Wanamlite
- reinstall Siyah kernel
- restore your apps and data (obviously making sure you trust all and any that require access to the camera, sending SMS or such)
On a side-note: I know that some crazy phone providers actually cost to RECEIVE sms and not only send. Could it be you are receiving SMS' from someone?

Thanks a lot (I already know, however, about Camera Bug reported from Faryaab ).
I'll proceed as you wrote, only one question: why Siyah?
However, Vodafone doesn't apply costs for received SMSs from standard numbers (even of other carriers), as the one I received the message from.
In attach files there is the list of apps with "write sms permission".
Now I'm going to flash through Odin stock Ita firmware, I already have it...
WTF is joyn?!?!
UPDATE!!!
I restored again from settings. When it completed, I received the usual sms from Vodafone about insufficient credit! WTF?
Now I'll flash stock Ita...
UPDATE #2
After flashing Stock Ita, I received THREE SMS from Vodafone about attempting to do something...
joyn app in permission explorer disappeared, but ChatON, SVoice, Keyboard, Favourite Contacts and Samsung Apps appeared.

Skype Login error with correct login details

I have a rooted Galaxy S2 GTi9100. I was using the skype since a long time even after rooting. But somewhere in between my skype app stopped working. whenever i tried to login it failed saying Incorrect login details. But I can login using the Phone browser, Windows PC app and browser using same login details.
These are the actions I have performed to get my skype working but still no success.
1. Reset the phone.
2. Formatted Internal SD card from phone and Via PC several times.
3. Uninstalled and Installed again and again.
4. Installed older versions of the app.
5. Changed several custom ROMS.
Also NOTE: I can login on other android phones, and neither others can login in my phone
With so many tech geeks here is there anyone who has any Idea why this is happening ?
Thanks and awaiting for your replies to a mystery that has puzzeld me for long time

Havent tried going back to stock. Anyways it was working with different Custom Rom's for about 1 year or so...Yeah installed from google playstore
You can wait for a update to come to skype or try going back to stock, i don't have any idea what else could it be, you can also write a complaint to skype but i guess they won't care since you are using custom firmware.
