I tried upgrading my girlfriend's Vibrant to one of the new 2.2 ROMs and she didn't like it, so I disabled voodoo, booted into recovery and attempted to restore the backup I made in nandroid. After 30 minutes of hanging on 'restoring data', I gave up and tried to reboot. Phone is now stuck in the vibrant logo and will not boot into recovery. Tried pulling the battery and it just reboots back to the Vibrant logo.
I know there is a way to fix this with something called Odin? (not sure if that's the name). My only problem is I don't want to delete any of her non-restorable stuff. Is there any way to fix this without deleting anything that can't be restored? Also, any idea why the nandroid backup didn't work? I'm afraid that even if I can get back into recovery, the restore will just freeze again.
I did notice when it was wiping to install the ROM originally, it also froze on deleting data, but a reboot fixed that. So maybe a reboot will fix that too but I'm not sure. Any help?
do you reboot when you have disabled voodoo and hear linda say 'convertion successful' ? sometime it will not work proper if you disable and flash something without reboot

I made this same mistake the first time I flashed. What it is, its that nandroid does not backup the kernel, so you have to flash one with the same version of android. At this point you will have to use odin to do it then once you have you can do a nandroid restore.

o i'v just got what your problem is! you should flash a 2.1kernel before nand restore. because it will not restore your kernel

I think maybe he can get into recovery and flash a new 2.1 kernel. Will this work?

Post in the right forum and you will get the answer to how to fix it.
Moved to Q&A as not development
look at the bright side... at least ur Vibrant isnt stuck on the Captivate screen....
I'm sorry about posting in the wrong forum, honest mistake but it won't happen again. Can someone exolain to me what I need to do, in order, to fix this? I need to use odin, then flash a 2.1 kernel, then run nandroid restore? Which 2.1 kernel should I use?
Well, I had been planning on waiting for the official release of 2.2 before rooting. Now that it's apparent that's a lost cause, and given that I have a weeke of spring break to fool with the phone, what's the best method for rooting a stock EA28 with the intention of then going on to try out a froyo version? From the sticky up top, I would guess its http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=913470 . Has anything better come along? Ease of reverting to stock is important to me too.
That's the best way I'm aware of.
I know the one-click root method still works (I rooted EA28 that way), but you need to make changes to one of the .bat files before it does work. You also have to restart the phone in the middle of the process because it gets hung up. This method from adrynalyne is way better.
Once you are rooted and ready to jump into the world of Froyo ROMs, you will want to flash this updated CWR package from JT. It has been modified to better work with the way the system is set up in Froyo.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Don't be alarmed that this new CWR mentions Voodoo when you're in recovery. It's set up to work with both Voodoo and non-Voodoo kernels. Also, it doesn't accurately report out the correct state of Voodoo if you are using it. You have to use other methods to determine if Voodoo has been enabled.
Once I root, do I have to flash all the EB01 zips to use SuperClean 2.9? It appears as if I do, problem is, I use a Mac at home and would have to use a windows parallel program to run Odin. I'd like to avoid that, if possible.

What do you mean by "all the EB01 zips?" Where are these zips located?
I have seen many people say Heimdall works with Macs. I would suggest looking that up and how to use it, as I have only used Odin on PCs.
the EB01modem.tar, and EB01voodoo.zips, specifically. Seems as if SC2.9 is on either EB01 or EB16.
If u use heimdall, and use a prerooted eb01 you alleviate the need to bother rooting ea28 beforehand.... heimdall doesn't care if you're rooted... it pushes whatever you tell it to the phone....be careful tho....it has no training wheels... if you try to get ahead of yourself and not read up thoroughly, so you know what is pieces to put in which blank....you could goof your phone up....at least temporarily

I d/l'd Heim last night, and it definitely looked like it required some reading beforehand. That's nice that it doesn't require root, but I'd like her phone to be rooted, either way. Seems there would be more advantages.
If you download the EB01 that adryn posted awhile back...the one for Odin... its pre-rooted....as are most roms...it's a big tar file... you can extract it with a tar extractor program, and it contains all the individual bin files that you use with heimdall for flashing....

I appreciate the response. Definitely gonna read up on heim and unzip that tar. Thanks

I love how elegant heimdall is....it gives you options.....like if you know you have a clean functioning recovery....then you don't add recovery.bin....if you have a hacked param file and a custom boot logo, you can leave the param field blank to preserve it. It.lets you fix only what's broken, without going back to bone stock on everything. I love of.

Hi guys, I really need help restoring my phone back to working order. I made the dumb mistake of flashing a stock 2.2 kernel while using the bionix 1.3.1 rom. Now my phone is stuck on the team whiskey logo loop. I can not get into recovery using the volume plus power button anymore. It sends me into samsung recovery 2e. How do I go about fixing this problem? Any help would be appreciated.
Hmmm...might use Odin to flash the kernel from the Bionix.zip? I'm guessing you didn't disable lagfix before flashing the stock kernel. Shouldn't be a big deal if that's the case.
Edit: That's of course assuming you can get into Download Mode.
Edit 2: Not sure how easily you can flash only a kernel using Odin. Might try Heimdall if that doesn't work?
Agreed! Whats the kernel you tried to flash? Link maybe? It really shouldnt be any problem maybe it just needed to sit. In either case it sounds like the update.zip should still be there. Try reinstall:update see if that werks. Good luck!
I just realized what exactly I did that caused everything to mess up. I wiped the cache partition which erased my data including the update.zip. Can anyone provide the 3 files I need to return my phone back to stock condition using Odin. I found the thread but the links did not work anymore.

Do you still have the Clockwork Recovery update.zip on your PC?

Unfortunately I don't because I used ryan's oneclicklagfix as the method of rooting so I never had the update.zip on my computer. I been looking into restoring it back to factory everything but the links for the baseband, kernels, etc are not working. Do you know any working links?
I believe everything you need should be able to be found in the guide:

Good luck!
Thanks everyone for the help.

Ok so I tried to install the simply stock 2.3.5 yesterday and when it was going through I got some ladies voice who kept repeating the same line over and over. 'converting cache partition. Not enough space on partition' and kept boot looping that over and over. Could not do anything with it after that except DL mode and odin back to stock. Could some one please take a look at this rom and give me some instructions for it because the ones that were in the thread weren't all that specific. Also could someone give me the best root for this phone because the one I used may have been the cause.
Also there is a fixer file for this rom that apparently addresses some problems it has... How would I go about installing that zip?

Has anyone ever even used this rom before? -.-

Hey guys I had just started to think that I had seen it all but it turns out that I havnt. So let me start off by saying I've tried following this guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1026746
To get back to stock but when I boot I get to the lock screen and all is fine but when I go to unlock the phone and get to the os around 5 different things force close ranging from touch wiz to settings and to google app packages and I also get a system UID inconstant error and asks if im feeling lucky (but it does matter because I cant get to the home screen seeing as that touch wiz is force closeting constantly) . So... (Deep Breath) I have tryed wiping (factory data reset), wiping cashe partition and dalvik also formating everything I can in the advanced tab in CWM. So please give me and hand with my issue and if you have a file i need to download please post a link with it.

I'll say just use ODIN. Download the program, EH03 (if you're Verizon), and PIT v2.2. If you need additional help use this link.

I've already tryed odin and uing the pit it boots but has tons of fcs and errors
If you can find the stock eclair ROM (2.1) it might be worth flashing. It has a 2.1 pit that seems to format more completely and works better for me, then I odin GB with 2.2 pit. I seem to have trouble reformatting with 2.2 .pit and 2.1 .pit works every time. 2.1 pit file is also the only one that will correctly fix ext formatting such as voodoo lagfix. I'm on us cellular so my files won't help.

I didn't see you mention it in your earlier posts but are you making sure re-partition is checked in odin when flashing stock ROM with pit file? If not, do it. If so, disregard.

ok so I made some progress I got cm 7.1 to boot up okay but in settings>storage and under internal storage it says total space 0.00b and available space 0.00b so what do i do?
Can you tell us exactly what steps you're using when you use Odin? I noticed the guide you linked to in the OP was a really old sticky. Droidstyle's Guide is the only one that is currently up to date. It doesn't mean you've done anything wrong with Odin, I just want to make sure you have the files in all the right places and the correct check boxes checked.
